Hi All,
I'm trying to use Tasker to build a widget and track usage metrics for MX Player. I'm using Tasker's "send intent" function along with a few extras to launch particular files at particular positions.
What I'd also like to be able to do is detect when MX Player stops playing, save the current file and current position to be resumed by the widget later. From the API it seems that this information is available (refer Result: com.mxtech.intent.result.VIEW) but I can't get Tasker to see this information. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the way MX Player broadcasts or with how Tasker listens (and the associated configuration)
Can anyone confirm that com.mxtech.intent.result.VIEW is a broadcast intent, and if so how I might get Tasker to react to its status changing?
Thanks,
Michael
x-posted on the Tasker help forum also: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/tasker/GvbDy9jMGzI
the Tasker dev says:
It's not clear to me if the result intent is a separate broadcast or just the results from
a call to startActivity.
If the result code is sent with 'startActivity' i.e. the target is an activity, you won't be
able to pick it up in Tasker.
The sample code is a bad link.
I would contact the devs for clarification (and fixing the link).

Any help would be appreciated.

bumping this.
further comments from the Tasker dev:
Looking at the sample it seems they made the common mistake of assuming they would be called by an activity
via startActivity.
Result is apparently only obtainable via onActivityResult in the calling activity.
The result intent action is defined in the sample code but never used....

Hmm, it would definitely have to be @bleu8888 that could answer this question.

Hi!
I just released a new timer app for android (2.1+).
The new thing is that you can create timer definitions on QR codes and NFC tags. The QR code contains all the information necessary to launch the timer.
Also the NFC tags are totally independent because they also store the complete timer information. Just touch a NFC tag and it launches a Timer. This only works with mobiles which support NFC like the Nexus S.
Last but not least you can scan a barcode and assign it a Timer. For example for a frozen pizza or how long do you want to freeze you beer in the fridge.
Please give it a try and tell me what you thing. It’s free.

Awesome program! I'll check it out a little more this evening but so far so good! No more reaching in the trash to find the instructions!
Wow, what a brilliant idea! That app looks really, really good. Did you do it on purpose that you can't create timers inside the app? I guess you did that so every timer is uploaded, however it still would be nice to have that feature so you don't have to be online all the time. Maybe you could ask the user if he wants to upload the time the next time he is connected to a wifi

Thank you! The idea behind the online creation of the timer definition is quite simple: I want to create an iphone version of the app as well. Using the website to create the timer I don't have to program the UI twice.
At the same time users which only want to create QR Codes and print them somewhere can do it online more easily.
The whole concept of the qrTimer is more about creating, scanning and sharing of timer definitions. This can only be done online.
And this is only the beginning. Expect more features to come.
Brilliant idea! But need to store them say like in Space Timer
Downloaded
Gonna print one in the kitchen for boiling water XD
qrTimer with Android Beam (NFC)
Hi!
I just updated my qrTimer with Android Beam support. You can now launch a timer and then transfer it to a second android phone via NFC. It will continue on the second phone.

If you have an android phone with NFC and ICS, please give it a try.
Regards,
Adrian.

Hi All,
Complete newbie to this forum and not an app developer... I simply come up with ideas and get people far more capable than me to develop them!
An associate has asked me if it would be possible to create an app with the following functionality:
1. Utilise Google Map UI.
2. Search by event type.... drop down list.
3. Update events available.
4. Provide info on event when marker is tapped.
My background is in games and productivity apps... hence my post here.
I know how to integrate GMaps in app... so no issue there. The question is how to include the functionality of displaying events as markers (colour coded to type of event possibly?) based on a defined list, including search - filter - display function and how to define the list of events.
This is a complete brainstorm at the moment so any comments would be great!
Thanks everyone! :good:
Hi All,
We are couple of weeks away from releasing our new app, RemindThem, and we are looking for some users who can give it a try and give us some honest and frank feedback.
The app is created to handle a simple but frequent issue we all face at one or another time. I use all sort of reminder app but still fails many time to carry out some tasks. Tasks which are dependent on situation rather particular date/time. Like bring something on my way home from office, or carry out some task after reaching home. Existing reminder apps do not handle such tasks neatly.
The idea is to use networks rather date/time to set reminders and they will trigger only when the corresponding network event (connect/disconnect) occurs. The app also allows you to set reminders for others using their configured events. Users can create events like Entering Home, Entering Office, Leaving Home/Office etc which they can use to set reminders. The current version is working with WiFi networks but we will be integrating other networks like Bluetooth, Beacon, etc soon.
Steps to start beta testing
1) Join Test Community - https://plus.google.com/communities/115390760433618584031
2) Opt In as a Tester - https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.jumpbyte.remindthem
3) Once you click on Become Tester, you will find a Play Store link at the bottom of the page to install the app
If you find a bug, or the app crashes, please post a detailed description of what happened. Short reports like "it crashed" or "doesn't work" won't help much. Please try to reproduce the problem, and post the steps required to do so. Along with issue please mention which device you're using, and what version of Android you're running. You can also use the submit crash report of Android and I can get the error detail from the Play Store administrator dashboard.
Easily add reminders to Google Now without having to speak up or typing queries.
We can add reminders to Google Now by typing or speaking something like "remind me to..." followed by the description and time. But if we have to add reminders again and again this becomes a hassle to type or speak long sentences like this. This is where this Assistant for Google Reminders comes to the rescue!
This Assistant helps you to input your reminders in a much friendlier and easy manner, then it makes the perfect query and opens the default Google Now where you will only need to press the blue tick icon and you will be done.
This saves you the hassle to perfectly speculate the query which Google would want to listen to. You can also add a home screen shortcut on your device if your launcher supports it.
The Assistant does not act as a reminders app, but rather as a mediator app between the users and the Google Now reminders. The reason it uses Google Now reminder mechanism is that Google Now is a product made by Google and hence updated and supported regularly. Plus you get all the benefits like sync, availability, etc.

Like this , not sure about the icon though bro
Good work
Thanks! I downloaded the icon in a hurry, didn't give much thought to it. I made and published the app in only few hours
In your work on this, did you discover a way to create a shortcuts to the list of reminders? Both the google app and Inbox can interface with the reminders, but creating a direct shortcut has proven difficult.

I haven't looked into this, but there must be a definite Activity (screen) for this. Maybe the ROM developers would know.

I've looked, but havent been able to find one that works. Found one mention of the Google app having shortcuts on 7.1.1, another mention of the reminder creation confirmation screen sometimes offering to place a shortcut, but that's the extent of it.

If the app allows to create shortcuts, then someone might be able to get it. Not that it may happen soon, but it is there in the device, so it doesn't look entirely impossible.
Is there a way to add sort by date ascending?
Right now it's only descending. If I download videos (news) over a series of days, I want them played chronogically
Im having to resort to using a different app.
Same for me

Love this app and would gladly use the paid version if you added date ASCENDING. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.
Same for me too.
I request sort by reverse order option.
Is this feature in the works? I use MX Player Pro to listen to lectures and it would make it much easier if I could order the lectures in chronological order
More convenient
Agreed, MX Player is already ahead of many other media players that don't have a date function, however its only descending, A reverse order option, that could be applied to date/size/etc etc would be amazing.
So would mxplayer developer even saw this thread :/
I sent a mail to the support, and got a reply.

Dear xxxx,
Thanks for your valuable suggestions.
We will pass this one as feedback to our product management team on your behalf. Based on the user feedback and feasibility, our product team will take a call and implement it in the future. As it's a product decision it may take a while to review your request. Meanwhile, your patience is highly appreciated.
Regards,
MX Player Support

(toggle ascending/descending of name/date/size/etc.)
It's not hard to implement but very convenient.
Please see this thread:
feature request: sort by date ascending
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/feature-request-sort-date-ascending-t3766120

I found a bypass.
Copy the files to a PC, sort them in descending order by date, then copy them back which will re-date them. So when MX player plays them back in what thinks is descending order, they will actually be in ascending order.
