HI everybody,
Apologies for the thread which might seem like I should have just searched... but I have spent hours reading through the development forum and I am non-the-wiser.
I have just come from a nexus 5, where I absolutely love lollipop. I am after a ROM that is very similar to the native nexus lollipop experience. I don't mind the odd customisation like more options on the power menu etc, or options that are at least not enabled by default, but CM has always been over the top and too complex for me.
Which ROM should I go for? The dev forum looks like a minefield!
Thanks
There's no such thing as a best ROM. The closest you're gonna get to a Nexus-like experience is the OnePlus aosp ROM, but I wouldn't suggest actually flashing that because it causes nothing but problems. Just try the official stock CM12 builds that have just come out.

CM is the least "custom option heavy" Roms you will find I think. Most of the rest add more customizations that are often very helpful.
I'm currently running temasek unofficial cm12 latest version. It's got extra features but your choice to use them or not. I don't make use of all of them either (like the gesture anywhere thing, or the circular app bar when you touch the right/left most side of the phone) but things like center clock mod are awesome to change the look of your phone. And quick pulldown.
I'll attach screen shots to show.
It also has a sick dark theme

Here is the full explanation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=816658
I see that services.jar use images from framework I think that can be possible use somethink like this attached files for images (images from SwitchPro).
The problems that I fount is that explanation says modify:
com/android/server/status/StatusBarService$31
but I think that on HTC sercives.jar is:
com/android/server/status/StatusBarService$5
There are a lot of things different but I can't understant for the moment.
Very good idea to develop, interesting and useful
Common: Galaxy S style power widget in notification bar - Pedlar

I believe these are in the CM nightlies.
It's not the same, but it might be useful.

CyanogenMod and HTC also have different framework-res.apk and services.jar, for this reason, it also easly portable from this
I'm looking for this on MIUI ROM but also, it has a lot of different code, something on common an something different. But seems to be more similar with HTC framework that Samsung Vibrant.
Another ROM without Sense here with the same MOD applyed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8761473&postcount=2431
its Defrost. Currently Nightly build of CM got it. Hope this got ported to sense though.

Hi, im new to the captivate and i just flashed the serendipity rom onto my phone, and it's awesome, im going to try out some other roms and i was wondering what you guys would suggest, also, how do i make my lock screen like this, cause it's awesome. and i had it on my xperia, sooo awesome.
also this dialer
MOD EDIT: Removing nude pictures
the only ROM's that support that double lockscreen (that I know of) is cyanogenmod (or any heavily modified AOSP I suppose). and the rest of that theme looks like it was designed for an AOSP-style ROM as well.

Isn't there an app that gives you that lockscreen...WidgetLocker or something?
Yes widget locker is what you are looking for. It is in the market
Thanks you guys, this is a great alternative, how ever built into the rom it runs much smoother. For now ill run widget locker, there doesn't appear to be a cyanogen rom yet that has everything working. so il wait
Is there a way to get cyanogenmod options like having the extra settings options or swiping in the right corner to bring up quick settings screen instead of notifications without installing the cyanogenmod rom?

Not yet. You'll have to wait for CM11 nightlies or start working on your own.
I would perfer to keep the stock rom, I just want the extra menus and options like that.

I really came to love tinted system bars, the possibility of the status bar adapting its colour to the app. A quick example for anyone not familiar:

I upgraded to Android 5.0 and am missing this option a lot, it makes my screen look a lot smaller. I found workarounds with 3rd party apps for everything else still not integrated in 5.0 (like PIE controls), but could not find anything for TSB. I know XPOSED doesn't work with ART, but I'd like to know if anyone else had found a possible workaround until we get TSB. All I found was info about how to make apps take advantage of this on www.stackoverflow.com, something way too technical for me as of now.
As of now, I think its just a case of waiting for app developers to update their apps to support it in Lollipop. Some apps (mainly Google apps) support it currently - so its definitely still a feature.
There's no method to.force apps as of right now.

Was afraid of that.. Well, back on Mahdi ROM (4.4.4) again where this & PIE is built in the ROM, I like it better than 5.0 (still).
Thanks for the answer!
Ive just bought the new galaxy S7 from a galaxy S2 I had for years and so far so god everythings fine. But I miss a few features I had in the S2 (with the Resurrection Remix ROM I downloaded and installed from here).
The thing is, I dont want to install a personalized ROM so soon and I would like to manually improve the S7 or at most, to use a different launcher. But I have difficulties finding everything I want to add and also I have a few questions before doing anything.
Those are the features I used everyday and now I miss the most:
1.- Network usage on status bar. This is the only one I found how to manually add to a ROM, though I don't know if it can be done to a samsung s7 stock ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/mod-status-bar-network-traffic-separate-t3024878
2.- Seconds at the clock on status bar.
3.- When is the next alarm going off on notifications panel
4.- Compass on notifications panel
5.- Take a screenshot with an action on notification panel (waits 5 sec and takes screenshot). I know the S7 has its own way of taking a screenshot with a hand gesture, but it isnt effective and sometimes I need like 10 tries for it to detect the gesture. The button instead is 100% effective.
6.- Changing the screen turn off time in one action.

}
None of this is in the s7 stock ROM. So I would like to add this features manually if possible. Is there a way to do that? also, If I add them like the network (1) I will lose all the work if the rom updates? (this one is important).
