Hi
Been trying to find a way to shutdown the antenna without airplane mode.
I don't have 4g coverage everywhere anyway, so I figured to save some battery by shuting that down on occasion...
Anyone?
Thanks in advance

Any reason why you do not prefer the airplane mode ?
In case you are wondering, you can still turn on WiFi in airplane mode.
I'm interested too. I just got the 32gb version and the "no sim" prompt is a bit annoying. Since I don't have a sim in I don't think it's using batteries (I hope it doesn't) so it's not that bad.

There is an app in the play store called "network". Install it, open it and you can turn off the radio. Use it cautiously, you can screw up the settings if you're not careful, but it is useful for this need.

What's the problem with Airplane Mode + WiFi?
Cheers
Well I don't really have a problem with airplane mode, but would like a easy toggle / widget solution instead of the powerbutton solution

Toggle? Why can't it stay in airplane mode all the time?
Well answer is simple, in the course of a day I can enter and leave 4g/ lte /3g zones up to 10 times , and on occasion it would be nice to be able to very quickly turn on and off the 4g radio. Using the power button ( the button is a tad too "mushy" , on occasion I struggle to press it correctly) or browsing through the menus to find the toggle is a hassle ( specially now that you can't edit the toggles in the notification bar, thank you lollipop)
I think Lollipop has dynamic toggles, meaning once you access a setting a few times it would be added to your quick settings for easy access, or removed if you don't use it. I've noticed this on my phone (Moto G), but I haven't really given it any attention on my Shield tablet. It is possible Nvidia didn't keep this functionality I suppose.
Anyone know of a way to "force the issue" so to speak?
As in force lollipop to show the toggles I need....
The best solution I can think of is a 3rd party app. Power Toggles might be a good one.

You could use an RFID tag that is used with the app 'RFID Task Launcher' to turn on airplane mode and then turn on WiFi. You could setup when you tap once again to then turn off airplane mode (wifi will stay on).
Wouldn't that require root?

Problem is that lollipop seems to block third party access to ,amongst other things airplane mode
the best I've been able to do is set up a widget that sends me to the correct menu tab in settings so I can "flip" the airplane mode switch

I am looking for a simple widget or way to turn mobile data on/off like the one I used in Cyanogen Mod 7 on my Inspire.
There's an App for that
Widgetsoid2.x
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jim2
I don't think it actually turns it on and off like it does in CM ROMS. I believe it just takes you to the screen so you can turn off(uncheck) the data.
I believe only AOSP ROM have that options to actually turn it off directly

No luck with Widgetsoid2.x most of the widgets including the toggle of mobile data, the flashlight and more don't work on this phone. Thanks though.
I found a fairly easy solution to this. In the pull down menu there is both a WiFi toggle and an Airplane mode toggle. So, I just hit Airplane Mode then the WiFi toggle to turn my WiFi back on.
This is a HUGE battery saver, no real need for me to have LTE or any mobile data on most of the time because I am within range of WiFi. Seems that this has allowed me killer battery life.
Now I just need to hope for or figure out how to write an app myself which will detect a valid WiFi network, then automatically turn off mobile data. That would be nice! I think this was/is possible in CG7 but can't remember.
it works on the T989 version, so seems like the LTE is not compatible with the 4G switch in the widgets

Duh, just remembered that airplane mode also turns off the phone, voice, texting etc.. Ha ha.. Not what I was after. Oh well, back to needing a solution if anyone has one.
in Widgetsoid2 you have the option to control the data flow with the widgets, even if the LTE/4G widget doesn't work
have you tried those?

Do you mean the Mobile Data widget? If so, I did try that one but even when I turn it on, it doesn't work. Doesn't cut off mobile data at all or it brings me to the screen where I can turn it off myself. I can't remember which because I uninstalled it already.
this is partly why i switched to BeastMod since it's in the notification bar
Try 'Simple Mobile Data Link' by Marc Ole Bulling from Android Market. I installed it on my Skyrocket and it doesn't use AT&T data at all! So no more surprise data usage bills
won't have to worry myself once my original iPhone shops, unlimited data loophole
I will adding this to status bar hopefully before the weekend is over on my stock ROM posted in development section

Any application tested working with the Note to toggle between 2G and 3G ?
thanks
I don't know anything that can do this. I was searching also for something like this.
This feature is not exposed by Android API like it is in the old WinMobile platform. If anyone know the reason for this, please share.
I've seen an app for this on the market but I it seems it will work with the stock ROM
I use switchpro widget, one tap and you're straight in the correct part of settings. Easy enough for me

I'm pretty sure widgetsoid can do it.

What's wrong with the built in operation - it only requires 2 touches...
Press & hold the Power Button for just over 1 second until the power menu appears, then touch the Data Network Mode to switch between 2G & 3G.
Et voila -
Is it really worth sticking yet another app that has access to your internet connection & whatever else, just to save 1 keypress... Jeez.
This one's completely shutting off the data mode. Not just switching it to gsm.

Thank you all for your suggestions I was hoping for something automated that would switch to 2G automatically when the phone goes to sleep or something like this.
This looks pretty much like what I want but I don't know if it will work on the note

this is my problem for 2month TOO
i cant find answer and everyone in around say your phone and htc is a bad brand and ...
so i can't answer for which reason this happend
realy big problem for appZ like What's App
I'm just going to try out lowest screen brightness & never turn off screen and after that the advanced wifi lock & etting you know which works better on battery life. Tho im sure advanced wifi lock tops the other method.
I also I have the same problem, I put a link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34967017 # post34967017 to try to find help, but from what I see, is difficult to solve.
Still seems that advanced wifi lock is best solution right now. When i get 100% charge level i shall try how fast it drains the battery
But the question is why only a few phones have this problem and why a app like advanced wifi lock can fix the problem???????
Mysterious! I tried out different custom roms and radios and the problem was always the same.
Maybe one of the developers of a custom rom can help?

I'm working on permanently disabling airplane mode in a slightly customized ROM I'm working on. Essentially, I want nothing to change when a user clicks the airplane mode button.
This is on the Verizon Galaxy Tab 2 (sch-i705).
I'm hoping for a simple solution (i.e. deleting some module) that will disable the functionality behind airplane mode or adjust which radios toggle when airplane mode is enabled.
I'm not sure where to start - right now I'm slogging through an upacked system.img with no success, and haven't found anything in my xda/google searches. Ideas of what files I could remove or modify?
So far I've tried looking through existing modules to see if airplane mode is like wifi (ie has drivers or something that can somehow be removed). It was a longshot, and I didn't come up with anything.
Anyone have any idea what I could modify in the system image to adjust which radios airplane mode toggles?
Still haven't figured this out - anyone have any ideas?

I'm working on designing an educational tablet that can be remotely managed (new content can be pushed, new apps can be added for the students, etc.). The issue is, if a student accidentally (or on purpose) turns on Airplane Mode, I would lose my connection with the tablet and be unable to interact with it, or restore it remotely. Not allowing airplane mode would be an easy way to avoid this problem.
It doesn't seem like there is an easy way to do this though.. I'm trying to sort out whether I could change the radios Airplane Mode toggles, or maybe change the UI so Airplane mode isn't offered as an option (right now it can only be accessed by pushing the power button, because I have access to settings restricted)
Any ideas?
That sounds like that solves your problem to remove airplane mode from the power menu.

Hello Z3 owners,
I know this is probably only 1 setting but I can't find it.
What I ment was that when I'm connected to a WiFi I'll only get messages from Whatsapp for example when I'm turning
on the screen for about 3 seconds.
Is this an energyoption ? Didn't found anything till yet.
Sorry for my bad english
Thanks in advance

Your English is better than my Spielergesprechan.
Go to the battery manager, then scroll down until you see Whatsapp (for example), and ensure you don't have `restrict background data` set for it.
In WiFi advanced settings there is an option to set if you want WiFi always on, or always on if connected to charger or off with screen off. I'm guessing its set to turn off with screen off.

Guess this was my mistake, it was set to "None ( Higher Datavolume )"
Nevermind, even with this Setting it doesn't work..
I could record my screen ( for example if I get a mail or sth ) and show it to you if needed
The messages only arrive if I unlock it.

I really don't get what's the problem :s

Got the solution. I had some other energysettings on.
For example: I had WLAN-Energyoptions turned on while my Stamina-Mode was off.
Or my stamina Mode was on and my WLAn-Energyoptinos were off.
Ridiculous..
My problem is solved now! Thanks for all your help.
