Does anyone know a way to use encrypted phone and use TWRP and flash custom roms with it?
The thing is that my company Exchange server needs the phone to be encrypted to be able to sync mails, contacts and calendar.
It seems TWRP can't flash custom roms while the phone is encrypted?
What I have done/tested this far:
1) Flash CM11S 44S with the fastboot images so the phone is completely stock.
2) After reboot I encrypted the phone
3) Reboot to fastboot and flash TWRP
4) reboot back to CM11S to see it still works
5) Reboot back to recovery and flash CM12 rom (with full wipe)
After I reboot I get to the screen asking my PIN code to decrypt the phone. After inserting the pin I get a screen which just states that the PIN was correct but my data is corrupted and I need to do a factory reset.
After factory reset, the same info comes up at the next boot.
IS there a way to make this work?
Different ROMs might use slightly different methods of encryption. So I guess you can't really make big ROM changes when encrypted. Cm11s to cm11 might work bit you are probably not too interested in that.
I started to use Nine app for mails and stuff. Nine keeps the east policies on app basis so I can continue to use my phone with cm and have work mails etc on the phone
Does on custom ROM works encryption? I tried a couple ROMS, but encryption never works. Always starts encryption and after a a couple seconds phone reboots, do not encrypted. I tried encrypt after fresh install, but always unsuccessful. I googled, some peoples with other devices encrypt their devices. If I remember good, my nexus4 on paranoid was encrypted. Maybe this problem only on s6?

I've got a feeling it's because knox has been tripped.

Actually just saw this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/device-encryption-root-t3400259
@sofir786, thanks. I checked my logs, the phone always reboots, because he can't unmount files. I found information how temporary disable root, but no succes.
yes encryption works on any rom you just need to unroot ,encrypt ,and root .
1. unroot your phone from su app ( or try to perform a factory reset and wipe Dalvik cache in TWRP )
2. encrypt your phone
3. your phone is now encrypted try flash "CF-autoroot"via odin .
ok, encryption worked, but after encryption boot loop (stuck on samsung logo) Why?
Second time I tried fast encryption, but same end, won't boot, stuck on samsung logo.
booted to TWRP, but can't decrypt or enter to any partition.
so, guys, does somebody has encrypted s6 with custom rom? Always after encryption I get bootloop, but after unrooting device boots without problem. And, after encryption TWRP do not show encrypted partition, do not ask for key or etc.

Twrp won't recognise the partition from what I've read that's why you don't see it, have a little Google it seems it's a common issue with twrp and encrypted partitions

I googled, but no 100% true information. But if I understand good, the problem is with samsung encryption and TWRP.
So, if encryption + TWRP do not work, so custom rom with encryption bad choice, because you can't update your rom, make backup or flash new after encryption. Yes, is one possibility, to decrypt, but for this need a lot of time (if I remember good, 24+ hours).
Hi folks,
My MI4C is on the weekly MIUI 7.4.x, I am now looking to upgrade, hence as usual I rebooted in recovery.
The phone has obviously root and unlocked bootloader.
TWRP is asking for my encryption password, which I know, but no matter what, TWRP does not flipping accept the password!
What can I do?
Do you know if you have the Nougat bootloader or the old one?
I have not found a TWRP that can successfully decrypt it Nougat bootloader ROMs. If you are not on the Nougat Bootloader then I recommend trying Team Superluminal's TWRP, since that is the only one that worked with encryption enabled for me I think.
Have you got a working rom/os on the phone ?, If you do have try to add a password on the rom, hope the twrp has a new working crypto after that and ask you for a new password. If it didnt work try to reinstall the twrp by erasing it first.
Hi, I am on the Nougat bootloader, I tried to change the encryption password, tried to remove the encryption, but nothing worked, TWRP is still asking me the password to access the data partition.
What can I do?
I cannot wipe the phone, as I use it for my work, how can I upgrade TWRP when encryption is on?
Hi folks, anybody in my situation? I would like to avoid wiping the entire phone just because of the TWRP password bug.
I changed to a PIN password, but nothing works.
Hi folks, I searched wide and large, it seems I cannot access TWRP anymore after having encrypted my phone.
I have a Mi4C, with the 7.4 weekly ROM (MIUI 8.3).
I set the encryption in order to use the company eMail app.
When I tired to enter TWRP I was asked the encryption password, but it did not work, so I tried to:
Remove the encryption altogether
Encrypt with a new Password
Encrypt with PIN
I have installed the latest TWRP 3.1.1. via the TWRP APP, same issue.
Nothing has worked.... Can I just remove TWRP and install a newer version?
How do I overwrite the file that has that TWRP encryption record?
You can try flashing updated twrp, but I doubt it will remove encryption without wiping data.
Anyway, if you wanna remove encryption you've to wipe data via TWRP.
Thanks for answering, I did try to upgrade TWRP, no success. I will wipe.
Hi everyone,
So I know I probably ****ed up but I had to ask.
Recently the touchscreen on my OnePlus 5 stopped working out of nowhere.
Now I bought a new phone but I still wanted to try to recover some data.
I had to disable my lockscreen because I was unable to unlock the phone, which I managed to do by deleting some files with TWRP.
Now here is where I think I messed up. Without knowing what it was for I deleted locksettings.db which I later found out stores the keys needed to decrypt the data partition.
Is there anything I can do to recover some data?
I know I should have made a backup, or instead of delete the file rename the file but I am past that point now.
Things I have acces to:
adb
Touch screen by mirroring to pc with vysor
TWRP
Edit: phone is rooted with magisk
If there is anything I can do any help would be greatly appreciated.
If not, so be it.
Regards,
Bart
If phone's bootloader is already unlocked, crypto-footer is present in EFS/metadata and userdata is encrypted with "default_password", so it is possible to decrypt from custom recovery TWRP without locksettings.db at all (except Samsung)

Hey, thanks for the reply!
My bootloader is unlocked, however default_password does not work as far as I've tried. I was able to unlock my data before I deleted locksettings.db with my screen pin. I know what the pin is still but it also does not work anymore. Also I do not know how to check if the crypto-footer is present in EFS/metadata.
I forgot to mention also that the phone is rooted with magisk, if that makes any difference. What should I do/try?
Regards,
Bart
