Where's the option to keep this thing from locking/sleeping when you put it face down? If I'm listening to a youtube playlist, I don't want coworkers walking by thinking I'm watching a video, so I want to keep it face down, but when I do, it sleeps/locks and the music stops. Really damned annoying.

It is very annoying when I need to do the exact thing but in my bed. I had a look through the display, security and power consumption settings. But I wouldn't find anything.
The option to mute the device by placing it face down works only during calls. I do not know another similar option.
you can use tasker and secure settings.
Root is not required for this.
Did you solve this issue? I am having the same problem with my z1 compact. I have tried lots of apps to keep the screen on but to no avail.

Will tasker definately keep the screen on when face down? I dont want to pay for it if it isnt going to work.
Thanks

No, it's not. Do you have underclocking profiles for when the screen is off? If so, having it set too low interferes with playing music; bump it up a little. If not, try clearing the application data (settings > manage applications > [find the app] > clear data).
As far as I know, the only way to get lock screen controls is if you use a third party lockscreen (Widgetlocker; others may work too, idk) and install Phantom Music Control.

Yea I found out it was juice defender turning my data off with screen off.
Crap still does not go to next track with screen off even on wifi or with data on
What player are you using? Some don't stay on. Try DoubleTwist.

Just the Google Music app, poweramp works fine. But I'd rather stream than load my sd card
Bump, does anyone else use Google Music? It keeps sometimes auto advancing the music and others it won't play the next song in the album unless I turn the screen on after the previous track ends. This is with Data always on or not so it's not that. I wish PowerAmp could not just see the Pinned for offline but also read the meta-data

Yes sometime it will play 20 seconds then jump to next song..
I'm having the same problem with Google Music - music stops playing after each song and resumes when I press the power button. I had this problem unrooted and rooted. I don't know if it only happens with Google Music because that's the only music app I use. Might switch over to the stock music app for a while and see if that's any better.

It's just the Google Music app, poweramp works fine or other apps.
I've been having this problem for months now, and it seems there's no interest in fixing it. It's not just your phone, either--I'm on a T-mo version of this phone and it happens on any rom, rooted or not, and I despise the built-in music app.

I'm glad I'm not the only one and going crazy haha, hopefully google will get the Google Music app updated quickly or allow 3rd party apps to access the streams
I should have posted my app in here a long time ago. But I guess it is never too late to post it and hope for some good feedback on how to improve the app even further.
What does SleepTimer do:
It simply gives you a way of stopping your music after x minutes. Set it, and listen to music (or a video) in the evening without having to worry about the music running at 3am and waking you up from your sleep. SleepTimer lets you even do more like turning off wifi and/or mobile data after it turned off the music so you do not get interrupted by those annoying WhatsApp messages .
Scenarios
1. Turning off music after falling asleep
2. Turning off remote music like iTunes Remote, YouTube over ChromeCast, ... (needs some configuration)
3. Like fall asleep while talking with your love but hate high phone bills? Let SleepTimer stop the phone call (needs some configuration)
For most use cases SleepTimer just works. Open it up, set time, start. Done. And it even looks nice (at least I think so).
Only like 6% of the apps need some additional configuration to make them work.
More details (only for those who want to know/read more)
The app uses many different techniques to turn off the music. Audio controls, audio foreground, and even notifications since the newest version. Sadly there are some really bad music players out there that do not support any way of stopping their music except for opening the app and using the stop button in there. In such cases there is only the way of lowering the volume (which I hate ). I hope those developers get to work and implement a proper Music Player. Luckily most apps work though.
About notifications (new since October 2014)
This I am actually pretty proud about and took me a while to implement. And it gives us two new features.
1. Stop music using the notification
So if they have a pause/stop/close control in the notifcation, one can add a custom action in settings, select the app and click on the button in the notification that stops the music. SleepTimer will then use that button in the notification to stop the music. That allows more ways to stop an app and allows to stop apps like iTunes Remote, YouTube with ChromeCast, ...
2. Wait until the end of a track
If enabled, SleepTimer will not turn off the music immediately but wait until the track ends. This is done using the text content of the notification. As soon as the text in a notification changes SleepTimer knows that the track is changing and it will send a stop request immediately. (As well it ignores numbers like 3:12 which is obviously not track information but time information)
Shake extend
If enabled, you can extend the timer by shaking your phone. So you can set some quiet chime to run one minute before the timer runs out. If you can still hear it then just shake to phone to extend the timer.
Root
One can enable root in advanced settings to have even more options when the timer ends. For example turning off the phone or turning on airplane mode.
I hope you do like the app. If not, let me know why. If you have any recommendations or questions, please just ask. As well any ideas how to improve the app further are welcome.
Cheers,
Patrick

It supports a lot of music and video players. Basically all of them that support the events of Android that good Audio Player apps should support according to Google Many players I tested (Stock, Google Play Music, TuneIn, Spotify, YouTube, ...) worked. And even if they don't work by default, try out adding a custom action in settings in on sleep actions.

Yes it is. But only if you have a rooted phone. If you do, then enable root in the advanced settings and then go into the On Sleep Actions settings where you will find the turn off phone option .
I think it would be great idea to add some notification with countdown(few seconds), before phone shutting down.
This is a really neat app! All the other sleep timers I tried didn't feature root options like airplane mode etc. Thanks a lot!
Just a little request: Could you add a screen off option as well? I mean sure, the device will turn off the display afterwards by itself, but I thought it might be useful.
Continuous sleep mode
Hi
I would like to know if the app can be configured so that if I fall asleep with earphones on and wake up and press the play/stop button on the earphones, theaudio I was listening to continues, but is automatically in sleep countdown mode without having to start Sleep Timer again.
This is the way the sleep mode in Smart Audiobooks works and it is very nice.
Thanks.
I'm on the stock g920T---OCG rom, rooted, and looking for a way to control the music in my pocket.
Anyone care to teach me how to make this mod?
Maybe it already exists somewhere? :highfive:
Such an awesome mod that really does need to be added as an option in stock ROMs more often. Be much better than accidentally blasting mega volume into your ears because you've already accepted responsibility for bypassing safe volume once today :3
In other words, BUMP!
I haven't seen it yet. Maybe that'll be my next mission.
I agree. This should be an option on stock roms. I'm surprised that it isn't by now.
Also, whenever I get a notification while listening to music it'll fade out then play notification sound then music again.
That is a nice feature for calls but not notifications. Is there any way to change it?
For now I just turn off wifi/data.

Do you use the stock music player? I use Power Amp and don't get that. Unless it's because I have notifications set to mute?

My Galaxy S6 keeps randomly pausing music playback while I have it connected to the aux input in my car for no apparent reason. Phone is rooted on the stock AT&T Rom and has been restored via ODIN twice without any change. It did this before root as well without change. I have disabled nuplayer in the dev settings and tried resyncing my library multiple times thinking it was due to corrupted files. This clearly is a samsung issue and seems to be apparent with older generations of the Galaxy series as well. Does anyone have a fix? I can't imagine the rest of you are actually putting up with this bug on a $600 phone. It's really driving me nuts having to keep fiddling with the damn phone while I'm driving to unpause the music, raise the volume past the warning, just to do it again a few minutes later. Tried the stock music app as well as doubletwist, no changes. Could this be caused by some motion sensing feature that needs to be disabled?
So who here has a fix? Appreciate any tips or solutions. Thanks
I know I'm not the only one. Who knows the fix and wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks
Bump for info
I have a similar issue, as my Bluetooth earphones just stops playing music. The the strange thing is that my other pair of Bluetooth earphones work fine, and I've never had any issue with other Bluetooth media connections (including those in a car). It could be specific to your car.
I'm using Google Play Music.
Have you tried it with another system?

Do you guys happen to have the music pause gesture? Had this problem with the note 3 where video seems like it was lagging really bad but it was actually pausing and unpausing because of smart stay. Turned it off and it was perfect. It's probably a screen protector messing with the sensors for the gesture.

I faced this too.
This happened when i play music directly from the Widget. However if i open the app and play music, it didnt stop.
Hope this helps.
Blame the ****ty memory management that keeps killing apps.

OP, are you saying that when it pauses, it also resets the volume warning? Or was that just additional annoyance?
^^Combination of both. When playing music on the device via aux in my car, I have the phone set to max volume, then control volume output via my car. When using the stock music app, doubletwist, etc, the music will randomly pause playback for no reason while the screen is off while the phone sits in my lap untouched. Smart stay is off, and I'm running out of ideas honestly. Been listening to Pandora recently and haven't had issues in the past four days, so it's something with music playback for the device only. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
Maybe your cable is loose or has a bad connection on one end or the other? When you unplug headphones, music playback stops. Try using an app like Trigger or Tasker to make something happen on headphone unplug, such as launching a certain app or whatnot so that you'll know if the phone thinks it got unplugged.
Try clearing the cache of the music app ir use Cache Cleaner (downloadable from Playstore) to clean all cache. You can also try going to recovery mode to wipe cache.
Unfortunately I clear cache weekly, and am certain its not a connection issue. Are there additional touch or motion sensor other than the smart stay function (currently disabled) that could be triggering this?
I don't know what to tell you. Using aux is similar to plugging in via headphones and I've had no issues in that regard. I've had no problems with Bluetooth streaming either. In cases like this, it could be app interference or faulty hardware.
Sent from my SM-T805 using Tapatalk
Is it only happening when you're using it in your car? What about with headphones or BT audio connections.
Do you have any sound effects enabled? I noticed that SoundAdapt really affected the performance of my phone, so it could be a factor.

I'm almost certain its some kind of gesture that is interfering. I don't use any of them and will gladly disable anything that could remotely cause this. I noticed the other night when my friend was driving my car, I was sitting in the passenger seat with my phone playing music through aux for at least an hour and no pausing whatsoever. I had the phone in my hand the entire time instead of near my leg sitting face up on my seat, which made me realize it must be some lockscreen gesture interfering. Any ideas?
Is the screen actually on? I don't know of any gestures that have an effect while the screen is off other than the one that makes the time display pop up, and I don't think that would cause music to pause.
There's a gesture that mutes if you put your hand over the sensors. Maybe it thinks that is getting tripped? But I don't know if that would cause the music to pause. Maybe try intentionally doing that gesture to see what effect it has?
If you think it's a gesture, just disable all of them and see if the problem clears up, then slowly reenable them to see when it breaks again.

Thanks. I will try that and let you know. I went ahead and disabled all of them. The screen is off btw when this happens.
I think it is because you are playing the music on full volume. I believe that the phone on some songs can't support the power output causing it to pause. Try instead playing it one level less than max. I noticed that this only happens with some songs specifically at max volume. This doesn't happen at a lower volume on these songs.
Galaxy s6 edge and s6 music pause or stop issue fixed
i had the same issue with my Samsung Galaxy s6 edge. music stops or pauses especially when i am using Soundcloud, pandora, Milk music player or Beatport.
but i fixed the issue .
First open the "Smart Manager" app and select battery.
Second select "details" and you should see most of the apps that uses more power.
Select "Cancel Auto stop" on the apps u want will be using especially your music app. if you don't want then to stop after sometime.
Thank you
Hope this solves ur problem
I am having this same problem on my S6 edge. Not rooted (first phone I haven't felt the need to root since the Evo).
It happens whether using connected headphones, bluetooth headphones, or in the car A2DP using the Google Music app, Pandora, or Slacker.
Was hypothesizing that notifications are causing the pauses. Would like to try the suggestion above but WHERE IS THE SMART MANAGER app?
Also, was wondering if anyone with the problem fooled around with the animation scale settings described here: http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/galaxy-s6-tips-and-tricks/4/ (under How to unlock Developer options)? Wondering if that is causing my/our problems.
Thanks,
Tony
I had just noticed, when listening to Spotify music with my phone faced down, the music stops after 3 songs (not sure if related, but the AOD time also disappears, probably to save power). When I listen to music with my phone facing up, it does not stop.
Any one know if this could be turned off by some setting somewhere? When I'm at work, I usually have my phone faced down so I don't get distracted with AOD and notifications and stuff.
Thanks
any thoughts guys? or can someone else at least confirm whether or not they are getting this same issue? thanks
