How to enable ultra power saving mode on galaxy note 3 lollipop rom (no root method) - Galaxy Note 3 General

The Ultra Power Saving mode happens to be one of the features from the Samsung Galaxy s5 that i really wanted on my Galaxy Note 3. And i was hoping that the Kitkat update would bring this feature but that didn't happen and so did the leaked lollipop ROM. I recently stumbled on a tutorial on XDA on how to enable this feature by flashing a zip file and installing a new settings app, which requires rooting your device first. After a bit of tinkering with QuickShortcutMaker, i was able to dig into a hidden settings option which allows me to switch to the Ultra Power saving mode and enable the Greyscale mode.
First of you need to have the Lollipop ROM Installed on your Galaxy Note 3 and QuickShortcutMaker. If you have these already then you can follow the steps below. (you can achieve the same thing with Nova launcher, however i find it takes a lot more steps than QuickShortcutmaker)
1. Open the QuickShortcutmaker app, and switch to normal search from the incremental search.
2. Type in "saving" into the input field and tap on Search, you should get four results in the Settings icon.
3. tap on the Settings icon and tap on the items (i would recommend with starting with the third item) listed to get into the Shortcut creation page where you can try the shortcut to see what it does, edit the label and change the icon.
4.Tap on Try to see what the shortcut does, if you tapped on the right one. You should see the screen below.
5. Press the back button to get back to the shortcut creation page and tap on Create to place a shortcut to this menu on your homescreen (you can change the label and icon from here before creating the shortcut).
6. Once you have created the shortcut, you can now head back to your Homescreen and open the Adavnced (Ultra) Power saving menu by tapping on the shortcut icon you just created. You can choose to enable or disable any of the options in the menu, for me i rather not have the background data restricted so i have that turned off.
If you do not want to go through all the steps there is an installable APK which i have attached, that simplifies all this process.

Using the Nova launcher takes a lot more steps that's it's just better to install QuickShortcutmaker for this

UPSM won't stick. When you open it again, its still off. Is this really working. However, I'm sure gray scale is working.

Yes it works for me. My battery life has improved with this tweak. Background data does get restricted too (if enabled). I have had a look at it, look it seems this mode is quite different from the ultra power saving mode advertised for the Samsung Galaxy S5, as it allows you to use as many apps as before but under with grey scale

This is not a ultra power saving mod but just Gray scale mod of power saving.
You can't enable UPSM on N3/N4 by just adding shortcut as many resources are missing for that.
If you don't want to do too many steps then just use my APSM application (It's part of my ROM as well shared to Echos ROM - nearly page 760-770) for gray scale mod.

@martinkem thanks mate, i can get into those settings, but i can't enable the ultra mode.
any solution?

The UPSM doesnt stick, the mode you can actually enable is the Greyscale power saving mode.

wow! thanks for the share.

Thanks man

:good:wrks good. grayscale wrking.

The method with the shortcut app didn't work here because I didn't get any results searching for "saving'. However, the apk works line a charm. Thanks!

I've only tried UPSM through a custom ROM and I must say it's still not close to the official one. I'm gonna try this one, thanks

[Q] Live Toggle Tiles

The ability to toggle things on and off from the home screen have always been important to me. This is something I feel is major that WP7 doesn't have. I am looking for the ability to have a toggle switch to turn Wifi, bluetooth, airplane mode, and other similar things on and off from the home screen. In searching the closest thing I could find is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7238403&highlight=toggle+switch#post7238403
If anyone knows about development of toggle switches or know if they are coming in the update that would be great. Thanks in advance.
Try attached file this contain toogle for.
airplane mode
wifi settings
bluetooth
data connection
location
Are these supposed to be toggle switches for the home screen or just open then settings for each individual application? For me this is taking it from three steps to turn Wifi on and off of only two steps. Thank you for the reply, and I absolutely love your registry thread, but I don't think this is what I am looking for. Please let me know if I am wrong.

No problem. You can do it yourself.
1. Rename the .xap file to .zip
2. Unzip the file
3. Open the unzipped folder
4. Replace the application and background icons with the icons of your choice (same size)
5. Zip all files again
6. Rename the new .zip file to .xap
7. Deploy
Personally I use Dinik Anastasia icons because on OMNIA 7 they look much better than the metro icons...
here are some to http://forum.touchxperience.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=591
edit: XBmod posted the same .
Not Switches
Once you go to settings and set each of these application you do not need a button on the home screen to get back to each individual setting. This is a waist of space for a home screen that is supposed to be clean. The switch would just turn it on and off from the home screen. I am not looking for a shortcut (and I know what one is), I am hoping to find someone working one toggle switches for the home screen.
What it would need to be is a program that runs a live tile. When the particular tile is clicked on the home screen it would have the program switch that particular connection on or off.
The look of the tile doesn't matter unless it is a useful tile.

better than this you don't get for the moment
I figured this when I searched and searched and couldn't find anything. I am hoping to spur somebody into working one this, or finding someone that already is. I was also hoping to find out if Microsoft was thinking about this.
What I would love is a one tap shortcut to 1 page with all the toggles. So instead of me going to setting- wifi - on I could go settings -on , this would apply for bluetooth, location, brightness, etc.
I swore I saw this app posted somewhere but so far all i could find are the individual app shortcuts.
PS If you're like me and actually use voice control all the time, I actually installed the wifi and location shortcuts but didn't pin them to the home screen I simple hold down the start button and say "Open Wifi" works like a charm!
I'm also waiting for a toggle feature. In fact its the only reason I haven't purchased a WP7 device yet.
As soon as there's an easy way to toggle data on/off I'm buying the HD7.
take a look .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934727
The OP said 3 or 4 times that he doesn't want to have that, lucmar! And if you would read the first page you would see exactly that! He wants to have a toggle to switch it on/off! Is reading a post that hard?
Personally the live toggle tiles are a waste of space. My idea is to have the toggles in the menu bar that pops up when you press the volume buttons.
So you press the volume buttons, the menu pops up, you swipe left or right (same you get rid of notifications) and it brings up another part of the menu bar with access to all the common toggles.
The main advanage of this is that you can access the toggles from anywhere as the volume bar is OS wide so you don't have to quit your app/game to access the toggles unlike if you have live tiles.
This is a great idea and would be nice as an overall experience. This would take a lot of programming, and at the rate Microsoft is coming out with updates, this would not be done for another 2 or 3 years. That is why I can asking for a very simple program that turns on and off settings and has a toggle switch when pinned to the home screen. This would only take a day or two by an experience programmer. Anyone?

Immersive Mode For Jellybean Devices

Is there a way to get Immersive Mode on Jelly Bean?
With semi transparent status bar which appers when one swipes down on the top? like in kitkat
Hi, unfortunately, currently there isn't anything exactly like Kitkat's Immersive mode, and transparent status bars, while possible, the process of enabling them on your device is very technical and potentially dangerous for your device.
HOWEVER. I can tell you that there is a way to get something similar to Immersive Mode. I'll guide you through it.
First off, you need root. I can't explain this because the rooting process is different for each device, but I'm sure you can figure it out.
Now, you'll need to download Xposed Installer. Just search for that on Google and you should find it no problem. Download and install the apk. Open the app, and allow superuser access. Now, tap Framework, and tap on Install/Update. This will install the Xposed Framework, which is needed for this process. Reboot your device by tapping Soft Reboot, Reboot, or just turn your device off and then turn it back on.
Next, open Xposed and tap on Download. This will list all kinds of things called Modules, which do fancy things to your device. Look through and find Gravitybox [JB] and tap on it. Download it by scrolling down, and when asked to install, do so. Now, back out to the welcome screen, and tap on modules. Gravity box should be listed, but if it isn't just wait for a minute or two, and it should appear. Tap on the check box to the left of the icon, and reboot your device like you did before.
Provided everything has gone OK, you're in the home stretch. Open Gravitybox from the app drawer, and if asked for superuser permission, say yes. You'll see a list of a lot of things, but you want to tap on Display Tweaks. At the top of the list is a setting for Expanded Desktop Mode. Tap on it and select hide both, and you're done!
Now, whenever you want to hide the status bar and navigation bar (That's the top bar and bottom bar), just hold the power button to open your power options, and select the option to enable Expanded Desktop Mode! When you want to switch back, just repeat those steps!
Let me know if you need any more help!

Q&A - FAQ
Note to first time installers of MOAR
Three things are "assumed" before attempting to install MOAR:
1. You are already rooted.
2. You have a custom recovery already installed.
3. You understand the consequences of installing a custom recovery and custom rom.
This thread is not the place to ask how to root or how to install a custom recovery.
Special install note to Android 4.4.4 users:
MOAR is based on 4.4.2. Here's what you need to do:
Method 1:
See @rompnit's post ->HERE<-. This can be done without Odin.
Method 2:
1. You should have MOAR (the installer) on your internal or external SD.
2. Download and Odin the NE5 firmware. Uncheck auto-reboot in Odin and make sure you have a blue ID:COM light.
3. Click the AP button and put the NE5 firmware file there. Click Start. Wait for Odin to finish, then reboot manually into custom recovery. (Volume UP, Home and Power).
4. Flash MOAR.
5. Profit!
NOTE: Please read the original post (OP) for MOAR (and for the download link or click Downloads from the black bar above this post), as many answers can be found there. @rompnit and @tdunham put a lot of time and effort to give us the Mother Of All Roms. We owe it to them search for answers before posting. Chances are, you'll find your answer.
NOTE: Please use the forums SEARCH feature before posting a question that may have already been answered.
NOTE: [GUIDE] - XDA New User Guide - Getting started on XDA <- Great read if you're new here. :good:
NOTE: Search techniques for first-timers
1. Searching from a mobile device is difficult but can be done. These screenshots should help you if using the XDA app on your phone:
. .
. .
2. If on a computer, in the XDA forum, you can search globally for any XDA subject or just the thread you're viewing. (Upper right-hand section of browser) Since we're mostly interested in MOAR, you'd use the thread search.
3. Keep your search term reasonably simple. For example: Searching for "prl" would result in any post with the word prl, if you're really trying to find out how to write a prl file on your phone, try "write prl". Try different ways. Bonus Tip: Using Google and adding XDA can yield great results too. For example, "write prl xda".
4. Results of the search can give multiple results, scan through them to see if you can find your answer. (Hint: User your browsers back button to go back to search results.
5. Some more tips on using Internet Search Engines.
NOTE: MOAR Mod Control mini user's guide can be found in post #2
NOTE: Many questions can be answered by going into MOAR Mod Control and going through all of the various settings.
1. MOAR Mods
(a). Q: Where can I find the mod to do …..?
@tdunham's New Stuff Mods v1.x for MOAR v2.2 can be found ->HERE<-.

MOAR Caller ID Backgrounds Flash in Recovery
@JoeyDuran's MOAR Section Settings Icons Note: Click small Download button (2nd one) Flash in Recovery
@willowmaker420's Themed Settings Icons. Screenshots ->HERE<-. Alternate download location ->HERE<-.
NOTE: If you are doing a clean install, you only have to flash the latest mod, every previous mod will be included.
(b). Q: I want to change a selection I made during installation, how do I do this?
MOAR's Aroma Installer is designed to allow you to install the ROM and the add-on's or just the add-on's by themselves.
If you need to make a change, select the second option.
. .
These are the options you'll see as you go through the installer, they are the same for both selections (Install Rom & Add-ons or just Install Add-ons)
. .
. .
. .
. .
. .
(c). Q: I’m missing my Sprint / Samsung / Google app. What happened to them?
MOAR has been de-bloated, but you can restore any app that was removed (or add any) by downloading and flashing the Aroma powered bloat package =>HERE<=.
Install missing bloatware:
. .
. .
. .
Remove bloatware:
. .
. .
(d). Q: How do I get Smart Remote / IR Blaster to work?
You need to install Smart Remote from the Bloat Package (See question (c) above). Additionally, if you are using KT Kernel you have to download and install an older version (KT-SGS5-KK4.4-TW-G900-09.21.2014.zip)
2. MOAR Theming
(a). Q: Can MOAR be themed?
Yes, @stangdriver44 created THE MISSING LINK. It's been tested on MOAR v2.2 and gives you moar choices than you can imagine! Please post any questions on THE MISSING LINK thread.
Until @stangdriver44 advises otherwise, only use the section in these screenshots:
. .
Under "Build My Own", the three sections pointed to are not designed to work on Sprint, do not use.
. .
UPDATE: Tested with MOAR 2.2.
Links to additional themes from @reverepats, @JoeyDuran and @willowmaker420 are located in post#6. Thanks guys
(b). Q: How do I get the custom toggles that I've seen in screen shots? When I try it, they look like a blob. (MOAR v2.0 +)
Refer to Notificaton Panel section of MOAR Mod Control User Guide (post #2) for instructions.
(c). Q: I don’t like the boot animation, can I change it?
Update: As well as the instructions below for manually creating your own bootanimations, I posted some of the ones I've done. These are all flashable in recovery. They can be found ->HERE<-. Also seven of my favorites in an all in one Aroma installer can be found ->HERE<-.
Great instructions can be found =>HERE<= as well as a link to bootanimations. You can find more all over the Internet. Most won't be sized correctly for our phone (1080 x 1920) so you'll need to do some modifications, on a PC.
1. First you'll need an unzipping programs such as 7Zip.
2. Unzip your bootanimation.zip and you will have files "similar" to this:
3. Open the desc.txt file, using Notepad. There are two numbers that need to be changed. It doesn't matter what the original numbers are, you need to change them to 1080 1920. Ignore anything else in that file. Make sure to click "File" and the "Save". (Or close Notepad and Save when prompted).
4. Now you need to re-save all the files in that folder, use CTRL-A to select them and then right click on your desktop. You should see a screen that looks like the next screenshot. Click Add to archive. Make sure you change Archive format to "Zip" and Compression level to "Store". Click OK.
5. Rename the file to bootanimation.zip if it's not already and move it to the file location on your phone as shown on the link in the second paragraph. Reboot!
(d). Q: How do I add widgets to the lockscreen?
To enable/disable Lockscreen Widgets on MOAR v2.0 *with* @tdunham's MOAR 2.0 Mods: Go to Mod Control -> Lockscreen Options.
To add/delete lockscreen widgets, @tdunham wrote instructions that can be found =>HERE<=.
(e). Q: Can I change the pulldown image or the statusbar image?
For portrait pulldowns and statusbars, go to MOAR Mod Control -> Statusbar Settings -> Backgrounds and/or MOAR Mod Control -> Notification Panel -> Backgrounds.
Statusbar and pulldowns will now scale in landscape mode. If your statusbar and pulldown is a solid color or doesn't change with scaling then your good to go. If you want a different statusbar or pulldown in landscape mode then you must add a statusbar_land.png and/or pulldown_land.png to the internal SD moar folder. To look right they should be sized as 1920x75 (statusbar) and 1920x1080 (pulldown). Here's a Windows program for resizing and converting your image.
(f). Q: I'm trying to change the image for wallpaper, lockscreen and/or pulldown, why doesn't it work?
You need to be using the Touchwiz (TW) gallery. The AOSP Gallery won't work. Re-flash MOAR and select option 2 (Install Add-ons only). You will NOT be reflashing the rom itself. Go through the options and when you get to "Gallery" select the TW Gallery".
3. General
(a). Q: Should I do a clean install of MOAR, or is a dirty flash okay? Alternate problem: I did a clean install of MOAR, but it won't boot.
From the MOAR OP:
// MOAR v2.2 [NE5 / 4.4] [11.09.2014]
** 1st Boot will take forever, and the animation may lag. This is normal!
** A clean install is HIGHLY recommended and can be done easily from the installer.
Click to collapse
In addition, you should install the LATEST version of @tdunham's New Stuff mods.
Generally, there's no harm in doing a dirty flash. Try it, if you don't experience any problems, then you're okay. If you have FCs right away or other problems, the do a clean install. YMMV.
If you just installed MOAR but it's not booting, per @tdunham:
You cant run a 4.4.2 rom on top of the NK4 bootloader, you have to also flash the NK4 kernel.
You have a couple of choices:
- if you want to stay on the NK4 bootloader, flash the NK4 kernel from HERE before rebooting the rom after flashing (uncheck reboot) OR
- flash the mini-bootloader to bring the phone back to NE5 bootloader first HERE
Its probably easier just to obtain and flash the NK4 kernel after the rom but its up to you. Don't forget to do a full wipe before flashing any rom.

(b). Q: Where can I get flashable recovery?
The two available recoveries for Sprint GS5 are TWRP and Philz. Both can be found ->HERE<-. The .tar file(s) must be installed with Odin. Zip files are flashed in your present custom recovery. Older versions included, in most cases you'll want to install the latest version. In addtion, @ktoonsez KT TWRP v2.8.2.0 (or newer) is available ->HERE<-.
Note: If Odin link for v3.10 not working, here's alternate.
(c). Q: Why am I getting the error stating "do not have program installed" when I try to change the lockscreen wallpaper?
You need to install the Touchwiz (TW) Gallery, not the AOSP Gallery. Re-flash the MOAR Aroma installer and select the second option to "Change Add-On's only". When you get to the Gallery section, choose TW. Finish going through selections and reboot. You won't be wiping anything out.
(d). Q: It looks like I have two wifi/4g icons. How do I get rid of it?
That's Download Booster. You can toggle it on or off via Setting -> Network Connections -> Download Booster.
(e). Q: Can I use MOAR on my T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon etc. S5?
No. MOAR is a Sprint based ROM which can only be used on the Sprint network, which includes Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile. Sprint uses CDMA. For an understanding of CDMA vs GSM, here's a wikipedia article.
UPDATE: For those on the Galaxy S5 Sport SM-G860P, see @tdunham's thread ->HERE<-. Make sure to read both posts 1 and 2 (as well as the rest of the thread!)
(f). Q: How come I'm missing some settings in the Camera app?
This is not a MOAR issue, and not really an issue at all. When you tap the Settings "Gear" in the Camera, there isn't a scroll bar, but if you slide your finger up/down on the settings, the rest of the settings will come into view.
(g). Q: Where can I find the stock kernels?
Stock kernels courtesy of @tdunham are available ->HERE<-. (All 6 stock kernels, flashable recovery zips and flashable Odin versions)
(h). Q: Can I return my phone to stock, unrooted state before taking it to a Sprint store?
SM-G900P_NE5_Stock_Unrooted will return your phone to stock. You need to download and run this file from a Windows PC, it has it's own installer. Note, you will not be able to reset the knox counter (as of this writing, nothing will).
(i). Q: Is there a way to restart my phone without pulling the battery, to get into Recovery or Download mode if it locks up/bootloops?
See [How-to] Soft Boot/Reset the Galaxy S5
(j). Q: Why do the widgets on my home screen(s) disappear after I turn off my screen?
This seems to be caused by switching between different launchers. The data/cache gets corrupted. (NOTE: This will clear your launcher settings, so they will have to be set up again. To clear Touchwiz launcher:
Go to Settings -> Application Manager and find Touchwiz Home, tap to open it's settings.
. .
In the app settings, tap (1) Force Stop and (2) Clear Data. When you exit, if you have more than one launcher installed, you'll need to choose Touchwiz Home.
(k). Q: Where can I find other modems for the Sprint Galaxy S5?
NOTE: Knowledge of installing using Odin is required.
NOTE: Thank you to @andee39, @banccalif, @jrkruse, and @tdunham for the files and the feedback.
NOTE: This is not to upgrade your phone to Android 4.4.4, this is only so you can install the latest modems.
NOTE: If you use fingerprint security, the NKD (Lollipop) modem breaks it.
Files needed (download to PC:
Odin (Upgrade to Odin 3.10.0)
NK4 Firmware. Only needs to be odin'd once. You can then odin any modem to use.
Modems. They are listed oldest to newest. Alternately, you can download All Modems.zip to PC as a single file and extract the modem(s) you want to try.
Instructions:
1. Power down phone. Do not use a menu to go into Download Mode.
2. Go into Download Mode (Volume Down, Home and Power Button), then Volume UP to continue.
3. Plug phone into computer via USB.
4. Start Odin. (Ensure you have a blue ID:COM light in Odin.
5. If firmware file needs to be installed, place it in the AP/PDA (older version) slot. This is a one time only step.
6. Place modem file in CP slot. (If you are upgrading the firmware, step 5 & 6 can be combined.
7. Press Start. Phone will reboot when finished.
(l). Q: I'm only getting one or two bars for my signal, can I do anything? (PRL Update)
There's a couple of things you can try:
1. If your signal strength just started getting weak, it may just be the cell tower in your area, you could call Sprint to see if they are working in your area.
2. Update your PRL. Go to Settings -> System Update -> Update PRL.
. .
3. Write the Corporate PRL. Many of us have gotten better reception with this. Make sure to follow the instructions competely from ->HERE<-. If you want to return to the stock PRL at any time, just repeat Step 2.
. .
The following link is provided for informational purposes. Please do a nanoid backup before you try anything that is suggested there. Some information does not apply to the S5 and some info may be outdated.
(m). Q: What's the ETA on the next version of MOAR?
This question in any form is considered very rude and should not be asked EVER. The developers work hard to provide a great rom, but they also have a life, family etc. They are the only ones who know when the next version will/may be released, so asking anyone in the forums doesn't help. Please refer to paragraph 2 under guidelines ->HERE<-.
. Q: Is there an online user guide for the Sprint Galaxy S5?
Yes, it's located ->HERE<-. Has a wealth of information about our $600 phone.

Preventative Help
Do a nanoid backup. Set up a routine. If you're the type that likes to try out new things, then do a nanoid at least weekly. Do it monthly if you don't make changes. Personally, if I go into Recovery, I'll do a nanoid. You'll be thankful for taking the 15 minutes to do it when you're up a creek without a paddle!
Troubleshooting Tips
1. If doing a clean install and phone doesn't boot, it could be a bad download. Re-download and check MD5 checksum on PC and/or phone. It's also been reported that doing a dirty re-flash works.
2. Clear cache(s) in recovery. Sometimes that's all it takes.
3. Dirty flash MOAR. You won't lose any thing (except maybe Missing Link themeing)
4. If you're experiencing problems such as freezing, random reboots or connection issues, reboot into "Safe Mode". Similar to a PC, your phone will boot without loading any apps (other than default), no drivers or mods. If your problem is resolved, then you know the issue isn't with MOAR but something else installed on your phone.
To boot into "Safe Mode":
Turn the device off.
Press and hold the Power key.
When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5′ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
To boot normal, either restart your phone, or use the pulldown notification.

[Q] IndexService versus my battery
Recently installed MOAR v2.1 and my battery is getting destroyed by the IndexService... whatever that is. I'm guessing it's a Samsung phone search optimizer. Over a few hours of constant use the battery use for the screen is 8% and for IndexService is %40.
I often shy away from stock-ish roms so I'm not sure what to do about it. Greenify?

Greenify along with Wakelock Detector. Seems like after I used both a long time ago, it's a forgotten issue. If I don't use my phone for about 15 minutes or so, it pretty much goes into Deep Sleep. Also, check the Power Saving Mode in the settings.

I'm not sure what indexing service is exactly but maybe it has to do with external storage? Have you ever reseated the sd card and formatted it lately right from the phone storage menu? Backup your stuff to pc first of course.

My unlock effect is disabled in the lockscreen settings. I don't know why. I had been playing around with the lockscreen and had set it to AOSP style, but it never went back to the particle effect after that... (at least I believe that's when it happened). I tried playing with the settings more... turning widgets on/off, reseting to stock lockscreen (w/ reboot), removing lockscreen and also adding a PIN/pattern, etc. Nothing seems to reenable it.
I did search the thread and didn't find anything.
UPDATE: Nevermind. Apparently my custom wallpaper is not unlock effect worthy. Upon switching back to that color faceted stock image the option enabled.

It sounds like you're using the aosp gallery. Install the stock one if you want it to operate the normal way.

Thanks for moving the question over here Have you tried un-pairing and re-pairing your phone with your car? Are you back on stock kernel or KT? KT defaults to undervolting 5 mA by default, so upping it back up 5 mA may solve the rebooting issue. You might also try a "dirty" flash over your install.

Exynos S9+ gesture control quick guide (Requires root)

I wanted to write a quick guide on how to hide the navigation bar permanently, in the easiest way possible and then use gestures to replace the nav bar soft keys.
This solution has been tested on the Exynos S9+ and you need to be rooted in order for it to work.
Steps:
1. Have root
2. Install the gesture control app of your liking, before proceeding with the next step. Set it up and make sure it works after rebooting. I would recommend either all in one gestures (free) or edge gestures (paid). I actually prefer edge gestures. Play around with the settings to get the most intuitive gesture navigation for you, I have added screenshots of my settings for inspiration.
3. Navigate to the system folder with a root explorer and open build.prop with a text editor. Add the following line to the bottom of the text qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 and save. This tells your device that it has physical navigation keys, so it should disable permanently the soft keys. To revert this simply switch the '1' with a '0', or delete the line, save and reboot.
4. Reboot your device.
I'm not a developer, I just had to piece together this simple solution for a much more natural navigation experience.
I don't notice any slowdowns or battery drain with this solution.

I just tried the app "edge gestures" and it is well done, very customizable and works very well... apparently.
I installed the companion app "more gestures" to get a few more things to do. I wanted to swipe and hold from the right to turn off and lock the screen.
The shortcut works and it locks the screen as it should, but, for some reasons, I can't unlock my phone using fingerprint or face unlock, even though those settings are enabled. As soon as I touch the sensor I get prompted to use my pin, and if I hit the back key under the numpad, I go straight to the lock-screen, and as soon as I swipe up, I'm back with the pin and no use of the unlock sensors.
I had the same option (to swipe and hold to lock the phone) from Samsung's "one handed operation +", but I wanted to use one single app to have the 3 edges of the phone covered and this one seemed optimal for that, instead of using xda "navigation gestures" together with the Samsung's one.
As soon as I disabled this "edge gestures" app, and reinstated Samsung's and xda's one back, everything turned back to normal, face and finger unlock working again.
I wonder if I should have enabled other settings or permissions I'm unaware of, for these apps to work without conflicting with the unlock part.
Has that happened to anyone of you too??

how? network speed in status bar / immersive display (similar to Gravitybox)

Back then, on my Nexus 5, I used Gravitybox via Xposed.
The most liked features have been the display of the actual network speed (DL/UL rates in kb/s) and the immersive display (fullscreen, no black bars top and bottom even for apps not made for it).
I'd like to get this back on my Pixel 3, but how?
Root & Magisk possible.
Thank you for ideas!

If you're pixel is from Google, then you can root it. But there's only an unofficial Xposed that will work. I'm not sure if that supports gravitybox.

well, it is rooted with Magisk, but the Xposed you mentioned is beta unstable and does not yet support Gravitybox. Understable, with Gravitybox being a conglomerate of a whole lot of different mods.
I was wondering, if there are other possibilities to be explored. I am really wondering why there is no Magisk Module for the DL/UL speed in the status bar already - do other users not desire this or is it commonly fulfilled already, how?
The immersive display on the Pixel 3 is sort of a regress, - quite often i only see a contextually unused bar where the menu keys are.
Well, even chrome shows a white bar there, without using the area for website content display.
Did I miss some setting to toggle it?
@Tulsadiver 's mod in the themes section does it. It is also available on DU custom rom.

You can use Tasker to do this. Just a matter of creating a task for immersive mode in tasker and then run the task. Also, you can create a task to turn immersive mode off and run that if you want it off. Easiest way though is to create both tasks and then add a widget to both of them on you home screen. Then just touch one widget to turn immersive mode on and touch the other to turn it off. Another option is to create a profile that will start immersive mode when you start one of the apps in the profile, such as your browser. Then, when you quit using the app, it reverts back to immersive mode off. Whatever the case, it works great. If you want to try it, I can help you with it. They are really pretty simple tasks to set up. Are you familiar with Tasker?
so far the Edxposed for me works well on my pixel 3 with these modules:
App Locale 2
Google Mpas SDK Drift Fix for China
GravityBox[P] beta 5: network speed indicator and immersive mode work great
Lataclysm
XprivacyLua
Should be more workable modules

Funny thing - i purchased Tasker, but never used it. So no, I am not familiar with Tasker and would appreciate your help.

Open Tasker and touch the tasks tab at the top. Then, at the bottom right you'll see a plus symbol. Touch it and a small window for naming the task will open. Name it whatever you choose. In the next window, touch the plus at the bottom and then select code. Then select run shell. Then, where it says command, you simply type or copy and paste the code I give you. On that same page you'll see a line that says use root. Put a check mark in the box next to it and then use the back arrow at the top left to go back. This is the code you'll use in the command box.
This one is for turning immersive mode on.
Code:
settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
This one is for turning off immersive mode.
Code:
settings put global policy_control immersive.full=
Create two tasks in the manner I mentioned, one task for immersive on and another for turning it off.
When you back out of the window where you typed the command, it takes you to the task edit window. At the bottom left you'll see a play button you can use to test the task. Touch it and, it'll turn on or off, depending of course which task it is you're in.
You can use that button to turn immersive mode on or off or you can add a Tasker widget for each task on your home screen. Then it's just a matter of touching them to turn it on and off. Also, if you prefer, you can add buttons for them in the quick settings you see when you drag down the status bar. Just open the quick settings, touch the edit button and add the Tasker buttons there. There are three of them, add two and assign the tasks to them.
