Is there a way to get Immersive Mode on Jelly Bean?
With semi transparent status bar which appers when one swipes down on the top? like in kitkat
Hi, unfortunately, currently there isn't anything exactly like Kitkat's Immersive mode, and transparent status bars, while possible, the process of enabling them on your device is very technical and potentially dangerous for your device.
HOWEVER. I can tell you that there is a way to get something similar to Immersive Mode. I'll guide you through it.
First off, you need root. I can't explain this because the rooting process is different for each device, but I'm sure you can figure it out.
Now, you'll need to download Xposed Installer. Just search for that on Google and you should find it no problem. Download and install the apk. Open the app, and allow superuser access. Now, tap Framework, and tap on Install/Update. This will install the Xposed Framework, which is needed for this process. Reboot your device by tapping Soft Reboot, Reboot, or just turn your device off and then turn it back on.
Next, open Xposed and tap on Download. This will list all kinds of things called Modules, which do fancy things to your device. Look through and find Gravitybox [JB] and tap on it. Download it by scrolling down, and when asked to install, do so. Now, back out to the welcome screen, and tap on modules. Gravity box should be listed, but if it isn't just wait for a minute or two, and it should appear. Tap on the check box to the left of the icon, and reboot your device like you did before.
Provided everything has gone OK, you're in the home stretch. Open Gravitybox from the app drawer, and if asked for superuser permission, say yes. You'll see a list of a lot of things, but you want to tap on Display Tweaks. At the top of the list is a setting for Expanded Desktop Mode. Tap on it and select hide both, and you're done!
Now, whenever you want to hide the status bar and navigation bar (That's the top bar and bottom bar), just hold the power button to open your power options, and select the option to enable Expanded Desktop Mode! When you want to switch back, just repeat those steps!
Let me know if you need any more help!

Ok, as I have been guilty of using the Development thread for asking a user type question I thought I might kick this thread off as a "How to do simple tasks in Jellybean EOS#4"

Its more so that I can ask questions and get them answered here so that others can also learn the basic's as it is really packed full of lots of little goodies that we have had to use other apps to do..
As I get time I will try to add screen shoots of some of the basic operations so that it is easier and keeps the development thread clean for Tim and others to carry on the work to get this rom settled.
Honestly the EOS jellybean series of Roms are great for daily use and as I was on EOS#3 for a few months, I have no hesitation in suggesting "Take the leap".
All credits go to the developers and the hours they have spent pulling this fork together.
And in case you forget how to install here it is from the horses mouth..
How to install:
Going to EOS4.2.1 from a rom < 4.2:
Backup everything !
Go to recovery
Make a full wipe / factory reset
format /system
Flash the rom
Flash gapps
Wipe cache/dalvik
Reboot
Updating from EOS 4.2.1 #XX to #YY:
You can skip the full wipe step

The following is a cut and paste from Frederuco's thread over at Asus Transformer Forum - TF101
Would like to Thank him for his work and all credits for the time spent on this already..
Is Adobe Flash supported on this ROM?
Yes and no - Adobe has dropped flash support for Android. The latest versions were for 4.0 in August 2012.
HOWEVER - You can still sideload flash. First, go to Settings - Security - Unknown Sources. Tick the box. Next, go to the Adobe Archives and download the latest version for Android 4.0. After it downloads tap on it to install it.
Flash works well in the stock Browser, Firefox, Firefox Beta and Boat Browser. Dolphin has disabled flash support for JellyBean last time I checked.
My battery is draining fast
Check your WiFi sleep settings. Settings - WiFi - Tap the button in the top right, Advanced, WiFi on during sleep - Never. Keep in mind, this is forced. No need for AutoAirplane Mode, this ROM forces the WiFi off when the tablet is sleeping.
There is also a setting for how long after you put the tablet to sleep that WiFi stays on. EOS Control Center, go to the Systems settings. Change the SCREEN OFF WIFI IDLE DELAY.
How do I get rid of the circle touchpad and get a real pointer?
Open EOS Control Center. Top right, change from Interface to System. Tap on Device Settings. Touchpad Mode. Change from Gestures (CIRCLE) to Trackpad (Arrow)
My Volume is lower than it was on stock
Most custom ROMs for JellyBean have had some volume issues. There is an app for that! It is made by none other than TimDuru.
It is the K.A.T Toolbox. K.A.T - V1.2.4 [ICS][JB4.1-4.2.1] App | Audio enhancer | Misc fixes | Scanner Filters.
Read more about what it is and how to use it in the development
Grab the latest and install it. Once installed, open it. Grant root permissions. Tap the Audio Section. Tap the Cascade Digital + Analog Levels and Link Volumes to Volume Keys. This will give you about as much volume as you can get out of your tablet. Volume levels go from 0 to 63.
The dock is using a US layout and I do not have a US dock. How do I change it?
You probably already tried changing the AOSP keyboard in the Language and input with no luck. Well, it is not there. It is buried in the EOS Control Center.
Open EOS Control Center. Top right, change from Interface to System. Tap on Device Settings. Tap Dock Keyboard Layout. Choose the proper layout and then you will need to reboot for the settings to take effect.
I have the dock, is there a way I can hide the NavBar but keep the notification bar at the top?
Yes, open the EOS Control Center. Scroll down and tick the HIDE NOW under the Navigation Bar section. If you want it hidden on boot, you can also tick the box for it.
Even if you DON'T have the dock, you can install the app LMT and set up thumb controls to swipe in from the left or right to use.
Can I hide the system bars to get a true FULL SCREEN experience?
Yes, just hold the LOCK button for 3 seconds. You will see the POWER MENU. Tap the SYSTEMBARS MODE to toggle them off and on.
The Nav Bar takes up as much room as the old Statusbar, plus I lose the top notification bar. Anything I can do?
Yes, open the EOS Control Center and enable the Low Profile Mode. It makes the bottom bar shorter.
How to Turn off Google search bar.

please share the trick..

Move "jump to Apps button"
And I will go one more..
The little round button with dots that take you to the apps and widgets..
On Apex I can move this around the dock bar, it seems in the stock JB launcher its locked in the middle..
Any trick to move it like Apex launcher?
I would prefer to have it to the right hand corner.

Thanks Frederuco,
And thats a great thread you have got going over there @Asus Transformer Forum - TF101
Would like to add this one from you as well on that question..
How do I get rid of the darn APP DRAWER icon that is bottom dead center?
The stock launcher has a fixed icon that you cannot get rid of for the app drawer. You will need to check out a custom launcher like Apex, Nova, ADW or another one. I like the look of Apex myself with the App Drawer icon in the top right. Custom Launchers are the way to go IMO, so much more you can do with them compared to the stock ICS/JB launchers.
Do we really need that status bar on top?
Is there a way to get JB 4.2 with the 4.1 layout (no status bar on top, navigation/status bar on the bottom)? I've searched high a low on the interwebs and it looks like this is a no go... My biggest gripe is that the status and navigation bars are not controlled by the launcher, so not even an alternative launcher will do that trick.

There is no way to change to a Tablet UI with Android 4.2
It seems it is all Phablet UI with pull down menus.
The older style Tablet UI with the system bar at the bottom is gone.
Agreed, 4.2 is all Phablet.

Is it possible to be added in the rom so to select it in the system settings menu? I use version 150 with kernel 92 . I am sure that the greek language was included in ICS and i was using it with success. Can that be somehow imported in this rom? When i select greek layout from eos settings after reboot nothing is selected. Is that behavior normal?
edit : as i saw when i remove all languages from asussec keyboard it writes Greek but it can not change the language in English when i desire to do so. So it is missing the ability to have selected both Greek and English language because simple Greek tab is missing. Can that be added?

Best way of tuning the screen off without a power button is using GMD gesture control center, turning 5 fingers anti clock wise shuts the screen off.
Hi all,
I love my Nexus 5, but coming from the GS3, I'm not sure I like the loss of screen realestate due to the soft buttons. I've tried immersive mode with Cataclysm rom, however I am a speed freak, and the added effort with swiping up the bars combined with the ugly re-positioning of the screen makes me dislike that option.
I'm looking for a way to permanently hide the nav buttons, and after that is accomplished I'm looking for a good (preferably customization) app that will act as a replacement.
1) Hiding the Nav Buttons - I've tried editing my bool.prop to add the line "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" but it must be conflicting with my Rom (Cataclysm Nov 26) or my Kernel (Franco.14) because every time I reboot and unlock my screen I'm greeted with the lovely message "unfortunately the process com.android.systemui has stopped" and it forces me back to my silkscreen. I'd prefer not to use an app to solve the problem, as I'd much rather change system files through text editing or flashing than be required to download another app.
2) Simulating the buttons with gestures - I've tried a few apps so far, but I haven't been able to find one that solves my problem exactly the way I want. I may be forced to edit an app to get exactly what I want. The closest I've gotten so far is Swipe Home Button, however it still doesn't accomplish everything I want. What I'm looking for is the following:
Swipe up from bottom middle to go home (accomplished with Swipe Hope Button)
Swipe from bottom left to go back
Swipe from bottom right to launch recent apps
If anyone knows of any techniques to accomplish this I'd love to hear them!
Extra: I'd also like to hide the status bar, revealing it with some gesture, however that is farther down on my list as it is far less intrusive to my experience.
Use a custom ROM like Purity. They have this built in.

Thanks guys,
I use GMD on my tablet, however I wasn't sure I wanted to spend $5.00 to try it out. I've also realized (slightly embarrassing) that I can just use cataclysm to change the navbar height to 0%... so that solves problem 1.
EDIT: Turns out GMD is exactly what I need. Didn't realize it had this level of customization when I originally tried it. Thanks! However if anyone knows of a free solution that would be great too.
Cataclysm has a hide navbar button you can put in the quick toggle to disable the navbar completely. no need edit the build prop or download any additional software. Thiis is also better than setting the navbar size set to 0 as you can quickly toggle it on and off if needed.

yeah +1 for lmt ..make sure to get the v2.0rc6 for KitKat
for dropping the navbar I just put the .. qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 .. at the end of the build.prop on stock rom

I know there's a way to put the device always in "Immersive Mode", that way you can hide the Navigation Bar:
Code:
settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=*
But every time I swipe from the bottom to any place in the screen, the NavBar appears again (thats really frustrating >_<).
I use LMT Launched (pie), so... I don't need the NavBar to be there.
Is there a real way to truly disable the Navigation Bar???
On some roms, there's a way to do it from inside options (like in Pure Nexus rom for example), I'm currently using RenovateICE, but that option is not implemented yet.
Also, the old trick to disable the NavBar (qemu.hw.mainkeys=1) does not work on Android 7+.
Thank you for your time!!! =D
This is something I'd love to see a workaround for. I love the immersive mode feeling but I can't stand that you can't disable the nav bar completely. It hinders your ability to use swipe gestures whenever it comes back on screen and really it just defeats the purpose so I stopped using it for now.
I'll wait for a way to disable the nav bar completely on the stock ROM before I go back to "immersive mode" (if anything of the like ever comes along that is).

Hi,
I was facing the same thing, and decided to take the plunge and root my phone, just for this since I have an exynos version.
From then you can edit the prop build file and remove the navbar permanently.
I use Swipe Gesture (app) to navigate around the phone with every apps full screen, it is a game changer. You can even customise actions (long press launching split screen, ect...)

qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 ????
Lilolilo27, if you could elaborate on which parameter(s) you had to change in the build prop I would be forever thankful! I didn't think there would be an easy fix for this so soon!
Hi,
Yes just add the qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 line to the end of the build prop file with a root explorer and reboot.
Just for precaution, make a backup of the prop file before hand AND set up Swipe Gesture or any other navigation app BEFORE making the change (or your keys will be gone and you wont be able to navigate around your phone)
Thanks lilolilo27. I'll have to give this a go when I have a few minutes and see how I come up. Thanks for the heads up btw.

Added it to my build.prop on Oreo b2, and had the same issue. Have you tried the layers solution? I would, but I haven't purchased the Samsung extension and don't really want to until I know it works (my hunch is that it only works on Nougat)
Hey all, since we don't have root or custom ROM's yet, what are some of the must have apps to add additional functionality you find missing from your favourite roms? Things like additional tiles for the notification tray, etc. I'm looking for whatever you can't live without!
@mikeandjaimie
Immersive mode is cool, especially for video/games:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/razer-phone/how-to/tip-immersive-mode-root-required-t3714812
An Ad blocker is #1 on my list, whether rooted or not.
For unrooted,I go with Block-This:
https://block-this.com/
Real easy to use:
1) Choose whether to have auto-start on boot
2) Whitelist on a per-app basis

You don't need an application for this. You can simple just unlock system UI Tuner
Bring down notifications. Long press the settings icon. You will now have access to system UI tuner
Thanks .now I done it . Every day you learn something new

Holding on the settings icon does nothing for me. As soon as I let go it just loads the normal settings menu.

Are you sure you're bringing down the notification center from the status bar?
Bring that down and hold onto the top right settings icon. You have to hold down for 5 seconds

Yes, that's what I do. The phone vibrates but nothing happens.
I'm on UK 3 branded, so maybe it's been disabled in some way.

Didn't open anything but "settings" for me but then when I scroll down the menu ,it is above "about phone" and below "developer options"
Also I noticed my settings icon also has a wrench on it. I held it again and turned it off just to test, then I was able to turn it back on and even got a toast pop-up saying congrats it's enabled...

Nope. It works for me im using the three branded. When it vibrated there should be a toast notification saying its active. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the settings and there should be an option called system ui
Back then, on my Nexus 5, I used Gravitybox via Xposed.
The most liked features have been the display of the actual network speed (DL/UL rates in kb/s) and the immersive display (fullscreen, no black bars top and bottom even for apps not made for it).
I'd like to get this back on my Pixel 3, but how?
Root & Magisk possible.
Thank you for ideas!

If you're pixel is from Google, then you can root it. But there's only an unofficial Xposed that will work. I'm not sure if that supports gravitybox.

well, it is rooted with Magisk, but the Xposed you mentioned is beta unstable and does not yet support Gravitybox. Understable, with Gravitybox being a conglomerate of a whole lot of different mods.
I was wondering, if there are other possibilities to be explored. I am really wondering why there is no Magisk Module for the DL/UL speed in the status bar already - do other users not desire this or is it commonly fulfilled already, how?
The immersive display on the Pixel 3 is sort of a regress, - quite often i only see a contextually unused bar where the menu keys are.
Well, even chrome shows a white bar there, without using the area for website content display.
Did I miss some setting to toggle it?
@Tulsadiver 's mod in the themes section does it. It is also available on DU custom rom.

You can use Tasker to do this. Just a matter of creating a task for immersive mode in tasker and then run the task. Also, you can create a task to turn immersive mode off and run that if you want it off. Easiest way though is to create both tasks and then add a widget to both of them on you home screen. Then just touch one widget to turn immersive mode on and touch the other to turn it off. Another option is to create a profile that will start immersive mode when you start one of the apps in the profile, such as your browser. Then, when you quit using the app, it reverts back to immersive mode off. Whatever the case, it works great. If you want to try it, I can help you with it. They are really pretty simple tasks to set up. Are you familiar with Tasker?
so far the Edxposed for me works well on my pixel 3 with these modules:
App Locale 2
Google Mpas SDK Drift Fix for China
GravityBox[P] beta 5: network speed indicator and immersive mode work great
Lataclysm
XprivacyLua
Should be more workable modules

Open Tasker and touch the tasks tab at the top. Then, at the bottom right you'll see a plus symbol. Touch it and a small window for naming the task will open. Name it whatever you choose. In the next window, touch the plus at the bottom and then select code. Then select run shell. Then, where it says command, you simply type or copy and paste the code I give you. On that same page you'll see a line that says use root. Put a check mark in the box next to it and then use the back arrow at the top left to go back. This is the code you'll use in the command box.
This one is for turning immersive mode on.
Code:
settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
This one is for turning off immersive mode.
Code:
settings put global policy_control immersive.full=
Create two tasks in the manner I mentioned, one task for immersive on and another for turning it off.
When you back out of the window where you typed the command, it takes you to the task edit window. At the bottom left you'll see a play button you can use to test the task. Touch it and, it'll turn on or off, depending of course which task it is you're in.
You can use that button to turn immersive mode on or off or you can add a Tasker widget for each task on your home screen. Then it's just a matter of touching them to turn it on and off. Also, if you prefer, you can add buttons for them in the quick settings you see when you drag down the status bar. Just open the quick settings, touch the edit button and add the Tasker buttons there. There are three of them, add two and assign the tasks to them.
