Exploit in XDA Android app. - General Topics

Hi.
There seems to be a problem with the XDA app. Just before Christmas I was using the app and I was automatically taken to a web page and it started to download a betting app without my approval. Today I had another issue where it automatically took me tp a webpage and opened up lots of android system pages, there were so many I could not swipe them all away so I had to reset my device.
I am using a Nexus 10 with stock Lillipop unrooted.
I have a hunch its the ads but not 100%. Is anyone else experiencing problems?

Same here, anytime I open XDA, it opens up LYFT or UBER in the Play Store. Guess XDA wants to flood us with advertising. Welcome to the new world of advertisement.
Nexus 6 (lollipop)

Thanks Mike. At least it's not only me. Maybe it's time to root lollipop and install adaway.

[Q] Bought XDA premium app, but crashing

I am running modded vegan 5.1+5.1.1+kernel replacement. I bought xda premium app, but unfortunately whenever I try to view a thread or search, it errors and force closes.
Any hell would be great. This must be an issue with specific version / combination of ROM I am using ?
Thanks!
I've tried the free XDA app, several times the last couple of months and it always FCed. I'm assuming that the paid one us based in the same code. If you search Xda, there are a number of threads, but no fixes.
It always seemed ironic to me ...

P.s. I think some people use Tapatalk, but that's also a paid app.
I was googling, and found an older version (0.9?) that doesn't blow up, but it doesn't seem to have a way to set favorite forums:

Both the free and the premium versions fc for me, but I don't have any problems with tapatalk.
Swyped from my St0n3d VEGAn 1.0 Beta 5.1.1 G-Tab
the xda app has always been a pos with the gtab
Sad but true. I knew it fc'd but I bought it to support xda. Bonus is that it works on my phone
Plus we have a 10 in screen and the app doest come close to full net view

I do not know if there was a recent update or not but I looked in the market and tried to install the recently unsucessful XDA premium and it installed and is working great!
I found if I don't sign in, it doesn't crash.

Do anyone have problem with XDA Premium on stock ICS 4.0.3?

This XDA Premium apps is getting into my nerve. It keeps on quiting the apps every time i press BACK soft-button while inside thread. I email the dev team twice n no response at all. Feels like donate rather than bought premium apps. I understand that ICS may cause apps incompatibility but this whole poor support is beyond my limit. Is it only me that facing this problem?
Note: i try to install the free version and getting the same behaviour.

They released yesterday a compatible version.
May i know what is the latest version? I didn't get any apps update.

[Q] tapatalk/xda premium app issues

Is there a thread for these two apps? Ever since they released the new UI for these 2 apps I've had nothing but force close issues on startup. It never fails. It will open and look fine but as soon as I open a thread or start to scroll down it force closes. But the strange part is I can reopen the app immediately and it works fine. It does not matter which device I use. For awhile I thought it was because I was rooted but now I have an HTC one still haven't rooted or modified it in any way and still having the exact same issue. I have been reporting this crash since the day the update came out. I'm losing more and more respect with tapatalk with each update.
If this will not be fixed any time soon what are your opinions on a good alternative app?

Chrome shows Wiki app is installed

Hi,
Since some update ago, not sure which one, my chrome browser shows that I have Wikipedia app installed when I don't actually have it. I don't know where to even begin to troubleshoot this issue other than add and remove the wiki app.
Attached are some snapshots of the issue.
Your help is really appreciated it, thank you.

Exact same problem on my Nexus 4. I even did a factory reset and the association came back!
Anyone out there with new information?

Before updating to the newest chrome, clearing data in privacy fixed it; but that's not the case anymore. I DID find out that it seems to be linked to my google account. Logged out of chrome, the association went away. Logged back in, repeat the same search, and it's back.

Google Search has Stopped.

Hello all. Man, it's been a while. Well, on to business.
I just downloaded the most recent update about... A month ago or so I think?
The past 2 weeks, however, my Google search has stopped working. If I access the app or click the search bar on my home screen, it pops up for a second, then crashes and gives me the option to report. Also crashes when I try to use voice in Chrome.
So far I have:
1. Cleared cache, data, etc.
2. Uninstalled updates. It didn't work before re-updating it, and I have now done this 4 times.
3. Reinstalled updates to no success.
4. Attempted to backup my phone with the stock backup, only to have it fail, thus blocking a factory reset (don't want to lose my data). This is ALSO an issue I am having, so advice here would also be appreciated, though not necessary. I think my broken GoogleSearch messed it up anyway.
Has anyone found a solution to this? Is anyone else having this issue? Or has my famously bad luck rendered me the only one again?
I am running a bone stock D800, unrooted. Please no hate for my lack of root; every time I root I seem to break something (bad luck, not inexperience!), and I tried to keep from it this time.
If you have just a patch or workaround that's perfect. My goal is to keep my G2 functioning until April 2015, then I can get a new phone. Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Bump. It's getting worse. It used to only do it when I opened the app. Now it does it at random about every twenty minutes.

Bump.
Voice recognition is completely gone everywhere now.

Bump. Finally factory reset since apparently nobody across several different forums knows what's causing this. Guess what? Still broken!
Could really use any help at all. This is driving me insane.
Never mind! Apparently the update decided to go ahead and brick my phone today. Won't even boot to the LG logo. Had to buy a G3. Fantastic.
Would appreciate it if you closed this thread, mods.
