What is the best handset? - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I'm wanting to purchase a new phone. I'm debating on HTC One or the Nexus 5?

Meaning of "the best" varies from person to person. I personally suggest nexus 5. It's fast and stock. But it's not powerful by battery and camera.

I own an HTC One (M7) and my gf a N5. Both are good phones but would definitively go for the One.
Screen and battery are better on the One than the N5.
Sound is better on the One than the N5
N5 camera is better than the One.
Nexus devices are updated faster than HTC. Anyway lollipop is probably the last major update for the One (M7)
You also have an IR emitter on the One which is a must if you are consuming a lot of TV, Throw away all your remotes and use your One

Thank you for your comments, I'm still in a stuck position as I'm fussy with stuff like this haha

Moving from Nexus S to....GN or HTC One x?

Hey guys!
I now this question isnt about the NS, but sence you guys apparently have the same taste in phones as me, I found it best to ask for you guys opinion.
I'm looking for a new phone, and was ofcourse concidering the Galaxy Nexus. But then the HTC One X was announced. The thing is that the Galaxy Nexus is still more expensive than the HTC One X here in Norway, and I do belive that the HTC One X packs more "horsepower" than the Galaxy Nexus anyway.
I was also thinking bout the Samsung Galaxy III, but sence Samsung support on updates are less than ****, i quickly discarded the idea.
Any thoughts ?
Cheers!
I would wait until you can walk into a store and play with both of them. Don't let the supposed faster updates of the Nexus line sway you. After about a year those promises are left empty anyway. There are multiple phones that will get ICS before the Nexus S does so thinking about Jelly Bean...you will just as likely get it on another manufacturers device before you will on the Galaxy Nexus.
The nice thing about an HTC phone is you will most likely have the option of running Sense ROMS or AOSP roms if there is enough development which there most likely will be now that bootloaders are easily unlocked. I had this choice when I had my Evo Shift and it was nice depending on my mood.
I am in the same boat between the Galaxy Nexus and the HTC One X. It really depends on Sprint's schedule for me at this point and whether they will carry the HTC One X.
Ive played around with the GN, as a friend of mine just bought it. Its a nice phone, with a much better build quality than the NS. Very fast and responsive, but nothing mindbogeling, when compared to the NS. I imagine that the HTC One X is a better phone i every aspect when it comes to specs, over the GN?

One X or S3 or stick with my XE

Im on my 1st Android a Sensation XE coming from iPhones and have to say loving it.
I'm now thinking even though only had my XE for 6 months, on the One X. Worried a little though on the battery life and non replaceable, I am a heavy user.
Also now the S3 is announced and is nigh on the same physical size and wondering on people who have a One X what would they do if now had choice?
Cheers

I love my One X. The S3 is going to be an awesome phone too. If you like HTC (and it looks like you do) you can't go wrong with grabbing a One X. Although, if I knew what I know now about multiple nexus devices, I might have waited to grab one of those. Really, if you're going for a high end android phone from 2012 I don't know that you really can go wrong.

search research read and make your own mind up. that is how you going to know if the phone is for you. you might think i am joking but i am being serious..and not being horrible it is true..search and you will find loads of threads asking the same question as you what phone is the best. google is your friend..good luck and hope you all the best whatever you decide....but if you like Nexus phones then wait till october when the new one gets released
All depends on whether you like sense or touchwiz. Easiest way to find out is to go to retail shop and try before you buy.

the very best way is to buy both and sell the one that you dnt like if you have the money, of course
and the best way is to use google and research like the guy above says, because you ask this question in the OneX threads and everybody who have a OneX loves it ... and i love it too ... some issues are still there to be honest, but with the next OTA it will all be perfect.
I personally feel that HTC one X has a more beautiful design than S3. S3 is not ugly but to me is definitely not a beauty. However, there are some crucial things that S3 has but HTC one X doesn't have which is removable battery and a SD card slot.
Hence my advice to you is know what your preferences is whether is a hardware design or having a removable battery. Then make your decision
Batterywise, The One X, with older 1.28 firmware is better than my old Sensation was even when using the XE battery.
Thanks for replies.
I can't say I prefer HTC sense over touchwiz as never used touchwiz, I've tried it for 2mins in a shop once.
I think I prefer the look of the One X, but the removable battery tempting, do you think the One X will get any of the software features of S3? eg the smart screen stay on thing etc?
The One X I would probably buy if its a bit cheaper which it is at mo,.probably about £350, whereas S3 is going to be £500 or £34/month.....
If you must upgrade, I'd go for the SGS3. But if you can wait, I would. The Sensation XE can pretty much do anything the other two can, albeit a little slower. But who cares?

did i make a bad decision?

On Tuesday right before the galaxy nexus ban I ordered one and it will be here tomorrow. I am more than likely going to sell my one x. Although this phone has been very good to me I really love the idea of vanilla android. The only thing I will really miss is the camera app. I'm not a big gamer and I mostly use phone for music and cycling (GPS). This is my first android phone coming from an iPhone and I'm never going back. Do you see any reasons why I would regret this decision?

It's all opinion really, font sell your hox until your happy with another phone. Try out both, but the hox is generally considered better than gnex.

You'll miss the screen on the HOX, possibly big time. You'll also miss maybe a little speed, and if you're in an LTE area you'll miss that. Other than that the Nexus is a great device - and there are many pros vs. the HOX. But you didn't ask about those
I'm the crazy guy that likes sense. I've always flashed phones to AOSP or CM but I just like some of the sense apps too much. The email app and dropbox integration being 2 of the "biggies".
Good luck, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
That's another thing I'm wondering about. Would it.be as easy as taking the sim out of the one x and throwing it in the nexus? I already made one of those sim adapters.
i had the gnex, and well battery on a custom rom with custom kernel for best support i barely made it over 2 hours of on screen time, and the camera in my opinion is horrible...i play golf outside quite a bit and with full brighness it was still hard to see the screen.

Yep. The One X at 50% brightness (275 nits) is brighter than the GN at max (247 nits). There's tons of discussion about the GN's display in their forum. While you're over there, check out the discussions about the camera too. At this stage in its life its only stand out feature is being a pure Google device. It's still a fantastic deal at $349 outright though.

It has a really bad camera though,I returned GNex with in 3 days of purchase... I am waiting for their next flag ship device, but have a feeling it won't be that great either since its clear now that Google designs device which are quite affordable...

I am not sure if the screen on the HOX is that much better. I am coming from GNex, and I have to say HOX's screen is gorgeous, but I don't think it's a quantum leap from that of the GNex.
The biggest advantage is the S4 (this thing is a beast!) and the LTE speed. The only problem I have with the phone is Sense. I have the CleanROM DE just to get some of the AOSP experience back, and I'll be jumping to CM or AOKP as soon as either one is usable as a daily driver.

they both have their merits and shorcomings. as others have stated it's a matter of personal choice. i have both and will keep both for the foreseeable future. i wanted to sell my GNex after i got the HOX, but couldn't do it. i use the HOX as a daily work phone and the GNex (w/Jelly Bean) when not working.
If the Google nexus had. Better screen an HTC like camera I'd be all over it (can live without lte).
Would love having stock android and tons of developers

yeah its tough! im trying to convert my wife over to android so i had to convince her to test drive the phone after my nexus comes in. i really dont want to get rid of it!
I hate the burn in on my nexus screen. Whites are piss colored

It's a Samsung thing. Amoled screens are just utter garbage. White looks like Baby blue/ washed out grey.

This is how I see it: With the One X, you have the option of running either Sense or AOSP. With a Nexus device, you can only run AOSP.

HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy Nexus

What do you guys think? Which phone is better? The HTC has much better hardware but the Nexus will be supported for longer. I will be getting the phone on contract and the prices are nearly the same. So, which one would you suggest without considering the price? Also, which phone apart from the Samsung S3 is the best at the moment?
Python.
They both don't have sd-card slots. But almost everything except software on the HTC is better.
I would personally go for the Nexus just because of the software and ROM development.
Best phone hmm maybe the One X as well?

The card slot is annoying but I can live with it.
You say the One X is the 'best phone' and is better in all ways apart from software, but you would still go with the Nexus? Couldn't the ROM development and software catch up? Also, for how long will the HTC be updated in your opinion? I know the Nexus will be updated for at least one more year but what about the HTC?

The One X will get Jellybean, but that might be it. I personally feel like the One X is the best phone on the market...better than the SGSIII. I still would get a Nexus. Android is made and optimized for the Nexus, so you are going to get great performance on the slightly worse hardware. Paired with a development community that is second to none..I think that is the best choice.

[Q] Looking into buying the Nexus 5 next month...

Hey guys,
I'm looking into buying the Nexus 5 as I feel like I want a much faster and more responsive Android experience and I also want to get a phone that is very well supported by the developers of XDA...
I have had both of the following handsets previously:
-HTC Wildfire(Buzz)
-HTC One V(PrimoU)
My biggest complaints about my previous handsets are that the Android experience is very slow, sloppy and HTC Sense'd meaning that to get an acceptable level of performance out of them they had to be rooted and flashed with 'close to Google' ROMs and because of the lack of developers that were interested in these devices they were relatively unstable even with their best ROMs.
My real question is pointed at users who currently have a Nexus 5 and had a relatively comparable phone to the HTC Wildfire or HTC One V, am I making the right move (based on what I've said) to buy the Nexus 5 and do you think that it's worth its money or are there better phones available in your opinion?
Absolutely get the N5.
I don't think there is a better option for a phone right now than the n5.

Well my mom had the One V. And that phone sucks if you compare it with the N5.
The Nexus5 is soooo much faster and better. And for this price you cant get a better phone at the moment.
It's almost perfect
I have had;
HTC hero
Nexus one (HTC)
HTC one X
Nexus 4
Getting my nexus 5 tomorrow.
The most comparable ones for me are going to be the htc one x to the nexus 4
The one x was a better phone than the one v that you have but still the jump to the nexus 4 was a massive upgrade in terms of performance and stability from the one x.
So you are going from a slower phone than I had to a faster phone than I have and I was happy with my upgrade so you should be very pleased with your new phone.

I haven't had your exact previous phone, but I had a Droid 1 and GSII and I promise you, you'll love the N5, it's just an amazing piece of machinery, especially for the price.
If you're a tweaker/modder or someone who enjoys exploiting the android OS for all of it's open source worth then the N5 is by far the best device you could ask for as of right now in my honest opinion. If not, there are other devices with better hardware on a more powerful platform. For me.....I had to get the Nexus.

Absolutely get the N5. There's a world of difference between old non-Nexus phones like the HTC Wildfire and the Nexus 5, not to mention the Nexus devices are made to be modded. There's literally no device easier to mod than a Nexus, and if you don't want to mod, the Nexus's stock firmware is still way better than HTC Sense or Samsung TouchWiz.
I have had the GSII, Galaxy Nexus, GSII before. Ok, the last step from the GSIII was not that, but I am still very happy with the purchase.
