Yes, of course, at least not to get the HTC One S. If we were talking about the HTC One X or the S3, we can talk about it, but not for the One S no way. However, why were you even considering to switch from Gnex to One S?

Actually, in some ways, the One S is far superior to the Galaxy Nexus. The camera is much, much better. The processor in the One S is much faster. It is built better and feels more solid. On the minus side, the screen is qHD, not HD. However, I think the quality of the screen is a little better to be honest. The Galaxy Nexus has a grainy screen and off white whites, especially in low light with the screen dimmed. The One S seems to not have this problem, or has it to a much lesser degree. If you don't like Sense on the One S, you can use another launcher like Nova Launcher or root and go with an AOSP rom later. I had a Galaxy Nexus and don't really miss it to be honest.

I'm sure the only reason he'd regret it is cause he'd end up selling the nex paying more for an S and not really feel any change but not cause it's a ****tier phone or anything but yea it's not much of an upgrade since the GNEX is a straight phone too but you definatly wouldn't be downgrading or anything

I agree with what you are saying, but as far as processor, I don't really see the big deal as the Nexus ROM'd and tweaked shows no performance issues at all. I just feel like if I got a One S I would be waiting for the first AOSP ROM out to rip sense off of it...Also, were you a fan of the 4.65 inch screen? If so, was it hard going to the 4.3? Still might do the trade, if I don't like the One S it will be easy to trade it for another Nexus.

Not the case..straight trade.
Nexus devices have advantages that have nothing to do with hardware. To switch to a different device at a cost, there has to be more than slightly better hardware. I can think of several reasons in general, but not certainly not enough reasons for the One S.

I like the screen size on the Nexus for viewing videos. Otherwise, when you are in an app that shows the navigation buttons on screen, the usable area of the screen for that app on the GN is not much bigger at all than a 4.3" screen. While watching videos, though, yes, the GN has a noticeably larger screen.
Definitely play with the 1s a lot and compare what is important to you--both are great
I wanted the GN, but in trying both I found the page rendering and pinch to zoom not as good on the GN--agreed it was only on demo in Verizon on LTE, but 1s was as fast if not faster in loading pages
I like the internal card--anywhere from 10 to 18bm read/write speeds as opposed to mostly sub 10 or less on my class 10 and 6 sdcards
1s does have great build feel, like my now gone N1
Just found out that the galaxy s3 for the US will have the same CPU as
The one x. It will also come with 2gb of ram, which is a real plus. What would you guys do in this situation. I'm still kind of worried about that pentile screen, have to see it in person but I dont have much time left.
The 3 main criteria for me are screen quality, camera quality and feel of the device. I really dislike the screens on Samsung devices. All things considered, I'd be miserable looking at that display as a trade for questionable improvements in speed. A larger SD card, while a great option, isn't something I really need.
Build quality is also a big deal. I like the feel of the one x more than any other Android device I've handled. The S2 variants left me feeling like I had a bargain phone in hand.
I've heard great things about the camera on the S3, but while I'm still having some trouble in generating the type of shots I'd like with the HOX it's an excellent outdoor shooter.
THE END

I'd hate to say it, but I'm kind of in the same boat. I was dead set on this phone once Samsung made their announcement (was a toss up between the GNex, the GSIII or the HOX). I figured the awesome dev folks around here would get the phone unlocked so we could eventually run some stock form of ICS (which was a successful bet!). But the issues the phone has (WiFi BS, the lagging in the games, the frustrations with multitasking-esque stuff) are annoying. I was really hoping AT&T would be pushing out their fix soon to address at least the WiFi, but I was hoping for too much I guess. After this phone, I don't think I'll every be buying another subsidized phone again. I'd rather just roll with the Nexus line so I can freely do what I want with the phone.

A lot of the issues with the one x have been fixed with the latest ruu, and some nice tweaks have been made with the few rims we have now. Just wait until we get the kernel source and watch our battery and performance skyrocket. Imo, stick with one x and wait for the goodies to come.

Thanks for the replies but I think I'm gonna be returning it and see what the Samsung can do. I can always come back to the hox if it fails to impress.

I have a question...are these goodies you are talking about only going to come to those who are rooted? Is there expected to be an official release that fixes some of the issues I am having? My Wifi radio stinks and the cell radio is less than optimum. However, because I love the screen so much, I'm sticking with my HOX for right now.
I got mine at Wal-Mart for $158, and they told me I had 15 days. I wonder if that is just the window to return it and void the contract extension, or if I'm out of my window entirely? Although there is a lot I love about my HOX, That 2GB of RAM really has me squirming, together with the lockdownedness of the HTC.

I have (had? Cuz its broken) a skyrocket and the dev work was really slow at first. Once we got the ICS leak, things got much better.
Also, once more of these get into people hands, it'll take off. I'm hoping to get one tomorrow finally! Using an N1 is starting to get frustrating!

The leaked 1.85 RUU has an updated radio, which may help your WiFi and cell reception issues. Its impossible to say for sure, but I'd be willing to bet its only a matter of time before this version (or something even newer) is made available as an official OTA.
After owning the Atrix, which had double the RAM and CPU of the original Galaxy S... I'd rather have a better screen.. Sure the One X has software issues like multitask, but we have root and the unlocked bootloader.. CM9 and other great roms will follow (I hope)... I think I'll be sticking w/ the One X. But if u really need the SD card slot then I guess your choice is already made.
Read the papers from Walmart at&t requires a 30 day window Verizon, and others are 15 from Walmart.

I'm keeping mine but I'm known to play craigs list like a day trader. I'm willing to bet there will be people who want to trade their SGS III for the HOX. I'll consider doing this if development on the HOX stagnates. I don't think it will though after all we don't have Source Code yet.
This phone os perfect for me. It fits my hand, it's light but not too light and the battery life is amazing.
Just returned it....now it's just a waiting game. Kinda miss the phone already especially going back to the iphone 4's tiny little screen .The specs on the new iphone should be coming out soon too.
I'm returning mines, the GS3 was just announced. Pre orders start June 6. The one x is a great phone but I prefer the GS3. Bigger screen, removable battery plus a sd card slot.

The Pentile display killed the SGS3 for me. Don't say "you can't see it" because once you see it, you can't unsee it. It's especially noticeable if you're like me and have been using iPhone 4 and now One X for 2+ years.

agreed on the display. with some of the wifi problems i've been having the last couple of weeks, frankly, i want to return it, but i just can't stand the idea of getting an SGS3 with that damn pentile screen and the overall pukey, pseudo-nature 'inspired' (read: playing the marketable environmental/sustainable/green card) theme. i've go ttill tomorrow to convince myself that the risk of my wifi never working properly isn't enough to make me return this thing...
Return the phone, then drive to different ATT store and get a new one for 30 more days

In a nutshell. The sgs 3 is the same processor as the one x. Performance will be about the same with multi tasking being better on the sgs 3. You give up an sd card slot and a removable battery in favor of a better screen and more of a solid feel.

I hope you're right man. I think it's the superior phone. If we could only get something like CM9 working completely that would fix the multitasking, then i'd have no complaints.
I had the one x , sold it and bought an s3 (att/rogers dual core version)
Honestly and truly the one x is a better device in some ways. The battery life is much better on the one x due to the lcd screen using less power despite the two having the same processor. The screen is better too, the one x screen is a lot better and clearer even at lower brightness. Not to mention it just overall looks better (brighter and truer whites, colours also actually look natural unlike amoled). And you cant even deny the fact that the one x has a much much better build quality its a better and more solid feeling device.
Though the siii has an edge over the one x in some areas like sense vs touchwiz, i find that touchwiz almost never lags vs the one x still had hiccups in some areas slight homescreen lag etc etc which is almost non existant on the siii. Plus for me the major issue that drove me away from my one x is the multi tasking issue, basically the one x has the most aggressive app switcher that kills an app almost instantly after you exit it, the phone is near useless at multi tasking. iE if i was listening to music and went to change the song while browsing, when i came back to the browser the phone would have to "reload" the app.
With that said, the two phones are practically neck to neck, just depends what you prefer as strongpoints and what you can live with as weak points. I would sell my siii in a heartbeat if the stupid multi tasking issue was fixed on the one x.
just my " two cents."

Hmm i got lucky and got a good price for my one x, bought it for 500, sold it for 480 and bought the galaxy s iii for 500.
I prefer the screen and build quality of the One X but love that Samsung released source code so soon (most likely just to steal sells and pull users like myself)
Everything else has been said. They both have advantages and disadvantages. It's pick your poison.
Me, I chose to go where the source was. No sense waiting 90 to 142 (if there's an update) days and using workarounds to unlock the bootloader if someone else openly offers both.
I know, I'm a broken record since I got this phone. I'll try to post a little less lol. Just frustrated with HTC

The main reason i dont like my GS3 is because the build quality of it feels a bit cheap, like the back battery cover already has a crack in the top right corner. I also get a few kinks like my SD card randomly unmounts, i get lags here and there, a few FC's, and launcher restarts. Other than that the phone is solid...Just a couple things i would expect it to tackle but samsung kinda over looked.
On the other hand ive used HTC devices before and there build quality even back when i was using the G1 was great, they make it feel solid along with adding the perfect amount of weight to the phone. Ive never had a problem with an HTC phone, only with there batterys, thats why i was kinda leery on the One X not having a removable back so if the battery does screw up like it has in my G1, HD2 and MT4G i can just easily put a new one in. But overall i dont mind it having less ram and no SD port because i pay for my dropbox monthly to have extra space.

Its getting redundant with that same reply im getting. I much rather take to a forum where the main phone is the HOX where people that will actaully reply used the One X and maybe both One X and SGS3 and can give me solid reasoning why. I trust some ones word that has used the device longer then just some one who is just doing a review because they have too...

Thanks for your questions. After all it is the General HTC one X forum!
Rather than waste a post with a school girl reply, I will help answer your question.
I have had both and took back the SGIII. I like the One X better, mainly because the SGIII screen does not work as well outdoors and the whites are more greyish than the One X.
Hope that helps?
What's not "wowing you" about the SGS 3? This info might get you a better answer.
We seem to be losing more and more people everyday to the sgs3. Source better come soon or I think this phone will be doomed development wise.

I've been trying to trade my HOX for a GS3 for a few days now but I'm getting ahead of myself so let me start from the beginning. I started out with my GNex and heard about the HOX and how amazing it was so like any other android enthusiast I immediately set my sights on acquiring one. However it wasn't as simple as that lol I tried for months to acquire one, refusing to pay cash, to no avail. With a somewhat mild sadness I gave up in defeat and made my piece with my GNex. Little did I know a ray of "hope" was gonna shine on me by way of the GS3 lol after leaks, rumors and shady speculation I immediately fell in love with it but the HOX still had a place in my heart I just could not get the simple elegance of that contour unibody silhouette out of my mind. So pushing all those mixed emotions and thoughts aside I decided to pursue the GS3. After finally acquiring one, which was a feat in and of itself, I spent a week with it and I must admit I treated it like a dirty mistress lol my GNex got shelved almost immediately and I used it every minute of that week. As the week was drawing to a close I sat down and thought about what exactly made me love the GS3 so much. Was it the design? Kinda. Was it the name? Not so much. Or was it the software? I came to the decision that this was the sorce of my affection. After coming to this realization I returned the GS3 and took my GNex of the shelf and fell for it all over again with the buttery sweet allure of Jellybean lol After using it as my daily once again I came to a settled state of mind and convinced myself that I was content in my decision to stay with the GNex. That was until I decided to peruse the marketplace on a whim. Then to what seemed to be that of a dream inside of a looking glass I saw that someone was willing to trade their HOX for a GNex. The first thought in my mind was &#&%@&&#&@* yeah!!! Lol I then preceded into making a trade and within 24 hours I had finally received my long awaited love. All those repressed thoughts and emotions came flooding back like a tsunami. And now as I type from my HOX I can now say that I am indeed content with this beautifully crafted piece of artwork....that is until the next thing comes out lol

Amazing story bro hahaha... although this phone had a small introduction, from the second I seen it I was also in love. Had to have it. Once I got it, the nostalgia was unreal. I can't stay off of it, can't stop customizing it. I've played around with a JB nexus, I play around with my buddies lte GS3.... I just don't think they compare to my OneX. We do alot of modding and different roms.. my benchmarks absolutely tower over theirs, do side by side comparisons and mine is just way more snappy flipping through screens, in and out of apps, and going in and out of app drawer... not to mention the screen is out of this world. My wife accidently dropped it (never left a mark).... almost divorced her lol. So I came to my senses, rubbed her back and told her it was OK... I'm talking about my OneX of course hahaha.

I as well really was blown away when I first saw the phone make its debut in Barcelona at the convention. Being on sprint i was very disappointed that sprint had decided to keep the evo line going and not go with the at lease the look of the one-x. So after months of trying to decide of weather to leave sprint or take the move to att I finally took the plunge last Sunday and I have made the move. I absolutely love this phone, coming from my great OG EVO this phone rocks. The only and I mean only con I can say (at least for me) is the lack of the total 16gigs and sd slot. I mean can learn how to manage not having and SD but the fact that i don't have all of my 16 gigs (to be honest even 15 or so would have been nice) I kinda ticking me off, but not enough to leave this phone. Thanks again HTC for making a really good looking phone.
Awesome phone
Yea I know what ya mean. I saw this phone knew I had to have it. Tried every way I could to get my hands on it. Had an atrix 2 before and no one wanted to trade with boot. So I broke down and done early upgrade and just gonna try to sell my atrix 2. Got my case in today and hated to put it on this beautiful phone. But its clear so I can still see its beauty haha
OP, my story sounds a lot like yours. At the moment, I've got 4 phones (insanity)...4S (which will go to my wife to replace her iPhone 4), GNex (which I love), One X (more about it in a second), and S3.
Like you, it started by perusing the MP. Initially, I found a GNex for a great price in mint condition. I jumped at it and it's a wonderful phone. My only gripe is the speaker volume on calls. The tweaks that worked to make it louder when it was on ICS don't work anymore on JB, so it's become my backup phone. If only I could make the volume louder, it would be the perfect phone for me.
A week or so later, I came across a One X in the MP. Again, great price and mint, so I took a flyer and got it too. This was just before the S3 came out and I'd already decided to try the S3 since I had a S2 that was awesome. The One X was everything I'd hoped for. Beautiful design and that screen...OMG that screen!
So...then the S3 was available. I grabbed one from Best Buy off-contract. I love this thing! It's everything i was hoping for and more. I don't even feel the need to root it.
So then, I told myself a decision had to be made. I wasn't going to keep 3 phones (GNex, HOX, and S3)...that's just silly...right? So after using each of them for a week, I came to the conclusion that I'd sell the HOX, as I wanted to keep the GNex as a "play" phone to mess with ROMs and such and since the S3 was going to have such a big development community behind it it would stay also.
About 4 days passed after selling the HOX and I found myself missing it. So, the search began again for another one. Sure enough, another beauty popped up on the MP and I snatched it up. So, here I sit...3 phones that I rotate between. LOL...it's a sickness!
I won't lie, though. My go-to phone is the S3. But every so often I switch it up for a day or two and use either the GNex or HOX and get my fix. I'll keep the S3 for a while, but eventually (probably when the next Nexus phone is coming) I'll sell the HOX and GNex to fund it. I have no intention of going back to the iPhone anytime soon, though. These 3, along with my Nexus 7, give me all I need and more.
Since the One X came out, ive had (in order) Grey One X, White SGS3, Blue SGS3, Grey Int One X, Grey One X, Red SGS3, White One X. Yes, im crazy. Basically, even though I like grey much more than white, im happy im going to stick (and finally decidedly staying) with the one x. SGS3 is the phone I wanted to like, but all I enjoyed was the removable battery and microSD card slot (didn't use it for swapping but just for more memory). I think I just fell for samsung's blitz of advertising.

Beautiful design and that screen...OMG that screen!

all I understand is that you have lots of money
From beast called HTC One X
There is actually somebody local wanting to trade their galaxy nexus for a HOX.. hmm I don't know if I want to give it a go. All their constant updates and true jelly bean experience is kind if a win. But I love the looks of this phone. The touch screen feels amazing!

LOL...I wouldn't say that. I make enough that I can put away some play money. The problem is, my hobbies keep evolving. First it was my motorcycle and having to buy all the gear that goes along with that (in multiples, of course...gotta be ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at you and wet leathers SUCK!) Now, on top of that expensive hobby, there's this phone hobby that I've developed. Ugh.
The key is to make sure you take care of the things that matter most first. My car is paid off...my motorcycle almost is...my bills are all static, so I know exactly what I have to pay out every month. Little by little, put away money in a savings account and before you know it, you've got a nice stash to play with.
The phone hobby is really only expensive at the beginning. Once you've got a couple of phones, you simply sell one and move on to the next one. Now the overhead is low (you sell X phone for $300 and buy Y (new) phone for $400 so you're only out $100 total). The key is knowing when to sell the old phone (a window I've probably missed on the HOX...but I'll still get a decent amount out of it).

Software is software, we will get Jelly Bean in time. Screen, build, camera (DEF CAMERA) are way better on the one x. Dont downgrade yourself.

To be honest, I wouldn't give up my GNex for the HOX. The HOX is amazing, don't get me wrong. But the GNex is just so much fun with all the ROMs you can play with. The camera isn't THAT bad and if you use another kernel like Franco or Trinity, you can tweak the screen to be pretty darn good. One thing I love about the GNex is that it's nearly unbrickable. Unless you really screw something up, you almost can't.
I'd recommend both to anyone, though.

while I loved my galaxy nexus, AOSP was just too boring for me plus I don't really like the Holo theme all that much. I prefer the look and feel of stock sense... plus, this phone is dead gorgeous! yes, I know sold an open phone for a "closed" one, but all the roms over in the GN are just AOSP Jelly Bean... there were no real differentiators except some mods tweaks here and there.
Plus, I can't wait to get Jelly Bean Sense... I loved the changes in the notification drawer and the way notifications were displayed as well as the ability to have high res contact pics (synced with Google)

Thats exactly how I felt. Sure there 78 ROMS and 43 Kernels, but the phone is still visually 80% the same between all of them. ive been rooting/flashing my phones for a few years, and I gotta say that honestly, I have a 100% stock/unrooted 2.20 OTA One X and theres not a single want to change that (other than maybe ADFREE)

This. I'm running the rooted, odexed version of 2.20... the only reason I care to do root is AdAway and I do like to flash the occasional rom to check it out, but it seems like I always come back to stock 2.20.
Plus I can't stand AMOLED screens and how you can't see them in the daylight.

I was a DIEHARD SAMOLED fan, probably because of my bias toward Samsung (I love their TV's and have had them my entire adult life). But WOW, the daylight difference between these two is night and day. Big plus especially if you do alot of car-dock mode driving.
Funny thing is, is that I actually love AOKP/AOSP. I'm using CM9 on this HOX cause I can't stand sense. Only thing I want more on this phone are more kernels and OTG support. Then this will be perfect.
So with the new announcement of the Nexus 4 and how it will work on T-Mobile's network, I've been wondering if I should sell my One S to buy the Nexus 4? Is anyone else having similar thoughts? I am really interested in the bigger screen, higher resolution, as well as the S4 Pro processor and the 2 GB of ram. The One S has served me well but waiting on an official Jelly Bean release from HTC has been a big pain, though ParanoidAndroid has helped me deal with that. I can't imagine it being supported officially when 4.3 comes out.
Just wondering what everyone else thinks of the Nexus 4 in comparison to our One S.
Sorry, I didn't realize I was posting to the General section. This should belong to the Q&A section. I tried, but I don't know how to delete or move the thread.
I feel bad for messing up.
No worries a mod will move it. But on topic yeah its a great upgrade, it has the best specs on the market right now and it's only £279 I have already decided to upgrade and we can sell are one s on eBay and get the nexus 4 for like £30 on top.

I'm actually considering the same thing. Allthough the one S is a gorgeous device with good preformance and a wonderfulll build quality. But for this price its a real bargain, and as im on a 2 year contract i doubt the one s will keep up to speed. Plus I'm afraid alot of dev will jump ship aswell (some allready are).
Pro's for getting the Nexus 4 over the one S
- Better screen, this was a mayor lackbuster for the one S
- Newest chipset, allthough the oneS is doing a great job here, there is no denying the power of the s4 pro, and the nexus has a fresh aosp on top of that.
- Huge development community behind it
Con's
- Allthough the nexus has a great camera it doesnt has the same preformance and usability (burst, 0shutterlag, ect.)
- No sense. Yes its bloat, but we can't deny the solid preformance it has nowdays, and if we look at what 4.1 did for the one X i think i rather have a fun Sense ui over a vannila blend aosp nowdays (boring).
- I think i prefer the build quality on the one S, and it looks alot better aswell.
Still with this display, preformance, newest android builds is it hard not to consider it, especially with that price. And the development behind the nexus devices are really tempting too.
I'm buying the LG nexus 4 and selling HTC One S S3 because this phone was garbage. This was my last phone from HTC.
Goodbye HTC (crap), hello Nexus 4!
I like my HOS S4 but I cant resist the S4 Pro chip and the 2 GB of ram. The only con is the lack of an SD slot like the HOS.

I really like the my HOS S4 but I'll sell my One S for about the same price of the Nexus 4.
PS: I don't care about the SD
There is just one "small" problem. It looks like in Italy the phone it will cost probably 549€ or 599€ instead of 349€ like Spain\France\Germany(via play store)...so I won't sell my One S

This pretty much sums it up. I wont buy it, as my contact lasts one year
Will probably move to it as well, main reasons are
- nexus phone therefore we get updates as soon as they are released and will be guaranteed to get them
- bigger screen
I love the one s, prefer sense to stock android, will probably have a better camera and it has way more features, prefer Samoled, better design/build etc. but HTC as a company have really let it down with support and slow updates, can't see jb hitting my phone for another 4 weeks or so....
I just need to see reviews of it first and user opinions for the audio, camera and battery life, there are reviews for the optimus g, but lg's software seems to have been very poorly optimised (software/driver optimisation is very important in these areas), although these areas still look very good anyway except the camera.
In theory the battery should be better than the s as the n4 has a next gen battery, more power efficient screen and s4 pro, the adreno 320 is more power efficient than the adreno 225
I'm tempted by it so much too just cause its a new phone lol ... But I really don't like the huge screen and I'd miss my camera too much cause the camera the HOS has is too good .. AND honestly the way it feels and the weight and all that makes me not wanna sell this ... On top of all that I think I actually like sense over stock lol ...and screw LG after the g2x I don't think I'm ever getting over that

Wow, are you me? I really do love the camera on the One S and the build quality just feels excellent; the two things that I would say it has over the Nexus 4. I like the cool metal case and just how professional and solid it feel. Like you, I also had the G2x before the One S and felt like they had screwed me over (Crappy drivers, crappy camera, crappy promise of ICS, etc.). I'll have to really see if I trust Google more than I distrust LG on making a good phone...

Though HTC is not so good at delivering updates, in my opinion it is the most reliable OEM out there. So i won't move to LG or Samsung. My reason is based mostly on build quality, which kida sucks on LG and Samsung when compared to HTC.
Also, i don't really see the point in having the latest gadget. The HOS S4 will still be breathing at least a year from now, the CPU and GPU are strong enough. Plus, i don't really see how a quad core will help me on a mobile phone.
The only Nexus i really miss is the original Nexus One, the HTC Desire's brother.
You do realise that lg have nothing to do with the software? All they have done is made the phone and everything regarding software is handled by Google since it's a nexus phone.
Google said they shipped the lg design team over to Google headquarters in order to work with them very closely on the design and ergonomics of the phone.
Lg make fantastic hardware and a lot of their phones are very good as usual they are let down by the poor support and awful software.
I am really thinking about selling my One S S3 and getting a Nexus 4. I seems to be a very good phone.

I would definitely agree if you have the One S S3. It would be a significant speed bump and there probably isn't a significant con to the Nexus 4 that the One S doesn't share (non-removable battery, no SD card, etc.). I think the S4 version would be a tougher decision as to whether or not to upgrade to the Nexus 4.
Im getting the Nexus 4 the second I have the funds.

My thoughts exactly although I still have my N1, it will always be the one I never let go.
The speed and performance on this phone is outstanding and well asop has become very boring and old. Sense for me was a very big suprise as its come such a long way and just gets better. For me I'm sticking with my One S.

Lol, no way you will get 300 euros for a S3 one S, when you could get a S4 one S for that.
Especially if you have the black model, which has chipping issues.
Only way is if you can find someone around your area who don't have a clue about tech/android stuff.
