I need to factory reset my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4 - Android 4.4.2 Phoenix ROM), but need to save the SMS messages from Three In Touch as I need to refer to them later. How can I backup or export these messages so that I can retain access to them following a factory reset?
I use Three In Touch exclusively for SMS as I have no signal from my normal weekday location, and none of my SMS's are being mirrored in the primary SMS app.
use titanium backup

I want to save the SMS messages to my sim, I am changing ROM once in a while and I don't want the SMS messages to be deleted each time I upgrade.
Is there a way to save the SMS on SIM or memory card ?
PIM Backup will save your text messages an emails recent calls ect to your memory card.Just install it on your new rom and you can restore them all.
Thanks for the quick respond
After you flash a new ROM, but BEFORE you restore your PIM backup, make sure you don't have messaging enabled on your home screen - otherwise it will look like you've lost half of your messages after they've been restored. They are still there, they just won't show up in the threaded view. So, if the ROM you choose has the HTC Home or TouchFlo plugin enabled, go to start menu/settings/today/items tab and uncheck HTC Home or TouchFlo (I make sure everything is unchecked except the date plugin) then do the PIM restore. When it's done, go back an uncheck the date plugin and re-check either HTC Home or TouchFlo and you should now be able to click on messaging and see both sides of your conversations in threaded view.
thanks for any help
you have a gmail account?
Consider running something like SMS Backup + by Jan Berkel
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&feature=search_result
it will back up your SMS messages to labels in your gmail account... You can also restore to phone after wipe if needed.
It has worked pretty well for me. i.e. I haven't noticed any issues with it, and I can view my backed up SMS messages up in my Gmail account on my PC if/when needed.
While it says it can backup (but not restore) MMS messages, I don't get enough Pix messages to know how that works. Nor do I have it backup call log entries.
Hey thanks for this. Now I'll just back up my SMS before flashing and then restore them after flashing.
Hey guy's
I restored 33000 SMS with SMS Backup & Restore.
I selected it as the default SMS application, restored my SMS and get back to Handcent SMS as the default SMS application.
Everything seem's to be here but when i enter in a conversation (the biggest for example), blackScreen, nothing loads. I think kitkat doesn't like so many SMS.. but why? JB liked it
an idea? (I already cleared cache and data of each application)
So I have two Kitkat enabled devices my Galaxy S4 (i9505) and the LG G2, now I have been using SMS Backup and restore (SBR shortend) on a scheduled basis to backup these devices, Yesterday I decided it was time to update both roms and relied on SBR to sort out the messages on both like I had done previously on Jellybean.
However when restoring these messages they all have the same received information.
My SMS client is chompSMS however I have downloaded a few alternatives to see if it was a chomp issue, it was not. So then I proceeded to restore my CWM backup which sorted all this out and tried out a few different SMS backup tools in addition to SBR to see if it was an issue there, again nothing.
Now I'm desperate to restore the time stamps on the main conversation windows for organisational purposes.
The weird thing is if I enter the messages the timestamps from within the message conversations are all correct, they are just being displayed incorrectly in the main conversation list (the one that details the messages from individual contacts)
It appears that this is an issue with Kitkat specifically due to restrictions, I've tried the xposed plugin AppopsXposed and still no luck.
Can anyone help me sort all this out please, it would be greatly appreciated
Hi,
I recently changed my phone & used sms backup & restore to restore the sms on my new phone.I found out that manufacturer sms app was unable to show all the sms(1000 to be precise) in a very long thread.I tried textra & yaata with same result. However next sms was able to correctly show it. After some troubleshooting I decided to install google/android messages & made it the default sms app after which it also correctly synced to show me the 1000 sms in that long thread. After again switching over to my manufacturer sms app(& then yaata) I found out that they also now successfully show this long thread but textra still doesn't.
Is this the normal behaviour of sms app where if there are such large threads/conversations with 1000+ sms(only text no mms) then one needs to first install android messages & after that only other sms app can correctly sync to show such large threads & next sms is just an exception?
Is there any issue with using handcent next sms(like some privacy/security concern) as I saw that it was suspended from playstore for some time a few years back? I am currently using it without login/tencent account & intend to keep using sms backup & restore to take backup of sms.
Is there any other sms app(free only) that can always display the total no. of sms in a thread(like yaata & next sms) in conversations list(textra also shows it but only on sliding the conversation to right which I don't want)?
Lastly,is there any sms app that can remember the sim/number on which sms was originally received(e.g.dual sim phone sms A & sms B received on sim 1 & sms C received on sim 2) & when taking backup/restoring on another phone with same 2 sims then after restore it still shows/remembers sms A & B received on sim 1 & sms C received on sim 2.
