[L] Questions - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using SlimLP, 5.0.2, does anyone know why ES File Explorer won't work (nothing that does like system app uninstall and root works despite having root access / latest supersu.
Is there a file I can modify to change the dpi height of the soft-buttons in portrait mode?
Thanks

Because ES is a bit crap and requires pie patch to get root.

can you recommend an alternative with the same functionality?

Well you can use pie patch to get es working. I use root explorer and solid explorer but both are paid.

Think I found what you're talking about here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56123703&postcount=13

so anyone know about the changing the height of the soft-buttons?

I was hoping for something like modifying a line in build.prop or something for another change, oh well. guess I have to suffer without until SlimROMs releases a version with their mods.

For those of you who are using cm10 builds and are tired of seeing Verizon Wireless on your lockscreen and notification pulldown this will allow you to remove or change it to something else. I take no credit for this all credit goes to spunks3 for making the post over in the nexus forums, I just tried his method and it happened to work on our phone, also belair56 for the original find as well as dakota0206 for his post on the thread giving the correct eri.xml.
PLEASE NOTE: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR PHONE, MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY MODS SUCH AS THIS!
1) Download eri.xml onto your desktop or some folder you will remember where it has been placed.
2) Open "eri.xml" with something such as NotePad or WordPad and edit everywhere you see "Whatever you want or delete this and nothing will show up". You can simply change the text or delete the text between the quotations and nothing will show up.
3) Save "eri.xml" and copy it to the root of your SD Card.
4) Open Root Explorer or an app similar, copy "eri.xml" from your SD card to "/data" directory. Please make sure you are not placing it in /sdcard/data
5) Also make sure that eri.xml has the same permissions as in the thumbnail below.
6) Reboot, and Enjoy!

Confirmed working on paranoid android version 2.13
Hey thanks for this! I'm also using PA2.13 so should be easy. May I ask where you got that battery circle mod? In the meantime I'll search it. Thanks again.

was this it? Sorry to crowd the thread.
BTW got it working =D
Glad you got it working and actually I just pulled the images from an old copy of my systemui.apk when I had syngergy rom. Just modded my current systemui.apk, swapped out the images and edited the appropriate xmls.
Just tried on Paranoid 2.13 and it didnt work for me

It shouldn't really make any difference but what kernel are you using and did you follow the directions exactly? Also make sure you are putting eri.xml in /data and not in /sdcard/data also make sure eri.xml has the following permissions in the picture below.

It wasn't working for me either until I changed the permissions to above. Do any of the other comments in that file do anything? Kinda weird that it isn't there in the first place. Thanks, op.

Its just how the original xml was it doesn't do anything in fact if you really wanted to you could delete all the text above this first line
<EriFile VersionNumber="1357" NumberOfEriEntries="19" EriFileType="1">
And glad the permissions fixed it for you
This is pretty cool. Thanks for testing it and posting.

Thanks. I used to use this on my HTC Hero, but had forgotten how to do it.

Yeah it is a Touchwiz rom based on AT&T's JB leak. I will take a look in the framework.
Anyone wanna make a flashable zip for just Verizon Wireless. That would be awesome

Mokee OS lockscreen to Temasek CM7

Hello community!
The question that I have is:
I`m currently running Temasek CM7 ,I ran MokeeOS for 2 days last week, but switched back to Temasek because of lag and data drops. I really liked the locked screen with 4 rings(and the ring animation while charging) and I was wondering if there is any way I can import that screen in the Temasek build?
anyone?!
Think all you can do is skin it with something from the market.

Can`t I just copy -paste the file from Mokee to Temasek? Both of them are CM7 based, I just don`t know which file is it....
I think for something like this you have to decompile apks and change stuff around in there. Isn't lockscreen part of framework_res.apk?

Nope, you can change the DPI on many roms but its not nearly as customizable as paranoid.
Well thats unfortunate.. is there any way to get the status bar on the bottom along w the navigation buttons like you can on paranoid? Idk if thats a build.prop value I can play with

Nope has to be implemented into the ROM not build.prop

[Q] [Request] Modified NavBar DPI for Stock Lollipop 5.1

Hi all,
I've been searching for two days a way to reduce NavBar's DPI in Lollipop 5.1 Stock rom because they look too big to me. Since different people are looking for it (from what I've read), I would ask if someone that is able in this sector could kindly make a flashable zip for everyone (I really don't know how to... maybe with a guide I could try by myself).
Thanks in advance.
If you can't get that, get SoftKeyZ. Has keys of smaller size.

Thanks man but... this app only changes softkeys' dimensions not navbar's dpi... I
If no one wants to make this flashable zip this thread can be closed.
Thanks.

I've modified the navbar to 20dpi on stock 5.1 and using it without any issues.
You need to do change some variable values in framework-res and SystemUI apks as well as resizing the navbar icons.
Attaching a screenshot here to give you an idea about how it looks. Let me know if you need the flashable zips.

Thank you man! Could you explain how to change those values? I would make them 36 dpi but I wouldn't disturb you making a flashable zip...

Follow this link. It will give you a generic idea about how to resize the navbar. This tutorial is for kitkat, but the steps are more or less same. You need the latest apktool jar file and java 7 installed in your system.
Since lollipop some core things are changed most probably because of selinux and security stuff, so you need to use the manifest and meta inf files from the original apk otherwise device will boot loop.
Also you need to downsize the softkey icons in the System-UI apk, else it'll look ugly after resizing.
Finally if you lowered the dpi of your device, then resizing the navbar will increase the gap between the softkeys, some people will like that, but I prefer the keys to be as close as possible so that thumb's reach can be minimal. let me know if you want that mod too. Good luck.
Thanks man, but it looks too difficult to me... I don't know anything about decompiling, java, etc...
By the way thank you very much for spending your time answering my questions.
I'll stay on Chroma until GB is compatible with 5.1.

I was using Chroma ever since it was available for N5, but came back to stock because google maps was FC'ing continuously. Downloaded the latest chroma just yesterday night and still thinking of trying that once again to see how maps behave this time. Regarding navbar, typing the 'how to do' is much longer than modding the apk

I add myself to the discussion because on the web you can't find anything. For KitKat were available some zip file to flash via custom recovery on rooted device compatible with the stock ROM, but for Lollipop anything yet! 40 dpi would be perfect

How to to instal font?

How to install font for example this one https://fonts2u.com/sony-sketch-ef.font
Use Typeface for substratum.
But you need to be rooted
Typeface is good but I just used iFont and that worked well too!
Will I lose warranty when I`ll root Oneplus 6?
That's a good question
No you shouldn't lose warranty as long as you don't damage the hardware (someone correct me if I'm wrong)!

Yes I know, sorry there's was a misunderstanding I was thinking that you you said that it works with substratum on oos but of course you can apply it with root (more dangerous and sometimes bugged characters in lockscreen)

No problem sir.
I just noticed the lockscreen clock has a big square instead of the colon when changing fonts.
Same issue was on the Pixel 2XL, however there is a thread in the 2XL forums that had a fix. I tried that same fix on the OP6 with no luck.
Looks like I'll be sticking to the stock font until full OMS ROMs come out!
How many of you have installed iFont on your OP6? How does it work?
I like to use customized fonts but in the past I've always done it by manually copying font files into /system or something similar, and I'm leery of doing that on this phone until our tools are more mature.

You found any solution for this, yet ?
As I also face this issue and want to get rid of that I've tried several Font tools but none did it right. Allthough TypeFace is the nicest one for me.
Is there a way to change fonts manually? I'm rooted.

i fonts works only for rooted devices i guess any solution that can be done without a root??
I am now using Magisk fonts from the following thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/avfonts-march-6-t3760827
I don't know of a way to change fonts without root and I probably won't try finding a non-root method because I always root my devices.
Anybody know that it's possible to change emojis without root on OP6 stock?
