Text Message and Wifi calling On - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the T-Mobile Variant and was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I turn on the Wifi calling since my signal is low where I live at. But when I try to send out a Text message, I keep getting an error immediately that it fails to send. So I turned off wifi calling and then the text message goes thru. Weird but was wondering if there is a fix for this? I spoke to a T-Mobile rep and she couldn't figure out the problem either. I do like the Wifi calling feature but if I need to send a text message I have to turn off the wifi calling every time. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Based on my research, it comes with the territory. I wish there was a hands off workaround.

I've had the same issue with multiple Samsung phones (Sidekick 4g, s4 and s5), I think it's just one of those little pain in the *ahem* quirks. Super annoying

What's super annoying is it works as it should (text messages through WiFi on sprint) so it has to be something T-mobile did in their implementation.

Fuze doesn't receive calls

I've been having a problem with my Fuze randomly not being able to receive text messages or calls.
Sometimes when people call, they say it rings twice and goes to voice mail. All the while, I never hear anything or get a notification. This happened once after I texted someone to call me when they get a chance. They tried 3 times and then texted me back to say that they were getting sent to voice mail. I didn't get notification for either until after I called this person myself 20 minutes later. Right when the call connected, I got notification of a new text message.
Another time, somebody was calling me for 3 days. I didn't know he was trying to reach me until he finally left a voice mail and I got the notification for that (no missed call notifications).
I called AT&T and their tech support did some tests (called my phone) but since it isn't reproducible 100% of the time, they couldn't offer any explanation.
This isn't a bars/signal issue either as this is occurring in the same spot where my Tilt would always receive calls fine.
Has anyone else seen this?
I had the exact same problem with my Sprint Touch Pro & ended my contract early & switched to at&t. Hopefully it's not a fundamental hardware problem.

Did you get a Fuze when you switched? Has that worked better for you? I'm still within my 30 days, so I'm debating exchanging it or just returning it and giving up.
I'm having the same problem. I did a quick search and found this;
This AT&T Forum Post
I tried the workaround and haven't had a chance to really test it yet though. I also noticed a few other settings in there that might have accounted for it.
One selection inside the phone settings had to do with whether calls went to voicemail when you're "Unavailable" or "Busy." I'm not familiar enough with the phone to know when it might tag me as either one so I unchecked both and I'm going to recreate my missed calls this morning.
Someone called after the phone had been sitting on my desk all night so I thought maybe it thought I was "Unavailable" due to inactivity (I dunno, I'm winging it) so I'm letting it idle for a few hours and getting a call later to see what happens.
Incidentally I have the exact same problem, no call coming in, but then I get the voicemail message after I try calling someone.
Unless I'm misunderstanding your point, "Unavailable" just means that your phone is switched off or out of signal, and "Busy" means you are already in a call. It's nothing to do with the behaviour or features of the phone.
Cheers,
Steve.
Yeah, I'm wondering if the phone is becoming "Unavailable" for some other reason than me being out of range. I have full bars in the house and that's where this all happened.
I've noticed, too, that I didn't get any email (I have it set to check every hour, even hit send/receive after someone told me they sent me something and it still didn't find it until I sent a second email to myself from another address)
Again, I don't know much about phones but it almost seems like the phone has bars but drops off the network for accepting calls/messages until you do something to activate the system again... or something. I dunno, just speculating.
Last week I went in and exchanged my Fuze for a new one since it was still within the 30 days. Up until tonight, I thought the problem was fixed. I was chatting with my wife over IM and she told me that she tried to call but that it just went to voicemail. I asked her to call back and leave a voicemail to see if it would notify me. I also asked her to send me a text. I didn't get notification for either. I checked my data connection by starting up Opera and going to a few sites. So I know that I had a verifiable connection to the network. I called my voicemail and checked the message I knew that she had left. Only after I made the call did I get notifications for the text messages I had missed. I never got any notification for the voicemail or missed calls.
Unfortunately, it seems this is a problem that isn't related to individual hardware as this is my 2nd phone with the same problem. I've also replaced my SIM card since a salesperson at an AT&T store suggested that it might help. I'm running the stock AT&T ROM minus the bloat, so it's not a custom ROM issue either. At this point, I'm not sure what I should do.
The only other thing I can think of that makes me unique is that I currently reside in Washington state but my number is one that I had ported from California. Is there anything about you're (skyau) situation that makes you unique?
Well the same thing happened again tonight. I received text messages 10 minutes late and I didn't get a voicemail notification until I initiated a call. As much as this sucks, I'm hoping it will stay this consistent so that I can have tech support replicate the problem and then try and fix it.
You may have a problem with your phone number. I'd try changing it.
Have you had experience with a problem like this? Is the phone number really the issue?
If that's what the problem actually is, I'm willing to get a new number. But I don't want to change it just to check and see if that fixes it.
same problem! Really pissing me off I just lost a important job because of this issue a few moments ago! Is everyone running a stock rom? I tested a few, now back to stock no apps nothing trying to find this gremlin WTF!
I'm running stock ROM without the bloat.
I exchanged my Fuze (I'm now on my 3rd) on Saturday and changed my phone number yesterday. I'm waiting to see if the issue happens again. If it does, I'll probably do stock ROM, all the bloat, no apps. If there are still problems, I'll probably try different ROMs.
I was able to get AT&T tech support on the line when the problem was occurring luckily. We went through his battery of tests and he verified that there was a problem. It would seem that the phone forgets/loses it's connection to the towers/network. Notifications (calls, texts, voicemails) aren't received until after the phone remembers/reconnects to the network. It remembers/reconnects when you initiate a call or send a text (essentially require the phone to use the network).
The tech told me that as far as he could tell, it was a hardware issue and that I should exchange my phone. So I'm on number 3 now and hoping for the best. I changed my number because I've been in a different state for 2 years and I had no ties to previous area code. So I figured now was as good a time as any to get a full fresh start (phone/number/SIM).
That sucks about losing the job.
Bump, I just realized a few moments ago that my phone rings once and then it says missed call, i always assumed they called me and then hung up after one ring in case i was in class or i was busy so that i could call them back. this is not the case? Also a few cases a call will drop every now a then... is this due to the radio rom i flashed? typical symptoms of a incompatible radio for a specific location? I'm using the .25.35 blackstone radio in ithaca, ny.
Having the same issue. Phone is asleep, then alerts me to a VM. Missed call doesn't show up in missed call list.
Really pissing me off and I think is responsible for my issues with Slide2Answer somehow.
The only time I have missed calls is because of MSVC. If someone calls and it is private or unknown, it will not ring. If it is somebody in my phone book or who doesn't have a private number, the phone will ring.
So I turned MSVC off and the private callers and the unknown callers will ring in.
it happens to me sometimes as well sometimes the d pad area will flash but i cant answer and it wont appear on screen then it wont say missed call.
sometimes if i try to hit the dial button it will also drop connection and instantly pick it up again
annoying but not a huge problem for me
and of course not on stock rom

Wifi Calling Lag

I haven't found a thread on this, but then again I didn't do that great a job on searching.
Does anyone else have this issue? I am getting an average 50 Mbps download and about 7 Mbps upload but still get a 1 second lag between hearing the other person and them receiving my end of the conversation. Without wifi calling everything is fine.
If so, anyone have any tips on rectifying or point me in the right direction of the thread containing the info?
I can't even use Wi-Fi calling at all. Incoming calls don't even ring. I just get a voice mail notification.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA
I get an invalid sim error when set to cellular preferred, but I haven't had any trouble when set to wifi only or wifi preferred. I'm very light on voice usage though. I think there are several server locations, so issues could be regional, or (obviously) device specific. As of a couple days ago there was discussion of a widespread wifi calling outage (on tmobiles support forums I think, google it).
I've got some lag. Hoping it will get better if we ever get that update. It's really annoying since I'll say something...not hear a response... say something else...then accidentally cut into the other persons sentence. Then it turns into a sick game of who can finish the sentence first.
I've noticed the lag as well on wifi calls. I also hear my voice echo in the background when I'm talking to the person. They hear this echo which is delayed by a second or two. And I get crackling sounds pretty often, but I can usually understand the person ok.
I hope the next update TM pushes out fixes this and I hope it comes soon.
My wifi calling was not working at all as of a week ago (I was getting SIM errors) but now it seems to be working fine. No echo or delays here.
The person I am calling sees my wife's name in the caller ID (I guess because she's the primary person on our account?) but that's the only quibble I have.

Wifi/Wifi Calling/Airplane mode/MMS weirdness

Ok. This is very strange. It's happening on both of my One S phones. It's possible it only started after the OTA update.
When wifi is on and wifi calling is enabled, the airplane mode setting goes into a state where it says it's "turning off" and the on/off button is diabled.
When it's like that, I can not send MMS with Go SMS (I can send with stock messenger during that time).
If I turn wifi calling off, airplane mode goes into off and I can send MMS with Go SMS.
I know the OTA had something to do with a wifi calling fix, but I think they broke something.
It's like when wifi calling is on, it's disabling the ability for mobile data to come on to perform functions that are not done over wifi (i.e. MMS).
How do u activate WiFi calling? Sorry I'm not stealing your thread and is it true if using WiFi calling u don't use your minutes?

It's in the settings menu, I don't have the phone at the moment, but I think you have to click the dotted line under mobile network and it's in there. Yes, wifi calling is free, but you have to call them and add a free wifi calling plan to your account.
Any further discussion, I'd ask that you start your own thread.
Anyone able to confirm my findings on the issue I posted about and any thoughts as to what's going on?
I cannot exactly verify what you are experiencing, but I use GoSMS and I have always had trouble with it and wifi. But I do think it had gotten worse since the update.
In my situation when I boot the phone art home (where I have no signal and a fixed, auto wifi connection), wifi calling isn't on... Until I make a call. Then it takes about a minute to turn on and turn blue (it almost always starts out with an "invalid SIM" error). And in my situation, until wifi calling is running, my SMS is spotty. Them while it is initially on I can also send SMS. Then when it goes off again (usually if I don't make a call for about 30), at this point I cannot send SMS without a reboot.
I am running various log applications, and in reading the log enough times, I can definitely see consistent regular errors mentioning the GoSMS app. I also am pretty sure this update fixed a few things, but it also broke stole things.
You should go download a log program, and let me know of you see GoSMS errors.

That's for comfirming!
How'd the screw this up so badly? It's going to be months before they push a new firmware up to fix this.
Same here
So any work arounds to get MMS to work with Go SMS w/o turning off wifi calling?
Also, I posted on the T-Mobile forums here:
http://support.t-mobile.com/message/148722
Maybe some of you can jump in here and voice your complaints too?
I was able to get HTC to escalate to a tier 2 tech who was very vigilant with trying to reach me to discuss the issue.
After detailing exactly what's happening, he commented that he say some other reports of this issue and something about a youtube video detailing it as well. Said he'd look into it further.
The next day, he called back saying they confirmed it's a bug and it would be fixed in the next maintenance release, but had no idea when that would be.
Very happy with HTC's level of support (after the first few go arounds getting tier 1 to finally understand what I was talking about and escalate).
A T-Mobile forum rep also noted that they've reported the problem and are working on it as well.
Not much else I can do here. Hopefully there will be another software update coming in the next month or 2.
This is happening to me as well. Like you all, when I called Tmobile to ask them about it, they said both the signal fluctuating problem and the random airplane mode are known problems that HTC "is working on a fix for. I guess the pro is that this has been a pretty big phone for both HTC and Tmobile, right? So I'll be optimistic about a fix. OTOH, can I assume this isn't a problem in the ROMs?
Well I hate to disappoint, but this isn't just a HTC problem, I am on the Galaxy SIII and I am experiencing the exact same issue. I'm not sure if T-Mobile uses their own programmers to code the wifi calling and functions, and then just submits it to the manufacturer to add in or what, but there is definitely an issue here.

Maybe that's not a bad thing then. Perhaps an update to the wifi calling app is all that's needed to fix? That certainly would be a lot easier than needing new firmware.
Are you having the exact same issue?
Here is a quote off some research I've done:
It could be done technically. AFAIK all communication between MMS enabled components is done via standard TCP/IP. But in a regular provider setup the MMS store and forward server(s) (MMSC) are only reachable via the providers network. That's why you can not send and receive MMS via WiFi.
It's also the reason why you can not make a call and send/receive an MMS simultaneously when you have only 2G (GPRS/EDGE) connectivity.
Normally android will drop the GSM data connection if there is WiFi connectivity and all data will be routed through the WiFi interface, but there is one exception: The MMS traffic will still go through the mobile data connection.

So normally, if you are connected to WIFI and send an MMS, it triggers your phone to open up the data connection with your carrier just long enough to send your MMS. With TMobile, there is something in the programming that is stopping our phones from doing so. However, this seems more of a GoSMS issue now because the stock messaging apps does perform this function fine.
I'm seeing this problem as well, but the other issue with WiFi calling for me is that it doesn't do touch tone automated systems well at all. Such as voicemail. It straight up doesn't recognise my password input at all unless WiFi calling is off.

I owned the ONE S before the SIII and had the same issue -- It will record your password, you just need to type it a lot slower than normal. I would suggest setting up visual voicemail, or downloading a visual voicemail app like Youmail.

[Q] Problem with not receiving calls/texts while on LTE

I started to notice that I wasn't receiving a bunch of calls or texts on my Nexus 5 for a while, and then I was able to figure out that when I'm connected to LTE, my phone won't receive any calls, it just goes straight to voicemail and I never get a notification of a missed call on my phone. Also texts will be delayed until I'm not on LTE. When I turn LTE off and 3G on only, it works just fine. I'm with T-Mobile, but Sprint users have reported the problem as well. Does anybody else have that issue or have you heard of that issue? Is there any type of fix?
There's a link to google's productforums where a bunch of people are having the same problem when connected to LTE. but I can't post the link because I don't have 10 posts yet, lol. The title is Nexus 5 sometimes doesn't ring when people are calling it.
I'm wondering if it's not a more widespread issue but most people just don't realize they aren't missing any calls because they don't have any missed call icons or anything.
This usually occurs when you are on LTE only so I am guessing the issue is that its not switching to HSPA properly. I assume your device when its not on 3g only is set to use all networks. Hopefully this gets resolved for you.
if your phone is on lte only, you can not recieve phone calls or texts, it needs to be set on lte/gsm as phonecalls go gsm and not lte.

AT&T LG V10 Wi-Fi Calling Issues

im having trouble connecting to the wifi calling service on my v10. what i mean is that i turn on wifi calling but nothing happens. the setting menu says it's on but i can't call or text or anything. It usually works since i have to use it every day at my apartment but often times it has problems working (whether it takes to long or it doesn't get set up at all) anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? also does anyone else have a problem downloading pics via text message and/or receiving messages from certain people while on wifi calling?
any help is appreciated
thanks
