i have the same "problem".
it's all written in the title thread. how to unmount *USB* otg on cm12? if i disconnect forcedly, it says "unmount *SD card* before disconnecting" warning message on the notifications, and if i try to re-mount usb otg it doesn't read anything (no pendrive or usb things).

Try using USB OTG Helper from the Play Store.

Under settings, storage, and Scroll down to the USB section. You will see unmount USB. Looking for better ways to do this, but have so far not had any luck.

Quite an old thread, but for your solution there, I don't have any USB section on it. It is just Internal Storage and SD Card. (CM12.1 on Zenfone 5)
Is there any other method that I can use? Thanks in advance.

not entirely sure, my phone shows a USB section, but only when a USB device is inserted. not sure why your device does not show the USB section. even more confusing when you are on CM12.1, same as my phone has.
sorry, can't help you on this one.
maybe look at the app in the comment above mine?
USB OTG Helper. if the description is accurate it could help.

Oh.. this app is actually to the point. Thanks

I tried that but no result.
thx
It should be listed as usbdrive using your favorite file manager. Usually under
...
...
sdcard
sdcard2
usbdrive
Its not like windows. It doesn't pop up with a window when you plug it in. Flash drive must be formatted fat32. Android doesn't like ntfs

I do see the USB drive bit it's always empty. USB drive is fat32 formatted.
Using a USB mouse works great. I don't get a popup which notifies me about a connected usb drive like my archos 101 did.
Did a little discovery:
When connecting the tab to pc with a usb cable only then a "mount usb" message pops up.
Then a usb drive will work.
Now how do i get the gtab to mount the usb drive ?
I don't think any of these roms are gonna give you a popup when you load a usb drive. I just plugged one in on tnt 3.1 and it reads it thru file manager. I was on vegan beta4 and did the same thing yesterday
Edit: usb disk not usb drive
When you connect a cable from your pc to the tablet the pop up is to allow the tab to unmount the internal sdcard so your pc can read it.

Open iFileManager and hit the icon that looks like a house. Scroll down and you will find a folder named usbdisk. That is your usb drive. Open the folder. I'm assuming the usb drive is plugged in

/usbdrive is empty.
It becomes populates when i insert a mini usb cable and connect it to the pc.
This give me the mount option and only then i see files under /usbdrive.
idk then, I never had a problem reading the usb drive on vegan beta4. Sorry I can't help
OK, found it.
I have to unmount the sdcard first. Then the usb drive shows with files.
Thanks.
Cool....You may wanna drop a note in the vegan thread on what you did. Maybe others have had the same issue.

Hey. I just got a USB Flash Drive and tried connecting it to my GTab but no dice. I am running Vegan 5.1 and using ES File Explore. I navigate to the root directory and see sdcard, sdcard2, and usbdisk. Sdcard and sdcard2 has my internal storage and my micro usb storage files respectively. But nothing pops us in usbdisk. I tried removing the microsd, rebooting with the USB inserted, and unmounting the microSD but no dice.
Any hints?
Thanks,
Scott
Update: So I tried going to settings and unmounting the sdcard and now I can see the USBdisk. Odd. If I want to transfer data from one drive to another, I cant accomplish that because the SDcard is unmounted. Also all my appdata and stuff are not present. Any way to have both of these drives mounted at the same time?
Thanks

Blank USB storage or has unsupported file system

Flashing the newest leak failed, and bricked my phone....after doing several different things, I have the phone functioning again, the internal SD card is giving a "Blank USB storage or has unsupported file system" error and I cannot mount it or access it. I have reformatted it from both the OS and from recovery. Cleared caches, all of that, and no joy.
I've been searching for the last day, and haven't found anything useful. And advice on what I can try would be appreciated, or, at the very least, someone that knows what they're talking about just letting me know that it's pretty well screwed.
Thanks

Are you referring to the "USB Storage" or "external_sd" folder in your internal?
The "external_sd" folder is just that...your external sd card.
The "USB Storage" folder is a feature of the skyrocket that allows you to connect a thumb drive to your phone with a micro USB to USB adapter.
If you do not have a thumb drive attached to the phone this folder will be blank by default.
Is that what you are talking about?

That is the error that it gives-- basically, the internal SD card doesn't show up and won't mount. Formatting it, it acts like it does it, does the scan afterwards, and has the same issue. Go to a file browser and it says "no sd card inserted." Go to storage in settings, and it shows device memory (total space 1.97GB), USB Storage is blank, SD Card has "mount SD card" when if touched tries to mount and then apparently fails and goes back to the "mount SD card" text.
If an external SD card is inserted, the only thing that changes is that a "SD card safe to remove" notification comes up.
From recovery, if I try to mount /emmc it says "Error mounting /emmc!" attempting to format /emmc gives the same error.
Have you tried to start from scratch from download mode using odin file?
I'm not at home right now but when I get home I can link you the instructions
EDIT:
Can you get into download mode??
-plug usb into computer(not phone yet)
-Turn off phone
-hold both volume up and down and plug usb into phone, continue holding until you see download mode
-should prompt you to hit the up volume button
-you should now be in download mode
-download this: "Odin one click 4.0.4 from kennethpenn" - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1652679
-make sure Odin sees your phone in one of the COM ports. Start Flash
-if everything works fine you should be on 4.0.4 ICS and you are free to do as you wish
Hope this helps. Kinda used as a last resort. Assuming you want ICS...

put it in a computer and check. File system should be fat32. not fat16, fat, or ntfs. I dont believe the phone does an actual format of the sd. I know thats what it says, but I think it means just erase. A real, true format is done after the empty space is partitioned and properly allocated. Ive never seen an unpartitioned sd card sooooo.

It's the internal SD card that's partition that appears hosed-- the built in one that can't be removed. I Downloaded an App that shows the partition table, and all that is listing is:
/mnt/sdcard
(mmcblk0p1) 0.0/0.0MB
/sd-ext
(mmcblk0p2) 0.0/0.2MB
I'm having the same problem. Re-flashing UCLF5 didn't help. I'm about to flash UCLE2, but have no real reason to think it'll work.
Ideas, anyone? The "usb storage" is the internal sd card and can't be removed and stuck in a computer.

You can save your time....I've already flashed to UCLE2, and even back to the original stock, and it doesn't help. Now I'm back to UCLF5.
If I can get it rooted, I may try to edit vold.fstab and mount my 32GB on /mnt/sdcard. I don't even care about the internal space, really, but it'd be nice to have a more elegant fix.

fstab edit seems to have worked, at least at a glance. But it'd still be nice to actually fix the internal storage.
Have I tried hooking to a PC? It can tell you allot about the drive after its mounted

Could you give me a quick rundown on what you had to do? How you get it to root and the process involved with the fstab edit? I'd appreciate it.

I can't post links yet, but if you google 'how root uclf5', the top hit is the guide I used. BTW, I had to apply the icsSuperuser zip from the SD card something like 10 times before it finally took.
Then installed a root browser with built-in text editor (root explorer) and used it to edit /etc/vold.fstab. Make the top of it look like this:
Code:
# internal sdcard
{
storage_struct = cover, "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd","/mnt/sdcard/usbStorage"
ums_sys_path = /sys/class/android_usb/f_mass_storage/lun/file
#discard = enable
#secure_format = enable
android_secure_containers = enable
}
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host/mmc2/mmc2
# external sdcard
{
ums_sys_path = /sys/class/android_usb/f_mass_storage/lun_ex/file
android_secure_containers = enable
}
#dev_mount sdcard1 /mnt/sdcard/external_sd auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host/mmc2/mmc2
I'm having this exact same issue. No fixes? I'm going nuts here.

This is what I always assumed as well. However, I have never been able to make this work. I also don't know enough to see how it could? (Insert flamage here) To me it would have to link to a dynamic disk that doesn't exist yet and the devices ability to power whatever you plugged in to it.
That said, I still tried it. "....to connect a thumb drive to your phone with a micro USB to USB adapter." ...on many rom/kernal/etc combos as well as trying to mount it in recovery (turns out that "usb drive" in recovery, doesn't mean that folder). So, at least on my phone, the USB Folder has never populated. (Additional flamage here)
I have done my DD on this and am really curious....hmmm
Anyone...?

I don't believe that is what was meant. They mean using your phone as a usb thumb drive so that you don't need to carry around a usb thumb drive. Simply connect your phone to your computer via the usb cable and mount the drive.
I'm having a similar issue but I'm unable to connect my phone to my computer, it's complaining about "security policy restricts use of external sd card". I'll keep searching or maybe create a new thread if I can't find an answer.

[Q] USB OTG on Nexus 5

I order this phone without SD card only because of rumors saying that it's USB OTG works, not like Nexus 4, which I returned after failed trying to get USB OTG working.
Now I get this phone on my hand, but failed to let it recognize any or my USB sticks nor SD card through reader.
Is there anything special I need to make USB OTG to be activated?
Otherwise I would like to return this to Google. I won't use any Cloud **** for my storage: 1) security reason 2) mobile bandwidth is very costly here 3) upload stream is normally limited at 30kb/s
Well that's good, since the n5 doesn't have an sd card slot.

Hi, when I plug in my usb memory nothing happens, I installed USB OTG Helper and I get code 5, I already tried another memory card and it doesn't work either, however, I tried a mouse and it works perfectly, what can I do?

It might be worth the $4 for Nexus Media Importer available on the Play Store. I tested it on the Moto G and it's working flawlessly. Keep in mind there's always the off chance your OTG cable is incompatible.
I have the same problem after updating to kit kat (only works wireless keyboard), in 4.3 all worked perfectly. All usb has mounted with FAT32 system.
Sorry for my english.

[Q] USB OTG mount problem

HI guys, I am very satisfied with this phone when I got it a week ago. However, I was facing sometimes my phone unable to mount USB OTG storage, I mean the USB drive won't lit at all / detect by phone, I have to reboot the phone then it only gets detected. Any other way round to solve this without rebooting?
I haven't had trouble using my OTG usb stick so far. Have you tried using Nexus Media Importer? It lets you mount/unmount on demand.
Does it show the USB drive as unmounted in the Storage menu?
Also, did you try a different thumb drive with a different filesystem on it? I cannot reproduce your issue at all.
Ok after my investigation, the USB OTG still works but just the USB port of my phone unable to supply power, if I use a power bank + USB hub then connect to my phone, my phone detects the USB drive. Similar to somewhat my phone requires external power to mount. But if I reboot my phone then the USB OTG work properly again though. Until I remove and remount it next time, then the problem occur again.
Currently my phone setup as my signature. No custom kernel but just recovery.

Ok I know whats the problem now. You can try during deep sleep insert in your USB OTG. It can't detect at all even if you remove and reinsert. Have to reboot the phone. So my guess is right I think. The phone have to screen on to insert USB OTG or else it cannot detect.

few older phones supported 500gig portable hard drive too but did not support 1tb, my phone will be delivered tomorrow I'll update here then.
Fingers crossed.
I just tried a 16GB USB drive through an OTG cable, and it didn't detect it. My screen was on, and I was running stickmount as well.
I had to restart the phone to get it to detect.
I have the same issue with my N8010. Have to restart to get it to recognise the USB.
Hopefully, there will be a simple solution to this.

Well it seems in my case it's rather random, sometimes USB drives (or HDD's) will mount, other times nothing happens at all, while some drives refuse to mount at all.
Maybe it's faulty cable don't know?
I have problem
I was able to mount USB 3.0 64 gb without any formating, and it shows in settings too, but now I can't see it in settings and in El file explorer it is very slow.. What should I do, I can't format to fat32
Same Problem
I can not get any drive to stay mounted, cable works fine on nexus 5 so do the drives but no luck with opo has anyone any info on this since oct 2014 post
I can not get any drive to work too. I tried variuos, from 1gb to 500gb, also tried with FAT and NTFS, none of them working. Please help. I am using CM12S, newest firmware, it doesnot work, on 11S it did not worked, i tried on Oxygen OS, doesnot work too.
