Hi!
a few weeks ago I bought myself a nice 16GB sd card on e-bay. The seller had 100% positive feedback on similar items, so I thought, this must be a nice guy. However, whenever I try to copy files to the desire after 2GB or so the transfer freezes and the file system of the card gets damaged, so I have to format it. Any suggestions as to how this could be explained/fixed? Otherwise I'm asking my money back (thank you paypal!)
i've a 16gb sandisk sdhc class 2 but never had such problems, maybe is something software related?
Ok heres the deal...
There is a chance the sandisk you purchased is not real, its fake, a 2GB reprogrammed to appear as 16GB. The packaging will appear perfectly real etc, due to the nature of memory carads returning them to sellers is near impossible as they will direct you to manufacturer.
The card might be damaged, have you tried a reformat, delete partition and recreate?
have you tested this in another machine?
+1 fake SD card. It's really hard to find legit SD cards on ebay

It's your choice mate. I've had bad experiences with Sandisk cards in the past and only buy Kingston ones now.
i had the same issue with a 16gb kingston...package and all was 16gb, but it was a very slow 8gb...thrown it away.
Its seems more and more of the 16Gb cards from ebay are fake.
Have heard more and more reports of this recently.
I've had the same issue with large cards coming from eBay, so I'd decided not to be a cheapskate again and plumped for the best 16GB I could find.

Haven't regretted it at all, however the price of the 16GB is a LOT.
Yeah i'd be looking to get a refund on that, sometimes the seller isn't at fault though, it could be that his/her supplier has a fake batch of cards. This is getting more and more frequent and a quick google search will show many horror stories as well as ways of checking to see if your card is actually a fake.
My advice would be to stay clear of ebay for memory and buy from a reputable distributor like play.com or mymemory.com
I purchased a sandisk 16GB ultra mobile (class4) from mymemory.com, think it was around the £45 mark at the time. Currently using around 9GB of it with no issues. Also transfers files much faster than the 4GB class2 that my desire was bundled with.
I am also having this kind of trouble with a Sandisk 16GB card.
The possibility that it is fake is very small for 3 reasons:
1. It works perfectly as a 16GB at my computer
2. It works perfectly as a 16GB at my camera
3. It was bought at the Sandisk master distributor here in Israel.
I tried to format it in the following way:
1. In recovery mode I partitioned the card.
2. I upgraded ext2 -> ext3 and then again ext3 -> ext4
3. took the card to the computer and formatted it FAT32.
4. copied the material from the old card to the new one.
And still, when I try to turn the Desire on with this card on it, it stays booting forever.
I am using REDUX Gingerbread rom.... is there something I am missing?

use gparted / any partition manager to check whether you have duplicate ext partitions, it causes freeze, and make sure both fat and ext are "primary" drives and not "logical" drives

When you've copied the material from the old card to the new one... did you copied all partitions with a nandroid restore (and not just fat32 partition) ?
I just bought a 16GB card on ebay for £20 delivered, class 6. He specifically said it would meet the class 6 spec so I will Paypal him if it doesn't. I'll also test it in linux by dd'ing all the way to the 16GB to ensure it works.
Will report back.

My £20 delivered turned up. It's a Lexar (apparently) and testing shows;
write speed: 8.4mb/s
reading: 8.1mb/s
So I'm not sure, read speed should be higher!
Second time got 7.9mb/s and 15.2mb/s. I think it's legit.
Same happens to me!
Yeah I've been stung with a knock off SD card as have two of my friends. I was 'lucky' mine was just poor quality so it had really bad read/write speeds and was able to send it back. My friends cards just didn't work and they couldn't get refunds.
The cards on eBay are cheap for a reason, pay the extra and get it from a reputable retailer is my advice.

I am about to order the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T. I have been debating as to which capacity of storage to get - 32GB or 64GB. This may be a no brainer for most but money is sort of an issue with me. I wondering what benefits beyond the obvious I would get for getting the 64GB version over the 32GB and adding a micro 32GB SD card. Is it really worth spending $100 more to get the 64GB version? Or should I just buy the 32GB SD card for about $35 buck and save $65. Either way, most likely I will buy an SD sooner or later.
What are your thoughts?

i got the 32gb version. just by a 32gb or 64gb memory card. thats just my opinion though.
Get 32gb and then a 32gb sd card. Much more cheap or a 64gb sd card will still be cheaper

I got the 64gb and bought a 64gb uSDXC. That's how I roll.
I'd say go 32gb and add a 32gb card. At least, that's what I'm doing. $100 just to double the space is a bit ridiculous.
Buy the 32 gig version and the dock, then connect that to a 2+ terabyte external hard drive through USB. All the storage you could ever need.
I had the 64 GB Prime Ans never really utilized the space. Also ran a 32 GB microsd card that would hold movies and TV shows. Will just buy a 32 infinity. You forget how much of my stuff I stream nowadays. My entire music collection is in the cloud and the video that is not on Hulu plus, Netflix, Time Warner or HBO Go apps expandable memory makes a huge difference. And there are only certain formats it will read from an external hard drive so do some research. I forget off the top of my head what formats work.

The sane answer would be 32 GB and a 32 GB memory card. That would mean I'm insane -- I bought the 64 GB edition (a few weeks before retail release though, so I jumped on the opportunity of having it before 99.99% of other owners and took the budgetary hit ) and I stuck a 32 GB SDHC and a 32 GB microSD in it (if it had been reported that 64 GB would work, I'd put in even more memory, as you can never have enough of that).
Buy the 32 gig and a 64 gig microsd card, you have 64 gig and you save your money
If you need more storage, buy an USB kit, then buy a 2 TB external hard drive and use the USB kit to connect that hard drive to your tablet, buy something call "USB hub" that let you connect a full size sd card to the USB kit, if i'm correct maximum storage of sd card is 512 gig, so now you have
32 (internal storage) + 64 (microsd) + 2048 gig (external hard drive) + 512 gig (sd card) = 2656 gig
Get the 32gb card for sure, the TF700 has issues reading 64gb cards. Check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1761861
If you plan on getting the dock it reads 128/64gb cards no problem (its a full size SD port on the dock).

128gb is the largest SD card currently available. Anything advertised as bigger is fake...

The rational behind getting the 64GB version would be if you need more of the FASTEST storage. While there are plenty of ways to increase storage capacity, none matches the transfer speed of the local storage.
But this PC Mag review says something interesting about the 64GB version of the device.

At the moment, many people can't use class 10 64GB cards in the TF700, they work in the dock though. And class 6 64GB cards work in the device.
So there's lots of issues when it comes to storage. "If" they resolve all issues with the JB update, the built in storage would be fastest.
Of course everyone has to make their own call. But given the varied issues, I'm planning to get the 32GB version. Just because so many people are getting the 32GB version and there is usually more strenght in numbers. So the 32GB version might have class 10 64GB cards working, before the 64GB device works with anything higher than 16GB cards and local storage issues resolved. Also, with so many people getting the 32GB version, most Dev work will likely be performed with that device. Which would mean if there are issues with a Developer's work on the 64GB version it may be harder to get a fix.

There are only two plausible choices for SD cards. Samsung and samsung ultra, both of which only go up to 32 gb. All the other ones aren't shiny.

To each their own. As detailed throughout the linked tread, people have had positive results with various cards of their choice. But most encounter issues with 64GB class 10. It remains to be seen if the JB update will especially address that.

I didn't read through all the responses. I saw a lot of discussing this issues regarding what cards work and don't.
I think someone posted the article on PCmag about buying tablets with more storage. Really, what is said, the extra money is just a lot more profit for the manufactures since it costs less than $10 to add the extra memory.
In my opinion, there is the hard fact about the cost. I think you have to look at how you use your device and what you plan to store. Personally, I went with the 32GB version since the tablet has the SDHC slot. Most likely, this is more than enough storage for ninety percent of users. That's a lot of apps to fill up. The storage suck is if you keep a lot of video, or 1080p DD5.1 and high bit rate. You could do it if you keep your whole music collection on it as well. Maybe in the future some games will need more space with they're more a full fledge games like you find on PCs or consoles. I think it's more an issue with tablets like Nexus 7 that come in significantly smaller configurations--8GB or 16GB.
Heck, I just spent $50, from Amazon's deal of the day, and got Scandisk SDXH 64GB card. It appears to be working, but I haven't fully tested everything out. I've read Titanium Backup can have issues with it. I've barely touched the memory on the tablet.
I don't know you know for nothing. I would suggest getting the 32GB version and use the $100 on something else, such as a keyboard, case/cover, extenral battery, apps, and so forth.
I bought the 64gb version for one reason. On my phone I would install a couple of games from gameloft and it would install in the phone and not on the sd card. The game wouldnt work if I moved it to the sd card, so at the rate the games are going now they are going to require more space. I just didnt want to be stuck like I was with my G2x. Music, Pics, Movies all are on SD cards and games will be left in the internal storage.

My podcast app folder is on the card and often it gives me an error saying feed had an error saving eipsode.
Also had issues having Titanium Backup folder on the sd card, not saving the latest backup.
Did a nandroid backup with TWRP which gave me no errors but when I went to look for the backup, it was not there.
Tried using sd card as default picture folder but noticed some pictures I was taking not being stored.
Anyways, if you have a Sandisk 128gb on your S5 let me know if it's running smoothly. If so, I'll bite the bullet and spend the $$$ to buy the sandisk.

I didn't think anyone but Sandisk made a 128Gb microsd card. You should verify that it is *actually* 128Gb instead of a smaller card just reporting 128.
*edit* Upon further reading, that looks like the classic fake card scam. It is actually a smaller card like an 8Gb, where it simply overwrites data after the first 8Gb is used.

Thanks, but I tried that already with no success. I already purchased the SanDisk version. Now I have to wait for Amazon to ship it once they put it back in stock. For the mean time, I'm using my old 64gb SanDisk from my S3.

I had big problem when formatting a 64GB card to FAT32. You should stick to exFAT.
Only buy memory products from reputable vendors. If you buy on Amazon, make sure it is "sold by Amazon.com". I bought a fake Sandisk card from a 3rd party store on Amazon.

Yeah sounds like you bought a "hacked" card. Pretty classic on eBay when new classes and sizes of cards come out.

I've actually seen some of those 128gb generic microsd cards being sold on ebay for $49.
seller seems to have almost 2000 positive feedback.
Might just wait for the sandisk one to be sure.

Hacked was a poor word choice, but frauds terms have been reprogramming smaller flash storage storage so to show as larger ones and selling them on ebay for sometime. As far as I know only Sandisk is making and selling them, so generic branded cards throws a red flag. With sizes like that, it would take sometime typically before the fraud is detected.

Forgot where I read on the S3 that the 64GBshould have been formated to fat32, but I never had problems after doing so. And it was an original sandisk microsd card.
And yes, I bought it from the Sandisk amazon store, fullfilled by amazon under amazon prime. It will arrive tomorrow and I'll post back here confirming if it works or not.

Exactly the one I purchased from ebay, thinking I was saving 80% from the originals from SanDisk. And I left a positive feedback for seller on ebay because I got the card 3 days after paying for it before I tested it out to see the problems. My mistake.
One thing I would like to point out though is that the card itself never gave me problems when connected to a PC via adapter. It would show its content and save whatever I added to without any problems. The issue was the card properly functioning inside the phone, as I listed on the OP.

I had two 64GB Sandisk cards fail withing a month or two after I formatted them to FAT32 and used in S3. I had to do it because I was on a kernel without exFAT support. Sandisk replaced both cards under warranty. I chatted with their tech support, and they couldn't tell me if FAT32 is officially supported, Their response was "people on XDA say it works":laugh:
Anyway, the card you ordered will come exFAT formatted, and currently I see no reason to change formatting to FAT32.

Got the new sandisk 128gb today and I can confirm it works flawlessly. Therefore, the problem was with the cheap and genetic card sold on ebay. Thanks everyone for your feedback and assistance on the matter.:good:
I have a 128 GB "successfully" running in my Sprint Galaxy S5 (900G) here. Lately it has been very stable. Up until about a month ago once every couple weeks it would seemingly flakes out, and any apps I had installed there had translucent icons ... I'd have to format and remounted to be recognized.
But for the last 3-4 months I've had no issues with it. I can move apps to it (at least some, others can move with an associated risk the app describes, and some cannot at all - I use App Manager III and I don't move apps that show up but have the warning "x" on them - )
I've had no issues mounting or having it recognized, or running apps from it asidre from the flakiness I described, which is probably because it is a class 10 speed - it's a very small space for 128 GB to function, the thing runs HOT, if you use some kind of dual-layer case the heat could be your issue (if there is still an issue there). Let me know!
I see in the specs that the SD is limited to 200GB. I have a 256gb - wll that be recognized but limited to 200gb, or will it not be recognized at all?
If so, could it be partitioned to 200gb to get around this limitation?
From what I've heard they said 200 because that's where the technology is. Why say 1tb when there is no 1tb. So in theory it should work.

Saw someone on here in another thread (might have been the Int. S7 forum) that said they had a "200GB" SD. Didn't seem right. It should be 256GB but what do I know. Turns out SanDisk makes a 200GB card... weird, right? Anyway, they do exist.
Edit: from what I'm reading around the web, 200GB is the current cap on microSD cards? A 256GB card is most likely fake and will read at 200 or lower capacity. Is this right?

I been using sandisk 200 gp sd card with 90 mgbs transfer and it works great. I do have a 512 gb sd card i got off ebay. i used it in my note 4 and lg4. it works, but i believe it to be unreliable. i just tried it in the s7 and it reads 500gb and i can access all files and pics. so i do believe if you could find a good 512 g card it will works. this is a cheap one i got off ebay. just fyi. regards.

SD cards of that size do exist. I should have clarified that I was talking about MicroSD, no standard sized cards. 200GB is the largest MicroSD size currently available.
I take that back there is a 512GB MicroSD but at about $1,000 (US) I don't think many here have it lol. Who made your 512GB card? Have you tested it to make sure it actually hold that much? Cons are very tricky and its very easy to change the capacity a card reports to a computer.

That's what you were being told. It's easy for those cons to make a 32gb card tell a pc or even a phone that it's actually 500gb. The test is to see how much you can actually put on it before you get errors. I bought a 64gb card on Ebay and it came from China. I learned very quickly that it couldn't handle that much data. I moved a few apps over no problem but as soon as I moved 20gb of music over I could no longer read the card. Get rid of the music and the card is readable. I complained to the seller and they said they'd exchange it. Well for the price and the time it took I decided not to. At the very least I got a thumb drive style microsd card reader out of that deal.
I wish 512 gb memory cards were affordablr

I was just keeping my mouth shut lol. I tried to hint at that to him but he seemed dead set that it was somehow the only 512GB microsd in existence or a got a $1,000 object for 1/100th the price. Oh well, some have to learn lessons the hard way.
San 200's are $79 on amazon right now.

These cards are normally "flakes" - I ordered one a while back and it's truly a 32GB card that they somehow reformat to be bigger. - And I got a LOT OF write errors.....Once your format it again, that 512GB turns into 32GB - so be aware - it's a SCAM.
The biggest "Official" commercial microSD card avaialble is 256GB.

Yeah the largest size one can get is 256gb that I know of, I bought one by Sandisk just for this phone and it works fine. I have been looking for a bigger one myself..
Mostly back up my pictures, and screen recordings to the classic usb storage unit
