I have read on other forums where users report that their built-in default music player stops as soon as they switch away from the screen and others say the have no issue. So I guess this is a mysterious bug. It's driving me nuts. Any ideas in trouble shooting this?
no help here
Sorry mine won't turn off no matter what buttons I push. Matter of fact I can't figure out how to truly turn it off, all I get is pause. Without advanced task killer it just sits in the drop down menu, waiting.
I do have the other bug with it though, I can't sort by artist with a lot of music on there. 25gigs, hit artist and it crashes and says not enough memory. There is more than a gig free on both the internal and the external cards. Bummer.
As of today it now plays in the background. If I can figure out a rhyme or reason as to why it wouldn't before I'll report back.

Mine always played in the background. You must be confuse with stock video player which can't play in the background for obvious reasons.

Nope, no confusion. When the program "Music Player" is launched a task manager shows that it is running but if the companion program, (whos name I cant remember) is not also running then the music will not play in the background. The companion program is launched by Music Player when an audio file is started. It has a similar name to Music Player. I believe it is named Sound Player and it has the same icon as Music Player.
If you start a playlist or album or whatever in the stock player and hit the home key it will show the music player now playin in the notification bar (where you can pause or skip songs. If you go back into the program and use the back button all the way out the program closes.

Ok, now I know how you get confused. Sound Player and Music Player are two different apps. No, Music Player does not require Sound Player in memory. Sound Player can't play in background while Music Player can.
The only way to launch Sound Player is to use My Files File Explorer and open mp3 or other sound files directly. On the other hand, Music Player can only be launched from app launcher and it offers following additional features:
1. Support albums and playlists.
2. Support 5.1ch playback on headphones
3. Support playback on the background.

That was some odd notations I made while I had a task manager installed last week. I just tried what you said and you are 100% exactly right! Phweeeh thats a relief. I was worried it would go back to not working later. Thanks for the insight.

My music player shuts off when I launch the camera app. Gingerbread I think you found a legitimate bug.
Does anyone have a replacement for sound player (not music player) that can run in the background? I'm sick of having streaming podcasts end when I need to do something else with my phone.

I think that people who have very large music collections will find that the player shuts off when they go into certain applications. My feeling is that this is Android's internal memory manager subroutine figuring that the audio player is eating up way too much memory, most likely due to the database being loaded the entire time the player is running, and deciding to close that one program rather than ten others to free up the same amount of space. How much memory does your player eat up while running?
The Sound Player is opening instead of the Music Player
On my Vibrant, a .mpga file used to open using the Music Player but now the Sound Player is opening instead. My phone is completely stock, never rooted and no aps downloaded, but I can tell which player is opening: after the player opens, I close it and then press and hold the home key to see which program just opened by noting the first program name in the list of the 6. (The two player's interfaces look almost identical so it is easy to think that the Music Player is opening when the Sound Player is the one actually opening.)
Some possible clues to the cause: I had just used the sound recorder for the first time. It creates .amr files. The .amr files showed up in the Music Player's playlist, but the file wouldn't play; so I browsed directly to the file using Files, clicked on the .amr file and the Sound Player opened the file. But now the Sound Player its opening .mpga files instead of the Music Player and my Music Player's playlist is now empty. (At least that is what I think the sequence of events were.)
I imagine that resetting the phone to factory default would fix it, but I'll have to learn how to backup my address book, web favorites, and goggle map starred items.)
I posted here because I believe I have detected accurately what is happening (maybe not the cause, but the fact that the wrong player is opening), and you experts might be able to suggest a workaround or get the bug fixed.

The mp3 must be in the music folder on the sdcard in order for music player to play in the background.
Not true. I've had music in other folders that got pulled into my music library.
Sent from my Samsung Captivate.

Try force a media scan to see if it fixes your Music Player playlist problem.
Right now, I'm using jetaudio as my music player.
I connect my phone via bluetooth to player music. But when I press play without opening/playing on jetaudio first, built in default music player plays (Apollo).
So, I disabled default music player. Now, when I press play nothing will happen unless I play on jetaudio first.
It seems when jetaudio gets unloaded from memory, bluetooth control does not work.
Is there anyway to set my phone to open and play with jetaudio when bluetooth control to play music is received?
I tired to set jetaudio as default music player, but could not find such a option. Also, jetaudio is not even on open with list when I open mp3 file.
Most likely, the developer did not implement the functionality for jetAudio to be the default app for music. You might want to request it from them. I've seen this issue in several camera apps, which can be a real pain if you have a physical camera button on your phone.
If the developer won't fix it, then you can fix it yourself with the app HeadsetButton Controller (and you'll add some extra functionality to your Bluetooth headset/device. It's definitely worth the few bucks if you use a Bluetooth headset IMO). The app includes an option to change the default music player, and jetAudio shows up for me as one of the options.
Thanks for the info.
I found also found app called Media Button Router. I will give it a try.
I am trying to figure out how to set a default player for Google Reader on my Transformer Infinity (TF700T). I completely reset the app preferences so there no longer any defaults on any apps, but when I try to launch an mp3 from Reader, the system automatically defaults to the system player and doesn't prompt me for any alternatives. The player's not bad, but it's modal so I can't do anything else when the player is in use. I prefer to use an alternate player so I can do other things while I'm listening. I see the same thing occurring when I launch mp3s from the stock web browser.
Any ideas? I've been looking all over the Interwebz and haven't found anything.
There's two apps for playing music: Music Player and Play Music. I know that Play Music is a Google thing. Is Music Player a standard android app or is it only available on Samsung products?
I'm asking because I'm trying to backup playlists using an app called Playlist Backup. For some reason, Music Player appears to get things in reverse order when Playlist Backup saves and restores the playlists. I'd like to ask the developer for a "feature" that would reverse the order but I don't know if he/she would have access to Music Player. I also don't know if its a Music Player or Playlist Backup "problem".
Thanks

Music Player is Samsung's default music app. I don't think Android has a default music app now that I think about it...You can also control Music Player with voice commands if you enable it in the S Voice settings.
Lockscreen media buttons override current playing app and start "stock" player music
Hi guys,
This is my first thread and my english isn't so good, so dont mind me if I make couple of mistakes
Nor try to help me do better next time, thanks
I have one little problem with my Huawei Ascend Mate 7, version L09 with B137 ROM on KitKat 4.4.2
Well it happens when I play (for example) music on soundcloud and lock my phone, music continues playing in background but when i press "power" button to wake screen up and try to pause music, the soundcloud stops playing and the stock music app lauches and plays music from my library,
It happens same when i try to go next / previous track.
I tried :
►* 1 to change between apps :
Spotify, DI.FM radio, youtube, google music, xiaalive app, all of them have media lockscreen option and none of them seem to work on my phone
►*2 Changed default music app under "applications manager" and that havent fixed the issue either.
►*3 Deleted completely "stock player music.apk app" after obtaining root permission and this just made it worse,
Now when I press play button on lockscreen media buttons all my music apps start playing in same time
►*4 Tried to download any lockscreen app from "play store" which has media buttons on, for example (Next, Echo, CM Locker Start Lockscreen,
This can make media buttons to work normaly now, and not interract with stock music player app or any other music application you have installed on your phone, it perfectly focuses media buttons to application thats currently ON and playing music in background, includes art work too
BUT, as always there is something you must risk, and this might be a huge gap
When you download any lockscreen app from "play store", this will change your default huawei lockscreen and it will disable fingerprint option,
So if you want to "throw away" such a option as a fingerprint, this might be a fix for you
I hope someone has time here to try if same bugg happens on your devices and if it had happend and you found a fix which does not mean "avoding" use of fingerprint option, please say how
Highly appreciated for your reply's and advices
Thanks
It's aggravating
Mine does that too. I installed next lockscreen to override but it doesn't allow Fingerprint unlock. Also my soundcloud now playing disappears from notification tray. And youtube soundcloud urls don't open in app. No default choice for soundcloud or browser. And if my phone restarts, my wallpapers and defaults go back to stock including ringtone. And sharing to other apps always is difficult because it picks one and then automatically shares to it. So iI haveto uninstall the app it shares to and reinstall.
