[Q] Set Default Audio Player (Not the stock player) - Asus Transformer TF700

I am trying to figure out how to set a default player for Google Reader on my Transformer Infinity (TF700T). I completely reset the app preferences so there no longer any defaults on any apps, but when I try to launch an mp3 from Reader, the system automatically defaults to the system player and doesn't prompt me for any alternatives. The player's not bad, but it's modal so I can't do anything else when the player is in use. I prefer to use an alternate player so I can do other things while I'm listening. I see the same thing occurring when I launch mp3s from the stock web browser.
Any ideas? I've been looking all over the Interwebz and haven't found anything.

stock music player wont play in background

I have read on other forums where users report that their built-in default music player stops as soon as they switch away from the screen and others say the have no issue. So I guess this is a mysterious bug. It's driving me nuts. Any ideas in trouble shooting this?
no help here
Sorry mine won't turn off no matter what buttons I push. Matter of fact I can't figure out how to truly turn it off, all I get is pause. Without advanced task killer it just sits in the drop down menu, waiting.
I do have the other bug with it though, I can't sort by artist with a lot of music on there. 25gigs, hit artist and it crashes and says not enough memory. There is more than a gig free on both the internal and the external cards. Bummer.
As of today it now plays in the background. If I can figure out a rhyme or reason as to why it wouldn't before I'll report back.

Mine always played in the background. You must be confuse with stock video player which can't play in the background for obvious reasons.

Nope, no confusion. When the program "Music Player" is launched a task manager shows that it is running but if the companion program, (whos name I cant remember) is not also running then the music will not play in the background. The companion program is launched by Music Player when an audio file is started. It has a similar name to Music Player. I believe it is named Sound Player and it has the same icon as Music Player.
If you start a playlist or album or whatever in the stock player and hit the home key it will show the music player now playin in the notification bar (where you can pause or skip songs. If you go back into the program and use the back button all the way out the program closes.

Ok, now I know how you get confused. Sound Player and Music Player are two different apps. No, Music Player does not require Sound Player in memory. Sound Player can't play in background while Music Player can.
The only way to launch Sound Player is to use My Files File Explorer and open mp3 or other sound files directly. On the other hand, Music Player can only be launched from app launcher and it offers following additional features:
1. Support albums and playlists.
2. Support 5.1ch playback on headphones
3. Support playback on the background.

That was some odd notations I made while I had a task manager installed last week. I just tried what you said and you are 100% exactly right! Phweeeh thats a relief. I was worried it would go back to not working later. Thanks for the insight.

My music player shuts off when I launch the camera app. Gingerbread I think you found a legitimate bug.
Does anyone have a replacement for sound player (not music player) that can run in the background? I'm sick of having streaming podcasts end when I need to do something else with my phone.

I think that people who have very large music collections will find that the player shuts off when they go into certain applications. My feeling is that this is Android's internal memory manager subroutine figuring that the audio player is eating up way too much memory, most likely due to the database being loaded the entire time the player is running, and deciding to close that one program rather than ten others to free up the same amount of space. How much memory does your player eat up while running?
The Sound Player is opening instead of the Music Player
On my Vibrant, a .mpga file used to open using the Music Player but now the Sound Player is opening instead. My phone is completely stock, never rooted and no aps downloaded, but I can tell which player is opening: after the player opens, I close it and then press and hold the home key to see which program just opened by noting the first program name in the list of the 6. (The two player's interfaces look almost identical so it is easy to think that the Music Player is opening when the Sound Player is the one actually opening.)
Some possible clues to the cause: I had just used the sound recorder for the first time. It creates .amr files. The .amr files showed up in the Music Player's playlist, but the file wouldn't play; so I browsed directly to the file using Files, clicked on the .amr file and the Sound Player opened the file. But now the Sound Player its opening .mpga files instead of the Music Player and my Music Player's playlist is now empty. (At least that is what I think the sequence of events were.)
I imagine that resetting the phone to factory default would fix it, but I'll have to learn how to backup my address book, web favorites, and goggle map starred items.)
I posted here because I believe I have detected accurately what is happening (maybe not the cause, but the fact that the wrong player is opening), and you experts might be able to suggest a workaround or get the bug fixed.

The mp3 must be in the music folder on the sdcard in order for music player to play in the background.
Not true. I've had music in other folders that got pulled into my music library.
Sent from my Samsung Captivate.

Try force a media scan to see if it fixes your Music Player playlist problem.

Set default music player for bluetooth?

Right now, I'm using jetaudio as my music player.
I connect my phone via bluetooth to player music. But when I press play without opening/playing on jetaudio first, built in default music player plays (Apollo).
So, I disabled default music player. Now, when I press play nothing will happen unless I play on jetaudio first.
It seems when jetaudio gets unloaded from memory, bluetooth control does not work.
Is there anyway to set my phone to open and play with jetaudio when bluetooth control to play music is received?
I tired to set jetaudio as default music player, but could not find such a option. Also, jetaudio is not even on open with list when I open mp3 file.
Most likely, the developer did not implement the functionality for jetAudio to be the default app for music. You might want to request it from them. I've seen this issue in several camera apps, which can be a real pain if you have a physical camera button on your phone.
If the developer won't fix it, then you can fix it yourself with the app HeadsetButton Controller (and you'll add some extra functionality to your Bluetooth headset/device. It's definitely worth the few bucks if you use a Bluetooth headset IMO). The app includes an option to change the default music player, and jetAudio shows up for me as one of the options.
Thanks for the info.
I found also found app called Media Button Router. I will give it a try.

Changing default music player in KK (CyanogenMod 11 or 11S).

Hi All,
Anyone knows how to change default music player on KK Android?
When I click open music player on phone using android wear it opens default music player Google Play. When I freeze that it opens YouTube, when I freeze that Tunein Radio and when I freeze that finally PowerAmp.
However I want to have Youtube and Tunein installed and working. Any suggestions?
Tried the clear defaults but all above mentioned apps have that option greyed out, tired assigning PowerAmp to MP3 files and I can and it now opens when I double click but Wear still opens google one.
Anything else?
Thx for help.

mx player for video playing is not set as default.

while opening videos from gallery, the videos open in native video player instead of opening in mx player. i have mx player installed in my phone.
there is no option to configure the default setting.
please help.
if any body has any solution.
yup, same problem here, so i've just learned to live with the stock player lol
I think it's not possible to change this! Why I have no idea. There are volume problems with the default video player, as in it frequently starts loudest when the media volume is all the way down. Many times I've been in a quiet environment and boom it's loud and I have to scramble to turn it down manually. Also like the video to start fullscreen, which seems to me to be a sensible default behavior.

why don't you open the videos from dcim folder using es explorer or any other file browser?
Same issue with VLC.
any update ??
yeah i also facing the issue ,have you found the solution?
It's something Samsung have done, even if you use a package disabler to freeze the stock video player, it just complains that there are no apps installed able to play videos from the gallery even if MX Player is installed
Sucky move
I even denied permission for the stock video player it still plays the videos in gallery regardless. And you are forced to allow permission to the player to access the file.
If there was anyway we could disable the default video player we could replace it with mxplayer.
The default stock video player is stupid. When you change the brightness it also changes the brightness of the whole phone.

[BUG] or [PROBLEM]: since phone update, MX Player no longer default for browsers HELP

Background: Purchased MX Player Pro. Watch a lot of video in my mobile web browsers Chrome and Dolphin. Often for work (training). Used to be that in either mobile browser, I would browse to the video and when I told it to play MX Player Pro would be the player in which I watched the video, which is critically important and MX Player has video controls (like swiping to go forward and backward) that the system video player doesn't.
This morning my Galaxy Note 5 from Verizon got an update, update N920VVRU2BPG5. Since then, in both browsers on my phone, the video only play in the craptastic system video player. I've looked for a way to change that default and I do not see any options. Again, what I am trying to do is make it be the way it was, with videos played from either of my mobile web browsers Chrome and Dolphin being launched in MX Player by default, not the system video player it seems to have defaulted back to. (To be clear, we are NOT talking about setting a FILE default).
I don't know that this is considered a bug or not, but it's a giant problem.
What's the solution?
Thanks.
This *may* be a a different kind of thing, I've done some more testing in Dolphin and found that when I enable Dolphin Jetpack for Flash, it goes back to working properly. I'm not sure why, my two conjectures are either:
a) MX Player is not in the mix at ALL, but that the recent update swapped my browsing player from Flash based to HTML5 based, and HTML5 video players do not (possibly) support swipe gestures, or
b) By switching Dolphin Jetpack for Flash on, it enable dolphin to properly router the video playback to the MX Player.
Either way, that seems to be the fix for Dolphin, now I have to see if a similar fix can be applied to Mobile Chrome.
Thanks.
@sindyr
If chrome plays on itself it may not possible. If it's forwarded to stock player it might be different issue raised from Samsung's idiotic implementation of default apps.
FYI, in almost all samsung marshmallow devices if you select a app it's always set as default. Unlike LP there won't be a option to select once. Just go to Application Manager > Select Video (If Stock Player is default). From the "Set Defaults" option "Clear Defaults" & set the App Links to always ask. Now, Chrome will ask again to select. But, keep in mind that when you select the any other app it will be the new default.
It's not possible to intercept a html5 video from a browser. Nowadays most of the browsers are implementing their own mediaplayer based on android mediaplayer API.
