[Q][Resolved] MX Player lag when playing video on CM11 (GT-S5360) - MX Player

The tittle says it all. I flashed my sgy with CyanogenMod 11 (kitkat 4.4.4) yesterday. Then, I install MX Player and its codec (Armv6 VFP-for sgy). MX Player is my default media player when I use stock rom and I love it for its performance and functions to play unsupported video file format that internal player cant play. I noticed that CM 11 have problem with something about OMX Codecs (if im right, cant remember, found about it when googling the problem yesterday, but no solution). I tried to play some music videos (mp4 format) with internal player. Yeah, same as stock problem. Can play MPEG-4 but Xvid cant. But this time I cant play x264 mp4 format that previous stock does. Its terribly lag so much. The audio ok. But dont worry though coz I can use MX Player to play that file. Then, i get the same problem, lags. I tried everything, reflash with stock and flash it back with CM 11 rom, use default and custom codec. Still didnt solve the problem. I even tried uninstall the app and reinstall it without the codec. Suprisingly, I can use the app without codec. MX Player didnt ask to install its codec like before when no codecs found. It looks like MX Player use internal decoder as its codec. What the... I even reinstall its codec but it seems like MX Player ignores it. So frustated. Then, im trying to google for any other app that can play various type of video. I found QQPlayer. I wanna give it a try. After install it, still cant play the video. Same problem. But when I look in setting, I found something that the player able to switch between internal decoder and its own decoder. Then, trying to play the video... bla, bla, bla.... and it works. But with a little lag. Not terrible as before. The video and sound is out of sync. Yeah, the same problem when I use QQ Player with stock before using the MX Player. Okay, the real question is, is there any 'switch' for MX Player to choose between its decoder or internal decoder as its codec. I believe that everyone have across the same problem when using CM 11 on sgy. This just QQ Player without any additional codec can play the video with little lag. If MX Player? The problem will solve without any lag and smooth. (maybe, when use its own codec)
P.S. sorry if my english are bad. If any of you didnt understand the question, i can give a bit more detail. Im malaysian and still 15 years old

Both H/W & H/W decoders use your system's inbuuld codecs. So, any issue in codec configuration will lead to issue.
S/W decoder needs powerful CPU. So, it will be obviously lag in your device.
FYI,
AndroidArm6 is community made Project.
They use their self developed libraries since the source codes are not provided by Qualcomm. So, don't expect that it will perform like stock.

now i get it. so, there is no use if there is a 'switch' or not, still the same right? yeah, well, at least i know that. thxx... i decided want to use stock rom now, maybe with some kitkat themes...

MX Player Custom Codec [AC3,DTS,MLP,TRUEHD, etc..]

https://github.com/USBhost/MX_FFmpeg is my modified source where i'm building from
You can download recent codecs here ( GitHub releases ) and 1.35.0-1.8.6 here ( Google Drive ).
Also the XDA download tab is no longer updated as for some reason I cant remove them.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Check which version you need by going to Local Player Settings/Decoder/General
in the Custom Codec tab it will tell you which one is needed (x86,x86_64,neon,neon64/ARMv8).
Note: skip step 1 if your using aio (all in one) version
2. Download the one you need (No need to unzip it)
3. Go back to Local Player Settings/Decoder/General
and tap the Custom Codec tab then select the version you downloaded. DONE!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) :
What's the difference between MX Player Codec Packs on Google Play and Custom Codec?
MX Player Codec Pack not only contains ffmpeg library, It contains many other libraries required to work properly. If you download MX Player from Google Play mostly it will contain the required libraries according to your device architecture. You have to install codec packs from Google Play only if MX Player asks to install. Custom codec is just a modified version of the ffmpeg library used in MX Player. It's modified to include support DTS/Dolby(ac3) audio tracks. So, Codec Pack is mandatory if MX Player asks to install it. Custom Codec is optional and It's required only if you want to play the videos with DTS & Dolby (AC3) audio tacks
Why Custom Codec is not updated even though MX Player is updated?
In Many occasions MX Player may updated without any changes to ffmpeg library. So, Custom Codec will also remain same. The custom codec version required will be directly forced by the player itself. So no need to worry about it. If it's not compatible MX Player will not load at all.
How do I know that my Custom Codec is outdated & needs an update?
Whenever MX Player is updated, It will check the custom codec version loaded. If it's outdated it will show a error message that shows "Custom Codec is out of date. Replace it with the new version". Otherwise there is no need to check this thread for the new Custom Codecs.

What do you meant?
Can you explain the problem you are facing....
Does not play dts audio or any video?
Have you changed the rendering to HW+ or SW not HW...?
In the latest build of MX Player there is no option in preference to enable SW audio with hw playback.
You have to enable SW audio via audio track button if you are using HW rendering instead of HW+ or SW.
I have personally tested neon build and it is working perfectly.
Even my old build also working with the current version.

When I go to the Decoder section, click on the directory with the files, then MX Player restarts... I'm getting a popup. This is with MX Player 1.7.12 on a Nexus 4 (4.2.2 stock rooted):
Popup says...
MX Player:
Unsupported device or component file corrupted. Please uninstall the application completely then reinstall it if the problem persists.
OK
When I hit the OK button, MX Player closes and when I reopen MX Player, the codec files aren't selected anymore in the Decoder section. I've uninstalled and reinstalled MX Player a few times, also tried just Force Stop ing it, and clearing its cache, but the same thing happens. This was all working perfectly on 1.7.11, so I suspect it's something with the new version of MX Player, but I don't know how to tell what it is.

Nexus 7 the same bug..... Please, fix it, thank you!
Same problem
Having the same issue as funtek on my Neuxs 10 with version 1.7.12 of Mxplayer with this codec, both neon and not, tried them both. Same error message.
Your new link that you have posted when you recompiled the codec must have done it. That download is working for me on mxplayer 1.7.12 with no error message or corrupt codec message on the nexus 10. Weird... but very happy, many thanks brother! Must have just been corrupt.

The exact same message as in funtek's post.
I've noticed that the files in the alternative zip are only half the size as the files in op, perhaps the zip was messed up?

Hi, Neon Codec on Galaxy Nexus: MX Player Pro crash after set the custom codec and restart application. Next time launched MX Player, the default codec is used.
Also tested tegra2 codec on Galaxy Tab 10.1 - this one is working fine.

Could you possibly give me a link for a step by step guide for this as I am not too familiar with playing around with codecs....
Thanka
In MX player, go into settings, then decoder, scroll down to Download Custom Codec and it will tell you what one to install for your device, believe its the ARMv7.
Once installed, when you are playing the file, you may have to change the to software decoder, to do this, open the file you want to play and click the H/W button in the top right and select S/W
Hope this helps

[Q] Codecs...

I've come from a lot of Samsung devices, and I decided to jump that boat as soon as I was no longer able to install CM on the Note III.
I have a Samba/FTP server, and I like to stream videos from Samba to my phone, like all the time, like 90% of the videos are h.264 mkv. I used DicePlayer on my Note III to stream, and it was pretty awesome. When I tried this on my OPO, it wouldn't work, presumably because the OPO doesn't have the proper codecs, so I went to the settings in Diceplayer and changed the setting for mkv to play under "software player" instead of default; This worked, but I only got like 2 FPS, literally. So I rolled my eyes and went and got VLC. VLC can't open network folders, so I had to use some other obnoxious app to open the files. This works, but its so crappy compared to Diceplayer, it skips/stops every minute or so.
I am wondering if anyone knows any way that I can get it all working with Diceplayer, or if there is a better app that I can use that works just as well. I don't know much about this kind of stuff, but it seems to me that the OPO doesn't have the proper codecs, and Diceplayer doesn't work well enough with the phone that it can make up for lack of said codecs.
Try using MX player. It runs everything and can use hardware and software codecs. It can also stream from a network though I have never used that feature.

I think I tried that one on my Note, it works, but its buggy, and to stream you have to open it via url which is annoying. But I will try it.
Hi, how it works?
I have problem with playing 720p .mkv movies (for example The.Flash.2014.S01E06.720p.HDTV.X265.mkv ).
It plays video slower than audio ( there is one second of audio freeze every five seconds). I have tried to install additional codecs, but it didn't help. It plays on SW decoder, HW/HW+ shows only error and switch to SW.
Also try to install VLC player, but it didn't work too.
480p mkv files are played ok, even via WiFi.
OPO and MX player are actual, phone isn't rooted.
Thanks for any advice
Install the necessary codecs. http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/mx-player-custom-codec-dts-support-t2156254
That should fix any codec issues.

[Q] [CM12S] MX Player not playing in H/W+ anymore

Hello,
Since I have upgraded to Cyanogen OS 12S - or CM12S, as you prefer - MX Player is not able to play movies with H/W+ decoding.
I also noticed a bigger drain in battery over time with this combination (only H/W and CM12S).
Does anyone knows why is this happening?
Does anyone know how to fix it?
I also noticed that, with this update, playback of H.265 is much smoother now.
Thank you in advance.
I have the same issue
Does anyone have an answer for this? It use to work fine in CM11S
Same issue, but worse.
Got the same issue. But now HW stopped working as well. (Including recorded video playback from gallery). Only MX player SW works.
Don't know if it's related to xposed. Planning to do a system upgrade again and check.

I updated and checked, it still didn't work. But HW worked after I disabled developer tools and enabled it back. However, HW+ is still not working.
I could only get S/W working in CM12S.
I'm running CM12.1 nightly now and H/W works, but still no H/W+
I have same problem mx player will not play many vids it used to play easily online especially 3gp and i have the backup players for mx player also they dont help just does loading and wont play all decoders dont work. would somebody please tell me what to do or mx player please fix the decoder issues
From what I read, the problem is not with MX Player, but with Android Media Library in COS12 - some changes that are incompatible with MX so we have to wait if it's fixed in COS12.1.

MX Player 1.8.21 for x86 not recognizing external codec

Hi all,
Having a problem with MX player on an x86 tablet -- I upgraded from 1.7.40 to 1.8.21, and it was a mistake.
MX player 1.8.21 does not recognize the external x86 custom codec I downloaded from xda-developers.com (keeps telling me it wants the 1.8.6 x86 codec), nor does it seem satisfied with the x86 codec downloaded from the play store (settings -> decoder tells me that a custom codec is not in use). Playback is no longer smooth, it is jerky and unwatachable.
I tried to go back to 1.7.40 by downloading the .apk from the MX player website archives, but that doesn't work -- when I run it, it says I need a codec and redirects me to the play store, where the only option is the x86 codec for 1.8.21 which is not recognized by MX player 1.7.40. Even though I have the original x86 codec for 1.7.40, there is no way to get to the settings menu to direct it to the external codec.
So, what do I do to get back to a working MX player? Can I get 1.8.21 to recognize the x86 codec? Or how do I get back to 1.7.40?
Thanks!

I can answer most of my own questions -- it turns out the "mx_x86.zip" from the download section is version 1.9.0 (I didn't notice the "Version information" said 1.9.0, I saw the "currently 1.8.6.1 is named 1.8.6 because MX player expects 1.8.6" above that). I found the correct download in the Google drive link, old version.
However, even with the x86 codec, 1.8.21 still plays video files terribly -- jerky and stuttering.
I found a version of 1.7.40 on apkmirror that didn't automatically direct me to the play store, and it recognized my original 1.7.32.rev1 x86 driver. Now, the playback is smooth.
Also, another thing I've noticed is that subtitle rendering is MUCH worse under 1.8.21 than 1.7.40 -- karoke effects cause the subtitles to be "static" unless "enable SSA acceleration" is checked, but then it looks like the subtitles are rendered to the original video resolution and then scaled with the video to the current window size. This is OK for 720p scaled to 1080p (I have a 1920 x 1200 display tablet), but for DVD resolution (480p) it causes the subtitles to be fuzzy.

Ok, looking at bug reporting thread now. Do you also want info on the 1.7.40 install that works?
I'd also have to provide the video file -- it's a 1.27GB file, any recommendations on how to send it to you?
