[Q] What launcher and lock screen do you use? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got the Z3 and so far love this phone! upgraded from a HTC m7 and this phone is just so much smoother and better looking. However I do miss the speakers and text app on the HTC but I can live without it.
I was wondering what launcher and lock screen app you guys prefer to use? The stock launcher is ok but it just offers so few options and don't get me started on the lock screen lol no options... any recommendations? currently running nova launcher but looking for a quality lock screen.
Also the sms app is def not the best. Any recommendations in that department?
Let the answers flow! lol

I think i'll watch this thread.
i miss the beautiful T-mobile lockscreen of Z3 (netherlands? )
i thought that was the stock lockscreen and i lost it when I flashed Italy Generic firmware (since i live in italy).
If possibile, can you post the name of APK
Thanks!

Nova launcher.. Lockscreen is stock.

Both stock. I like the Sony UI

Launcher: Nova Launcher
Lock Screen: Stock
SMS: Textra

Launcher > Nove Prime
LS > AcDisplay
SMS > Textra (cuz it supports GIFS)
Music > Shuttle
Video > MX Player (UI needs work but the player is unmatched)

Thanks for mentioning the AcDisplay lockscreen, i just tried it out myself and like it. I also like the original lockscreen, but it's a little too static, the unlock animation is what i really dig. I remember one year ago, when i got my One M7, and searched for custom lockscreens.. Very hard to find anything useful.

Everything stock... no need to change.

I use the Nokia launcher from the play store. I personally find it to be the best for me

Stock Home, no pun intended, its simple and elegant, I like the ability custom arrange (drag and drop) in my app drawer which lot of third party ones don't allow
Stock lock screen as well.

ADW.Launcher Android App VS laucher Pro

ADW.Launcher. Open source home replacement app. Features: Customizable desktop previews, Customizable application drawer (old one or iphone/galaxy one), Customizable drag drop action buttons, Unveil the Dockbar flicking-up the app-drawer button and drop another 6 shortcuts/folders/apps! Check the site for more information or meet me on xda! (For Android version 2.0 and higher)
Laucher pro Features:
LauncherPro Android App in a home screen replacement app that is a fork from the stock launcher from Android 2.1 (Eclair). By default you have 3 home screens which is configurable to up to 7 in the Settings menu. Along the lower section are convenient icons with quick links to Phone, Contacts, Android Apps Launcher Drawer, Messaging, and Browser apps. The latest release added numbered notification icons for new text messages, missed calls and new emails. When you open the Android Apps launcher drawer, apps are presented similar to Android 2.1 launcher only difference is the cool 3D roll effect is missing however LauncherPro features a faster and much smoother scroll… convenient when you have a lot of apps like myself!
Which one do you like?
ADW for me, works flawlessly.
i just used the ADW and so far so good
LauncherPro Plus. Resizable widgets and all the settings that really matter, including the scrollable dock bar...pure smooth awesomeness.
LauncherPro. I love the customizable dock with built-in notification counters.
ADW.. open source. customizable look, customizable dock, hidden dock, customizable widget sizes, it's fast and it's free :]

To any user who likes a phone to be used as intended:
-zero redraws
-zero memory hogging widgets/usage...
-fluid/fast responsiveness
ADW is the only choice period.
I've used Launcher Pro Plus (bought and paid)
and love the widgets he has created...
However when using the:
-people
-twitter
-sms
-calendar widgets
(in addition to)
weather widget donate
music widget
pandora widget
google search widget
power setting widget
Launcher Pro Plus will inevitably bring my phone's memory to
35MB, and well, you know the rest.
ADW is the best, most stable launcher.
Launcher Pro Plus... for me.. takes all the good widgets out of Sense..
By far the best IMHO
ADW for me too.
Love ADW...looks great and works like a charm for me.

LauncherPro is the clear winner, at least on older devices such as my HTC Hero.
ADW's performance is remarkably poor on my phone, while LauncherPro is completely smooth. Having said that, I don't use too many fancy widgets.
It is a shame LauncherPro isn't open source though. I wish it was.

What's the big deal of open source? Why is it a shame? I seriously don't get it.
ADW is deffinently more stable on my HTC Incredible BUT I lopve the customization that i get with LP....When I want my phone to be fast I use ADW...When I want my phone to be sleek and nice looking to show off my phone to my friends I use LP.

1) Open Source means (if you've got the dev chops) you can easily get at the code and work it to how you like.
2) There's substantial savings with buying open source...
Previously, I am big supporter of ADW.Launcher.
Now I am big big supporter of LauncherPro Plus.
LauncherPro Plus is much much rock than ADW.Launcher especially on speed, user friendly, stability and customization.
LauncherPro Plus even though I don't use the widgets.
Launcher Pro Plus
I do use the People, Messaging, and Twitter widget. being able to resize any widget is a huge benefit.
The additional row on the home screens is a big plus to me too.
I found that most of my memory based issues were resolved by setting it to the low memory profile. No real loss of function and no more force closing.
I find ADW a lot limited compared to LP, ok its grand if you want a fast phone they say use ADW, but why not reduce the widgets/look of LP, it is the more customizable launcher, hence why I find it better
LP+... seems smoother and simpler

Xperia Tablet Z - Post your Home Screen with Relevant Details

As the thread says, share your homescreen with everyone. Also, include instructions as to how you achieved it, i.e.
- which launcher
- share the wallpaper
- share the widgets you're using
I will share mine next week as soon as I get the tablet.
Use SCREEN MAKER App to make it look like the screenshot is actually a picture of your device itself.
I'd love to see a screenshot of Nova Launcher running on the Xperia Z.

Nova Launcher Prime. Hopefully there will be a way to flash CM or any other AOSP based rom on the Wifi version as I can't stand the Honeycomb like nav buttons and all the Sony bloatware. Tried to replace most of the Sony apps with proper stock Android apps, and thankfully Nova Launcher let's me hide all the things I don't need.
Chose this tablet because of the unavailability of the Nexus 10 over here, the weight of the tablet, and the (wrong) assumption this tablet would be easy to turn into a "pseudo-Nexus" because of Sony's involvement in AOSP.
So hopefully some clever devs will find a way soon.
edit: oh sorry, the widgets:

That's probably because Dashclock needs Android 4.2.2, and the stock Sony firmware is on 4.1 I believe

Thanks, for this relevant answer, will wait until Sony update its rom to 4.2.2,
Stock Sony XPERIA Launcher (I haven't tried the DoCoMo launcher), panels 1 to 5.
Panel 1 is at the extreme end for stuff I don't pay attention to so much, i.e. Socialife.
Panel 2 is a blank panel, so that I can just enjoy the wallpaper, or, well, when I want a blank panel.
Panel 3, central home panel, has the information I generally look for, plus the most commonly accessed shortcuts/a music player widget.
Panel 4, extended weather info only, with time.
Panel 5, full-size music player.
This sort of layout has been sort of traditional for me, and I use some variation of it on all my Android devices.
I use a combination of Minimalistic Text, Sony's stock widgets and Poweramp, while weather is provided by 1Weather's widget.
I'm not too fancy or anything though I suppose I ought to spend time properly doing something unusual and nice, given the XPERIA is hardly a usual tablet.
Wallpaper is via the Music Visualizer app, with a self-edited image for an idle wallpaper. It'll change to visualizer bars when sound plays above a certain volume threshold (i.e. the sound of system clicks doesn't trigger it).
I have PowerToggles on the system bar and Realtime Task Manager on the Small Apps shortcut. I'm honestly a fan of the single-system bar layout. I absolutely abhor the idea of having two on-screen bars consuming screen space.
I might replace the Socialife widgets with Flipboard's or something, because they constantly blank themselves needing a refresh, and sometimes it just seems that they're sluggish.
I love magancete's look, it's very unique!
Just get it today & current look for my Sony Xperia Tablet Z.

alternate android wear launcher

Im new to xda and i just wanted to share something i found about android wear.
i was installing various android launchers on my LG G watch with no luck (when i selected them they said they quit unexpectedly)
i tried zeam launcher, ADW launcher, holo launcher, go launcher and the stock motoactv launcher (i did try all of these on my motoactv to test if they work on a small screen and on my phone to test if they support lollipop and they worked)
then i found a launcher called barebone launcher and it worked however because it JUST launches apps (no widgets, no custom wallpapers) that's why it doesn't crash.
video - watch?v=4g2PqDTeglw (paste in URL bar after YouTube because im not allowed to share links yet or search lg g watch with barebone launcher on youtube)
Sorry if this post is in the wrong place i just wanted to share a working normal android launcher on android wear
Cool

Well, this just provides me a good headstart with my just received LG G Watch. Should try on the barebone launcher as mentioned.
I tried a few alternate launchers and found it drains my battery pretty quick since they run constantly. I ended up just getting used to the stock launcher.
If you install purifiy (via adb) it kills background apps automatically saving the battery (you need to go into purifiys settings and add 3rd party watch faces to the ignore list

I use google now launcher, Only issue is sometimes after a reboot the colour OS launcher kicks in as default.
Make sure you go into app management and default apps and select your preffered launcher as default. IMO, it's actually a better way to do it than other phones where you just start the launcher and wait for the OS to ask which one is to be default.
I also use Smart Launcher Pro on both my phones, and my wife's. I regularly try different launchers but always come back to SL Pro. It's elegantly simple but hiding some pretty good customisation tweaks and that app drawer is the best I've ever seen.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/dev?id=8663477108975404679
I installed Ubuntu theme as that is how to get the nicer icons in the app drawer tabs.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ginlemon.sltheme.ubuntu
In my Find 7 I also have the MIUI Icon pack applied to homescreen and app grid.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ginlemon.sltheme.miui.transparent
For a nice clock I have Digital Clock Widget Xperia.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.digitalclockwidget2
Set a nice wallpaper (I have a bright Lollipop one).
The phone looks stylish and well integrated with theming, like it came that way from Oppo.
If you must use the ColorOS launcher, you can install an app drawer app from Google Play instead of having to sort through pages of homescreens with a bunch of icons and folders.
I have this one in my oppo Find 7 for the rare times when I use the ColorOS launcher.

Simple, small and has barebones permission needs.

Launcher

About to pick up my P9 (yay!)
Are you guys sticking with EMUI or using a custom Launcher?
I'm currently rocking a Nexus 6 and love stock Android so am thinking of going with Google Now Launcher.
What do you lot use?
I'm sticking with EMUIs launcher as I like it and that it allows me to hide any annoying bloat apps that I cant uninstall as I don't wish to void warranty yet to remove them. I like googles launcher but all the apps will be shown.
To change default launcher when you get your phone:
1. settings
2. apps
3. advanced
4. default app settings
5. launcher
6. select google launcher to change
Personally its up to you to decide whether you like EMUI and want to keep using its' launcher or whether to replace it.
Thanks.
I've already started using Google Now. I agre, it is annoying that I can't yet remove the Huawei apps I don't want but I guess for now I can deal with that.
EMUI is nice but coming from my Nexus 6 I just want that stock feel. Haven't removed the squared/rounded app icon edges yet.
So far though LOVING this device.
I prefer Google now. I ran into a problem with it though with regards to icons not changing if I selected a new theme.
To override this go to settings > apps > Google app > storage > manage space > clear launcher data will allow the icons to be changed as clearing data/cache of Google now launcher did not seem to do the trick.
I've gone back to EMUI.
I noticed (maybe you can test this too) that when listening to music through my headphones, if I pressed the home button (or tapped on any icons) the music would skip and it ALWAYS did it.
It doesn't do it when using EMUI as the launcher.
I'm using Nova as it get's close to the stock Google Now launcher but still have personnalisation options like gestures, etc
