Launcher - Huawei P9 Guides, News, & Discussion

About to pick up my P9 (yay!)
Are you guys sticking with EMUI or using a custom Launcher?
I'm currently rocking a Nexus 6 and love stock Android so am thinking of going with Google Now Launcher.
What do you lot use?

I'm sticking with EMUIs launcher as I like it and that it allows me to hide any annoying bloat apps that I cant uninstall as I don't wish to void warranty yet to remove them. I like googles launcher but all the apps will be shown.
To change default launcher when you get your phone:
1. settings
2. apps
3. advanced
4. default app settings
5. launcher
6. select google launcher to change
Personally its up to you to decide whether you like EMUI and want to keep using its' launcher or whether to replace it.

Thanks.
I've already started using Google Now. I agre, it is annoying that I can't yet remove the Huawei apps I don't want but I guess for now I can deal with that.
EMUI is nice but coming from my Nexus 6 I just want that stock feel. Haven't removed the squared/rounded app icon edges yet.
So far though LOVING this device.

I prefer Google now. I ran into a problem with it though with regards to icons not changing if I selected a new theme.
To override this go to settings > apps > Google app > storage > manage space > clear launcher data will allow the icons to be changed as clearing data/cache of Google now launcher did not seem to do the trick.

I've gone back to EMUI.
I noticed (maybe you can test this too) that when listening to music through my headphones, if I pressed the home button (or tapped on any icons) the music would skip and it ALWAYS did it.
It doesn't do it when using EMUI as the launcher.

I'm using Nova as it get's close to the stock Google Now launcher but still have personnalisation options like gestures, etc

Super D and nexus launcher

I think when given the option to use regular home launcher or Nexus launcher in super D, i might have ticket the always use this option box, and stuck with the original cupcake version. Is there any way i can choose, or go back that dialog box so i can pick which launcher i want to use on start up between stock and nexus launcher?
Search is your friend.
Also manage your apps and wipe defaults for your nexus launcher.
go to settings applications/manage applications then look for the home app and then click clear defaults then press home button and you should have the option to chose either the regular or nexus launcher

changing apps menu

hi guys,
i have nexus 5 with 6.0.1 android version, with this new version of android, the apps menu scrolling down or up, i want to change it by sliding right or left, thanks
it's impossible ?
Using the stock launcher, I'm not sure if it's possible or not. However, using a third party launcher like nova or go will allow you to change the app drawer behavior, among many other settings.

We hate warez mate, it's a disrespect towards the work of developers.

Maybe instead of trying to cheat the developer, you pay them if you find it's what you want... Cracks and other Warez/pirate activities are forbidden here regardless of what you've heard.
If you don't want to pay, look for alternatives, Google turns up no shortage of options like iLauncher, Blaze, Launcher for 7 & Plus, or how to configure Nova/Action and other mainstream browsers so they don't have an app drawer.
You could pay for it then have two hours to see if you like it and return if you don't. That's probably what I like most about Google Play vs iOS App Store.
EDIT: I would also like to echo what's been said here. Don't do warez, not only is it unfair to devs but it is also potentially dangerous to your device if you download a "cracked" APK that was actually loaded with malware. So even for that reason alone, don't do it.

What bout zenUI? you can use it with/with out app drawer.:victory:
Try ASAP launcher, ap15 launcher and Edge launcher if you wanna reach your apps quickly
I couldn't adjust with the RROreo's default Trebuchet launcher and coming from MIUI, it was hard to settle with any other fancy launchers.
Tried every launchers available in the internet, that was similar to MIUI stock launcher. The MIUI Launcher suggested above is the close one in replicating the stock MIUI. However, I'd strongly advice against it, as it has some serious bugs. It duplicates app icons randomly, and you only uninstall the apps, can't remove the duplicate icons. It gets worse when system apps icons are duplicated.
I'd suggest this.
1. Install Nova and make it the default launcher(free version will do),
2. Create shortcuts of all apps on the home screen,
3. Enable 'Add icon to Home screen' in Playstore settings. (If you're in Oreo or can't see this settings in Playstore, Go to Nova Settings> Desktop and you'll see this option at the bottom of the list.)
4. Now hold the app drawer icon to remove.
I prefer to drag it to home screen and place it in a location or folder that is usually overlooked. I do this because, without the app drawer icon, uninstalling apps (especially when installed from APKs) would be a hassle, since it’s just a shortcut we are seeing in the Nova Homescreen. Adding the app drawer to the home screen (I know this is against the original goal in a sense, but this is very much different from having the app drawer in the dock), helps in uninstalling apps in ease.
Necrobumping because this thread comes up if you look up "Android launcher with no drawer".
After years of struggle, someone had finally made a good launcher with no drawer. Enter Lawndesk, a fork of Lawnchair without the app drawer. It supports modem functions of stock Android launcher, namely adaptive icons.

Adding an "App Drawer" icon to the default Pixel Launcher

Hi all,
I would love the ability to be able to add a simple "All Apps" icon in the center of the dock like the old GEL launcher had. I know that Nova and Action Launcher can do this, but I like the barebones aspect of the Pixel launcher and would like to continue using that. Does anyone know if this is possible? I know there used to be an application in the play store that would add this shortcut to the pixel launcher last year, but that app appears to have disappeared. (I know there are some third party app launchers in the play store, but none of them are blazingly fast)
Only with launcher, sry mate
Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
Best workaround I could find, which is not really perfect but hey see screenshot
Download Nova launcher but don't set it as default. On pixel launcher, add a widget -> Nova action -> app drawer
You may have some few times you come back through Nova homepage this way when pressing home. Give it a try your self.
If I have some time I could see if there's a better way to do it by properly calling the app drawer..
So -- you can make Nova as bare bones as you want to. Any particular reason why you don't want to use Nova, configured to look and feel just like the Pixel launcher? It seems like the best option for what you want.
I know it doesn't replace a button, but tapping the arrow above the dock takes you to app drawer. How do you feel about this?

GUIDE: Use Android 10 Stock Recent Apps Screen w/3rd Party Home Launcher

I use Square Launcher 2 but I imagine this works with any launcher. Also tested with lawn chair launcher, a pixel launcher immigration. I'm using a Verizon Pixel 2 XL, stock ota with a locked bootloader and no-root on the latest version of Android 10.
You'll need 3 button navigation enabled, I haven't tested any other navbar setup.
You'll need SD Maid Pro or a way to clear system cache files, normally inaccessible without root.
-----
1) Install the 3rd party launcher of your choice and set it as the default so you return to it when the home button is pressed.
2) Press the recent button to confirm you can't view the 5 icons and Google search bar found in the stock Pixel/Q Launcher Recent Apps screen. If you see the 5 icon choices and Google search bar when you view the recent apps screen, try this again. By default Android 10 doesn't allow the use of the Pixel/Q stock recent apps screen when using 3rd party launchers.
3) Run SD Maid Pro (an app I highly recommend). Navigate to SD Maid Pro Settings, App Cleaner, checkbox: include system apps, show inaccessible items, accessibility services (see screenshot).
4) Run the app cleaner and let it cycle through the various system app caches and clean up your device. You should have your entire screen greyed out with a transparent SD maid logo animation going.
5) Once completed navigate to your phone settings default launcher selection screen (see screenshot). Confirm that neither the Pixel Launcher or your preferred 3rd party app is selected.
You've done it!
6) Testing:
a) Pressing the home button will now return you to your 3rd party launcher
b) Pressing the recent apps/overview button on the navbar will now display the pixel/q launcher recent apps screen, which contains 5 icons and a google search bar at the bottom.

Anyone tested it?
Just tried with Action Launcher on Android 10 AOSP and it didn't worked
After cleaning apps, Action Launcher is still selected as the default launcher.
