Yep . I have the same issue. Maybe it has to do with xposed. Anyway I switched to CNN app

Xposed is actually a really difficult concept for me . its a way to modify your phone in really cool ways . first you need the xposed app which needs root . then it installs the xposed framework . there is where the theory gets really difficult to understand .
Anyway then you reboot and then you will have the xposed frame work installed where you will be able to find modules and start having fun. Careful though make sure you are well backed up before you do it . I honestly think xposed is not for every one that's starting. But we are all here for noobs and glad to help to try to maximize your experience with the phone. Make sure you don't get offended by rude answers just take what you need and ignore those who waste your time

I appreciate it. I've never rooted but I may give it a go with the Edge. This Yahoo ticker is really irritating, and you're the only other person I've come across with the same issue. Peace!

I don't use the Yahoo ticker, but my messaging app notifications fly by too quickly. I can't even read them. It would be nice to be able to control scroll speed and the length of time it actually shows on the panel. Right now they might as well just throw a missed notification icon up there with as fast as it disappears.

If you have turned your animation scales all the way to 0 in the developer options, it produces this super fast scroll. Turn them to 0.5x and they will scroll by as they should. I had this problem when I 1st got the phone and was doing my normal tweaks to it.

The power button on my N1 has been giving me fits, and given the number of people I've read about with "dead" power buttons, I think mine is going out so I'm trying to preserve it as long as possible.
I enabled trackball wake (using CM6) which takes care of 1/2 the equation, but I need a good lockscreen app (just something to make the phone go to sleep). I found one in the market called Lock Screen Enabler, but it's not a "true" lockscreen app and it's very buggy, causing all sorts of problems for me.
I've been a web developer for 8 years and recently got into Android development (which I hope to be doing full-time soon), so I thought I'd just code a quick app for personal use in 5 minutes.
The problem, however, is that the DEVICE_POWER permission is needed in order to call goToSleep() and from what I've read so far from other online posts, this permission is only granted to native system applications.
Since my phone is rooted, I even tried granting my application SU privileges, but that doesnt seem to work either.
So, my question boils down to how do I grant my application DEVICE_POWER permission? I figure if anyone out there knows the answer, it's going to be someone on XDA as this place is full of geniuses. Thanks in advance!!
UPDATE: I've attached the finished app. Made this for personal use but if anyone wants to use it they are welcome to. My only gripe about it right now is the "screen flicker" that happens when you launch it because it's trying to launch an app that immediately locks the screen and finishes itself. If I can figure out how to get the app to launch in a smaller window maybe I can minimize the size to reduce the screen flicker. But for now, this works and I can set it to launch when I click the clock on Fancy Widget, so I'm happy. Thanks again to everyone who offered answers to my questions. Just another reason why I love the Android development community!!

Awesome, thx! Still would like to know how they got that prompt to show that basically made the application an Administrator app. Seems like the missing piece I need to complete my own

It seems that you'll need to add the application as a device administrator. There seems to be some decent information half way down this page under Device policy manager: Link.
I'd be interested in using this application as I can't change the icon of my previously mentioned widget.
Edit: More information here as well: Link.

I will probably still go ahead and create one. I like how with FancyWidget you can set it so clicking the clock will launch an app. Unfortunately it doesn't work with widgets, so I need an extra icon on my home screen just to lock it. If you have an icon you'd like me to use, feel free to share and I'll put it in
And thx for the info!!
I would be happy with any icon to be honest, I just don't like the lock screen widget one Good luck bud

Good call. Thx. However, I also came up with a work-around for ppl who are just as lazy as myself. There are 2 icons in the launcher. The first will lock the screen (once you enable the app as a device admin). The second will disable the app as a device admin, allowing you to uninstall at your will.
I really intended for this app to be for personal use, but if anyone wants it I'll put it up here for you to download. If you'd rather I remove the second launcher icon and just let you to disable it through Security settings, I will also do this (as really, I don't plan on uninstalling any time soon so this is fine for myself).
Thanks to everyone who helped out!!!

Great, works perfect on MIUI 0.9.30
Does the job perfectly! I especially like how it runs as an app so I can change the icon
You're a lifesaver, or should I say power button saver
Thanks so much.
I tried to develop something similar before but got stuck. Saved me some time!
Thanks for creating such useful app for my N1. My power bt is fine, but I would like to preserve it to powering up/down the phone.
BTW, I also downloaded Lock Screen Widget to test it out. Is it possible that you can make your app to shut off the screen smoother, like LSW? I like it you set it up as an app, which is super useful for me set up as a gesture swipe on my LauncherPro dock icons.
Thanks again and keep up your good work!
Thanks again, your app is really great. But could you add a option to map it to the search button (long press) please?
Thank you!
EyeRelax is a quick and easy way to keep your eyes healthy. Taking a break every so often while using your phone is important and can help prevent eye strain, and EyeRelax lets you do just that. Specify how long you want your breaks to be, and how far apart they are, hit the start button, and EyeRelax will give you a heads up when it's time to take a break. If you want to take an early break, just shut off your screen and it will be automatically recognized by EyeRelax. A progress bar runs discreetly in your notifications for a convenient way to check how long you have. EyeRelax runs quietly in the background, allowing you to get your work done until it's time to rest your eyes.

I couldn't even focus the image at this distance.
Sounds useful! Is there any noticeable battery drain?
Someone needs to create an app like this for Xposed!
Looks great! How does it warn you when you're near the 30 minute mark? Will it be possible to play a sound when the timer is at 30 minutes / just before it goes off?
Edit: It didn't load the images correctly for me, so now i see that there will be a popup window.

The app will vibrate and post a notification 30 seconds before break and show the dialog when it's time for a break.
I've a suggestion for a future build... A "computer" option, where the timer can run in the background, and then give a notification after 30 minutes, then again after the 30-second break. (Or whatever time values one might change it to). For those of us that spend lengthy amounts of time staring at a large computer screen.
This app has potential, keep up the good work.

This, I actually thought I would want it for this then arrived to see it was for using mobile device. Handy for many but myself I don't spend that much continuous time staring at phone, usually gets broken up with breaks cause I am mobile while using it thus forced breaks. Computer is a problem for long stretches no breaks here though.
Now thats very useful app. :good:

Hello!
First I'd like to say that I am new to the forums, even though I spent a good amount of time lurking around and reading all of the awesome articles of root customization!
Anyways, I tried to research this on my own before I made a thread to avoid clutter and repeats but I can't seem to find a good answer, so I thought I'd ask!
(If I posted this in the wrong forum, sorry!)
So what I have is an AT&T Note 3 rooted with towelroot (I'm still new at this so I can't say if this is "complete root"...?) running on NOVA Launcher.
I've been trying to customize my lock screen while secure but I can't seem to find a simple app for that.... Now mind you, I've tried WidgetLocker Lockscreen by TeslaCoil Software and I just didn't like any of the options it had... I liked the fact that I could add my "iHeartRadio" and Shazam widget without having to unlock my phone but I didn't like how it also made my phone feel "cluttered" if that makes any sense to anyone. Bottom line is, I didn't like it. (even though I paid the $5 for it... ._." )
So anywhoooo, I was wondering if you guys/gals had any recommendations for me? i've tried googling and came up short... and I've also searched the forums coming up with nothing.... Please let me know!
Sorry again if I may come off as unclear.

Thanks! Hella noob question but with no user interface, how can I customize the widgets I want in my lock screen? I have security to swype and have "multiple widgets" activated. I soft reboot my phone when I installed it.
Thanks for the help!

I figured the knowledgeable people here could point me to apps (that require root or not) that do things that xposed used to do but now can't:
•Slide on notification bar for brightness (not an actual slider just able to slide)
•lockscreen app targets
•edit quick toggles in any way shape or form
•edit nav bar height
•change recents button into a menu button and remove three dot menus
•advanced power menu options
any info is appreciated!

I wouldn't say it's useless. The developer has stated if he can find a way to bring it to Lollipop, that he will. Rather it's just unusable for now.

Its going to take time to get get custom roms and features rolling
Users need to stop with the [Request] threads. You want something bad enough, learn to dev and make it happen. MOD EDITED - BE RESPECTFUL!!!
Most of the things you mentioned have to be a system modification not an app. Check out the lollipop custom ROMs, some of them have a few of the features you desire. It might be a few months to get Xposed working if possible even. You could always revert to 4.4.4 too.

Perhaps you can share the apps you found so far? Im following your thread bro.
Xposed is just so good, it became a must in my phone. I want so many features from it and its modules too
I search for xposed at least 3 times per day and i didnt find any useful information but a reply of rov89 a month ago saying it was going to be hard to merge xposed to lollipop because of new ART runtime. So i find this post very useful as we can share temporary patches until xposed is released for lollipop.
* Intelli3G: Your internet is set to EDGE while phone is locked, but when you unlock it you get 3G/4G (until you lock)
* Lots of gravitybox features:
-change battery icon and clock position in the info bar ( percentage + circle battery!)
-flash activated when you pulse the lockscreen for 3secs (stupid ye but very useful for me)
* Burnt toast: that was so cool (show app icon in toast--> superSU permissions)
*App settings: so i can put safari in immersive mode
Cant remember more at the moment but if you know any app with similar features post them here please
For battery percent:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.kroegerama.android4batpercent
On Lollipop the percentage is visible even with full battery.
You know if Xposed doesn't come back I am kinda okay with it. Towards the end of Kitkat it seemed like any really useful app that came out needed Xposed to run. It was like as if app creators ran straight towards Xposed instead of using different methods. I know for some things you needed to be able to hack further than root allows but I would guess that a few Xposed modules could have achieved the same result through different means. I'm probably wrong though.
As well intentioned as this thread was, it still got almost completely derailed... Shame.
One feature I'm looking forward to is customizing the slides on Lock screen.
Dialer and camera shortcuts are great but I am so spoiled now.

well if u know an app which works fluently without takin up much ram please tell me. or any other ways to manage this?
and yes I've googled hours but without any results.. that's why I'm askin here on the pro forum for android development.

Everybody wants to be spoon-fed around here without doing any kind of logical searching.
Your question is how to change CRT screen off animation, correct?
So......
I did a Google search for exactly that question:
"How to change CRT screen off animation android"
My results for this search are in the first screenshot attached to this post, do you see what is at the very top, the very first result on the page?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
I went a step further and did a Google search for:
"How to manually change CRT screen off animation android"
My results are the in the second screenshot attached to this post.
Do you see what is at the very top, you see Screen Lock on the left and Screen Off and Lock on the right?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iglint.android.screenlock
How hard would it have been for you to do those same searches?
You couldn't have done much searching or searched very hard, otherwise, you would have easily found these exact results for yourself. But instead, you wanted someone to do the thinking and the searching for you, that isn't what we do here, we help, but we encourage members to do their own searching, it's even in the forum rules here, I'll bet you didn't even read that part, did you?
Neither of those apps work.
