Hello
I run stock rom with twrp
I download the update and then i tap to install it
It reboot my phone into recovery mode without updating it
Then i reboot my phone and i realize that the update was lost
It says me that my phone is updated(thats not true)
What can i do?
Maybe i can flash the update because i downloaded it and probably it is somewhere in my device?
Please help me
Thanks
Assuming you are rooted (since you mentioned TWRP), you cannot install updates to Lollipop - because your system partition is modified. You will need to be completely stock if you want to take OTA.
P.S. The update is 5.0.1, not 5.1
I was in the same condition, I flashed a stock lollipo android 5 with is home kernel, no root and with unlocked bootloader but the result is not changing. When the 5.1 update pop appears I confirm dowbload, I confirm installation but when reboot in recovery a very fast fake installation runs on error and then stop on home twrp immage.
Please any flashable pure stock will probably be easier.
Thanks
Sorry jj14 I confirm update is 5.0.1

Backup your apps and other files on your phone and just flash the 5.0.1 factory image, reroot and restore your user apps and you`re done.
Could you please upload a stock .zip file 5.0.1 that I could flash from recovery??

People i know haven't even unlocked their bootloader
But can't update?
me too, have the same problem.
I'll just flash the 4.4.4 EU image for my XT1032...
and I'll do the same thing for when lollipop comes around
Its look like you must reset factory then direct updating your firmware..
have you unroot and relocked your bootloader?
Try restoring to stock: Flash 4.4.3, go to stock recovery and try to make the update search, if this is not working do a clean flash (wipe cache+userdata) and try to update, some time ago i noticed that cannot update the firmware of my 4.4.2 because the cmw recovery, then wiped cache and intalled stock recovery and everything went fine
To receive OTA updates device should be only on stock recovery no cmw, no twrp. Try to install stock recovery with fresh stock rom, and remember to enable any disabled system apps (if any) like Motorola services, Motorola OTA, then only you will able to receive and install updates....
You need the stock recovery
Hello. I am reverting my XT1032 to stock in preparation for the update. Does the recovery need to be resotred to stock as well or can I leave the clockworkmod recovery on?
Thanks
Yes
Stock means all is stock, even the recovery. If you leave unlocked bootloader, you can change back to cwm later.
Stock firmware
Stock recovery
No root
No system apps uninstalled or freezed
Thats what you need to succesfully OTA to Lollipop. :highfive:
Hello
I have my moto G with root and custom recovery, what are the steps to follow to get all way back to stock ?
1. Unroot.
2. Uninstall xposed if you have it
3. Flash stock recovery.
4. Make sure you have the stock ROM installed. (Unlocked bootloader is fine)
5. Initiate ota
will i be able to return to kitkat after upgrading, at any time? no bootloader conflicts, or anything?
Once you upgrade to lollipop you most likely cannot downgrade to KitKat again since the boot loader will not accept it any longer.

Regarding this guide it isn't necessary to have the rom 'unmodified' i removed a few system apps from /system. is this causing a failure as well or do i have not all XPosed removed properly ?
Thanks for reply.
Do i have any alternative option than complete reflash the stock rom ?
If you removed some system apps there is a slight chance it will fail. Also I forgot to mention to remove xposed before unrooting because uninstalling xposed requires root.
Well then I think it fails because of the removed sys apps.
Will it be a chance to flash the ota using sideload? Or will this attempt fail also?
If I don't have any option I need to start over with the device when I decide to upgrade to lollipop. But at the moment it is not yet available in Germany.
I only have a due update which might increase the SD card compatibility.
hi,
I have Lolipop 5.0 in my Moto G + root + TWRP. I received the 5.0.1 OTA but of course I can't apply the update because of TWRP. I read (here) that I need to come back to stock recovery to apply the update. I'll loose root access but that's ok, I'll root again later. My question is: how do I come back to stock recovery?
Thank you.
The same way you flash twrp.

can't find XT1032 Lollipop stock recovery on XDA, I guess I'll have to open a new thread to ask... I flashed 4.4.4 stock recovery (through MotoTool AIO software) but I haven't been able to flash 5.0.1 update then. So I think 5.0 stock recovery is required to update to 5.0.1.
Thanks for your help.
If by chance you have the link to XT1032 5.0 stock recovery, please post it!

I guess you're using custom rom so restore to STOCK ROM .
Follow this guide (at the end dont flash any custom recovery) Stock recovery XT1032
Automatically you'll get stock recovery

no, I'm using stock ROM, with TWRP + root, that's it. So I just need to stock recovery to apply OTA update.
But thanks for the link, I understand how to use it to come back to stock recovery. Except... that this guide is for XT1033. Do you think I can use recovery.img XT1033 image file to flash my XT1032?
Hi everyone,
I have Moto G 1st gen with unlocked bootloader, rooted, custom recovery and xposed framework.
My question is if:
1. uninstall xposed framework
2.install stock recovery
3. unroot
4. factory reset
... can i get OTA 5.0.2 ? or should flash stock rom.
Thanks in advance

you will be able to download the OTA but not install it.
unrooting and uninstalling the xposed, and flashing stock recovery will not work.
I suggest you to back up the OTA zip file after it downloads to the computer (/cache/ folder - its outside the sdcard directory)
you will need root to backup the OTA zip file (use ES File Explorer with Root options)
now flash the stock 4.4.4 firmware (the one that got the OTA update) with fastboot
the Lollipop update checks if the system folder was modified in any way. if it has, the update will fail

Problem is once the bootloader is unlocked, it can't be relocked until stock firmware image is flashed. I was searching for relocking bootloader in non-gpe moto g but no gain. Relocking process in gpe moto g is working very well though.
I have a rather different scenario . . i have stock ROM, custom recovery, unlocked bootloader and root access . .i tried to get the official lollipop update, but it got rejected due to low internal memory . .then after clearing memory, when i check for system updates , it says my "software is up to date" while it is still in kitkat!! . .i have been then checkin for updates again and again for days but still no use . .plz what should i do to get the official update? . .i have seen lots of others asking the same thing in different sites.but no answer.

My son's XT1031, which has an unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery, has been continuously requesting to install an OTA update (221.31.4). I tried to install the update zip file I found in the /cache directory but it fails to install. Does anybody know how to install the OTA with a custom recovery? The phone is stock Android 5.1 (221.21.56) otherwise.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried flashfire? It has an option for OTA update
