Just simple question:
could rooted Z3 be unrooted and restore warranty?
No ATM, because the only way to root in this moments is unlocking the bootloader, and if you unlock the bootloader you lose the DRM keys forever, and if you lose without have a backup (The making of a backup of DRM keys is not possible ATM too), you cant restore warranty.

I'm planning on rooting so I can backup drm keys and use a few useful apps. Any ho, if I flashtool then root on a locked BL is my warranty voided? If so....
If the phone died, apparently using sony pc companion you can wipe the phone so there is no trace of the Root.
ThankS hopefully that makes some sense
Root does not effect warranty
You do not need to back up DRM keys if you are not going to unlock the boot
To completely remove any trace of root just flash a FTF or force a repair using PCCompanion.
Thanks for the fast response and moving the thread *new* ;3
hey guys,i've seen that for z to z3 there is a mod to restore the function that you lose when you unlock the bootloader. Can someone port this mod to z5?cause without bionz engine the photo is very bad and there a lot of things worst than locked bootloader
Well, the DRM keys restore are made when there is a way to get root without unlock so they can backup TA and make the files to restore DRM
So til they get how to get root without unlock we have bad img quality

The OP is actually on about the DRM function restoration mod (featured in the Cross Device Development section).
@OP, you will have to wait for the devs of that mod to port it to our devices.
I haven't checked XDA in awhile because I gave up hope of ever having a good root solution for the Z5. But I have been looking around lately and have seen roms such as [ROM][E6653] Slim Stock 32.0.A.6.200 and the [LP][UB][ROOT][DRM][KERNEL][RECOVERY](TWRP3.0) Z5 ADV STOCK KERNEL (2016/03/04) (v1g) kernel. So as of now, I'm a little lost here. Of the 15+ Android phones I've had, this has been the most complicated.
I understand that root is possible by unlooking the bootloader and that as of now, there is no root solution for a locked bootloader. Are you now able to unlock the bootloader and root with phone without losing any features?
You still lose DRM. There is a possibility to trick the phone into thinking the DRM keys aren't wiped restoring the DRM features after unlocking the bootloader but the DRM is still missing.

So you'll lose DRM keys but you can still retain all the features? I hope the same will be true for the Marshmallow update.
That's right. We don't have a kernel to run modified system images on MM just yet so can't confirm nor deny it working.
I have a few questions as I understand the Z5 rooting process is very different from the Z1. I am still under warranty by some months so would like to ensure I can still restore back to claim warranty if needed.
Is it currently possible to backup the ta, drm keys, root, unlock bootloader, install recovery and have the option of fully restoring if warranty is needed?
What is actually lost if the drm keys are not backed up and lost? I heard it can cause camera problems. Does it cause these?
My main reason for wanting root is more control, freezing apps, and backing up apps etc but as it seems so complicated I am wondering if its worthwhile. I wish I had known it was so complicated before I bought this phone.
What is the current method people use to root, I currently have android 7.1.1.
I keep reading conflicing instructions that say the e6653 is not possible to be rooted as the bootloader cannot be unlocked but my device says bootloader can be unlocked and people saying the root method for e6653 is not a full root.
Any help would be appreciated as it would be great for some more info before I attempt anything.
Is there still no rooting options for locked bootloader??
Any other phones have been hacked and got root capability...
No. Pretty sure all phones from the Z5 need to have the bootloader unlocked.
All 64-bit devices Xperia Z3+/Z4 and onwards all require an unlocked bootloader for root. The real question you should be asking is... Can we get a DRM backup? With a DRM backup we can unlock and relock the bootloader as and when we want. Without DRM keys backup we can't relock the bootloader from my understanding. Thats the closest we can get to locked bootloader root unfortunately.
hm... too bad..
Yeah don't want to unlock unless there is a way to get the DRM key backup.
Not risking my warranty just yet.
