HTC Gallery v9 - horrible - Verizon HTC One (M8)

All,
On stock sense ROMS for the m8 the recent version, i am not sure about the anyone else but it is horrible,. the scrolling through pictures at warp speed and the damn cloud automatically syncing your pix ... horrible imo.
Had to roll back all updates for gallery
1) Does anyone have the latest version of 8 before this abomination was released?
2) This cloud that keeps syncing, anyway to stop it, and where is it syncing to? Anyone? seems like a privacy issue uploading peoples data without consent
Thanks ALL in advance

But then again now that I think about it, u can't do anything with battery guru until the learning period is over. It observed your usage patterns over like, a 4-7 day period, so that won't work for a few days

I got that stupid thing rolled back. I found out it could sync it to myverizon cloud, or Google drive, but cannot confirm that as i despise the app and have rolled it back for this gross invasion or privacy IMO.
I will look into the guru, but am considering another gallery app in the meanwhile. I emailed HTC and asked them who or what they are syncing to and to provide us with some setting to modify this as it is a privacy issue.

Go SMS app using a lot of RAM

ive been using GO SMS for quite some time, but the last couple of updates ive noticed the app using ALOT of RAM. ranging from 50mb to 250mb(monitored this using system panel app) in turn causing my phone to freeze and requiring either a hard reset or battery pull? anyone else experiencing problems with this app. i love the app and im sure its a simple bug fix, but just wanted to know if anyone else had similar problems
also i did try running go in 'lite-mode' and still it ate up a lot of ram
Hey Goldenman,
I'm using GoSMS and GoLauncher. I've not had any freezing.
I haven't really been paying attention to the Ram that the progrms are taking.
I need to keep an eye on that. I will say this; after the GB update, I don't have the free RAM that I thought I would.
I use GO SMS & the Go Launcher too, & i have noticed it using more memory, but mine hasn't peaked that much, hopefully they will address it cause they're good about weekly updates.
I'm using Go launcher and Go SMS with no issues. My current memory with go SMS is 2.5 Meg.
Are you up to date? They released like 4 or 5 minor updates in the last 2 weeks or so irc. Go and gb have been sweet as on my phone.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
i uninstalled it this morning to see if maybe it was just me, but ill reinstall and run it for the better part of the day and see how it goes. go makes great products i would hate to stop using them ... i also use go contacts and no problems with that. i used to use go launcher but i dont find it as snappy as launcher pro ill report back
after a day of use with the new update i still find the ram use of go sms to be pretty high (75mb-100mb) ... granted i send/recieve on average 150-250 texts a day ( i get a lot of notifications from espn, twitter, etc) i still dont think the RAM use should be that high? any ideas? they said the bug was fixed but im still experiencing high ram use?
Go SMS Freezing Phone
I'm having the same issue where my phone freezes up and needs the battery pulled and/or a cache reset to get back up and running. My GoSMS has over 1600 messages in it, which I assume should not be a problem because there are a lot of people who like to store their old messages. What can we do to fix it?
Do you guys regularly close the program (long press back key)?
I find Google voice begins to lag a bit and eat ram if you text a lot, but just simply force closing it yourself seems to "reset" the ram it's using.
I don't use go SMS, just thinking maybe it relates to how it happens with Google voice.

This is most likely the problem because the app will cache all your texts you've looked at when open. It so you can scroll through them easier. So if you text or get 100+ texts in a day it's bound to flood your ram. If you close the app fully then it will clear the cache and the next time you load it up you will have to have the app load them manually in order to see older texts.

It's because the app stores your conversations in memory so when you go to read them it won't take any time to load. The more texts you make in a day the more it has to load. To counter this you can kill the app in the middle of the day and don't try to load older parts of the conversation. Also deleting texts every once in awhile helps

I think they're right, about it keeping old messages in memory so you can access them faster.
I have around 4k total messages, and GOSMS never uses more than 25 mbs, usually uses around 21. Running it normally with ICS theme and my own backgrounds, if that helps any on the usage.
Sent from my amazing G2X running Bionic Reloaded v1.2.1
Go sms shouldnt be doing that. Save your "user defined" settings for your themes and just uninstall it completley and reinstall then restore your theme settings and you should be fine... I was using the go chat and go fb apps back in the day but i found them to be a huge battery hog..
I also only run go sms on normal mode without go chat...
I used GO SMS for a long time until it did the same thing for me and started eating an abnormal amount of RAM. Was never able to figure out why.

[Q] Q:Talktime and data usage counter?

is there any application for talktime and data usage logger/counter for Mango??
Would be nice to have this. Sms counter, talk time counter and data usage counter. Even my old Sony Ericsson has this simple options but this superior smartphones really suck at some basic options.
I would build it right away
I (and probably a dozen other devs) would start build such an app right away, if only Microsoft made available the APIs needed for such an app to be possible.
If there was a way to query the information, an app to display and sum times would be rather trivial indeed.
Now, it's just a dream and maybe something for unlocked phones running "homebrew" software...
Well, on T-Mobile (at least in the US) there's a Marketplace app that does this, but it gets it by querying T-Mobile's data, not by collecting the data on the phone itself...
Maybe something similar exists, or could be created, for other carriers? There's probably a website taht most carriers offer this info on, and the app could check that site with your credentials and report for you. A really cool version might even use a live tile to update your remaining usage periodically.
i have seen a post about nokias new app that right about to come out. it has a call duration history, incoming/outgoing calls, summary, and the same for data transfer. i've seen some pictures but i dont remember how they will call it. but if nokia has this app, why would the other wp7 lack of this feature
Well, the data is almost certainly available within the phone *somewhere* and the problem is just a matter of finding it. Mind you, I'd be very interested in pulling apart that Nokia app anyhow, because I'm not sure that the normal sandbox would give enough permissions to access such data. If it doesn't, but the app still pulls the data from the phone directly, that means it's using a high-privilege Nokia firmware component (probably a driver), and that means one more potential avenue for interop-unlock.

yeah the problems are in the permissions we have today. but i have an rooted htc 7 pro and looked some folders inside the windows folder and some registry i couldn't see before with an dev.unlock. i have found such data, or the triggers for the data, some named incoming calls, outgoing calls, and so on, i have found that but i dont have an clue where the data is thats just for developers, they get it, and i would love to test this nokia app, i have seen it and it is very usefull!

Would it be feasible that so far Microsoft itself does not bother to keep count about calls and their durations in stock WP7, and that for the said Nokia app the driver component not only hands the info to the app but does the counting as well?
I don't think there's an App that can show the data usage other than those which fetches data directly from the service provider and so is dependent on that. Other than that I don't think any such app exists, but sure it would be great if an app for that is made.

"Well prepare to uncross those fingers as it is rumoured that the next Lumia exclusive app will be a data tracker." and i think the screenshots are not all that the app has, i think they put also something in to limit you data. example: you have a dataplan of 500mb it remembers you if you are near 500mb, and you can track it precise. has anybody more info about his app? i found only that what i read last week.

@rbrunner7: Pretty unlikely that the OS isn't tracking this info anywhere, but I agree that the Nokia driver may be keeping track itself anyhow. It's actually a significant number of different areas that need to be tracked, though: you've got the various cellular data links (2G/3G/4G/whatever, plus basic GSM if that's even measured anymore) for data, you've got SMS (which goes on a sideband of the voice channel, of some SMS are free and some aren't), you've got MMS (which send notifications by SMS but content by cellular data, and is typically not charged as data usage), and of course you've got cellular call time. If they're *just* tracking data usage (presumably by tapping into the network socket interface, and checking which connection each socket binds to so that it doesn't also count WiFi and such), that's quite possible if still a little complicated.

[New App] AirDroid Lets Your Desktop Control Your Android Phone Over WiFi

For those who spend a lot of time looking at a computer, and can't be bothered to look at their phone very often, Sand Studio has introduced AirDroid, an app that allows users to control their Android Phone from a computer via WiFi.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WfNnQxpw7Uw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfXRhSIm-m0
The great thing about AirDroid is that it works - it's easy to start up, and functions flawlessly (in my experience). The interface is also very polished - mimicking a desktop launcher complete with moveable icons, a task bar, and controls that allow you to do just about anything.
One of the most impressive features is the ability to access SMS messages, manage them, and send messages right from a web browser. Users can also manage contacts, uninstall/backup apps (AirDroid will download your apps as apk files), browse files, access the Android Market, and manage music and ringtones, in addition to the ability to look at phone information from CPU status to battery level and beyond.
Best of all, AirDroid is completely free from the Android Market. With all the powerful features it offers, this app is certainly worth checking out.

This is without a doubt 'the best' app for controlling your phone from your browser. I've installed and played with many and this one tops the lot in my opinion.
It's clean, easy to use, great interface (both on the phone and PC).
Side note: This thread would probably be much better off in General Android Apps and Themes forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=530. The app isn't specific an LG Optimus.

I'm a little hesitant to try out apps like this as well but they have nothing but good feedback on the market and a good following on both Facebook and Google+, as well as having their own website, so I was happy to give it ago.
@smackdownn Yeah I am with you on the whatsapp, this app is brilliant.
@Nucleotide & SpyderTracks Seriously? Whats the issue with privacy? Scared these devs are going to email or sms your gf while you are out? Either that or learn to hide your porn somewhere that is not your phone. I have said this before on so many occasions, when you were using a nokia/winmo/other NON android phone, they sneakily NEVER asked for permissions, but you installed apps that could pretty much do anything on your phone anyway
This app is by far the best solution I have tried in this regard, it just works and damn well too
@Cornelha
Lol.... I get what you're saying, but I think it's a little naive... the information we hold on smartphones these days compared to "our old nokias" means security is vital. After years of dodgy torrents, malware and hacked accounts, I've learnt to take it a bit more seriously, albeit probably to the extreme

I agree. I don't have anything I would call "sensitive data" on my phone but I do have a lot of contact information such as names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and other information which although not really sensitive, I still don't want other people to have - especially if I don't know about it. Not only that but apps can track your location, the buttons you press on your phone, numbers dialed, text messages sent, websites you visited, and the list goes on.
With that in mind I take caution when installing any app. I check for things like the amount of reviews on the market, the quality of the reviews (good vs. bad), does the developer have a website, a Facebook page with a good following, and so on.

New Facebook for Android UI!

Hi guys!
So today I opened up my Facebook application and was graced with a beautiful new, fluid UI. I am a member of the Alpha Team, however I have rigorously tested this new interface and I cannot find any bugs with it what so ever.
Gone is the horrible sidebar that once was, the layout is extremely similar to that of the latest Twitter application, apart from the Settings are not on a three button menu.
I've uploaded some screenshots to my Dropbox, take a look here!

It's so nice update but I don't know why the FB application is still using so much from the battery
Anyway the FB application keep syncing the things everytime you connect to internet so... I don't have it

I have heard a few people moan about this in the past, but I have genuinely never had any issues with Facebook and battery. In the settings there is an option to the reduce the refresh rate to just once every four hours, I think you can even disable it completely to be honest. I have Facebook on my Note 3 though and with or without Facebook installed I pretty much get the exact same battery life.

Agreed. Ugly, and bored.
The UI work is fine. As mentioned, the wakelocks and battery use are terrible. Even when I turn off sync and notifications, Facebook causes more wakelocks than most other apps and uses a lot of data. They should address that but it seems they never will so I use the web sites.

totally agree!
It's server decided. Any issues with not seeing the new UI have nothing to do with the application. users who get the new newsfeed SHOULD get the new UI. Not definite in all cases though.
I "think" I got it
People are asking about this new UI all over the internet, and when my friend came asking why he still has the old UI on his Note 3, while I have the flat UI on my Note 2, I had to dig into it...
First of all, we both have exactly the same version of the apk from the Play store (6.0.0.28.28), I even sent him the apk from my device to be 100% sure. He logs into his account on his Note 3, gets old UI. I log into my account on his Note 3 after clearing data, I get the old UI as well (so it is not server/account related issues as mentioned before, we even have been sharing the same router at the time).
He logs into his account on my Note 2, he gets new UI. I log him out, force stop, clear all data, and log into my account, I get the OLD UI !! Weird right ?!
I looked everywhere in the settings, maybe I made a toggle or something before ... then I remembered I don't see the "Home" settings under the FB app settings. I had "Home" installed previously and then removed. So I installed "Home" and activated it. Logged into Facebook and voila, the new UI !
I logged off again, force stopped, cleared data, and removed "Home" entirely. Logged in again, same old UI. Installed "Home" one more time, activated it, logged into FB, and the new UI came up. I uninstalled "Home", logged out (didn't clear data), and logged in again, and I still got the new UI. So I am guessing it has to be related to the Facebook "Home" app, somehow it leaves a setting in FB app data to enable the new UI !
Tried doing the same on my friend's N3, but "Home" is for funny reasons isn't compatible with his device as of now. Sent him the apk and installed it, it nagged that it isn't compatible with this device, so we couldn't truly "activate" it. He still has the old UI.
I hope this casts a light on the problem of not having the new UI and helps others. I only tried it on a couple of "similar" devices, so your feedback is also appreciated
What was your exact process for setting up the home launcher? I have a sgs4 and tried this, no dice.

The final solution to apps shutting down despite apps being white listed(Chinese rom)

As many people have know already, apps is still shutting down in aggressive manner even if they have been white listed. This is because there is a war between Vivos Imanager that try to shutdown everything to save power and androids own power management.
I will tell you how to stop the conflict between Imanager and Powermanagement, the solution is very easy but most people that complain have not noticed this detail.
This deserves its own thread cause this really solve all strange problems I have had with vivo nex (chromecast problems also solved now)
This is mainly important for push notification apps, video apps, and apps with chromecast ability.
We need to understand that Vivo have put their enchantments ONTOP of android, but android still is higher in hiracy but vivos apps trying to shut down stuff.
You must white list stuff both with the vivo settings and also android settings.
short repetition how to get push notifications work , you can either do it one by one in app info of each app or thru I manager and and permission manger)
Use whatever method you most comfortable with permission manger gives a good overview of app permissions.
Permission Push notification apps need is in app info screen
app Info/ Permission/single permissions: enable all in the device management section, autostart is the most important toggle. other options can depend on the app and its functionality but add permission to all in the top in the device management category.
App info/ notifications: enable the toggle as you desire decide if you want to see it on lockscreen, I can recomend to not enable "display notifcation details on locked screen" this is bad for privacy since people can read your messages if you dont guard your phone.
How to end the conflict between Imanager and Android Power mangement
As I said the solution is very easy but VERY important, since Vivos own software have lower hiracy in the system they Imanager and Android in conflict, this is why even though you have white listed everything in settings apps is still shutting down.
What you need to to is to go to control panel or task switcher and you will see a lock, if you doing it from the control panel which I recommend swipe down on the app you want to let stay in memory and not shut down out a lock on it. Now apps will not shut down, this is required for push notifications to work as intended also this must be enabled for all apps you want to chromecast from otherwise you will have to reload the app you casting from, this was a big problem with youtube before I was going back to the app and it was reloaded. This detail is very important and this is simply very bad design by vivo, since you basically have TWO power mangement systems in one system that dont work with each other. Now when I have added lock on all push notification and chromecast apps all seem to work just as good as any other phone. Keep Google app with lock on and home app on too if you want to make sure chromecast work, if you cast from browser then put lock on it too. Its easy to put a temporary lock on apps in control panel so you dont have to have it memory permanently keep in mind, also, you can shut down apps in task switcher...lock is only active as long as the app exist in task switcher.
Do you have problem with google sync services you can add apps in Imanager/autostart/startup( at the top)
Startup permission means (allow startup by other applications) When looking in the start up records screen it seem it is mostly the google sync services that want to start/awake other apps, if you have any specific problem that you think is related to google sync service enable, personally I have not enabled it cause I think the battery will take a big hit cause I see the android sync serivces want to wake up apps a lot. If Android sync service is for some how very important for you then enable it, but personally I think that the syncing is restricted is one of the reason why Vivo Nex have better battery then most.
Yes, maybe you could just remove com.vivo.pem in adb shell.

It’s Vivo battery management.
All other methods I tried didn’t work to me even first post.
I’m not getting notifications from time to time from various app.
Those stupid restrictions by Vivo software is hilarious.

It is vivo's battery mangement app which is more aggressive.
I have no negative impact after uninstalling it.

what about the battery usage.. Are we still getting 6hrs SOT?
Ok gays the news so far is very positive.
So far I’m getting on time notifications from various app using like messenger,WhatsApp,Gmail, outlook for the first time since late August(before that didn’t have those issue)
Seems Vivo software becomes even more aggressively latest update and that results of notifications not working all time properly.
I’m continue monitoring it and report again after 1-2 days to be absolutely sure that this was the key answer for notifications issues most of as having especially after 3 disaster update got from earlier September til today.
Let me know that after uninstalling com.vivo.pem you should restart your phone to take effect 100%

Nice ,it take me one month to figure it out . At lease this method can let homescreen widget updating in background .
One more tip: If you want app to stay in background ,you should disable "battery optimization" which is a hidden menu in funtouchos. You can create a shortcut at Nova launcher.
Many cudos my friend.:good:
All day now from the morning all notifications working brilliantly from various app as I said.
I think we got the golden egg
Yes I know the battery optimization in battery settings.
I’ve already set from beginning my favorite app to exception of battery optimization.

Thanks!! Gave up with phone and went back so my S8 plus. Now this phone is useable again. An unlocked bootloader would be amazing but at least funtouch isn't as awful as before. Just removed com.vivo.pem and so far it's been great!!

Yes that’s the ultimate solution.
2 days now everything works like a charm and getting notifications on time without any delay.
Remove everyone Vivo battery management witch is so stupidly and so badly aggressively by killing background activity from important app our daily usage.

Me too had issue with Vivo public account after latest update but talked to Vivo support and resolve the issue after couple of hours.
Someone has changed the password(badly wherever did that)and Vivo needed to recover the Public account.

So what's the status now? Are you still having issues? Did you remove the battery management files and had issues after your last update? Or were the issues strictly related to the changing of the password on the Vivo public account?

Your issues were strictly due to the changing of the password, correct? Not the removal of the files?

Not having issues with Vivo account.
Few minutes ego tried it and re enter the known password and accepted normally.
Vivo account has nothing to do with Vivo battery management services.
