I am also getting this error on ICS icysnap V2.0. I think this error is occurring due to some bug or incompatibility of latest google play service apk with our device. I have submitted the error report to google. I hope they will fix this soon. For the time being i have uninstalled the google play service. By going to Security > Device Administrator then uncheck the google admin. After this you can uninstall the application in usual way.
Previous version of google play services working fine.

I have also experienced this. Mostly happened while Gmail is syncing. Happened on cm-9, cm-10.1.6, and affected apps on cm-7.But Play Services works perfect on official stock gingerbread. So I think it's a combination of causes. Authentication of apps and services running on unofficial roms, and APIs that are built for armv7 devices. But I'm only guessing. Haven't had time to study my logcats yet. May 14 update seems to be a little better. But it's still not fixed.
Edit: May 16 update, still not fixed. Have read and verified that it works better on WiFi. On WiFi, Gmail, after syncing (and caching that sync) will not cause Play Services to close. But on mobile network, it does.
May 19 update to Google Play Services (version 4.4.52):
I think it's fixed
Updated several apps and synced Gmail. Did not get annoying message. Running cm-9.2.0 (hephappy).

Use a file manager and go to / system/app, and look to see if gmscore is still there. Long press on it to select and view properties. Properties should include permissions, which should be set to:
User: rw-
Groups: r--
Others: r--
The binary representation of this is 644
If gmscore is not there, then you may have it in your backups from TiBU.

Managed to fix it but I had to reinstall all the apps I had removed one by one as TB would not do a batch.
Kept throwing an error.
I really need to know what I can and cant remove as I rooted this phone to get rid of some of the apps I dont use they just clutter the whole system
Same bug after reinstallation of the firmware. I think there are some issues on Google's side.
FIXED!!! Finally Found This Fix!
I was unable to listen to my music for 48 hours, which is hell to me as I'm ALWAYS listening to music. This also looks horrible on Google/Android as I just left iOS (which honestly is a better OS than Android, but Android has come a long way so I'm optimistic about its future...and I also love my Moto X and prefer Android to iOS overall (minus these little annoying issues)). Anyway, finally fixed it by Uninstalling the update made on the Google Play Music app.
Go to Settings - Apps - Google Play Music - and select Uninstall Updates. Hope this helps.

This seems to have fixed the issue for me. Uninstalled Play Music, then reinstalled, and has been working fine since. Good thing too, as it was popping up twice in quick succession every 30 seconds almost. Very frustrating!
Anyway, thanks
EDIT: Seems I spoke too soon
im still umable to do it
I also have this problem, using most recent gapps.
Same problem
I've been having the same problem up until a couple of days ago Play Services worked fine but when ever i open the Google Keyboard the message pops up "Unfortunately Google Play Services has stopped working" and idea what the problem might be. My version is 7.0.97 (1791429-034)
Thanks for the help.

Back to version 7.* and the problem recurs. Need to defeat its auto upgrade, but this is not a normally-listed app on Play. Maybe after the audo-upgrade happens, one can get to its setting from "my-apps" pane, recently upgraded.

Don't attempt to move google playstore or google play services as it might become a serious trouble. If I were you I'll use DU Speed Booster or SD Maid to stop apps from running at boot and save battery.

Your suggested methods will fail because even if i stop them at boot they restart afterwards
But if I install them as user apps will they work?
Moving them will not make the system unstable,I suppose ;but the apps should run
I installed the play store and play services user
Then i opened the play store and it closed without any mesage of FC or anything
then i tried the play services i.e. the google settings app and it worked
Can anyone tell me whats going on with play store and why it closes
Anyone who is willing to try this and develop a solution?

I came across an interesting workaround today regarding the annoying refusal of Google Play Store to run when Google Play Services is not enabled. Running the following in a terminal will disable a component of Google Play Services that prevents the check when you start the Play Store:
Code:
pm disable com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.gms.recovery.RecoveryService
Note: I have not tested this enough to know if there are any significant drawbacks yet.
I can say that this will finally allow Google Play Services to be greenified (although other components such as Google Backup Transport seems to occasionally prevent greenification). In addition, it seems to stop all those logs from being written to /data/system/dropbox/, which I personally found to be very irritating, and found the alternative solution of setting the folder to read-only to be problematic.
Unfortunately it looks like google play services is necessary to allow you to download apps from the play store. I didn't realize it at first because the checkin service had already done its thing and I was free to use everything until it was time for the next checkin. I'll post here if I find out any way to overcome this, but it looks like Google Play Services is probably necessary for the Play Store to function.

Yeah, there is absolutely no workaround.Play Services forms the core for the Google Playstore App.hence it can't function without it.

...Just wanna let you guys know, there's a google thread, in which people talk/ed bout the purpose of .services. Turns out you really need that sh*t!XD
It's like a framework you simply need to have installed- just like @donniemceduns said. ^ ^
Off-topic ― now, I'm on CM11, with no Google Play installed, therefore no .services running. I simply installed an alternative market. ^ ^

I tried them all — Mobogenie used to be ****ty, works fine now.
.apk link- DIRECT DOWNLOAD LINK
Has all the apps from Google Play. No sign-in required.
I didn't like it; it's okay now. Use it as my primary market
If you find a better market, make sure to share a link!
didito said:
Thanks for the link. One question though. Lets say I install a kitkat rom. Can I remove all the Play Store services and their dependencies to improve my phone's performance? I plan to do this and let Mobilegenie be my only market. If this is possible how can I remove these services for good?

Hi Didi,
Yea, sure.
You already know this, but for all the people who didn't bother to read the thread, removing .services will result in errors, whenever you try to open a google application(Play store for instance), which requires .services.
I used a kitkat ROM before- deleted all G-apps and installed my alternative market. No errors! ^ ^
As for Mobogenie, it's my primary market on CM11. It features autoupdates, even auto-install if your device is rooted. Sweet! :good:
UPDATE:
Oh, sorry @didito! Didn't notice the "how can I remove these services for good" part.
Install an Uninstaller app for rooted devices( Your device must be rooted).
In-app: Navigate to SYSTEM APPS & remove google play services and google play store.
If you're not sure which app to use, try "Root App Delete".
Question... Or, an observation anyway... Sorry to bring back an old thread but I've been wondering a similar thing
On my newer device, Samsung Galaxy s5 neo, play services are needed to run the play store. *however*, on my older device, Samsung captivate glide, play services are not required to open the store.
Both using stock but rooted software from Samsung.
Why would this be that it's possible on 1 but not the other?
Unless maybe because I have already debloated my older device, maybe removing other gapps is what it would take?
I don't have a data plan and therefore wouldn't use much if any of them (maps, etc)
It just has me wondering what has changed between the 2, and maybe even if I'd be able to use and run my other devices play store app, and then use disable service to stop it from fully updating?
Hmm... I know everyone else has likely given up long ago.... But I've been curious today.
Hii everyone i am using moto g xt1033 with stock rom, unrooted, bootloader locked..i am having noticeable battery drain on my moto g when my phone is idle..i found that google play services(google location service) is causing the battery drain..i tried to force stop but doesnt work..just disabling the app works...but the google play services is necessary for google apps like youtube, playstore, gmail etc..so plzz give me any solution to stop this unnecessary battery drain...thank you
On Un rooted the only option you can try is
1. Disconnect Internet
2. Uninstall Google play services update
3. Clear cache via recovery
4. Connect to Internet and use your phone normally.. Let Google play services update automatically..
This might help

i had tried to uninstall google play service update...then the battery drain stops but the thing is many google apps require new version of google play services to work..that is the reason i am so irritated with this thing..i tried many things but nothing works
Can you point out the battery drain so we can see if it is abnormal? Your screenshots only show that it is running, which means nothing since it is always running on all devices.
Upon reading your post it appears some app is constantly pinging for location. My solution is to either find the rogue app or simply turn off location (gps).

i do not use gps its most of the tym turned off..and currently i have disabled google play services so i cant post screenshot regarding battery drain..but the point is that google location services always keeps running in background taking much RAM and i think this service is generating unnecessary events for location, which results in waking up the cpu frequently, wasting cpu cycles which results in battery drain during the phone is idle..and i also downloaded an app namely GserviceFix but this app also didnt work for me..so any suggestion
Use greenify pro
Google play services will always be running.

Hi all
I was just launching some activities from the Nova Launcher through which I accidentally opened the Google Assistant! With Lollipop! On a tablet!
Without much wait, Let's start
Pre-Requistites-
Latest Google App(Mine was 7.3.18.21)
An Android Lollipop or Lollipop+ Device
Nova Launcher
A Working Brain
Let's Go!
Open Nova Launcher
Long-Press on Home Screen
Select Widgets
Click on Activities
Scroll Down till you find Google App and Click on it
Scroll down and select com.google.android.apps.gsa.staticplugins.opa.hq.OpaHqActivity
A Google Assistant icon will appear on your screen, click on it
Click on Your Stuff
Click on add reminder and then close it
Open Google App, open menu, and then Settings
There you should see Google Assistant
Your turn, teach the Assistant your voice and start playing with it
Do not even try to post a "Thanks". Press :good: button if you want to say thanks, it really helps a lot!

UPDATEGoogle App's June 28th update(7.6.9 Beta) just removed the Your Stuff screen. Users who already enabled Assistant by this method have this screen. Other users with latest Google App can't enable Google Assistant by using this method. I recommend downgrading to Google App v7.3, enabling Assistant from the above method and then upgrading to latest one.
UPDATE 2Google App 7.10 update doesn't let people use Google Assistant if they don't meet the requirements, >1.5 Gb of memory and 720p or higher screen resolution.
There's a workaround, to use Google App v7.8 till there's another workaround :silly:. I need someone to test this out as I have 2GB RAM.
UPDATE 3Google comes to the rescue and Google Assistant is now available on devices with Android 5.0 and above!Just make sure you meet all the requirements and you're good to go.
UPDATE 4Got Assistant working, with 7.1.2, and 1 GB RAM! Google website still states 1.5 GB RAM as a requirement. So just test, and report it here.
Frequently Added Questions
When I open the Your Stuff tab, it is empty.
Change language to English(US) and clear the cache of Google App.(Credits to @Ezekiel3)
How can I use Assistant by long-pressing the home button?
Check out this awesome app by @Jovic77 here.
When I launch the activity, it just flashes for a second and goes away.
Clear data of Google App and Play Services, and then launch the activity.
I can't see Your Stuff tab.
Downgrade to Google App v7.3 from sources such as APK Mirror. You can upgrade to latest one after enabling Google Assistant.
EditNow you can't. Only those meeting the requirements will get Assistant.
