[Q] Is it possible to unroot the Moto G by flashing? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Funny question actually, I recently upgraded from Kitkat to Lollipop by flashing the latest build of the NXE single sim ROM using TWRP. First time I flashed, the setup wizard didn't work so I flashed the cleared the cache and etc and flashed again. That didn't work, so then I flashed the cache, dalvik and system and then the ROM. The setup wizard worked, but for some reason the root access was gone. What did I do wrong? How can this be fixed?

[Q] Accidentally wiped system, how to revert back to stock without losing root?

So i accidentally wiped the system using twrp. But i got it to work by using a usb flash drive n flashing a custom rom from there (paranoif android) And now ive been getting random reboots and crashes. I also flashed franco kernel. Also some system apps will not work properly, such as the calendar app. And i was thinking maybe thats because i wiped the system. Now i want to revert back to stock kikat without losing my root and unlocked bootloader. Im quite new to flashing roms and i find it easy using twrp. So how do i go about reverting back to stock, to see if those random crashes and reboots will go away?

Try re-flashing another rom, as PA is a beta ROM, and thats where you may be having your crashed apps

You can always flash the factory images here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701
You can flash any ROM and that should fix your issue
You will not lose your unlocked bootloader unless you flash the stock one which is in the factory images
Your bootloader will not relock unless you lock it yourself using fastboot. Flashing roms or factory images won't lock it by themselves.
And even if it somehow did, one fastboot command and you're unlocked again.
And as far as root goes....it takes 5 minutes to reroot.
So just flash whatever factory image you need and then custom recovery, and you're done. Maybe need to download superSU from play store after.

The crashes and reboots are because you didn't wipe data/factory reset and also didn't wipe dalvic/cache...
If you're keen on using a custom rom follow these steps:
1. Head over to recovery and wipe data/factory reset and wipe dalvic/cache
2. Flash rom.zip and gapps.zip
3. Reboot!
Initial boot can take upto 10 minutes sometimes so be patient...
If you want to go fully stock then follow this thread:

Maybe your flashing a bad version of GApps since the force closes are on google Calander?
Are you using a 4.4.2 GApps?
Im on cataclysm now, and i believe no gapps needed since their included in the zip. Have had about 3 reboots, i believe their because of playstore downloading an update or something, and one caused by either bluetooth or hello messaging app. But who knows. Just one more thing, by me accidentally wiping the system shouldnt be the cause of my random crashes and reboots?

Why don`t you backup your user apps and data with TB and start fresh by flashing the stock image, reroot and reflash a custom rom in recovery. This will eliminate all errors and reboots.

Comming from paranoid, I suggest first to back up apps data and wipe caches before the flashing the Rom .
You should not have any issues there after but if any, the wipe data and flash Rom and pa gapps

Yep, that's pretty much what's recommended for changing Roms. I personally don't clean anything when flashing similar Roms but PA is a bit complex imo and you already had issues with it. so, wipe.

Ok for some reason, gapps updated and then it said that it has to install so it rebooted me into recovery and it started to install but it said that there was an error in the rom manager script or something like that. So I just got fed up and restored my backup that I had. So now I am back on stock. I want to install OmniROM though tomorrow.

So lets say that I just want to install OmniROM. Will OmniROM work with CWM?
Also will I be able to automatically update gapps once OmniROM boots because for some reason I cannot flash the latest version of gapps so I have to use an older version?
You can also get gapps from goo manager and the online version.

It's not that PA doesn't work with CWM, just the ota app.
OmniROM requires twrp or CWM-based recovery. Not CWM itself if I recall.
You also have zero reason to install those gapps updates on either rom..
Gapps are updated automatically through the play store.

After flashing MM, stuck with no SIM. Why?

Here is my situation. I've been running Euphoria 1.1 Since I got my OPO at the beginning of December and love it. Have no issues but, lately I've been wanting to test some MM roms. So every MM rom I've tried to install it says I have no SIM. This is even after I flash the correct modem/firmware update and using the correct TWRP version. So has anybody had this issue or have fixed this issue?
Which TWRP are you using?
I've been using TWRP 2.8.7.0.5 (Materialised version) without any problems. You can get it here if you don't have it already: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/unofficial-twrp-2-8-3-0-t2981495
Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, flash latest CM13 nightly, flash MM ROM of your choice, and flash Gapps.
I personally have been having problems with the 00011 and 00013 modems so I've been using the 00241 modem from lollipop.

I didn't think about flashing the latest CM13 then flashing the particular rom I want to try. I guess I will have to try that. Right now I'm using 2.8.7 but, I've tried the 2.8.7.0.5 materialised version as well and had issues with it not rebooting correctly. I had to force reboot with it. I've heard 2.8.6 works as well.

I'll flash 2.8.6 and try flashing CM13 and the rom I want to install and report back later after I'm off work. Thanks
Edit: Well flashing CM13 first before flashing the MM ROM fixed my issue, I'm still not satisfied with the ROMs I've tested as they don't have the features I'm looking for. Looks like I'll stay with Euphoria a little bit longer. If Mod wants to close this thread go right a head.

Error Flashing Gapps :status 7 error.

So I'm trying to upgrade my Xperia L C2104(Version -4.2.2,Build number 15.3.A.1.1.7) to CyanogenMod 12.1 It's on stock ROM ,rooted and BL unlocked. I installed Philz Touch recovery using Recovery installer app. While flashing the ROM zip it shows no errors, but flashing Gapps get terminated without completion. It shows ' Installation aborted, status 7 ' . I did wipe data, cache and everything beforehand. Also tried flashing Gapps zip couple of times with no success .Always the same error. I restored Nandroid backup and got back to the original state.Phew! It is such a life saver!
So what am I doing wrong?
I'm new to all these, so please bear the noobiness and help with simple instructions!

I used twrp 2.7.1.0 . Installed it using the app mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...-installer-t3187915/post62536810#post62536810
Well I tried again with the latest 12.1 nightly ROM (the one released on 2016-08-07) and gapps for 5.1 . Flashed them through twrp and installation showed successful with no errors. But after booting all the google apps(play services, google now etc etc)started crashing one after the another and none of them are actually installed. Just icons are there in the place and when you click on them, it says 'app not installed'. Everything except google apps seem fine. I couldn't access twrp recovery either so couldn't restore the Nand backup .While booting into recovery,it is stuck at twrp logo and no progress further. At last I had to flash the stock through flashtool. That went alright but again I'm back on square one!

Okay, ler's walk through it step by step. Maybe we can get it working.
1) Flash TWRP again through that app you used.
2) Wipe system, data, cache and dalvik-cache
3) Flash CM12.1
4) Boot into system (might take 5-15 minutes)
5) After it booted up (and everything looks fine), reboot into recovery
6) Flash the opengapps zip
7) Boot into system and wait
(I normally flash system and gapps in one shot, but sometimes it creates errors, so try it separately)
Now it should work... Please tell if you encounter issues

Thanks for the help, but twrp becomes inaccessible once CM is installed. So I cannot flash anything further. Then my only option would be to use flashtool. It happened last time.
How do you fix this and what can I do to make sure twrp stays accessible?
Also, in advance wipe menu of twrp, there was a partition called 'Android Secure '. I didn't know what it was about, so left it intact along with internal and SD.What does this partition hold? Does it need to be wiped as well?

Already tried that. All I'm getting is twrp logo screen. The screen flashes in about every two seconds. No progress from there.
I also tried rebooting into recovery using CM advanced reboot option.Result is the same.
Before installing CM, twrp was working fine and I could easily boot into recovery.

I can help you my friend!
Firsly, Android 5.1 (CM12.1) is outdated. You can find Android 6.0 on these forums.
1. Download Android 6.0 to your phone.
Stryflex ROM or Cyanogenmod 13 or whatever ROM you like, search this forum, those two I tried.
2. Download AGapps (these will work).
3. Install TWRP. This app works when already in Cyanogenmod.
4. Go to recovery, wipe system,data,cache...everything except internalSD (that's where Android 6.0 and gapps zip is).
5. Flash Cyanogemod 13 or Stryflex.
6. Flash Gapps.
7. Reboot.
And Android 6.0 is really miles better than stock. Once you try this, you just can't go back.

Judging from the first two posts, you don't have a SELinux-compatible recovery.
I flashed CM like this
-rooted the phone
-installed a recovery with Rachit Rawat's windows installer (@corphish's app works as well)
-flashed a kernel that comes with a recovery installed (I personally use Vengeance r1 since it's the most up-to-date for stock)
-got the CM and gApp zip files on the phone, wiped everything and installed just CM
Then I flashed the TWRP recovery through the terminal that comes with CM..and then I wiped everything again, just in case something had gone wrong during the previous install. This time I installed both CM and the gapps, and everything worked just right.

Bootloop upon flashing Open Gapps in CyanogenMod 13

Hello!
I could not find any other threads related to this issue, so my apologies if this is a "duplicate" thread
So I found my old Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (Model GT-P5113 in Samsung ROM, identified as Galaxy Tab 2 in CyanogenMod) in a cabinet doing nothing, so I thought I would flash CyanogenMod on it and get some use out of it. And so I did; I flashed the nightly build of CM 13 in the "espresso wifi" image. Now, that worked just fine, but when I tried to flash open gapps (open_gapps-arm-6.0-nano-20161217.zip to be exact), I got some sort of boot loop; the device starts and gets into the App Preparer thing (pardon my ignorance) and begins preparing the google apps, and once it does all 16 apps, it starts preparing some other cyanogen mod apps, or at least I believe they are cyanogen mod apps, and then the app preparer just closes, and the boot animation restarts. If I wait long enough, it will once again get to the app preparer and begin flashing 2 apps, I could not see the first one, and the 2nd was the Google app. It would then begin flashing the cyanogen mod apps and then it would close, and the cycle would restart. I flashed Gapps right after flashing cyanogenmod; I did NOT boot into the rom upon installing open gapps. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? I will provide more information if it is needed. All help is appreciated.
You should only flash gapps RIGHT AFTER you flash CM13. If you flashed it after Cm13 boots up, you will face some issues. (Like bootloops, force closes, etc)

Hi, Lightracer, thanks for the reply! I did not boot up the tablet after installing CyanogenMod; however the same result occurs whether I flash it with or without a boot up in between (I needed to reflash CM multiple times)
What recovery are you using? Are you sure you're flashig the right opengapps package? (6.0 nano/pico work just fine)

Yes, I am using the right package; arm 6.0 nano with TWRP recovery
What happens if you let it complete rebuilding the ART cache (app preparer)? Does it do that everytime? Also, did you do a clean flash? (Wiping System, data, cache, art cache, and then flashing the rom? I never had issues like that with installing gapps :silly:

TWRP version 2.8.5.0 (I apologize, I would have said this in the above post, however, I was not home at the time so I was unsure)

I think I wiped it, however, I may have not wiped everything that was required. I will try this and post back.

thats the cause of your problem. wrong twrp version. go to andi34.github.io and download the latest common twrp (3.0.2-8). choose the zip. you can install it with your current twrp. then reboot back into recovery and reinstall rom and gapps.

That worked, thanks! I was initially following CyanogenMod's guide for the specific Galaxy Tab 2 Models (P5100,P5110/P5113), which included older CM images and the older TWRP, but flashed the espresso wifi image upon realizing that the guide was out of date. Also, the newest version of TWRP I could find for the Galaxy Tab 2 was version 3.0.0.0, but it still worked fine.

You could download the common twrp which works for every samsung galaxy tab 2 model. The newest version is 3.0.2-8 which is found on andi34.github.io under recoveries. This could be useful if you want to flash newer roms.
