Hey everyone, i can't find the necessary thread for surface RT or whether one exists, so I'll apologise to any moderators firstly.
The problem i have is that i have recently updated my surface and now when i turn it on the blue windows logo just flashes and stays on that screen. it looks like it's stuck in a bootloop.
does anyone know how to force a recovery mode or a factory reset on physically? as i cannot enter windows RT.
i have tried researching via Google but i cannot find any information.
any help would be greatly appreciated, if it cannot be resolved i have a very expensive paperweight =]
Can a mod move/delete this thread?
If there are any forum mods reading this can you move/delete this thread? a simple bing of search of the xda forums answers the question.

Before you begin
To perform a refresh or reset you’ll need to check a few things first.
Is your Surface touchscreen working?
If you're having problems with your Surface touchscreen, connect a keyboard, such as a Surface Cover or USB keyboard, before trying these solutions.
Is Windows loading?
If you’re having trouble getting Windows to start on your Surface, you may not be able to perform the steps to refresh or reset. See Surface RT or Surface 2: Windows won't start or stops responding for help with Windows startup issues first.
Solution 1: Refresh your Surface RT or Surface 2
Refreshing Surface reinstalls Windows and keeps your personal files, settings, apps that came installed on your Surface and those that you’ve installed from the Windows Store.
To refresh Surface RT or Surface 2
There are two ways to refresh Surface:
•Refresh from within Windows: If Windows loads and you can sign in, you can perform the refresh from within Windows.
•Refresh from USB recovery media: If Windows fails to start and you have USB recovery media available, you can perform the refresh by using your USB.
Refresh from within Windows
Step 1:
Plug in your Surface so that you don’t run out of power during the refresh.
Step 2:
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings.)
Step 3:
Tap or click Change PC settings.
Step 4:

Warning
A reset returns Surface to its factory settings:
•A reset reinstalls Windows and apps that came installed on Surface.
•All of your personal files will be deleted and your settings will be reset. All apps that you installed will be removed. For info on backing up your files, see Back up photos, documents, and more.
•After a reset, you’ll be able to set up Surface as if it were brand new.
To reset Surface RT or Surface 2
There are three ways to reset Surface.
•Reset from within Windows: If Windows loads and you can sign in, you can perform the reset from within Windows.
•Reset from the Windows sign-in screen: If Windows sign-in fails, you can perform the reset from the Windows sign-in screen.
•Reset from USB recovery media: If Windows fails to start, you can perform the reset by using USB recovery media if available.
Reset from within Windows

Step 1:
Plug in Surface so that you don’t run out of power during the refresh.

From the Windows sign-in screen, tap or click the Power button in the lower right corner of the sign-in screen.

After the reset
Here’s what to do after you’ve reset your Surface:
•Complete the Surface setup steps, including selecting your region and language.
•Sign in with the same Microsoft account you were using before so that things like the Windows Store apps you’ve purchased will be available to reinstall. For more info, see All about accounts.
•Check for important updates. See Install Surface and Windows Updates.
•Reinstall Windows Store apps. From the Start screen, tap or click Store. Swipe down from the top edge of the screen (or right-click your mouse), and tap or click Your apps. Select the apps you want to install and then tap or click Install.

2. Backup your device since the upgrade will erase any data in it. You can back it up to your memory card or computer.
3. If you are installing in a device with no modifications, hard reset (Press and hold both soft keys and press reset button, continue to hold soft keys until screen displays to hard reset. Press the call button to continue). If you need to install the original software, continue to step 3a

If it asks again to setup the device for syncing items, click cancel. You will still be able to explore your phone and install devices without setting up the sync profile for your phone.
5. Make sure your phone is connected as a guest, if it is not, make sure it is. It should display as guest after the hard reset.

6. Copy "Aserg policies.cab" to your mobile device
7. Run "Aserg policies.cab" from your device
8. Soft reset (use stylus for button on side of wing, or on bottom of herald)
9. Go into your Comm Manager on your phone, and disable "phone". Basically enter flight mode so nothing can be sent to your phone during this process.
10. Once booted, install the modified OS (with TouchFlo). Make sure you're still connected as guest, and run 1__Upgrade_rom.bat from*the modified OS*folder on your PC
11. This will bring up a command prompt waiting for you to hit a key to begin, press any key
12. During this time it is installing, NEVER touch your phone or play with it in any matter. It may look as though the command prompt has gotten hung up at times, but leave it run until it completes (or fails). your phone will pop up a message saying "unknown status" or the likes, but don't close that window, like I said just leave it alone.
13. If you have no error messages in the command dialogue box then you're ready to hard reset your phone. (press both soft keys, and press reset, continue holding soft keys until you see a dialogue asking if its okay to restore settings, hit the call button to finish it)
14. Your device SHOULD boot normally, go through setup, and you should be golden. If at any time there is an error during install, but you still let it complete, you might have a chance at it working. Hard reset it after completion (even with errors) just to see if it works. If it wont go past your T-mobile or HTC picture screen on boot up, then you have bricked your device. To un-brick it, run steps 3a through 3c and reinstall the RUU. If you get any errors, try and try again. Its proven working on several devices.

Hello to all,
I bought a new HTC model A6288 G3 + Hero and I pressed the button "Return to factory settings" with both SIM and microSD removed. Window opens to restart Windows, then the indication is "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Phone." I clicked and pops with "align screen" after I used the stylus to align. Hence no longer happen. I can't go to the next step, though I left the phone open longer. To turn off my Pocket PC I must remove the battery.
In the Add / Remove Programs I have left only three programs, but to Explore My Windows Mobile-Based Device, Windows folder is there.
Please help me to solve the problem.Thank you very much.
I'm looking to find out if there is a way to reinstall the Windows OS on a Surface Pro tablet so that I can remove the store demo mode from the device.
I've search vigorously online only to find solutions for phones or individual PC's. For the surface pro, I haven't seen any resolution.

There is a way
#1 Download an ISO for Windows 8 or 8.1 PRO x64 Bit, Now it must be an iso that is under 4GB because it needs to be written to a FAT32 Format
#2 After you download the ISO you're going to want to use a program called rufus to make a bootable usb (Free Program), make sure in rufus you set it to UEFI and you want to select FAT32, Select ISO from the drop down menu and find the iso, now this might change the field back to NTFS, dont worry, if its under 4gb like i said then you can just change it back to FAT32, now press start and it will write to usb.
#3 once its done safely eject the usb and plug it into the surface, hold down the volume down button and the power button, when the suface logo appears let go of the power button but continue to hold volume down untill the loading circle appears, the windows installation will start up, if you know anything about installing windows then the rest should be a piece of cake,
Most common problems of Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge owners may encounter are random freezes and lags, system slow down, and unexpected reboots or shutdowns. They’ve been happening with previous Galaxy models and maybe my post will help you in fixing these problems :
Step 1: Find out if the problem is with your apps
You may have already downloaded a lot of apps so it might be difficult to pinpoint the culprit but that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it. There are two general categories of apps; pre-installed and downloaded or third-party.
If the problem occurred after installing some apps, then you can almost be certain one of those caused the problem. However, if it’s difficult to pinpoint which app it is, you need to boot your phone in safe mode.
1. Press and hold the Power key.
2. As soon as you can see the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7 EDGE’ on the screen, release the Power key and immediately hold the Volume Down key.
3. Continue holding the Volume Down button until the device finishes rebooting.
4. You may release it when you can see ‘Safe mode’ in the bottom left corner of the screen.
In this state, all third-party apps are temporarily disabled so if one of them caused the issue, then the problem shouldn’t occur.
Even if you already know that one of the downloaded apps is the cause, you may spend a few hours trying to find which one is the culprit. So, to make things a little faster, begin your troubleshooting with the recently installed apps.
Boot your device in normal mode and try to disable or uninstall suspected apps. However, if you’re not into finding the specific app that’s causing all this trouble, then I suggest you reset your phone to uninstall all of them and try to download them one-by-one.
In case the problem still occurs in safe mode, the possibilities are the problem is caused by a pre-installed app or it’s a firmware issue. Proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Find out if it’s about a corrupt system cache
The system cache can easily be corrupted especially after an update as the old files will automatically become obsolete. But unlike the system data, the cache can be deleted without the fear of losing settings, files, and other data, etc. In fact, it’s always recommended you delete the system caches every time you experience issues with your phone’s performance like random reboots, slowing down, unexpected shutdowns, etc.
Once you’ve deleted the cache or wiped off everything inside the cache directory, the new system will create new files and this time, you can reset assured that everything is compatible.
Moreover, it is also important you do this step as some pre-installed apps may have also corrupted their caches causing them to freeze, hang or crash that will eventually affect the general performance of your phone. So, to delete the system cache, follow these steps:
1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
8. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.
Step 3: Bring the phone back to its factory settings
After booting the phone in safe mode and deleting the system and the problem still persists, it’s time to do a more complicated and a lot more hassling troubleshooting procedure, the master reset. For this, you need to backup your files, music, videos, photos, apps, data, etc. You can move them over to your SD card or copy them to your computer because they’ll be erased when you follow the steps below.
But just before you do the reset, remove your Google account from your phone and disable any screen locks you may have engaged to make sure the Factory Reset Protection or anti-theft feature won’t be tripped. Once ready, follow these:
1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
NOTE: It doesn’t matter how long you press and hold the Home and Volume Up keys, it won’t affect the phone but by the time you press and hold the Power key, that’s when the phone starts to respond.
3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
NOTE: The “Installing system update” message may show on the screen for several seconds before displaying the Android system recovery menu. This is just the first phase of the entire process.
5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
8. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.
Step 4: Request for technical support
Or, you can just bring the phone in to your provider and have it’s technician check it up for you. If you’re within the replacement period and the problem can’t be fixed, you may receive a brand new unit. But the point is, you’ve already done everything you could to no avail, it’s time you had an authorized tech help you with it.

Only if i lock with power button is possible finger print.

this is not an issue, it is working as intended since the latest software update by Samsung. you have to use the H/W button to lock your screen in order to use your fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone.
No 3rd party app is allowed to lock your screen atm.

any one help me, my galaxy s7 edge totally hang up.. after flashing new rom and reboot it after few seconds its hang and work open anymore...
Yesterday (5 November 17), I turned my phone off. I cannot turn it back on; no flashes, no response. When plugged in to a charger, no charging icon. It's as if the battery was removed, which of course cannot ordinarily be done. I have had no problems with it to this point.

Ok now after I've got all of that crap out of the way this is what you will need:
μTorrent
Flashtool
A bricked device (doesn't need bootloader)
An angry owner
The charger cable for your phone with a USB on one end
Ok so the first thing you will need to download is uTorrent I advise you to not use this for bad because it limits companies.
You can download it at utorrent.com/downloads/
Select the latest download, you don't have to buy pro. I don't have it but feel free to do so.
Wait for it to download and run the installer. Download it but if it offers to download any other things say no or press decline or perhaps if it is a tick box, un-tick it but be slow, careful and read EVERYTHING.
Ok so now you have uTorrent installed you'll have to download Flashtool.
You can get it from flashtool.net/downloads.php
I currently use version 0.9.18.6 on windows 10 with an AMD chipset but it should work with any other windows and I've tried it on an intel chipset. If you don't know what a chipset don't bother just know that it works on windows.
Once you get to that site find the button that says your OS and click on it. Once there click on the button that says magnet link.
For Chrome users:
It will open a tab at the top of the screen wich asks you to open uTorrent select the open uTorrent button. If it doesn't then restart chrome or try one of the other browsers.
For Microsoft Edge users:
It won't work, use a better browser (I suggest chrome) or click on the torrent button wait for it to download and open it with uTorrent.
For Firefox users:
It will open a tab in the middle of the screen wich says launch application select uTorrent. If it doesn't show uTorrent then restart firefox or try one of the other browsers. Then click the open link button on the same window and wait for uTorrent.
After that, uTorrent should open up and so will another window in your browser, close that window and do as follows:
Select where you want to save it to under the save in box, do whatever the hell you want with the name; make sure that the flashtool-x.xx.xx......exe is selected with the tick box and click ok. It will now download to your selected folder.
Once it is downloaded in the big box in the middle it will say seeding. Right click the download and press open. For me, it said it was harmful but do I look like I would/have downloaded dodgy software??
Once in the installer same as before deny offers and just install, refer to earlier on if you can't remember.
Go to the install location (by default this is C:\Flashtool) and for easy usage find the Flashtool.exe or Flashtool64.exe file make sure you have an empty place in your desktop visible to you. Hold down Control (Ctrl) and shift then drag and drop it to the empty space on your desktop. Go to your desktop and open the link you just make.
Once you've done that the program will load up, wait for it.
Get your bricked phone, making sure it is still on (so it has charge)
Turn it on (it will be stuck in boot loop, this is ok, this is what we want)
Plug it into your PC/laptop while you do something else in the program. so it will have at least 2 % charge (when I did mine didn't even load up afterwards it just had the charging symbol and when it did it had 2% charge) there is a button in the top right of the screen, click it.
It will bring up a window wich has a huge list of phones on the left. Find and click on yours in this list. It will have something like F3311 or F3313 (for my phone the E5) if you don't know which one your phone is, then just go through both lists and find the one wich has the country you bought your phone in. Once you've done that go to your phone country and look for your provider. I have a sim-only plan so I clicked on Customised-UK if you are in a CONTRACT ONLY then find your provider and chose it. In the far right, there should be a button under says available firmware. Click on that button or the highest one and press download button. Wait for it to download.
Once it is downloaded then close those 2 windows and go back to the Flashtool. It will detect that you have downloaded a new firmware. Press the yes button in the window. It will then do stuff I haven't researched but it is needed. Once that is done click the bolt in the top left of the screen and select Flashmode. This will bring up a window that has a few things. On the left, you should have a firmware window. there you should select your phone and use the arrow keys to navigate down to when there are no arrow buttons and select it. For example, it will look like this:

For my case, I would click the 37.0.A.2.108.
This should bring up a Content window, a wipe and exclude window. If you want to reset your phone check the USERDATA, DIAG and APPS_LOG boxes. If not then leave them clear. Make sure no other boxes are ticked other than what I've told you that you can. And press flash. It will do some stuff and ask you to put your phone into flash mode. To do this simply turn your phone on (it will still be stuck in the so-called boot loop). It will bring up a confirmation window and say YES. Wait for the magic green bar to disappear and ignore ALL of the warnings + any driver errors, plug your phone in for a few more minutes then turn it on and watch the magic boot screen of joy!!! If you chose to wipe data then the boot will take a log-ish time (3-4 min) once it has loaded it will literally be as if you bought a new phone.

Ok now after I've got all of that crap out of the way this is what you will need:
μTorrent
Flashtool
A bricked device (doesn't need bootloader)
An angry owner
The charger cable for your phone with a USB on one end
Ok so the first thing you will need to download is uTorrent I advise you to not use this for bad because it limits companies.
You can download it at utorrent.com/downloads/
Select the latest download, you don't have to buy pro. I don't have it but feel free to do so.
Wait for it to download and run the installer. Download it but if it offers to download any other things say no or press decline or perhaps if it is a tick box, un-tick it but be slow, careful and read EVERYTHING.
Ok so now you have uTorrent installed you'll have to download Flashtool.
You can get it from flashtool.net/downloads.php
I currently use version 0.9.18.6 on windows 10 with an AMD chipset but it should work with any other windows and I've tried it on an intel chipset. If you don't know what a chipset don't bother just know that it works on windows.
Once you get to that site find the button that says your OS and click on it. Once there click on the button that says magnet link.
For Chrome users:
It will open a tab at the top of the screen wich asks you to open uTorrent select the open uTorrent button. If it doesn't then restart chrome or try one of the other browsers.
For Microsoft Edge users:
It won't work, use a better browser (I suggest chrome) or click on the torrent button wait for it to download and open it with uTorrent.
For Firefox users:
It will open a tab in the middle of the screen wich says launch application select uTorrent. If it doesn't show uTorrent then restart firefox or try one of the other browsers. Then click the open link button on the same window and wait for uTorrent.
After that, uTorrent should open up and so will another window in your browser, close that window and do as follows:
Select where you want to save it to under the save in box, do whatever the hell you want with the name; make sure that the flashtool-x.xx.xx......exe is selected with the tick box and click ok. It will now download to your selected folder.
Once it is downloaded in the big box in the middle it will say seeding. Right click the download and press open. For me, it said it was harmful but do I look like I would/have downloaded dodgy software??
Once in the installer same as before deny offers and just install, refer to earlier on if you can't remember.
Go to the install location (by default this is C:\Flashtool) and for easy usage find the Flashtool.exe or Flashtool64.exe file make sure you have an empty place in your desktop visible to you. Hold down Control (Ctrl) and shift then drag and drop it to the empty space on your desktop. Go to your desktop and open the link you just make.
Once you've done that the program will load up, wait for it.
Get your bricked phone, making sure it is still on (so it has charge)
Turn it on (it will be stuck in boot loop, this is ok, this is what we want)
Plug it into your PC/laptop while you do something else in the program. so it will have at least 2 % charge (when I did mine didn't even load up afterwards it just had the charging symbol and when it did it had 2% charge) there is a button in the top right of the screen, click it.
It will bring up a window wich has a huge list of phones on the left. Find and click on yours in this list. It will have something like F3311 or F3313 (for my phone the E5) if you don't know which one your phone is, then just go through both lists and find the one wich has the country you bought your phone in. Once you've done that go to your phone country and look for your provider. I have a sim-only plan so I clicked on Customised-UK if you are in a CONTRACT ONLY then find your provider and chose it. In the far right, there should be a button under says available firmware. Click on that button or the highest one and press download button. Wait for it to download.
Once it is downloaded then close those 2 windows and go back to the Flashtool. It will detect that you have downloaded a new firmware. Press the yes button in the window. It will then do stuff I haven't researched but it is needed. Once that is done click the bolt in the top left of the screen and select Flashmode. This will bring up a window that has a few things. On the left, you should have a firmware window. there you should select your phone and use the arrow keys to navigate down to when there are no arrow buttons and select it. For example, it will look like this:

For my case, I would click the 37.0.A.2.108.
This should bring up a Content window, a wipe and exclude window. If you want to reset your phone check the USERDATA, DIAG and APPS_LOG boxes. If not then leave them clear. Make sure no other boxes are ticked other than what I've told you that you can. And press flash. It will do some stuff and ask you to put your phone into flash mode. To do this simply turn your phone on (it will still be stuck in the so-called boot loop). It will bring up a confirmation window and say YES. Wait for the magic green bar to disappear and ignore ALL of the warnings + any driver errors, plug your phone in for a few more minutes then turn it on and watch the magic boot screen of joy!!! If you chose to wipe data then the boot will take a log-ish time (3-4 min) once it has loaded it will literally be as if you bought a new phone.
