Hi All,
I am planning to upgrade my oneplus one to lollipop. How to revert it back on kitkat if in case I didn't find it useful as daily driver.
Thanks

Before you flash lollipop based rom, do a nandroid backup. If you don't find it as a daily driver then nandroid restore and you'll be we're you are at that given time.
Or just wipe and flash a kit kat rom.

Just make a nandroid backup of your current ROM with TWRP before you wipe and flash. If you don't like Lollipop it's as simple as restoring the backup. I have detailed instructions in my guide thread (link in my signature).

The only way to find out is to read the threads and see what people are saying about them.
Still I want to know what you guys are using and does it have any issues

Most roms do not have any issues. Just read the forum thread of the roms that look interesting to you, skim through the last couple of pages and you'll get a jist of the rom.
Or feel adventurous and go on a flashing adventure and try them all for a couple of minutes and then try another rom if it doesn't suite your needs. And what I mean by this is don't sign into your Google account, check the settings and what it has to offers.
Have fun doing it and don't take things too seriously

for a nandroid you means in TWRP go to backup and select data system cache and the 4th option all checked .. right

I have a galaxy tab 7 inch 3100.
As i live in China this is where i bought it. However here it does not come with playstore, just a really limited Samsung apps. I loaded a version from Anzhi but it crashes almost instantly - screen comes up then straight down again. I've tried some other versions, cache clearing and factory resets but to no avail. As such i can not really get hold of any useful apps (anzhi is chinese and i am not).
Anyone got any ideas on how to get playstore working?
Thanks

I always wondered if that would work. I had a trio stealth that didin't come with Google play, just amazon. I ended up flashing cm 9( this was about a year ago). I ended up bricking it when I tried flashing a firmware with a big enough system partition for cm 10 to fit. A wrong touch screen driver got flashed and none of the fixes would work. Anyways, I often think back that maybe I should of tried just flashing gapps. Anyways..... lol

I meant on the firmware that came with the tab, I flashed a custom ROM a few actually until I bricked it. Yeah gapps worked with the custom ROMs, but never tried on any official firmware. Like the op I tried various apk s, with no luck. On the bright side, I learned a lot by experimenting on that cheap tab. Lol... note: don't by anything from mach speed tech.

Anyone else see this? It's touted for the nexus 5 in addition to other devices. Anyone know why? Will it root with a locked bootloader ?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
We only need to unlock the bootloader to flash recovery. If an exploit has been found in kitkat, it is possible to root without unlocking the bootloader.
This could mean a full, end-to-end rooting process without the need to use a pc

Can you flash a recovery from Android, say through Flashify, if you have root, but the bootloader is locked?

Yeah.. My bootloader is locked and can flash recovery via flashify.
Although that's assuming bootunlocker truly locks the same as fastboot does because that's how I locked my bl.

yes. if you have root you can. worst case, there are apps to lock/unlock your bootloader if you do have root. can unlock, flash recovery via flashify, then relock.

Because I think an app that can root without a pc (and fastboot) will promote a lack of the need to learn the basics, giving us members here a hard time supporting people who don't know the basics

Yeah but someone who wipes /system on a train has at least possibly previously used fastboot or has a backup stored off their phone.
I see a lot of twrp users wiping /system and /sdcard.. If these people do the whole process on the way to work,, there's 0 chance of any backup anywhere.

Here's my stance.
I will not mention it as an option. If anyone asks if they can root without a pc I will not answer.. If anyone else mentions this app to them or someone asks about it specifically, I will advise on a best practice. I will also give warnings
Thats all I can do.

We could make a guide but I haven't time to do that right now. But if we could create our own guide with our warnings about not flashing anything until Nandroid and always being extra sure not to wipe stuff whilst away etc,, maybe there is a chance?
I don't know. It's a Concern

Hello all,
I'm on android 5.1 and I'm facing the memory leak bug. Some users reported that flashing another kernel fixxes the problem for them, so I'd like to give it a try.. But, how do I flash the stock kernel if it doesn't fix it? Can I just flash boot.img to reflash the stock kernel? Does it affect other settings/data?
