Enable USB Host API / DSLR Controller - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I want to use the DSLR Controller to use my generic Allwin tablet as a camera monitor.
The tablet supports some level of USB OTG as it includes a cable, and thumb drives do work fine on the USB host port, but DSLR controller says my device is incompatible with the USB Host API.
Tablet model number is: "ga10h" and is an Allwin 10.1".
Will there be any way to get the damn thing working? Custom ROMs or firmware I'm open to, as the tablet is disposable.
Thank you

[Q] Does The XOOM Have USB Host Functionality?

I know there is a hack for it to be enabled, and I know that Honeycomb 3.1 has this built-in, but I want to make sure that it comes on the XOOM before I buy it. Meaning, can I get a Micro-USB to USB adapter and use things like USB Mouse and flash drive?
USB host is native to Honeycomb 3.1. You will need a USB host cable or the Motorola camera connection cable. Most adapters do not have all 5 pins wired out to enable host mode recognition from the xoom. But yes, it works out of the box.
It wont work out of the box to read thumb drives. It will read mice cameras keyboards.
You have to root to read external thumb drives and hard drives.
Rooting is on my todo list anyway.

USB peripherals

So I bought a USB Female to microUSB male adapter for my phone and I was wondering what peripherals I can use with it.
I tried the XBOX 360 adapter that works with the tablets but it doesn't seem to work on my phone. Are there any that WILL work?
Just changing the "gender" of a USB device does not change it from being a slave device to being a bus host.
Unless you have a patch/ROM/hack that allows your device to work as a bus host (and I don't know of one for the Galaxy S4G), then you can't connect "peripherals" to your device, no matter how computer-like it seems to you.

Android to Android MTP/PTP & USB OTG

Hello,
how can I share files between two android devices using USB OTG and PTP or MTP protocols? Or even better, between camera (PTP) and Android device (camera is detected correctly by phone and reacts on USB connection).
I know that Android can act as MTP or PTP slave. I want it to act as master.
Any ideas?

Just to be clear -- I've connected it this way: Android Phone -- USB OTG cable -- USB A-to-miniB -- Camera. Camera supports PTP. I see camera in USB list on phone, and camera notifies me that it is connected to computer, so physical connection is ok, only software on the phone is missing.
Bump!
I am also interested in this. I guess it can be achieved with a linux chroot, but I am looking for a pure android solution. Any ideas are welcome!

USB OTG

Hi I made this thread to find out how I can get USB OTG to work. I have cm 11 s3 mini and want to control my phone by a remote and plug ? flash drives in but have no idea how this works. Also if you could provide a link for a USB OTG cable it would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Hi
Its just plug and play. You plug in the USB OTG cable to the phone's micro USB port and on the other end its a female USB port (the same like in your laptop or pc). So you just put in a pen drive and it will get detected on its own. You can open a file manager app and access it, or you can access it directly from any of your other apps (for example if you use MX player for seeing videos then the pen drive videos will automatically load up in the app as well).
To control your phone remotely I am guessing you mean keyboard/mouse?
If you plug in a mouse, a cursor shows up the next second and you have a working mouse. Same with a keyboard, works on its own. If you want to use both together, you need a wireless keyboard and mouse so that you can plug in the dongle to the otg cable, and then both the keyboard and mouse will instantly start working.
If you have a PS3 controller you can even connect that to your phone and use it to play many games - but this does not work via plug and play, you need to follow instructions to set this up and you can search on xda or google for that.
If you search USB OTG on amazon or ebay you will find loads of places to buy it from in your country.

I need an android device with some oddly specific requirements

I need an android device with
- arm64 app support
- Android 7.1+
- Separate HDMI and USB ports
- Preferably more than 2GB of ram
It can be any sort of device (tablet, tv box, SBC, etc.) but the USB port *must* fully support usb accessory mode (what Android Auto uses). I already tried a Raspberry Pi 4 with KonstaKang's ROM on it but accessory mode wasn't working right. My end goal is to install the DJI Fly app on the device so I can connect my drone remote to it and have the video from it on a big screen without the latency that comes with casting over wifi. The remote acts like a usb host and triggers accessory mode so that's why I need a separate HDMI port.
