WiFi Calling & Jitter & SIP ALG - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just wanted to inform those with WiFi calling issues to first test their internet connection for "jitter", there are many online VoIP testing sites that will do it. Just because you have a fast connection does not neant it cant have a lot of jitter, I had VoIP issues with Comcast despite my fast connection.
You can use the link below to check your connection for VoIP, click on the VoIP tab and click test.

Also check if SIP ALG on your router is implemented correctly. So test with it on and off. On some routers it sucks and can cause VoIP issues. I have it enabled on my Netgear R8000 as it works well on it.

Wifi before gprs for email +web

Hi all - i have my xda mini s setup to connect to the internet and collect my exchange emails all works fine.
i use it at work + at home a lot and both locations have a wifi broadband network.
i would like my xda mini s to only connect to GPRS for web browsing and emails when a stored wifi network is not in range (eg when im on the road)
Is it possible to enter in this preference anywhere? thanks in advance for any help
Actually, as far as PIE or any program that connects to the internet is concerned WiFi takes precedence over GPRS by default.
The problem is MS push mail. It forces GPRS even if WiFi is connected. If you try to serf to a graphics heavy site wile connected to both GPRS and WiFi you will see the speed difference.
I am not sure what the logic behind this MS stupidity is, and unfortunately I don't know of any cure except deleting the GPRS settings.
hi - and thanks.
damn.
well i did have a qucik test i went on the web and it seemed to be connecting to gprs (while i was already connected to a wifi network)
i will have a play.
There's one other thing I forgo to mention:
When connection to WiFi make sure you select the correct value under "This network connects to".
I assume your GPRS settings are under My ISP and that is what's selected in Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Network selection.
You should then select "The internet" for the WiFi network.

No internet via wifi?

Hi guys,
I've recently become the proud owner of a vodafone touch pro. However when connecting to wifi, opera etc will not find any webpages. Now i know my wifi is working and the phone connects fine and picks up the DHCP ip address.
What could I be doing wrong? I've noticed data connections is disabled but I believe this is just for GPRS etc? Either way how can I confirm my wifi connection is being used?
Many thanks
EDIT - NM it was because it was not set to work
Hi Scribe,
I had the same problem as yours. No solution so far. Had no problem with GPRS.
I have mine working good on either wifi or GPRS.
Probably it's wifi problem? Have you tried on another wifi connection?
what was not set to work?
I have the same issue, connects to wifi but no internet. laptop connects and browses fine, but touch pro (and also diamond) don't
Make sure when you set your wifi connection up you say that it is used to connect to work not the internet, also make sure your adapter settings say this.
The problem is that the phone will always default to GPRS/3G for the internet but if it senses a local work network it will use that first.
Stupid I know!
I have the same prob, I changed some settings and it works. Try change Authentication to Shared instead of WAP-PSK, Data Encryption to WEP instead of TKIP. After you have internet connection, you can change to previous wifi settings with same network key.
Mine has gone again! I swear it's because 'Connects to the internet' wont save in the proxy settings - nope not that and still wont work, I've also tried by disabling all security

Wifi proxy suddenly works on Android

Okay folks got a bit of a strage development that I could use some help with.
As we all know, Android does not currently support Wifi proxy servers, at least it has no way to access the settings. I live on campus and the wifi is piped through a proxy server to the internet and I found the lack of wireless to be quite annoying (especially the hole it was burning in my pocket!)
Anyway, I had bought a wireless router to have internet all around my apartment. The network is hidden and my HTC Desire wasn't connecting to it. I eventually found out that this was because the network was braodcasting in mixed b/g/n mode. I changed it to b/g only and the phone connected.
I hadn't really expected it to connect to the internet because there was still no proxy set up but to my surprise it did! I checked my data counters and only the Wifi one was going up. The network my router is connected to uses the same proxy as the campus wireless so there is definately a proxy.
An even stranger development is the fact that since then, when I connect directly to the campus wireless network (not to my router) the internet still works. I keep checking the data counters and its not using up any 3G data. I checked my IP address online and it corresponds to the campus IP address. I also switched off the wifi and checked again and the IP changed to my cell provider.
I haven't tried connecting to a different wireless network since then and I didn't change any settings. I'm using an unrooted HTC Desire with stock ROMs. I had downloaded WifiAce but I since removed that and the proxy still works.
So what I'm wondering is, can anybody confirm this or give any thoughts on how this is working? Does anyone also know if the data counters available on the market acurately track data usage or do they simply assume that if the wifi is connected that the phone is downloading via wireless and not cell.
If anyone has any thoughts on this or could go out of their way to try and confirm it I'd be grateful.
(update) I found that it doesn't work on one of the networks, the oldest one on campus. Not sure why this is yet
You are correct. I found out this a long time ago. It also happens with some wireless MAC Laptops. You have to define the broadcasting channel.
Stupid Question, I'm Sure...

I wonder if you could explain what "defining the broadcasting channel" means...in case I occasion similar difficulties joining a public wifi network?
It's a dumb question, I'm sure...but I've never actually owned a router.
Between my dearly-departed, slightly hacked XV6800, followed by Tetherberry on my 9530...Wireless Tether on my CM7 Droid (only in a pinch) and the Clear Wireless dongle on my laptop (shared via Connectify), I think I'm missing several years of typical AP experience.

How does Android determine if WiFi connectivity is bad?

Hi,
I tried to install AdBlockPlus on the phone, which runs as a proxy on the WiFi connection (Advanced settings).
However, when AdBlockPlus is running, the WiFi connection will drops, complaining low quality. If I switch off filtering, it will work just fine.
So I think the check is done against a server that is in the blocked list of AdBlockPlus.
Does anyone know which server it use? This will help to set up an exception.
Thanks

Wireguard VPN to home server and Chat features (RCS) connection issues?

I use Wireguard on Android to tunnel to my home network when I'm remote to use my home network's Pi-Hole adblocking. When connected to the VPN though, RCS chat features fail to connect (it just gets stuck "connecting..."). As soon as I disable the VPN the chat features connect successfully. I've googled this is seen that it's a pretty common problem among Android VPN users, but all of the results seems to be about a year old. Has there been any progress on fixing this issue? Is there anyway to exclude Google's connections from the wireguard tunnel?
Interestingly, when I'm at home on wifi while my phone also indicates I'm (apparently) connected to the wireguard VPN (which is redundant since it's tunneling me to the same network network I'm already connected with wifi), chat features actually connect successfully. I only experience connection issues with I'm on LTE/5G...Although, typing this I realize I'm going to need to test it on another (remote) wifi network.
Thanks
Seems like they fixed this finally (I'm cautiously optimistic anyway). Has anyone else noticed the same?
