[Q] lollipop security issue - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use a pattern lock paired with trusted face. I actually have to look at my phone or use the pattern when I am away from home, but for some reason there is no lock when I'm at home. I don't have any trusted places.
Thanks in advance,

Why not just use a normal pattern lock? Never trust "trusted face"

replace swipe unlock with unlock pattern?

hey guys,
any of you found an app to replace the swipe unlock for the unlock pattern, rather than having both?
not urgent as this is the best phone I've ever had, but would be a nice touch.

You're right... but it's such a shame don't you think... really no need for the swipe, if you have the pattern....
I thought that was the case...
May look into how hard it will be to create an app to do it
The swipe unlock can be replaced with iphone/hero/donut/eclair style unlocking using the lockbot app. So I think an app should be able to solve this (However I'm not capable of making suck apps).
there is a free app called "No Lock" which simply disables the lock screen apparently. If you have the pattern lock underneath this then i guess you would just get that.
i haven't tried this, but just came across it by accident and it reminded me of this thread
Thanks for that, but no luck
It disables both the lock and the unlock screens (if that makes sense)
It is quite handy if you are at home and have the phone on a table and having a text conversation where you keep turning the screen on and off, but not quite what I wanted
I wonder if this is something that could be built on top of to give us what we want, I will email the Dev of this app and see what they say about it.
I will update when I know more
Right then guys, I have had a response from BoD
I sent them this:
Good afternoon,
I have downloaded the no lock app for android. It is great app, however, there are quite a few users of android who would like to see an app that would remove the lock screen but keep the pattern unlock screen or pin screen etc. Im hoping you are open to suggestions, and as you have created the app to remove the lock screens completely (which is pretty much halfway there), I was wondering if you were thinking of creating an app capable of this?
If you are and would like beta testers, I'm sure i could get a few volenteers together to do so.
Thanks,
To which they responded (very quickly too):
Hi!
Unfortunately there is no way (that I know of) to do that currently.
I hope you'll enjoy the app anyway.
Have a nice day,
So.... It looks like they are not aware of how this can be done, IF it can be done, which is a shame.
Thanks sungrad for pointing the app out though
no probs sorry it wasn't much use
it exists in the security settings in the phone (pattern lock ) just enable it

I have the pattern unlock enabled.
The problem is that to unlock my phone now I have the swipe (with the triangle and the curve) and the pattern unlock. I want the pattern unlock to replace the swipe unlock, rather than be requested as well as the swipe unlock.
It's only a minor issue I have, but it does get annoying when you are using it a lot (text conversation etc)

it is really annoying but i have an idea the application mananger if we could know its name we could deactivate it like what they do with htc devices they deactivated htc sense
nobody has a solution for that?
Not exactly what you're after but there are widgets that toggle the unlock pattern off/on. You could toggle the unlock pattern off when texting so you only have to do the swipe. SwitchPro Widget has this feature but I haven't tested it with X10.
EDIT: Found this. It may be what you're after http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.brandongoodman.smartlock
Bump? I just wonder if anyone found a solution to this? I would really want what the OP states
just wanted to add... be careful with the "pattern lock" ... it literally disables your phone after 5 wrong pattern tries. I nearly did a system wipe just to unlock it.. Luckily for me it accepted my email account with "null" for password to re-enable it
I had that no lock app and it looked nice and handy but it messed with the pattern and slide default unlock when I went to uninstall, all I wanted was the pattern but no matter what way I set it,the swipe unlock would always be there, after loads of reboots and setting/unsetting a lock pattern it still did`nt work, this is after I uninstalled, after I dont know how many reboots even when I had the pattern enabled the swipe would come up first then the pattern, sometime only the swipe, it worked itself out, so be cautious of it....

[Q] Smart lock battery drain

Can anyone confirm that Smart Lock trusted face feature causes battery drain?
I'd imagine it would use at least some due to the fact it polls the camera to see your face and then runs some sort of algorithm to determine if it's your face or not. Can't comment on how much, though. I imagine that would only happen when you first wake the phone, so I'd assume not that much at all.
It certainly is a drain on my time and enjoyment of using the phone because it is a crapshoot on it working. And I still have to swipe to open the phone even if it does recognize me.
and using as smart lock the BT or WIFI places causes battery drain???
tnx

Have you used the "improve match" feature? I've done it 5 or 6 times with all different types of lighting and now it works pretty much every time. Also, it's not meant to unlock your phone like the old face unlock did. This time around it is just used to bypass the pin or pattern lock, just like a trusted device or place. I actually prefer it this way.

Yes I have, multiple times. It doesn't work in low light of course, because the camera can't pick anything up, it is all black...as you would expect. It doesn't work at non perfect angles, and like I mentioned...in my opinion I much preferred the ability to use being connected to my wifi to disable the lock screen altogether.
Lock screen notifications are fine, but in Kitkat if I wanted them...all I needed to do was dash clock. And more importantly, it was HARDER to accidently clear them because you had to swipe to even see them. In Lollipop, the second your pants accidently turn the power button on...it can clear a notification.
I'm really thinking about going back to Kitkat.

There is no WiFi smart lock. I really wish there was. Only Bluetooth, but the location one definitely is a noticeable drain for me. I'm not sure about the BT battery usage. I finally just disabled pin for now until I can figure it out. I wish they offered WiFi smart lock. That and Bluetooth is what I used in kitkat and had no noticeable drain.

Can be done with tasker if you have root
It could be done in Tasker using Secure Settings however Secure Settings isn't 100% compatible with Lollipop yet. I had this setup so when I was connected to my home WiFi, all I had to do was swipe to unlock. Not connected would prompt me for my pin. Worked 100% and no noticeable drain on battery.

In Secure settings, go to Spanner > Pattern unlock method > Lock Settings (experimental)
Works much better. Only "issue" I have found is first time I turn on the screen after connecting to my wifi, it pormpts for pattern but wont unlock. Turn screen off and on again and its fine,
Last time I tried it with tasker and secure settings I had very mixed results, but I'll hover it a go again and see how it goes. Do you guy's use tasker to unlock with bt also? Or just use smart unlock for bt?

I just tried it and it doesn't disable anything. Even just pressing the play button to disable pin. Guess I'll have to wait.
rootSU,
Thanks, I will try that.

I can't talk about PIN. I only use pattern. This works well. PIN, no idea,

You're right pattern lock is working perfect so far. Even with bt smart lock, which I guess I could just add in tasker too. Not sure if either uses less battery...
Anyways, thanks for heads up. Didn't realize pattern lock was under root section and pin wasn't. Maybe that's why it works? Pattern it is for me then [emoji2]

Easy way to disable smart lock?

Is they're a shortcut or something I can place on my home screen to disable smart lock? Normally I want it unlocked with my smart watch, but when I'm at work I leave my phone on the desk when I go help patients. But I don't want my nosy co workers to go through it. Do I want the pattern lock to always be on at work. Any thought? Did I miss anything in tasker?
No answers in 24 hours probably means that people (like me...) don't understand the question. I don't use Smart Lock myself, since I prefer to have total control of my device, but surely the entire point of it that if you walk away from it out of Bluetooth range then it locks itself? So your co-workers can't go through it (and what sort of people do you work with anyway...?)
Am I misunderstanding? Have you tried leaving your Bluetooth watch far away to see if the phone can be opened without the Bluetooth connection or password?
No it works correctly I'd i walk far away. But I work at a hospital and a patients room is sometimes is very close, so it will still be unlocked if I leave it at the nurses station. I've never seen anyone try to go through my, phone, but I'm paranoid though lol. I just need to find an app or maybe secure settings app to disable smart lock with a shortcut on the home screen
You can tap the lock on the bottom of the lock screen to lock the screen despite smartlock being on.
But then I have to do it every time I unlock my phone. The power button doesn't lock it
Just for clarification this is what I'm looking to toggle on and off. Can't find it in tasker or anything, so for now I'm just used any cut to take me to security settings.

Xperia Z5 bypass screen lock when fingerprint doesn't match.

So, I've just got my Xperia Z5 yesterday and today I was configuring the fingerprint reader.
After I've finished it I've tried to unlock the phone using the fingerprint and everything works great!
The thing is, when I use any non registered finger it fails to unlock, as it's supposed to do, but, after it fails if I just slide up the lockscreen, the phone unlocks normally.
Is this the expected behavior? I mean, I thought it was supposed to ask for the security pin if the fingerprint didn't get recognized.
Thanks for your help.
I think you have either a Trusted Location or a Trusted Device added/connected in the Smart Unlock
When fingerprint fails, it's supposed to lock fingerprint scanning and ask for password or PIN depending on your setup

OMG, I feel completely dumb... It was my Smartwatch 3 added as trusted device, I can't believe I haven't think of that.
Thank you very much for your help solving this non-problem, I was getting crazy over it. xD

S8+ Lock Screen Not Working

Dear XDA Bros and Sisters
I'm new here and just signed up. I Just got my Samsung S8+ and it work fine for a few hours including the iris scanner security lock..but suddenly i can swipe open my phone without the iris scanner or the pattern password being asked. I restarted my s8+ a couple of times..i tried to change the security method but no luck.
Anyone can open my phone since the security that Samsumg prides itself off seems to be defective on my S8+...or Can it be my fault? I dont remember changing the other settings though. Please advice. Thank you in advance.
Respectfully yours,
Fredrockzzz

Hi, have a look under settings - lockscreen and security - smart lock. You may have inadvertently enabled unlock in a trusted place or near a trusted device.

Usually the smartwatch or the bluetooth headphones, which is frustrating because you always have them and can't seem to find the problem, ahaha.
