[Q] Hardbricked Moto G XT1033. Need MBM-CI 5.0 Lollipop - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I upgraded my Moto G a couple of days ago to Lollipop 5.0 and yesterday I decided to downgrade my phone back to 4.4.4.
But when I updated OTA 4.4.4 my phone won't boot up.
I've flashed MBM-CI 4.3 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 with Motoflasher, but it still won't boot up.
Please, how to make MBM-CI file? I still have my OTA 5.0.
Thanks.

AFAIK, you have to wait for the official OTA to be release by Motorola
Have you tried this guide ?

I'm on BR Retail, so I get the OTA early. If that thread you refered to me talks about is the source for Android 5.0 for Moto G, i have no choice then, i have toi wait for it.

I'm with the same problem...
I'm on BR soak test

MBM CI-5.0
Would anybody like to create mbm-ci 5.0 files????Please share this to other threads!

[Q] Which stock firmware should I install?

Hi all,
I have rooted my Moto G and I installed Cyanogenmod 11 on it.
Cyanogenmod hasn't made Snapshot builds since M6.
M6 is getting old. I could install the latest nightly, but last time I installed a nightly version I couldn't play Soundcloud and other music related apps.
So I want to go back to Stock 4.4.4
I've got 2 questions:
1) Where can I download the stock firmware? I have already searched at http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14 , but I can't find the latest 4.4.4 update. (at least not for my region, which is The Netherlands)
2) There are plenty of firmwares. Before I installed Cyanogenmod, Stock 4.4.2 176.44.1.falcon_umts.EURetail.en.EU (no specific carrier) was preinstalled on the device. Now I would like to install Android 4.4.2 KOT49H.M004 (no specific carrier) which is smaller than the preinstalled one. But is it safe to do that?
Thanks in advance!
Did you ever update your phone to 4.4.4 on stock via OTA?

What's your bootloader version? If it's 41.13 you can install the GPE 4.4.4 firmware, pure android from google, or the European version again, if you want the Motorola features (MotoCamera, MotoGallery, Radio FM, MotoAssist, SMS Messaging (AOSP), Keyboard (AOSP), MotoCare, MotoMigrate). I like the GPE, I miss just a little the HDR mode of the MotoCamera. GPE also consumes less ram.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
I found out that I have bootloader version 41.13. I would like to convert my moto g to Google Play Edition. Is it safe to install KOT49H (4.4.2, which has a lower bootloader version)? I can't find the file for GPE 4.4.4.

Yes, I updated from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 via OTA on stock ROM. I had installed a custom recovery at that moment. I was afraid it would go wrong, but the recovery successfully installed 4.4.4.

If you updated to 4.4.4 via OTA you running the v41.13, it's shown in the fastboot main page (the one you get when you press vol down + power button). There you go:
GPE 4.4.4
If you have XT1032 will work for sure, I never tested it on other models.:good:

You're welcome I hope you like your GPE Moto G as I like it. It's a very light firmware, on my device the battery consumption in airplane mode is only 3â„… per night and the average ram usage is like 450-500 MB. Also I never got lag during the usage... And you get updates 1 month before the others. Enjoy it
This thread answers the questions I've been wondering about for the longest while but one problem, my bootloader is 41.11 (XT 1032 US Global version on 4.4.3) and my worries is if I update to 4.4.4 GPE and want to switch back to stock 4.4.3, I would not be able to. Currently running 4.4.2 GPE on the 41.11 (stock 4.4.3) bootloader. Everything works well, just can't change bootloader, obviously.

The firmwares for 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 GPE does not have in the emmc but the OTA does. As I said above, someone is looking to buy the phone, so I would leave it as is. Plan to get to get the dual sim version.

So I flashed GPE 4.4.4 again.
Isn't it possible to install stock 4.4.2 and update via OTA update?

No I don't believe you can ota because if a different boot loader version...you can flash the European union firmware...

Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer. Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Please note that the latest 4.4.4 firmware images are no longer being uploaded to sbf.droid-developers.org.
It's better to check here: http://www.filefactory.com/folder/c6cdedc45a775d27 and read through the thread in OP for announcements about new firmware availability.
Be very careful with Fastboot commands and never 'fastboot erase all' or format random partitions.

Hey,
I am pretty new to all of this. I have bought a Moto G on Amazon Germany, it's a XT1032. I installed Cyanogen and it keeps freezing and I have to restart the phone once a day because it slows down.
The question: Can I use a GPE version? Any reason not to? I would use this one:

You can try GPE, without problems. Just follow a proper guide, the partition table between stock and gpe is different.

You can use GPE without formatting 'userdata' by read the first post here and flash the GPE zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/rom-stock-motorola-rom-collection-t2854688
Basically you need to flash the non-GPE Stock 4.4.4 Kernel immediately after flashing the zip.

I don't get it. if we can simply install a GPE rom on our xt1032 and OTA update it to android l with needing to revert back to stock rom and unroot our devices, why is everyone talking about reverting back to original form and not just putting GPE and that's it.
can someone please explain?

[Q] MBM-CI 5.0 ? For hardbricked devices

I installed the Brazillian lollipop (5.0) soak test on my Asian Moto G,
I've heard that 5.0.1 has came out for GPE devices, so I flashed the GPE 4.4.2 ROM to my phone
then I planned to upgrade to 5.0.1 via OTA,
The 4.4.2 GPE ROM seems has no problem, but after I install the 4.4.4 OTA, my phone won't boot at all, not even to fastboot mode,
So I googled and I found out that we need MBM-CI 5.0 to bring our dead devices back,
As I said, I've heard that Official Lollipop has came out for us,
So does it mean that Motorola has also released the MBM-CI 5.0?
If it does, then where can I get it?
Sorry for my bad English, I'm Indonesian, and I hope some of you could help me out
Thanks

I have read that we should leave it always connected to the wall charger until the MBM-IC lollipop will be out.
The guarantee would cover the issue being the Nexus stock at the time of the Brick, even starting it there should be no signs of tampering, but the problem that if for unlocking the bootloader deny us the guarantee, we could spend more than worth the MotoG ... sure thing, I'm glad I bought a Nexus 5, after 1 year of modding I never had these problems, not be purchasing anymore device not Nexus. Should be out before the factory and after the OTA, not the reverse.
When I can do it on again I sell it and buy my girlfriend a Nexus 4 White.
Where will it be released?

That's the problem, we don't have Motorola Service Center i here, Indonesia.
Don't worry, if you runs out of battery, you still can charge it just connect it to wall charger.

Don't worry about the battery, eventough it has no indicator, it keeps charging when you put it to wall charger.
We could always try to send him assistance hoping for a warranty repair, or paying for the work, I do not think it can cost as much, being a smartphone cheap ..
I am on the same your situation, we can not throw a smartphone that worked great, you might not find a solution, I am not a MotoG users, the Moto G is my girlfriend, is the first time I've heard of MBM-CI and is the first time that brick making a smartphone with a firmware downgrade stock .... crazy stuff .... Sure you never buy a smartphone more than a Nexus .... What a horrible situation ... I have seen that there are several files MBM in the OTA but I would not know how to make them useful for our purpose ... From what I see nobody starts moving to resolve the situation.

yep, that's how bootloader works, bro. That's why after we unlock the bootloader, we always notified everytime on out bootscreen. the motoflasher has help many users on 4.4.4 now we have to wait for the 5.0 officially released by Motorola. the MBM-CI files for blank-flash wasn't inside the OTA files, but inside of motoboot.img, what we have inside ota is only boot.img.p. that's all what i know.

The strange thing that I bricked after returning to the stock not GPE after a soft brick after OTA 5.0.1, I came out of brick by flashing the official firmware 4.4.4 no GPE, I put the 4.4.2 GPE and has bricked during OTA 4.4.4 GPE .... can I still had the bootloader of 5.0.1 .... ???
I should not have the old bootloader after the downgrade ... ???

What rom did you use before returning to the stock? Did you use the Brazillian soak test? If you did, then it makes sense, you ruined the bootloader, just like I did
So now, what we gotta do is wait, isn't it?
My question is : How long we must wait for it?

Downgrading From MM to Lollipop

Hey guys .... Good Morning
I have a question for you or i want to have ur Advise on " DOWNGRADING FROM MM (JAN SECURITY UPDATES)>LOLLIPOP
Is it Possible to DO ? I have Moto G3 XT 1550 2gb/16gb... I'm Asking This question CZ i think battery backup and overall performance of Moto G3 with Lollipop was brilliant . But i have read so many thread of many user saying that they had bricked their device while downgrading from MM to Lollipop . So I'm Stopping myself to do so at this moment friends is it possible to do and what I need to do to make it happen waiting for Reply frnzz
Thnx in advance :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
I have done it.
Offcourse you can downgrade from Marshmallow to Lollipop. I did that 2 to 3 times, haven' faced any issues. What I want to let you know is be careful with each and every step when proceeding further.
I think you aren't rooted, so no TWRP. I have the same device, what I usually do is get the TWRP backup to an external sd card before messing up, so in case anything goes wrong you can directly roll back to the point where you started.
2 things I want you to know before starting :
1. If you are too much concerned that your device may get bricked, I think you must unlock the bootloader, root the device, flash TWRP and get a full backup and then proceed further with downgrading.
2. Usually if you are careful, you can directly downgrade without doing step 1.
Starting off
1. Download the stock firmware from this Link
2. After downloading follow this Link for flashing the Lollipop Rom.
I hope this helps.

U have done it before the security patches or after the security patches cz security patches upgraded the Bootloader and In order to downgrade i think i need to skip motoboot and gpt files am i right bro or correct me if im wrong
I never updated anything on lollipop, though it was rooted and had TWRP installed. I don't remember everything but I received the security patch updates, i tried installing but each time when the device rebooted the installation failed. (I think because of unlocked bootloader)
When Jio came up, I was having VOLTE issues on Lollipop so I wanted to update to Marshmallow but I couldn't do it over OTA update. I backed up the lollipop rom via TWRP and then manually flashed the marshmallow rom myself. Everything was good but I didn't like the vertical app drawer, so again I backed up marshmallow rom and then rolled back to lollipop rom with minutes. After some days I had to restore to marshmallow again. And after months, today I am on AOSP Extended rom based on Nougat. Excellent Rom.
So regarding you questions, I suggest you to go through the comments section of How to flash factory images page.
I already told you, if you are concerned then unlock the bootloader, root, TWRP. :good:

Is the boot file required to be removed as with the bootloader and gpt file.please correct me.
My name is Anshuman and I am from Rohtak ,Haryana
I have a moto g3 osprey xt1550 Indian model with viper os on it (viper os is a great ROM).Please reply as soon as possible.
Finally I tells you that you are 85% right. I tried by removing the gpt and bootloader file.
Do want to restore it to back stock 6.0.1
downgrade to 5.1.1
I downgraded to 5.1.1 using 6.1 stock reckovery for reset before flashing.
Flashed factory image without flashing gpt.bin and bootloader.img
After reboot i got a notification to completely deinstall motorola sensor-firmware in order to went back to a previous version.
Not knowing if this will brick my device, i only disabled the notification by longpressing it/ question mark/.. a screen opened where i could block this notification.
Till now i could not see battery life improvement compared to MM or N Roms

Yes you can downgrade by using stock recovery with having Motorola update notification but you can not do it with twrp recovery as it may be dangerous for your phone.I had done it successfully with stock recovery of 5.1

Sorry bro Motorola hasn't released the firmware and also it is not available on XDA also there are chance that we will receive them late but I'm not sure about that and bro first thing to relock the bootloader u need to have the same firmware on which u unlocked the Bootloader. So to relock the bootloader again u need the firmware latest with oct/jan/april security patches .
