Touchscreen issues - Verizon HTC One (M8)

My wife and I both have the VZW M8, hers is stock and mine is stock rooted. A lately we've both been having issues with the touchscreen getting crazy.
While texting, the gesture typing trail will show up on screen when we aren't using it. Easily fixed by turning that off. However both phones are having issues with phantom touches or complete unresponsiveness. Turning the screen off and then on after a few fixes it briefly, rebooting and letting it sit off for a bit works as well. Just trying to type this up I've had to continuous issues.
Can't do my daily crossword puzzles because it jumps around the board constantly and that's bull****. Anyone else having problems or ideas as to how to fix this?

Well I spent some time on the phone with a tier 2 tech from Verizon. He claimed that it may be leftover data from when I restored my Google contacts...
I humored him and factory reset without anything syncing it restoring. It still happened.
Any ideas at all?

i am having this same exact issue and it is driving my crazy. I have done a factory reset, gone back to stock rom and no luck yet. Beginning to believe it's hardware related but don't know what might have caused it, and these phones are so hard to tear apart that i'm afraid to do so.

I have the same issues, its random. Start typing and its like multiple taps all over the screen. Really annoying

[Q] Should I use stock when I take this for repair?

For a few months my phone has had a problem where the screen will take control of itself or become unresponsive, it's not the phone being slow, because hardware keys respond perfectly. Scrubbing the screen with a Lysol wipe helps sometimes, but I'd rather just have the problem taken care of (it seems like it's caused by fingerprints on the screen, which isn't a problem on any of my friends' SKs and initially wasn't on mine either).
Anyway, when I take my SK to T-Mo, should I flash a ROM that at least looks stock for warranty purposes or will they not care?
If I do need to go to stock, how would I go about doing that? As far as I remember, I've never taken a backup in recovery and never ODIN'ed (stupid, I know), so I've no idea what to do. I can flash ROMs perfectly fine, but going back to stock is a mind-boggler for me (disabling Voodoo, etc).
Thanks
Mine always does this.
1. The optical trackpad detects the sunlight, strong indoor lights, etc, as movement and causes spurious scrolling.
2. Water on the screen or a finger just outside the boarder of the screen causes the touchscreen to get confused and either not respond or move on its own.
3. The touchscreen driver is prone to crashing. About half the times I want to answer a call or something, I need to toggle the screen off and on with the power button before it'll work.
None of this is because the hardware has broken. 1 is due to a bad design, 2 is inherent to touchscreens of this type, and 3 is just bad programming.
Ha! I have to do #3 all the time. Glad to know it's not just me. Ridiculous.
Also FYI, #1 never happens to me. I see people here curse that damn sensor all the time, but I have never had mine move randomly in sunlight, and it generally works pretty well for me as arrow-keys.
I also do #3 all the time, and have had problems with the optical trackpad in the past (I've since disabled it).
What the problem appeared to be was that my fingers are oily or something, explaining why wiping the screen excessively was useful. I passed on taking it to the T-Mobile store and instead ordered screen protectors from Amazon. No problems since I applied one.
Has anyone else encountered this, or is this a unique problem? I got through nearly a year without having this problem, so maybe something went wonky in the screen. Anyway, problem fixed

[Q] Touchscreen stops working

Okay so this is ROM independent, and has been happening over the course of 2-3 months (with varied roms and many wipes). What will happen is that when I unlock the phone, rarely, (I'd say 1 in 100 times, maybe more) the touchscreen won't work. Usually if I leave it alone for a while, when I go to unlock it, it works again. But usually, I'll have to force reset the phone and then it'll work. It is nearly imposible to recreate this problem, it just randomly happens. My phone doesn't have water damage, and only has some nicks on the cornes from small drops. Anyone know what is happening?
This is a known bug with s2w, some reports also say underclocking/overclocking/undervolting is causing the issue too. Either way, it's well known and there's no fix at this time except for disabling those features or going back to stock kernel.
Ah thanks, had no idea

[Q] Tf300t Ghost Touches

Hello there,
I've had several issues with my tf300t that really annoyed me. Well, first off, all of a sudden the touchscreen stopped working. I tried a hard reset, then a cold boot, no success. Then i had it sent to be fixed. After one entire month i got my tf300t back and verified if everything was back to normal. The touchscreen was working properly but after just one hour i noticed that i have ghost touches once again. I know what ghost touches are, i did a lot of research.
I had ghost touches before i had my tf300t sent to be fixed. Is it really a hardware issue? Because theese annoying ghost touches stop everytime after i do a cold boot. Sadly, they come back after a while, mostly after i turn my wifi on. Everything goes haywire.
What should i do? Send it back? The thing is that i rooted my tf300t and this kinda voids my warranty.
Sometimes i even experiment dead zones on my touchscreen. They go away everytime after i do a cold boot but this thing is really starting to piss me off. How did you guys manage to get rid of theese ghost touches?
You could try to update the digitizer firmware. Check out the threads about digitizer replacement. Basically you just need to run the touch_fw_update command. Either with the firmware already installed or download the 4820 version. Could also be a loose cable. Before messing with any cables, turn off your service switch.
I have a nexus5 as well as a TF300T and have noticed on the N5 that when charging you can get ghost images its like the digitizer goes a little mental when charging. It is a known bug (various reports to google) and something they are working on. Could the TF300T have a similar bug?

[Q] Bad digitizer or software issue? Random input.

My M8 is on stock ROM, rooted with Xposed and a handful of modules.
Half the time I'm in the Play Store viewing a list of my installed apps, my phone will somehow register a touch anywhere randomly on the display while I'm not touching the screen in any way. Initially I assumed it was a busted digitizer, but it ONLY does this while I'm in the Play Store, from what I've noticed at least. My phone does this while unplugged from any charger/cable.
Also, a lot of times while I'm using the phone while charging, the digitizer will freak the hell out while I'm touching it and register inputs all over the screen and very rapidly. I've seen this on other phones as well while using a crappy non-OEM charger, but this phone seems very much more sensitive to what charger you're using. Chargers that worked fine on my Note 2 and my wife's current GS4 make my M8's digitizer freak out. Has anyone else noticed this?
FYI, I can see these random inputs by enabling "show touches" in the developer options. I'll see touches register on the screen without me touching the phone at all in both of the scenarios above.

Are you using any sort of cases/screen protectors? If so try taking them off and seeing if the issue persists. Also wipe down the screen and get rid of any smudges and fingerprints and see if that fixes it as those can apparently sometimes cause this.
Lastly you can try doing a 'Factory Data Reset' from your recovery such as TWRP, I do not know if the stock recoveries have these but if they do and this is a software issue than this will solve your problem. (Requires S-OFF if it's not available in stock recovery)
If doing the factory data reset does not solve your problem than it is almost definitely a manufacturer defect.
Do take note I did my own research just now to bring you these answers and I am not capable of giving you an overly educated answer like someone else may. Good luck! & I hope the software/case solutions fix it.
Edit: Try disabling Xposed and see if the problem persists too.

Haven't noticed anything with different chargers, you could have a hardware problem.

Using a Supcase that doesn't touch the display and no screen protector. It does it without the case being on too.
I've recently did a full system wipe and tried a new ROM (Clean ROM) and it still does it, but only in the Play Store, which is why it's confusing me as to if it's a software or hardware issue. I've had HTC send me a replacement M8 out because of it and the new phone ( and previous 2 other phones I had hardware issue with) never did this, which makes me believe that it is indeed a hardware issue. It's just bizarre that it only happens in the Play Store.
When I flashed this new ROM though, it didn't do it initially during the setup of the phone and getting all my apps installed/updated. Once I installed Xposed, it did it, so I uninstalled Xposed to see if it continued and it did, so I'm not sure if it was a coincidence that I didn't have any "phantom touches" before installing Xposed or not.

Rooted, no xposed. It was doing the Phantom touches when I was unrooted also.

Just want to bump this to see if anyone else is experiencing it and maybe fine a possible fix. I've replaced this phone 3 times now for different issues and would like to see if I can fix this without swapping it out again. It has gotten a tad worse now and the phantom touches have extended into Hangouts when I initially open it and start typing into a conversation, it will register taps on the keyboard and I have to delete the erroneous input immediately upon the keyboard opening. Otherwise, I don't see it anywhere else in any other apps or situations. Friggin weird. It has followed me across ROMs and factory resets. So I'm guessing it's just a weird-ass hardware issue.
I also facing this issue yesterday & getting worst today. I on ViperRom stock, no xposed or whatsoever.. just viper rom.. this phone just 2 months in my hand.... not only the phantom touches, but dead band as well...
did you send to service centre to get it fix or replacement?

Mine eventually resolved itself. I was only having Phantom touches on Google Apps. Mainly the playstore and Gmail.
Playstore updated and the issue went away, started using inbox instead of Gmail and it also went away. Haven't had a problem since.
Your issue sounds like it might be more of an issue, but updating both of those apps fixed my problems.

Any fixes for the phantom touch??

S7 Edge freezing then restarting

Hi all,
Hope somebody can shed some light on this issue I'm facing. This is my first ever post. All your input will be very much appreciated.
I purchased this S7 Edge DUOS (Dual sim version) around 8 weeks ago. Around 3 weeks into my ownership, I've started facing a persistent issue which I've tried to resolve with the best of my knowledge but unfortunately I haven't succeeded.
Randomly the phone will freeze for around 5 to 10 seconds and then restart. Sometimes a pixelated set of lines would appear across the screen when it freezes, a lot of the times they are green.
When the phone does reboot and I return back to the main screen, everything is back to normal and the apps I was using remain opened in the background, so it's not a proper reboot.
There is no such pattern on when this happens, it happens while being used on any app and a lot of the times it reboots while the phone is in my pocket. The only reason I realise is because the phone will be on the startup lock screen.
Battery life seems okay, nothing seems to be draining the battery. Although sometimes it does get hot and drains it temporarily.
I have cleared cache partition, done a factory reset and deleted third party apps. Nothing has resolved the issue. When I did the factory reset, the phone didn't crash for a good few days then started doing it again.
I just cannot work out what it may be and it's getting really frustrating!
I really hope somebody can shed some light on this, I am trying to avoid going down the return route.
Many Thanks in advance for all your help.
Hassan
Hi my mate had the exact taste problem with his s7 Edge single dim version, it woody of freeze and reboot and pixilated just as u explained and turned out his phone his cpu overheated and this was the result of it, he then returned it to Samsung and he received a brand new handset so best is to maybe return it as it sounds to be a faulty handset.
