Dialer app battery drain - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I'm on 4.4.4 firmware and am running Viper 3.2.1. Since the firmware update, I've been noticing worse battery life. I looked into it and noticed that the biggest battery drain on my phone is the dialer. I don't remember seeing this before, seems like system and kernel have always been at the top. I have wiped the dalvik and cache a couple times and have seen no change. Is this normal? Any thoughts? Thanks for your help.

I had that a little ways back (same ROM/firmware as you)....I don't perfectly remember, but if you go into and see what part of dialer is causing it...you may find an offending app...I think mine was Skype...it went wonky and was causing the dialer to drain battery,

heavy battery drain and mobile heating up since last evening

Hi,
I was running MIUIXperience V5 and everything was fine till got a random reboot last evening and after that, battery started draining very fast doing nothing 20-25% in an hour. Mobile is heating up a lot now back side near camera and charging also became very slow (30-40% in 4 hours). Tried full wipe and reinstalling the ROM but still the same issue, wiped battery stats as well.
I was getting 25-35 hrs before this so doesn't look like a fault in battery. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
Seems a hardware issue to me. Maybe try to swamp battery's and see if the current one you're using is busted.

Thanks for your help but I still doubt the battery as when charging in powered off, it charge well & quickly as before
Can you try another ROM? If it would work ok with another ROM that would put the hardware suspicion aside. If it still keeps the same with a different ROM, then it's most definitively a hardware issue.

I have tried another ROM and same ROM with clean install, they seem good as before the issue but as soon as I enable root permissions, battery started to drain fast again (35% in an hour)
got a similar issue with mine, usually my battery stills 20hrs, and that's ok for my usage, I'm running brainmaster cm9, but same with CDA 2.0.0, randomly the phone, in some case after a reboot or disconnecting power cable, start to drain battery and become hot, in battery usage stats AndroidOS is the main issue and android.process.acore the resource that never sleep,
I think this can came from a bad deep idle management on some rom-kernels combo or ics 4.0.4 issue, but I nobody to say this...

I tried different MIUI Roms but issue remained same. Then I installed Androxide after full wipe and now seems to be working fine (72% after 7hrs). Still can't figure out what is the issue that different variants of MIUI Roms after clean install and battery starts to discharge heavily.
Tried going back to MIUI but probelm came again and after restoring to Androxide, again working fine

I suggest to install an app like Quick System Info anche see id there is a process running high on CPU usage: there you can see its log and try to understand what's happening...
BTW, I started to have some massive drain with the last CM9 nightlies: it was the Phone app that sucked all the juice in a few hours.
I wiped & reflashed dozen of times, checking if the drain was caused by some app, until I used Quick System Info and saw from the logs that the problem was the new 2g/3g toggle widget: I had set it to "3g preferred" but this caused a loop. Setting it to "2g only"/"3g only" fixed the issue.
First, MIUI is a Chinese ROM.
Second, Chinese things are always known for bad quality.
So MIUI is bad
Really, dude? Maybe you should take the tin foil hat off.

Android OS drain - who else has it?

Hello,
I know there are some topics like this but they were not clear for me.
Sinds already a really long time i have serious draining problems.
when i look at my battery usage, i see android OS just as high as the consumption of my screen.
I changed to every (ICS) ROM you can imagine, but the problem always comes back.
Is it normall that android OS is using between 20-50% ?
Does everyone have this problem?
Better battery stats says: audio out_3 and alarm manager is causing it.
But i can't really remove them can I?
I noticed the back of my phone is always warm, it just doesn't cool down.
I think one of my apps is causing this drain, but I really don't know how to find it.
Do you have any suggestions?
thank you!
You could try a slimmed down version if something like AOSP then see without installing any apps if the problem still occurs.
As for heat mine is always warn too even undervolted and underclockdd to 972mhz it can get warm.

when I still had my MT4G, someone found out that if you delete "Google Backup Transport" that the Android OS would go back to normal along with battery life. Im not sure about the Sensation, but make a backup of the file and try deleting it to see if it helps
AOSP had the same problem, but it could be slightly better.
I will try google backup transport.
i have the same problem with AOSP based roms, i normally get around 7-9 hours from a AOSP rom (even tho i have an extended battery) but im currently using rdejager's miui sense rom (undervolted by -100) and im can normally get around 24-30hours from one charge
I flashed Cyanogenmod (opensensation) and i'm really happy with it. I also formatted sd card. Android OS is working normall for now, but it might come back (usualy does :S)
Also i'm buying an anker battery, so i hope the problem is solved!
Otherwise JB must solve it right?
audio out_3 ? you can uncheck Key tone,or download One Power Guard or It will give you some optimization tips.

massive battery drain without visible reason ?

Hi there,
many of you will think: "OMG, another drain thread". But this one is special, and really weird. I noticed a significantly lesser screen-on-time on the last days (1 - 1.5h instead of 2.5 - 3.5h). I have changed nothing before, no new apps, no updates... I couldn't identify a cause for this drain with the usual tools due to high usage, so i charged the phone and left it at the desk overnight. the battery drained overnight 80% in 8 hours, and there were nearly no wakelocks, the phone was in deepsleep the whole time (98%). My first thought was, that somehow my omnirom installation was derping, so i wiped dalvik & cache and flashed the rom again without a full wipe (without custom kernel). that didn't fix the problem, so i made a full backup, wiped the complete device (bootloader lock and unlock), reflashed stock google rom (flash_all.bat, so modem etc. is uptodate, too). the drain occured with stock google rom, too. After that, i restored my backup, wiped cache, system and dalvik. after that, the drain still occured, so i thought about a hardware fault and doing a RMA. But since yesterday, the problem is gone as nothing had happened...
So: Is it possible, that the drain was caused somehow by the modem and the cellular provider has fu**ed something up real bad ? A friend of mine has the same problem now (stock google), he resides a few kilometres away in the same town...
edit: reception is quite good, 4G 3-4 bars of five
The last time I had this type of drain it was due to an xposed mod

XZ 41.3.A.2.128 excessive battery drain

Anyone experiencing excessive battery drain with the May patch update? Android system drains the battery too much. I just reset my phone 2 days ago, installed my usual apps, updated the system and then this happens now. Any fix on this?
Hello,
It's actually a well known problem in the community
1. I have submitted a report to Sony and request them to release a software update to fix the Kernel
- which means that our best chance here is to hope it is fixed with an update, the root cause is the Kernel not being optimized
2. I am on the verge of snapping this phone in half as I asked around the community and received no answers , been trying to fix this for 1 year straight

Out of the blue: A factory reset could help.
You definitely have a problem that your phone does not idle (look at my screenshots (v ..128):
idle (Ruhezustand) should always be in the top three).
One of your messengers might the culprit.
Try to disable them all and switch them on one after another to find a possible culprit.
Hi,
I too have these issues. Did you manage to workout which app was at fault?
Yes, another case here. We are still investigating the problem and checking if it's some app or system itself. Most of battery was used by android system and battery was empty in 11 hours.
Problems started with 41.3.A.2.128.
So is it worth updating?

In our case problem was either facebook or whatsapp. Both remove/disabled and now battery lasts as always.
Yes, it is horrible!! I woke up at 7 am, took my phone off the charger and never made a call, or even turned on wifi. I came back from being outside around 11:30 and I was down to %34!! Without the phone having done nothing but sit there and recieve 2 missed calls and 5 text messages!! I usually get 2-3 days on a charge with my XZS depending what I am doing. Needs to be fixed and fast!!!!
Dont factory reset, because the battery issue will not go away for rom issues.
But the "Messages" app do look suspicious for 5%.
There are some devs like to tell people factory reset for everything first and even reset for regular stock rom updates.
Its a bit excessive, like formatting Windows for every time it crashes or even for every Windows updates... Unless you enjoy restoring data & apps.
Should try something to troubleshoot and fix it first before resetting, so we know whats wrong.
The battery drain on idle is slightly better after a week, but we still have to wait and see.
i have problems too, with last existenz with this version battery its a joke
