I think I messed up my battery statistics - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After I upgraded to lollipop, I used battery calibrator from the market to clear all statistics and start fresh. Today when I go to look at battery statistics it tells me that none are available. I'm certain something got cleared and cannot be restored. Can anyone advise what to look at to fix? I have root access.

Why clear battery stats?

I thought it would be good with the version change. It seems to have mysteriously come back after I accessed it a couple of times. So everything is now good.

Clearing battery stats is completely useless and does nothing except clear the stats. It won't affect your battery or anything else at all.

Added to which, the stats clear every time you charge the device anyway

Why does the battery % drastically drop upon a reboot?

Example: my battery says 50%, I reboot, and now it's down to about 40%.
What's the deal? Anyone else have this problem?
I'm running Das BAMF 1.6.2, stock kernel.
I've noticed since I got the tbolt day one. Im in the 15% range when reboot. My screen freeze after lightning strike for 3 minutes. Was hoping the new update would fix it but update now delayed. Never again will I be the first in line for phone.

The percentage drops but it stays at whatever that percentage is for an hour or five depending on how much I'm using my phone.
because your battery gauge is lying to you and not reporting accurately prior to reboot.

Thought I had commented on this, whoops.
So have you calibrated your battery since flashing 1.6.2?
If not you need to do so, as this will fix your issue, and help your battery life.

What do you use to calibrate it? Wiping the battery stats?
Check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871051
Basically the meter is lying because keeping your phone at 100% while charged is not so good for long term life of the battery. So once you get a full charge it doesn't keep the battery full, and when you take it off the charger the meter quickly catches up to reality.
So don't worry, it's supposed to happen this way.

There's an app on the Market called BatteryCalibration, works well.

There are several threads explaining this but you just:
-Charge to 100% and boot into recovery
-Select advanced>wipe battery stats
-Use phone normally until battery dies and it powers off
-Charge back up to 100% (preferably while still off)
Edit- if you are running das bamf you can also clear them from the toolkit.

It will fix the issue that the OP is having of the phone dropping % drastically when they reboot. If you are talking about the phone dropping from 100 to 95% or so after you unplug, then no it won't, because that is actually a safety feature that you do not want to fix, unless of course you want to burn your phone up.

No problem, if that is what you want then doing a battery stats wipe will do that. It should be done actually everytime you change ROMs or upgrade a ROM.
Just follow Dirtyfingers instructions, or use a Battery Calibration app from the market

Man, don't say that in the dev area, or the irc. There was someone named Confucius on there yesterday reaming people for wiping battery stats. It wasn't pretty.

No your phone stores how long it takes to die charge etc. and when you change roms these stats obviously change and therefore wiping the stats allows the phone to really calibrate to the new rom. At least I think that's how it is.

This happens to me and it annoys me everytime it does it. I dont know why for some reason this is a recurring thing with HTC phones.
My battery drops 10-15% rather quickly when I unplug it but I believe this is actually normal with newer Li-Ion charging techniques.
Mine drops about 5% after a reboot. I reset my batteries stats today and hope that will improve my battery life, but I must say I got about 8 eight hours today with fairly heavy use and a few reboots.

[Q] wake lock issues? (solved)

Been having battery issues lately. Its seems really bad today, dropping a few percent in ten minutes.
Running sinless ROM currenty... But I was using others before.
I checked the battery stats and nothing odd stood out, so I am thinking a wake lock is causing issues. Never had this issue, so not sure on how to diagnose the issue. Any advice?
Update:
Using the app mentioned in the thread below... I discovered the Facebook app was making a lot of wakelocks.
I don't use the app much, I even have updates and notifications disabled for it... But still.
Not sure if the cause was restoring the app and its settings from a titanium backup or not. With it uninstalled I am doing good. So I will need to reinstall and start it from scratch, then I will see what happens.
If it is just the app being crappy, I will use chrome browser to check it on the phone, not like I use FB much...
Install wake lock detector from playstore.. Charge your mobile fully and leave it untouched for an hour or two...
Now open wake lock detector and see what's causing the drain!
Here's the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector

Thanks... So far nothing odd, I even enabled advanced mode so I could see system services as well.
Charging showed a rapid increase in charge. 5% in just a couple minutes... With a 850mah charger I have sitting around at work.
Seems way too fast from my experience. So the battery stats may be screwy from all the ROM switching. May need to wipe those.
Can TWRP do that, or is there a simple way to go about it? I have done it in recovery on older devices... Never on the N5 and not in over a year.

No need to wipe battery stats... They get reset after you've fully charged your device.. Clearing them doesn't do any good. AFAIK, CWM has even removed that option from it's settings!

If that is the case... I may need to switch to factory stock for a bit and see what happens.

Calibrating Pixel Battery

Recently, my Pixel has started dying when the battery level still shows 15-20%. It doesn't even enter battery saver mode anymore (triggered at 15%). What is the best method to get the system to recalibrate the battery on a Pixel? I've read about clearing the cache partition on other devices, but the Pixel doesn't have one, and I don't see anything battery-related in /data/cache. I'm pretty sure deleting batterystats.bin has been entirely debunked. I've run through several complete charge-recharge cycles to try to reset it without success. Any other ideas?

I use the reset battery statistics feature in HEBF Optimizer app and I've made a habit out of just doing this after every flashing of a new rom once I hit 100% battery

I assume this just erases the batterystats.bin file, which only stores which apps are responsible for power usage. Unfortunately that's not going to help me.

Fair assumption, but I would try it regardless. And even if the feature in particular doesn't help the app overall is one I highly recommend and would almost categorize as a root essentials app

Did you ever find a solution? I am starting to see the same problem on my Pixel.
I'd love to hear if a solution was found.

No, unfortunately it just got worse and worse, with it shutting off typically between 50-60% charge (but sometimes as high as 85%!), and overheating like crazy. I finally contacted Google about it and they issued me a refurbished phone as a replacement. Just wish I would have contacted them sooner!

battery drainer

Any one run into this wakelock? It's driving me crazy. Google didn't give me much to work with.
That showed up on GSam battery app and I disabled it through there.

Did you notice an improvement in battery after you disabled it? Ever since the Oreo update I'm having to charge during the day where it wasn't an issue before.
We shall see, I just disabled it when I sent the reply. My battery life has not been nearly as good either.
That is actually the dreaded "Carrier IQ" crap that att always try to hide on your device. It definitely helps to disable it for both privacy and battery.

I ended up removing all of my Google accounts, restarting and then added them all back. That seemed to do the trick. For some reason, that seemed to fix the android system from using so much battery. What's frustrating is that I had factory reset before but that did not seem to fix anything.

If your SOT run time is normal, the battery is most likely ok.
There are edits you can do if rooted but that's beyond my knowledge as to where/how to access them.
Otherwise try a battery calibration by charging to 100%, run until low battery shutdown, repeat.

Use the battery voltage to estimate the charge state of the battery.
If all that's wrong is a misreading you could just adapt to it.
You can try a hard reset (simulates pulling battery) and clearing the system cache but I doubt that will help. Worth a try.

It simulates pulling the battery and doesn't touch any data.
It's usually done but holding the volume control and power buttons down until it reboots on my N10+ if I recall correctly. It's hard to find this with a Google search but the instructions are out there, somewhere.
Of course if you have physical access to the battery you can simply disconnect/reconnect it.

On rooted phones there's a file edit you can do to fix that. I've seen it on XDA before. It doesn't apply to me so it was a curiosity.
Sorry I can recall the thread or file name.
Try this.
Try this Google search: fix battery percentage, xda rooted
Or something similar.
