[Q] How should I: 5.0 to 5.0.1? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys,
I've got a question. Google just published the factory images of 5.0.1. for Nexus 4 & 6. Therefore, I assume the Nexus 5 will follow soon as well. I'd like to how the best way for me to update to 5.0.1. which is critical for me as texting isnt working at the moment.
I'm now on:
Rooted 5.0 stock
Franco kernel
I don't want to do another factory reset, so what would be the best way to update to 5.0.1. without losing data.. ?
Thanks in advance!

There are upgrade guides galore, as well as a ridiculous amount of answered help threads on this topic...
Regarding your SMS/MMS not working properly.
- Check that your phone's selected APN and your messaging app's APN selection match.

I'm sorry, but I did do a quick search.. but I don't know exactly what to do since I'm running custom kernel as well. Regarding the sms thing.. that's going to be solved with 5.0.1. as it's the texting bug which causes Dutch Vodafone users unable to send.

AT&T LG G2 update (not Kit Kat)

Looks like att is rolling out an update right now. Here is a link about it:
http://m.androidcentral.com/att-lg-g2-gets-quick-15mb-update-support-future-updates
I have included a screenshot also.
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
As usual kids, if you've rooted and put on a custom recovery or otherwise modified your ROM, DO NOT UPDATE.
And if you plan on rooting in the future, I also advise you to not update. See if the new version can be rooted with the current tools. Loki and the adb exploit have changed on some of the later versions.
LOL
Updating from 10o to 10q.
I don't have high hope seeing KK anytime soon.
Let's see.
Anyone have the radio from the update? I read that there is a new baseband...
I just got this also. Don't see much difference
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Just when i was about to root and install a custom rom too....i'll see how this version is. Hopefully it fixes the battery drain AT&T background apps have been causing.
Anyone know how to turn off the auto update? I just downloaded like 750mb without realizing it. That's not cool.

Can you post the screenshot?
I just want to see whether the baseband different.
Update: ignore my post, overlook the OP one.
Anyway, based on what OP posted, only Software version changed from 10o to 10q, the baseband is the same.
Auto Download & Install
My G2 automatically downloaded this update and tried to install it, but caused a boot-loop with TWRP.
It was charging in another room so I had not accepted any requests to update, if there were any.
It is fixed, but I am angry that it downloaded and attempted to INSTALL the update on its own.
This is true!!! Only message I got was installing in 30 sec
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
the update only has the support for future updates for the g2,meaning, that it is most likely setting up for the 4.4 update. who knows when thats gonna happen though. hopefully soon
I guess this explains why my phone mysteriously booted into TWRP and i went into a bootloop while the phone was in my pocket during a meeting. I was able to fix it by following this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696 Hope this helps anyone in need.

Benefits of flashing stock 4.4.4 rom

Hello,
I am currently running SlimKat stable build 7 with elemental x. My nexus 5 has been unlocked, rooted and been running custom roms since 4.4.1. I have flashed the 4.4.4. Radio recently and it's been working good.
Will i benefit from flashing a stock Rom apart from the Radio?? Will flashing stock fix any bugs I might have even though I'v e been running SlimKat with no problems at all.
Thanks.

I must admit I simply don't understand what you're getting at here. You say Slimkat is running good, why change it? If you go to stock you'll lose features. Most ROMs are about as stable as stock by now anyways.
and radios and roms are completely unrelated. you can flash whatever custom rom, none of them include radios. radios are a separate flash.
Very true. SlimKat at has been really stable for me. Its more of planning for the next Android OS release. Maybe something I'm not seeing or experiencing but might cause problems later on.
Thanks.

This is my point exactly, even though I flashed the radio, it doesn't apply to the Rom and it's features.

I understand I'll lose the features, but maybe there are certain "codes" that the stock Rom has and custom does not.
You are right though, most custom roms are very stable already.

As far as I know, there's no good reason to return to stock. People still on stock generally have had problems in the past with other ROMs and prefer the guaranteed stability of stock. I know Franco one of our kernel developers uses stock with his kernels and his reason given was because it's the only ROM that can support everyone the way he intended and guarantees it works properly.

This is why I am on stock. Seems like everytime I go with a custom ROM I eventually end up getting annoying system UI FCs. Very rarely ever get it on stock. Would love to ask what ROMs are the most stable so I can experiment, but alas that's not allowed so I'll stick with stock, but rooted.

I'm not familiar with Rastakat, so how is their history with ROM development? I ask because I don't want to flash it and then before long they just stop official development (like what happened with CyanogenMod on my Moto G).

[Q] Android update for custom ROM's.

Hi guys am using Nexus 5. And i have rooted it and flashed liquid smooth ROM. Now my concern is that wil i get lollypop update automatically as soon released by google? or should i haave to flash factory default ROM?
1. Does not belong in General section
2. There are threads regarding OTAs which can be found in the first thread of my signature, which is a sticky
3. There are dedicated Lollipop threads
4. No and yes
Why do people think they will get an ota from Google when they are running custom firmware?

Are you also concerned about updates when there are new versions of SlimROM? Or Paranoid Android? Cyanogenmod? You shouldn't be because those are ROMs that you're not currently using. In the end, the Google image is just another TOM.

[Q] Nexus 5 Upgrade from v4.4.4 to v5.02

There are lots of posts but none that answer my question.
Coming from rooted stock v4.4.4 and unlocked bootloader on a Nexus 5:
Is it best to unroot & lock it down, then do the OTA's and then re root and unlock to get stock v5.02?
OR
Do I save myself countless steps and just format and flash a non stock v5.02 rom?
As much as I apreciate all of the hard work of the custom rom dev's, With the Nexus 5 it's the first device I've been quite happy with stock and xposed and not feeding the flashaholic I used to be.
Surely someone has been down this road and could offer sugestions.
Thank you for your time.

First, there is no 5.0.2 stock firmware. If you're 100 stock now with only root just unroot then take the ota. If you've got modified system files then flash the 4.4.4 system.img. There is no need to lock the device.
Oh, and there is no xposed for 5.x

So I read the above thread, for the Nexus 5 and I am honestly confused. How do I flash a stock rom without being rooted in the first place? Don't you have to be rooted to have TWRP installed on your device? Cause I am interested installing Preview 2, fully stocked, but I'm confused how to achieve this, so if someone could share a method on how to do this via a Mac, id appreciate it.

The only thing needed to install another ROM is a custom recovery. Users can flash ROMs as they please without having root. Root is only required initially for most devices to unlock bootloaders or the equivalent, which is only necessary to allow users to install a custom recovery.

It doesn't bother me actually, just I didn't thought that could be an issue keeping my language (for some reasons, I thought that the developer preview came only in English and I was quite surprised when it suggested me Italian after unlocking the SIM).

You probably wiped your recovery with stock one in fastboot. You can just re-use fastboot to install TWRP over stock.
Android Auto Map Permissions?
There can't be many people on Preview 3 who use Android Auto, but I'll throw it out there...anyone else running into an issue with navigation in Android Auto complaining about location permissions? It suggests granting Maps the location permission, which of course it has. I can navigate fine directly from the Maps app, but in AA I just get the screen with that error.
Anyone else having problems with 6.0.1
I can't get root to work.
I dirty flashed 6.0.1 acoording to instruktions, reboot installs elemental x kernel reboot and tries to install supersu 2.5.2. But it gets stuck att the boot animation.
I tried re flashing 6.0.1 again and install the kernel provided by stephan but twrp can't install the zip, I get a update failed.
Anyone hav any tips on how to root 6.0.1 preferably without wiping the the phone. Should I flash 2.6.2? But the instructions for that means that I need to wipe and reflash?
