Voice Calls distorted when connected to WIFI & LTE - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
wanted to gauge a response from the Z3 members here whether they are also having the same issues that I, and a number of other Z3 owners are facing, wherein voice calls are distorted and muffled on my end (I can't make out what the other person on the line is saying) but the person on the other side of the call can hear me fine. This only occurs when:
1) WIFI is on and connected
2) LTE is enabled and connected
Other points to note: I'm in Melbourne, Australia metro area and on the Optus network. One workaround I have found is if I want to use WIFI - I need to switch from LTE/4G to GSM Only in my network options.
I have exchanged my Z3 4 times now and the same occurred on all 4 devices. My wife's Z3 compact is also encountering the same issue.
The issue has been raised in the Sony Talk support forum here but has not had any positive traction at all..
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z3-Z3-Dual/xperia-Z3-and-Z3c-Distorted-Voice-Calls-When-Connected-to-WIFI/m-p/901071#U901071
Have added a poll to see how many other users are facing this issue so that Sony can pull their finger out their a55es and fix the issue!

Hi all, looks like the update 23.0.1.A.5.77 just released has fixed the issue with distorted calls when connected to WIFI+LTE! I've installed it on both my Z3 and my wife's Z3 compact (which was also facing the same issue) and the calls are now all crisp and clear when connected to both WIFI and LTE at the same time. Also, looks like I'm getting better reception too. Wonder what else was fixed/introduced as part of the update.

I have noticed this from my WIFI calling on T-Mobile Version. LTE I have no issues... however any WIFI calling has been pretty damn poor to date. I hope they will release a similar update to fix this issue!

My Pixel has random choppy call quality

I am experiencing what I can best describe as "choppy" call quality on my Google Pixel. I have been using Verizon for over a decade and I've never had any problems with their reception on any phone, and I've owned quite a few (Motorola and Samsung phones). I purchased a Pixel from google webstore and I've been using it for about a month. Since I've owned it I noticed that I will randomly get instances where during a call the reception will become choppy, I'll only be able to understand every other word the person says. The people on the other end of the line also have the same problem hearing me. During these calls I noticed that the reception is fine according to my cell phone bars. I also noticed that the call almost never drops, it just becomes choppy. I'm relucant to blame this on Verizon because I've never had any problems with them. The reception in my area is great with Verizon (I've been at this address for years). My questions are; Do any other Pixel owners on Verizon have this problem? If so how do you fix it? I've tried several useless tips that I found on other websites, things like, "try restarting your phone" or "try specifying your preferred network as CDMA/LTE". None of that makes this go away. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Is it possible this is your first experience with HD calls? Poor reception on HD calls sounds different than on regular calls much like how analog TV static on analog broadcast was replaced with pixelated images with digital broadcast in poor reception areas.

I don't know if this is my first experience with HD calls. How do I find that out? My previous phone was a Samsung S4 Mini, it was a 4G LTE phone. I never had any problems with that phone.'
EDIT:
Okay, found the setting. In the Pixel it is called Advanced Calling. It was on. I'll turn it off and see if that helps.
It's only used if you're calling another Verizon customer who has a capable phone with the feature enabled. The dialer app says "HD VOICE CALL" or something similar once the call is underway.

Okay, I've had this feature disabled for over a week and I haven't had any of the choppy call quality that I was seeing. Your solution seems to have worked. I'll keep this feature disabled for a bit longer and report back.
That's great that it helped but a bummer that it doesn't work well for you. I've found the few calls I make that are able to use HD voice are quite a lot clearer.

T-Mobile 1+ 7 Pro call quality issues

Am I the only one out there experiencing severe call quality issues? My phone (T-Mobile OnePlus 7 Pro) is suffering from severe call quality issues.
I seem to be having the issue with the following configurations in an attempt to narrow down / in on the issue:
Galaxy Buds (BT Headset) = Calls on Wifi Calling, Regular LTE and WhatsApp calls. Broken audio (stuttering)
Direct Phone microphone (on handset) = Calls on Wifi Calling, Regular LTE and WhatsApp calls. Broken audio (stuttering) / Drop-outs
Purchased USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter to wired headset = Severe Echo on Wifi Calling, Regular LTE and WhatsApp.
I've tried driving into range of another tower and experience these same problems. I picked up my daughter's iphone X and on the same towers and wifi network, these problems don't exist. The call quality is pristine.
On my Note 8/9 (can't remember what the current one is, but I own it), the problems don't exist in these same configurations. The problem is clearly local to the OnePlus 7 Pro. I've done the "clear cache, reset networking, reset wifi" solutions and they don't seem to help. At this point, I'm wondering if it's a bad phone or just bad software.
I'm at my wit's end and pretty much feeling buyer's regret right now, because I so wanted to love this phone, but it's caused me more heartache than ever. Obviously, the phone is up to date on the most recent version of T-Mobile firmware, but I can't possibly imagine a phone could be so bad at doing what a phone does and pass the certification lab for the carrier and get the amazing reviews that exist on the web.
I'm a few minutes away from just going back out to the store and buying a new Galaxy S(whatever is the most recent)+
**frustrated** and **confused**
Lol..
Incredible cell reception and call quality here, on international stock, the weird part for me is it sounds worse on VoLTE and Wifi calling. Regular voice calls are outstanding.
But if you have both of those disabled and the call quality is that bad, I would exchange/return it.

Call quality is excellent for me as is reception. TMO on TMO Rom. My only issue is DUO freezes the person on the other end for me. Its only been to the same person so far but that is my only issue
You have done soft reset, but try to do a hard reset(erase everything instead of clearing cache). That helped with some crackling noise but.
Call quality not even in the same ball park as my tmobile note 9.
I also had issues with my OP 7 pro. Specifically on speakerphone wife could not hear me at all. I was on the international variant + T-Mobile. I ended up sending it back. Bought the OP 7 and have the exact same issues. I sold me OP 6T tp upgrade to the 7 series. I ended up finding a used OP6T in offerup. Popped the SIM card in. No call quality issues and people can hear me just fine when in speaker phone and driving. I usually have my phone placed in the center console in my car. So for me this is the primary way to talk. It sad that the OP 7 series has these issues. I was really hoping they would fix this in a software update. Still handing on to the OP 7 praying for a fix. But I may just end up selling it on swappa.
Have you guys tried to get a replacement? I don't have any problem with call quality. I use Bluetooth headset or reg phone on ear way most of the time, and rarely on speaker.
I had that problem on the T-Mobile variant and when I converted it to the international firmware it doesn't have that problem now
My call quality is really good sometimes. Some times, it'll have weird moments where I get muted or the other person does. Speaker phone mic sucks real bad though. I hate using speaker phone if I need both hands to do something, so I ordered a bluetooth headset.

I primarily use the speakerphone for calls so this is kind of a show stopper for me. Desperately looking for a fix. Might have to sell mine on swappa.

That's probably why you aren't experiencing the issues we are seeing. Its mainly on the speakerphone. I am currently using a op 6t until I can find a fix. I don't have any issues on the 6t.

Telephone signal bug?

Hello, I'd like to buy a X2 Pro, but while searching some reviews on the web I noticed that many users complain about a terrible bug which affects signal phone...
Precisely, in areas with weak signal, the phone goes to 2g network, and then you have to reboot to gain again full access to 4g/5g...
Others complain about calls closed suddenly during the talking.
Anyone with those problems?
I hope they fixed them with Android 11 updated.
It did happen to me once or twice while being literally in the middle of nowhere that the Oppo remained on 2G while there was 4G available, even though it was not very stable. At the same time the Samsung I use for work managed to keep up 4G nonetheless, and both phones are on the same carrier network (Telekom Germany). So I guess if you happen to live in a REALLY remote/rural area this might be a problem, but other than that I never noticed anything, same goes for calls being interrupted.

Question The person I am calling hears me little or no sound.

Hi .
I have a question about the Samsung Galaxy S 22 Ultra.
I have a problem with phone calls, so the person I am calling hears me very little or not at all.
Reconnecting helps.
I have 5G and VoLte enabled.
Have any of you noticed similar problems?
I had similar and would also have a period where the call went blank. Turned off volte and all good
Is there a chance that it will be fixed somehow or the matter is more serious?
Because I do not hide that I would like to use these options.
I also had deaf connections
It's not cool that you cannot use these functions for the phone to work properly.
Well I am in the sage of a 5 g signal so can't be sure if its was an issue with the signal strength. I don't know if this is a widely know issue either

Which carrier do you use?
I had a 5G range to the maximum in the Polish Plus GSM network.
I live in the center of a larger city so coverage is great.
I already know a few people who have a similar problem.
It's about a phone with Exynos
Disabling the VoLte service helps, but I didn't spend so much money not to use it.
Even on the earlier Note 8, I had VoLte and everything worked.
I tested it on several networks and everywhere with Volte turned on the phone causes connection problems. Every fifth call is of poor quality or the other party cannot hear me.
