Considering that Ouya will be built with the same CPU/GPU/RAM specs as the Infinity, I feel like it's safe to assume that if it does even moderately well, we'll be getting to see a lot of games that truly push our hardware. We've seen many Tegra 3 games come out so far - some incredible, some disappointing, but overall not a bad start for high quality mobile gaming.
If the Ouya does really well, the TF700 gamers may wind up with an insane catalog of games that most people will only be playing at home with any decent quality. It could make the TF700 a very good competitor for portable gaming. I'm kind of excited to see what happens, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up before we start seeing the actual production of the Ouya and developer support that follows.
What is everyone's thoughts on the matter? Any specific games announced so far that your excited for?
Also, it's been said that the talked about Oculus Rift will have Android support later on, though I have no clue if much would come of that.
Nvida's tegra push did narrow my field of tablet options some. I would love to see higher end games and a more PC-like set of tools (more control options, more performance scaling, more flexibility in general), and nvidia seems to have their eye on something similar. No one Android maker has the clout or sales to make android a more serious gaming platform right now, but nvidia might. They've got a certain credibility with players and producers that stands out and raises a particular set of expectations that even the biggest maker, Samsung, can't bring to the table.
While Ouya can bring more living room games to the fold, perhaps more controller utilization, the Nexus 7 might be equally influential at broadening support through sheer numbers. Storage is the main handicap, but it still has lots of potential.
That said, I don't expect much from even a best case scenario. Game investment is a lot more complicated than many players seem to realize. My favorite small dev is trying to fund an expansion of the best Tower Defense ever through kickstarter and its not uncommon for someone to accuse them of unconscionable greed for not being able to completely self-fund from the proceeds of their first game -- this while storied studios backed by major pubs are closing their doors. It's a struggle for survival out there. Small devs doing high end original content are taking huge risks.
Best case here is more big studios/publishers start testing the waters at tegra 3 and actually produce a serious and well stocked platform at tegra 4 or 5. Infinity should have more gaming options than her predecessors, but I doubt she'll be a gaming beast.
Not likely. Ouya, at this point, is more about the idea of trying to bring the independent developers to the living room with less cost through the Android platform. As eluded to, it costs a lot of money to make AAA games on the consoles or PC. I've chosen to back them, but I'm skeptical. I think Ouya may be redundant, as you're indirectly eluding, since all you need is the microHDMI cable and blue tooth controller. It's just a matter of the game developers adding the code for the controllers.
One thing is certain, there is market for games on the mobile platform--Android and iOS--beyond these "casual" games such as Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies, Bejweled, Words with Friends, Draw Something, and so forth. There's some indication people may want a more traditional console/PC game with some decent success of games like Shadowgun and Dead Trigger, and so forth; sorry I wasn't able to list a more diverse list, but I don't play many mobile games. Add that up, with more powerful mobile devices, you'll see the games improve. Just don't quite expect a game to look like PS3/360 game, nor give you that over ten hours game experience with cut scenes and so forth. Well, not while people are complaining about games being over a dollar, and piracy being very easy to do, like the old days on the PC.
On a side note, you may see something you're thinking with technology that OnLive is developing. That has the potentional to bring the similar game experience across multiple game platforms. I use it on the PC and my HTC Evo 4G. I tried it out on a buddy's Nexus 7.
On a side note, I did see EA did an update for Dead Space for the Nexus 7, so some developers are thinking about tablets.
I noticed that the UDK supports Android (it specifically mentions honeycomb though) which might indicate at least an industry consideration for such focus. As far as indies go, frameworks like this being offered to small-time devs will provide the potential for an Android "real gaming console". The estimated price of specifically the Ouya would make for other poorer countries to acquire and put as a target platform for development, in which case Android focus could increase world-wide (PS3 for R$1100 or Ouya for R$400?). I'm still skeptical, but the distribution of the system globally will really tell who's going to make it into a priority. If the saturation gets high enough, everyone will be jumping on that wagon.

First of all Not sure if this is where it should be i thought putting this in off topic was too far from the point and reading through other threads it didn't seem to fit anywhere, Anyway i'll post it here anyway i would like to think most people on this website would appreciate this and see if i have to valid points and some cool things to show you maybe.
I would firstly like to start with some cool Android game consoles being developed by a company called JXD http://www.jxd.hk/ they're other companies doing this (not as good and more expensive) in my opinion but i'll supply information for you do to your own researched at the bottom of this thread.
Anyway This is the newest console released the S7300 just released a day ago it's quite amazing system and extremely cheap ( older models if you have a budget to test these out starting as low as $20 - $40 USD) This latest one is about $150 it's android the specs are listed here
As you can see the device has possibility for some good gaming and a start to some innovative ideas and maybe bigger companies creating devices similar to this.
What is the point?
Well i was a huge user of my Xperia play and Galaxy s3 which i recently sold for a Android iphone 5 rip off mainly because it looked good worked great and was light enough to go jogging without it annoying me, but this gave me a lack of gaming which i love about my android mobile so i decided to look for an android gaming device it took an hour or so but i found hundreds some on ebay some on random websites, after separating the over priced devices and the ones with poor design and bad hardware i found a website or 2 with the device i was going to purchase, and after looking all day i found there is a good start to this android gaming, but how come it hasn't set off bigger or faster yet, i find it a shame.
What to do?
Well many may disagree but this is the only website i use for anything remotely android related, but i was thinking if XDA could add apart of the forum for unpopular devices such as these underground branded ( Non rip off android devices and the emerging gaming android console and devices ) to increase the speed it picks up i believe if we have people talking about it more and helping sharing in customized apps themes etc... it might help set off the community to use it more which may encourage developers to add more support.
I mean Why Not! we have tablets but everything seems to be big brands Sony, Samsung, Apple, Nokia, i thought this was a website for unlocking your device for better use and doing things with it the majority of us think is "Cool".

for one the touch screen isn't the out dated touch resistant most others use.
First to have an actual dual analog joysticks! and not like the xperia play with the stupid touch slide which i found tedious after a day of use.

It has a dual core mali 400, and a dual core a9 clocked at 1.5, it should run most games other mali 400 devices run. I pre ordered one and now waiting for it. I hope it gets popular enough to have a community and a few custom rom builds. It has quite decent specs for emulation(main purpose its being promoted for) and should run almost every game on the android market. The main issue with JDX devices is battery life (is why I hope for custom roms), but the device claims to come pre rooted, you can see pictures of it supposedly having play store support, so if a community does surge for it it could be as popular as the kindle in terms of a dedicated community interested in custom android builds that support better battery use and remove some of its bloatware. im replacing the free 8g card ill get for pre ordering with a 32(64 if it takes it) card and have a decent 40gig snes/ps1 emulation device with touch controls that will let me do the basic things i do on my phone. Since i plan to tether it from my phone, I'm aiming to keep my phone pocketed the whole time, Headset calls, redirect texts to the JXD, and play/browse on the 7 inch screen so if a call comes in my gaming wont be interrupted something that ruins some games that reboot when a call comes in.
Maybe Padone 2 ? over 7k mAh, four core etc... Nothing but fine gaming devices with possibilities
They should make a special section in the forum for JXD Devices. Especially for developers that wants to help with making the device easier to use.

No, it's not been improved any, from what it was.
Well, I hadn't played the JP version but I can say the Play controls work well enough but the lag is **** awful. Messing with settings right now but even no sound and low resolution don't seem to do the trick.
Would certainly not recommend this at $9.00. If you have an overclocked device give it a go but I can't find a way to make it run like anything but ass on stock.
Holy ****! Wish there was a demo to try.

Game runs fine here on stock GB, sim free, rooted uk R800i, no lag, no sound issues, looks, plays and sounds as good as the DC original.
Slide the pnone open and you can use the D-Pad, and screen buttons or mix it up and use touch for move, and physical buttons.
Dunno what your issues are, but it's fine here.
Maybe reboot your device, or clear some crap from your phone/check whats running when the game is played..
And run G-Gee offline, that's more bother than it's worth.
I bought the Japanese version, which sits at game version 1.0.0, same as the Western version, it's just the G-Gee programme that was updated, not the game with the recent update a couple of days ago/Western Release.
Not ideal but playable on my xplay, levels work great, but some slowdown during the first two bosses.
Perspective is very disorienting

Cook, but a couple of inconsistencies with your review(on your site).
The ships are white and black, not red and blue, same with bullets(although the black bullets do have a red.hue to them).
And please don't mention the Gamecube version, it was an abomination, IMO.
It may be a shooter, in the sense you shoot things, but it's more of a bullet ballet, and memory game, as knowing where and when to chain, is vital, for a decent score/decent game, with attack patterns and boss patterns having to be foremost to enjoy the game.
Also, as you know, the game is available around the world, so you don't need market enabler any more to buy it.
And if you play with the network disabled/internet off, G-Gee doesn't hinder gameplay, and you get a screen that you just press the "Play" button to get to the game.
EspGaluda II and DoDonPachi Resurrection are another two titles worthy of your money, to add to your shooter collection, BTW.
Cool, thanks for the feedback. I made the video review a while ago for another site but it was never used. I decided to branch out on my own and I needed a starter article while I work on other aspects of the site so I threw that up real quick. Of course that very day the Global version comes out, I figured it would be best to leave the references in there seeing as how it was the japanese version I originally reviewed. I probably should update it though.
Well hopefully someone gets a video of it running on the Play because even after a clean reboot it runs terrible on my device. How do you run G-Gee offline btw?

Brian, click on Legion's link to his site..he has it running on Android in the video in his review, it's not a Play it's on, but that's how mine runs, smooth, no lag, and plays just fine with the D-Pad slid out, and using the onscreen buttons for fire/change, and laser.
As to G-Gee, Just disable your wifi or your data connection.
Start Ikaruga, the G-Gee screen appears, and it should then go to a blank screen, with something like "Network Error", or "No Network", in the middle, with a logo top left, and as *mine is the Japanese version*, on the top right, I assume it says "Play Game",
Hit that, game starts, and to end it, long press on the back button and select Exit.
This, and DoDonPachi Resurrection, and EspGaluda II all run fine offline with wifi/network disabled.
In the video it runs quite a bit better than it does on my device but there is still a lot of choppiness. I'd love to see that same phone playing level 5 since each level (due to the increasing amount of enemies) runs slower and slower for me. Either way, if mine ran as well as the device in the video I'd probably be a lot less angry but I still wouldn't call it a great or even good port.

Ok sure. That is a Galaxy S3 right? It does not perform to my liking on an incredibly high end phone even though the hardware is more than capable had more work been put in to the port. JSR, Expendables, Crazy Taxi on the i-products have all translated well to newer devices (not using the Play as a benchmark here, keep in mind). It is a $9.00 application that is attached to a social networking program, something which I find very irritating. There are no game-play limitations like you would have in Ikaruga for the DC or GC since the game defaults to free-play with a level selector. Changing resolution settings and turning sound off does very little to help with performance which screams of bad port. When playing at the lowest settings the frame-rate becomes incredibly jerky since the game does not have a very good frame limiter. DDP and Espgaluda 2 both worked great on my device but this port clearly has not received as much love.
Works relatively well in my one x, it jinks a bit here and there, but it's mostly very playable.

It performs just fine on Xperia Play, so something must be wrong at your end, either bloatware on your phone, or your operator rom/custom rom is rubbish, something interfering with it like apps/software running, or your memory card is either fragmented, or just plain slow.
I use a 32gb class 10 card, stock uk r800i sim free, no bloatware, rooted, a couple of sound mods edited build.prop, and nothing else.
Once you get past the "social networking" programme, the game itself runs directly from the SD card, hence the 170+meg download, it doesn't run from the phone, the .apk that is a couple of megabytes is G-Gee's app, with a link to the game.
The ports fine, it's designed for touch phones/tablets, what more do you expect?
The chaining/gameplay is something that was intended to use buttons and a stick, not swipe controls and 3 areas of touch for fire/lock on/change, but with the phone open the D-pad works well, and the on screen buttons work fine for their purpose.
As to free play, how many people do you imagine want to sit for 10+ hours or whatever it was to unlock things, and up their credits, like the original.?
You don't have to continue, you don't have to pick other levels other than the first, but for those who do, who maybe never unlocked everything, or can't/don't play for hours, it's perfect.
As to your earlier slowdown point, you are aware the original version had deliberate slowdown, and this is present in this version also, which leads me to think this is closer to the original version more so than the 360 ports new coding.
The only thing this version is missing is Shinra walking towards Ikaruga, on the startup screen.
And as to DoDonPachi, and EspGaluda, they're not on par with what ikaruga is, as it's full 3d rendering, etc is hardly a patch on 2d spritesm even though there is a ****load going on..heck some emulated old titles fling around similar amounts of bullets, and sprites.

can anyone provide a titanium backup for ikaruga 13.01.01 i was playing this game yesterday but after opening the game again game screen just went black i dunno what happened . .tried reinstalling but still the same. thought maybe because my phone is rooted or something. i will try your titanium backup file and see if this solves my problem :/

I'm here to tell you this is bull****. Chances are that if you own an Android phone, and picked it up within the last 18 months, you've got in your pocket a silent killer in terms of portable gaming.
Below you'll find four steps you can follow to turn that humble little smartphone into something a little more gamey.
1. USE GOOGLE PLAY
Well, duh. But if you're a new user, or someone contemplating making the switch, this is important.
Android users have a bad reputation for pirating software, including games, and in many ways that's a fair assumption. Pirating games for the platform is way too easy.

You'll even find some hot exclusives. Kairosoft's entire catalogue of addictive-as-hell management games is on the Play Store, for example, while only a handful have ever made it to the App Store.
Seriously, there are enough quality games on there already that we could end the guide right here and you'd be set. Luckily, we're not ending the guide here.
Those remaining developers who either delay bringing their games to Android, or don't do it at all, usually cite piracy as one of the big concerns. The more people actually pay for apps and games on Android, the more of these developers will be encouraged to bring their wares to the platform. So do it.
2. GO RETRO
Let's say you want to play something more substantial than most mobile titles can offer. Or a classic game from your childhood that, for better or worse, isn't available on the Play Store. The great thing about Android phones is that you can still play these games, and it's a lot easier - and more legal - than you might think.
Two of the most popular means of running old PC games on modern systems - DOSBox (for old DOS games) and ScummVM (for old adventure games) - both have versions available for Android devices.

What DOSBox Manager does is let you create a quicklaunch screen for the games, so instead of having to enter command prompts every time you want to play a game (which is normally how DOSBox works), you just tap some box art, same as a regular app/game.
If you need help using DOSBox Turbo and/or getting your games running, the best place to start is the app's site, which has helpful (and easy to understand) walkthroughs and guides.
ScummVM is an easier proposition, but if you have trouble setting it up, the official guide gives you a great walkthrough on getting set up.
A word of caution, though: be careful which games you bring over. Your phone has limited inputs, most likely just a touchscreen, so trying to play a fast-paced RTS or shooter might not be the best idea. Slower, mouse-driven genres like adventure and turn-based strategy are a good place to start.

3. GET A CONTROLLER (OR USE A MOUSE)
It sounds crazy, I know. Buying an external controller for your phone defeats the entire point of playing games on a portable device. But the fact of the matter is, as phones become more powerful, phone games become more powerful, and it's a tragedy that people try to play something like Real Racing using touchscreen or tilt controls. Stick a pad on there and some of these newer games will feel like a console game, instead of just looking like one.
There's also the benefit it brings to the retro games you'll be playing. Use a gamepad and suddenly all those amazing old shooters are playable. Connect a bluetooth mouse to your phone and anything you can't play with a pad, you can probably play with it.
Doing this is pretty simple; provided they don't need drivers, Android natively supports bluetooth peripherals, including keyboards, mice and control pads. It'll even display a mouse cursor if it detects one. Just find your phone's bluetooth settings and pair it up.

To save you buying a gamepad, there's an app that lets you connect a PS3 pad to an Android device (though note: your phone needs to be rooted for this to work). Alternatively, you can sync a Wii Remote, since it also connects via Bluetooth (and can be configured with this app).
Again, this might sound crazy since you can do this a lot more easily on a regular computer, but consider this: old PC games weren't designed to run on giant 23" desktop monitors. You either stretch their visuals until they look like garbage, or run them in a window.
Phone screens, though, are at the cutting edge. Relatively tiny yet packing amazing colours and now sometimes even 1080p resolution, they breathe new life into your old games. Trust me, fire up something like Colonization or X-Com on a contemporary phone and it'll look better than ever.
4. GET A BIGGER BATTERY (OR BATTERY PACK)
The one major downside to the crop of modern Android smartphones is that, almost to the last, they've got terrible battery life. Most can barely last a single day, even with infrequent use. If you're planning on playing a game at home, that's not a problem, but let's be honest, how often will you be playing a phone game at home?
Running 3D graphics - or even just leaving a big bright screen on for long stretches - will kill your battery. So if you're serious about gaming on your Android phone, you should think about getting a bigger battery (if your phone supports removable batteries) or an external battery case/charging pack (if it doesn't).

5. SIGN UP TO ONLIVE
It's easy to forget about the company these days after all the problems it went through last year, but streaming service OnLive is still around, and it works on Android devices. Your mileage may vary depending on your device - it's more suited to tablets than phones - but if you've got a gamepad solution for your phone, and your connection is fast enough to pull it off, you can play all kinds of games that would normally never be available on the platform..

Awesome guide! I can vouch for DosBox Turbo. I have about 50+ games installed and regularly play Warcraft II networked multi-player with my buddies on their Android devices.

What folder structure and file type did you use? I tried zip files I tried unzipping them. Tried putting them in various folders but I can't get it to recognise any games.

The cloud gaming service works like OnLive but way better, now is free play all you want. If you want to get in you need a beta key, If you don't have one you can get one on ebay, a seller probably has a few left.
