If you can't restore the efs backup you made from the stock rom there is no help. Editing the IMEI is illegal and nothing can be done.

The only way to get it back is to have your IMEI restored and only the OEM can legally do it, if the backup doesnt work.

You stated in your post that you tried an EFS back up. IF you dont have one then your gonna have to send it in for repair. Things like this happen when you mess with the OS of your device.

There is no Idea. First off restoring someone else EFS folder is dumb. Of course it wont work as it doesnt match your device.
You are not gonna find an answer for this. Samsung will have to replace your motherboard and most likely charge you more then the device is worth.
If you are intent on keeping the device you have 2 options.
1. Flash a stock rom with Odin. If this doesnt work then (most likely wont)
2. Send it to samsung.
Those are your only options.
Now I would advise once you get things worked out, before you think about doing things like this again to understand what you are doing as the min you mod your device you kill any and all warranty on the device and very well could end up with a brick or unusable device.

If you have taken CWM Backup try restoring the backup file, if you haven't taken the Backup try flashing the Stock ROM and check if problem resolved or now.

That guide is not specifically for our handset so be careful while doing what has been stated.
It seems you have deleted the EFS folder by mistake or it has been corrupted due to some reason.

IMEI "Unknown" Galaxy R, no connection

Hi Guys,
I do not know from where I should start.
Recently, I installed "Juice Defender" on my phone and thought I would save some battery life. But today morning, I had some problem with my phone and thought that "JD" is creating some issues so I thought of removing it, in fact removed (uninstalled) it. I also checked that the Norton antivirus was also not updated (free) so I thought of removing it also (uninstalled it) but after the removal my phone hanged and I was left with no choice but to remove the battery. Thus, I removed it.
But when I inserted battery and switched it on.. There was nothing, I mean no connection. I checked other things like IMEI, IMEI SV etc and there were not there.
I took back up and factory restored my phone but all in vain.
Do not know where to go and break my head. :crying:
Help me guys, what could be the problem and permanent solution.
MODs: If you find a similar thread please merge this with that. But I would like to keep it separate if it is not against the forum rules.
Thanks guys for the support in advance.
Have you use dead repair trick for you galaxy r or any flashing of any Rom anytime soon.Did you anytime backed up your efs folder?

If you do not have your /efs folder backed up, it is usls to do anything now unless someones knows all the file structure inside the /efs folder.
Installing/Uninstalling Juice Defender or Norton Anti virus will not do any harm to IMEI or will not touch EFS folder, Have you flashed any custom ROM, Have you rooted your mobile....
If you don't have EFS backup, then just take your mobile to Samsung Service Center they will do it in 10 min...
Yes mj is correct no need to change the motherboard for imei problems. Even if no imei is present the ssc will do the job in 30 min. But go with the stock Indian Rom and zero counter

To all,
I went to a Samsung service centre today and they were like ok. So you have this problem hmmm.
We need to send it to Noida (India) base centre where they will replace the board (probably motherboard) and fix the IMEI issue (most probabaly manual entry). Most shocking part was, it was not covered under warrenty...shhh ! Team leader at the centre was showing some file missing using *1234*# or something like it.
Is it not covered under warrenty ? :crying: How come !

What !?!
They denied you warranty on what basis ? Could you please elaborate in detail why they didn't allow your device to be repaired under warranty ?
Though I've read that you haven't messed with the device but I want to confirm again. Have you ever rooted your device ? Have you ever flashed anything in your device using Odin / CWM ?
If that's the only reason 'cause there was a file missing' that the Samsung service center gave you then you should have told them clearly that you don't know WTH happened to the device & you'll have to repair it under warranty or I'll take the matter to the higher authorities.
Please reply in detail cause this is something which shouldn't have happened.
IMO, fighting with them would be a definitely a waste of time...
instead, i wld say visit some other SSC in your locality...
bt if you dont have, then you have left with no option but to fite/ask/convince...!!

No, I have not rooted my cell nor flashed it using anything like odin / CWM.
Ahhh!
I do not know on what basis they denied warranty. He was saying that you might have tried to upgrade the OS or something of that sort. Due to which some files (he shown only one to me) are missing. For that they need to send it to their base centre and they will update it. I asked him why it cannot be covered under warranty. He said it is related to IMEI issue and something wrong with the board. So they cannot cover it under any warranty. Strange..

You understood my point. It was complete waste of time talking to that guy. Because he already made his mind that warranty would not be extended on this. On what basis is still not known to me.

I am in Delhi friend
Just now had a discussion with Samsung customer care and the shift manager would call back in 30-45mins (hope so) as it is little diffcult issue for the call centre person to answer. Question was: Whether I should be paying something towards the repair of my phone under warranty ?

can't read Sim Card / Unknown Network

about a 2 month ago my lgp500 become hard bricked. few days ago i repaird it through a mobile shop. Technician said to me that he make my pone alive but unable to restore IMEI number. So the phone is not working on network. When i checked mobile IMEI on about section it was 0000.
I took phone at home. about 2-3 month ago i took a NV2 backup through LGDMP, so i thought that i can able to restore it.
I was follow these steps:
1) Try to restore NV2 Backup. ( my imei shown on about section but still not network/sim support, Only show emergency mode)
2) Reset firmware to v20g with KDZ , then restore nv2 backup again. As well as i try to flash new baseband through LGDMP.
3) Reinstall firmware v20g with LGDMP, Restore Baseband & IMEI through LGDMP.
4) Reinstall firmware to v10E with KDZ, reinstall onld baseband & imei through LGDMP.
5) Try an unbranded IMEI which i found on google. Phone shows New IMEI but still not in working state.
6) Reinstall custom firmware (CM9/CM10) , but still no chance.
My nv2 backup file size is 179kb. i don't this so it's corrupt. but may be...
Now need suggestion and help from you guys.. :crying:
sorry for my English. :silly:
for IMEI type *#06# to see if it will display it, you have to request an NV backup from someone if someone will give it
or:
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534704 , read your IMEI under battery and try to create NV with tool in link

shinobisoft said:
As rr0yy stated, no one is going to give you their NV2 file as it contains information specific to their device like IMEI number, WIFI mac address, bluetooth mac address, etc... If you are having IMEI issues and you don't have your own NV2 backup, I'm afraid the service center or purchasing another device are your only options. Unfortunately the service center won't do any good if the device is out of warranty and/or you don't have proof of purchase ( receipt ).

[Q] Error while searching for networks[CM 10.1 Alpha-9]

Installed CM 10.1 alpha-9 from DDLF2 a week ago. Phone worked perfect for few days. While trying to call a friend, the screen went unresponsive for a few seconds & the network was gone & never returned. The sim is working in another phone. While searching available networks 'error while searching for networks' shows.
Phone Status:
Network: Unknown
Signal Strength: 0 dBm 99 asu
Mobile network type : Unknown:0
Service state: out of service
Mobile Network state: Disconnected
My phone number: Unknown
IMEI: Unknown
IMEI SV: Unknown
IP address: Unavailable
I have no efs backup or anything. I just backed up the device while on DDLF2 from the CWM menu & copied the files onto my pc. The files are in a folder named backup>2013-09-14.18.42.26 (around 373MB).
Files are:
1. cache.rfs.tar
2. data.rfs.tar
3. datadata.rfs.tar
4. nandroid.md5
5. system.rfs.tar
I guess its the IMEI problem. Please help guys.
As far as I know, nandroid backup does not back up EFS. Your best bet would be to do a full reflash with stock ROM.
Unfortunately, "unknown" IMEI is most likely a busted EFS, but give it a try, still. Lurk around the SD card, many roms create EFS backups, maybe you still got one somewhere

Tried DXKF1 & XXKPQ also. Everything works fine except the network. Now the phone says - Please insert sim. Looking for the EFS backup. I think I have found something, will post the details soon.

i have my efs backup folder but i couldn't recover it. Hope you can help me
Found a folder in the sd card named backup>efs (Size 5MB). 4 folders inside & 14 files. As I read in some other topics, the most important files are nv_data & nv_data.bin.md5 which are present in the folder. Is this anyhow useful. Please help guys, my phone is of no use now!
One more thing that I don't get is that how this problem came, as the phone was working ok for aroung 4-5 days after flashing CM 10.1 A9. May be this is a hardware problem. I don't understand.

I would be happy to help you but I myself don't know what to do with the EFS thing. I will post for sure, if anything works.
By the way, is your problem same as mine or anything different?
Wifi also not working!

Z3x box is a box needed to use samsung tools or sth like that. I'm at school atm search forum by typing 9 steps to recover your imei. It's in GS 2 general topic. And also my imei is blank if we can make it 049 or 000. But without any imei we can't restore it i think. 'cuz it didn't work for me..

If you can buy some credits for samsung SRS server's it says it takes 6 credits for imei repair. Maybe it can solve our problem. I don't have a credit card so i can't try it. If it works maybe i can buy too. What do you think?

I guess you have the warranty papers? Just give it to SAMSUNG service center , they'll fix it in 2 days...
Or you can install ODIN in ure PC and flash stock rom. But in case you screw your phone, the warranty will get void.
Press thanks if it helps...

I don't normally help others, but when I do I ask for thanks... BTW I'm not hungry -.-
It looks from others view that you are begging... I mean no offence to you. Just ask for it in the sig and leave it.
