Hi Guys,
I do not know from where I should start.
Recently, I installed "Juice Defender" on my phone and thought I would save some battery life. But today morning, I had some problem with my phone and thought that "JD" is creating some issues so I thought of removing it, in fact removed (uninstalled) it. I also checked that the Norton antivirus was also not updated (free) so I thought of removing it also (uninstalled it) but after the removal my phone hanged and I was left with no choice but to remove the battery. Thus, I removed it.
But when I inserted battery and switched it on.. There was nothing, I mean no connection. I checked other things like IMEI, IMEI SV etc and there were not there.
I took back up and factory restored my phone but all in vain.
Do not know where to go and break my head. :crying:
Help me guys, what could be the problem and permanent solution.

If you do not have your /efs folder backed up, it is usls to do anything now unless someones knows all the file structure inside the /efs folder.
Installing/Uninstalling Juice Defender or Norton Anti virus will not do any harm to IMEI or will not touch EFS folder, Have you flashed any custom ROM, Have you rooted your mobile....
If you don't have EFS backup, then just take your mobile to Samsung Service Center they will do it in 10 min...
Yes mj is correct no need to change the motherboard for imei problems. Even if no imei is present the ssc will do the job in 30 min. But go with the stock Indian Rom and zero counter

That is the whole idea. I am myself shocked to know that something of this sort can actually happen with me. I generally, do not fiddle with electronic devises. No I have not flashed anything nor rooted it. I do not even know how to do it.

To all,
I went to a Samsung service centre today and they were like ok. So you have this problem hmmm.
We need to send it to Noida (India) base centre where they will replace the board (probably motherboard) and fix the IMEI issue (most probabaly manual entry). Most shocking part was, it was not covered under warrenty...shhh ! Team leader at the centre was showing some file missing using *1234*# or something like it.
Is it not covered under warrenty ? :crying: How come !

you can surely visit other ssc....and get it check..also just tell the TL...that this is 'GALAXY R' and not s2....
i would tell you to visit other SSC...imo, SSC ppl arent dat smart enuf...as they look....
btw what have you done ?? taken back or gave for repair ???
^ ^
What !?!
They denied you warranty on what basis ? Could you please elaborate in detail why they didn't allow your device to be repaired under warranty ?
Though I've read that you haven't messed with the device but I want to confirm again. Have you ever rooted your device ? Have you ever flashed anything in your device using Odin / CWM ?
If that's the only reason 'cause there was a file missing' that the Samsung service center gave you then you should have told them clearly that you don't know WTH happened to the device & you'll have to repair it under warranty or I'll take the matter to the higher authorities.
Please reply in detail cause this is something which shouldn't have happened.
IMO, fighting with them would be a definitely a waste of time...
instead, i wld say visit some other SSC in your locality...
bt if you dont have, then you have left with no option but to fite/ask/convince...!!

No, I have not rooted my cell nor flashed it using anything like odin / CWM.
Ahhh!
I do not know on what basis they denied warranty. He was saying that you might have tried to upgrade the OS or something of that sort. Due to which some files (he shown only one to me) are missing. For that they need to send it to their base centre and they will update it. I asked him why it cannot be covered under warranty. He said it is related to IMEI issue and something wrong with the board. So they cannot cover it under any warranty. Strange..

You understood my point. It was complete waste of time talking to that guy. Because he already made his mind that warranty would not be extended on this. On what basis is still not known to me.
To all,
I am planning to raise a concern to Samsung directly by writing a mail and bringing the same in their knowledge. What do you guys suggest ?

I am in Delhi friend
Just now had a discussion with Samsung customer care and the shift manager would call back in 30-45mins (hope so) as it is little diffcult issue for the call centre person to answer. Question was: Whether I should be paying something towards the repair of my phone under warranty ?

I was in a similar kinda situation...when they were just postponing my problem for days and days...
I called at the samsung customer care india.... Reported themmm all...
Then.. I approached the owner of the SSC and just got aggresive on him and warned regarding consumer protection act.. "I will sue u..if u wont solve my problem.. "
Immediately the owner took my phone under his responsibility and returned after 5 days with a new board... My phone had a weird problem, its sensors did not work...and used to take 40-60 seconds at splash screen (POST).....

If you can't restore the efs backup you made from the stock rom there is no help. Editing the IMEI is illegal and nothing can be done.

The only way to get it back is to have your IMEI restored and only the OEM can legally do it, if the backup doesnt work.

You stated in your post that you tried an EFS back up. IF you dont have one then your gonna have to send it in for repair. Things like this happen when you mess with the OS of your device.

There is no Idea. First off restoring someone else EFS folder is dumb. Of course it wont work as it doesnt match your device.
You are not gonna find an answer for this. Samsung will have to replace your motherboard and most likely charge you more then the device is worth.
If you are intent on keeping the device you have 2 options.
1. Flash a stock rom with Odin. If this doesnt work then (most likely wont)
2. Send it to samsung.
Those are your only options.
Now I would advise once you get things worked out, before you think about doing things like this again to understand what you are doing as the min you mod your device you kill any and all warranty on the device and very well could end up with a brick or unusable device.
