[Q] Stupid Wifi Question - General Questions and Answers

So this is a rather embarassing to have to ask cayse its prolly so simple of a fix but my roomates GS4 Active constantly switches the Wifi on by itself even tho I've turned off every option including the obvious "Auto Connect" setting. As well as auto-scan. All to no avail. Even if I have the phone forget our home network it still pops the wifi on as soon as it detects wifI regardless of signal typw/properties. Any ideas? It's rather annoying and it's not even my phone but drives me crazy lol tho the fact that I know its gonna be a simple answer that I am apparently overlooking lol thank god for XDA!

[Q] "No Network Connect" even though connected

Lately, I have been getting the "No Network Connection" popup when I open my browser. The weird thing is that I am connected and when I close the popup, it connects fine anyway.
Any thoughts?
Bump up. Still having this issue.
I've been having this from the second or third week of ownership. I think it is losing the APN settings and I think I read something about it here on xda, but can't find it now.
The work around I use is to put the phone in airplane mode and then take it right back out. Seems to reset things and is much quicker than rebooting the phone.

wifi sleep policy too sleepy on Sidekick with GO2

I don't really know if this is peculiar to Glorious Overload (which I've been running for a week or so) or is maybe a kernel problem on the Sidekick 4G.
I want my wifi to stay connected when the screen turns off. I've tried setting the wifi sleep policy to both "never" and "never when plugged in" with limited success. Seems to sometimes stay on and sometimes not. When it gets into the "sometimes not" state, the only cure I have found is rebooting the phone. Other than that, I haven't yet caught a pattern to it.
Anyone have any info or suggestions?
(For those wondering, I want wifi to stay on so that I can use the quite nice "AutoAir" app to turn off my 3G/4G data connection [to save battery] when I'm connected over wifi. And I want that because I'm trying to use "Groove IP" to do all my calls as VoIP, which is somewhat better over wifi when it's available.)
(For those who don't know how to set the wifi sleep policy, try Settings > Wireless and network > Wi-Fi settings. Then hit the menu button and select "Advanced".)
Well, I checked my advanced settings, and mines was on never. I know it's woring because I download a lot of crap, esp via torrent clients. And once I have wifi on, it doesn't use 4g anymore. When I turn it off, 4g comes back. Mind you, I don't use and switcher apps or anything of that matter.
Quite odd that you're having a problem, are you stock GO2?
Sent from my Sidekick 4G running PDT's Glorious Overdose.
Yes, stock GO2.
For me, the behavior is intermittent. Sometimes seems to stay on, but sometimes seems to "forget".
There seem to be a zillion "fix your wifi" or "keep your wifi on" apps in the market, so I am trying a few of those now. (Slow going due to the intermittent nature of the problem I'm trying to solve.)
I noticed at the end of your post that u want to turn off your data and keep your wifi on to save battery, but with our device having wifi on uses more power than data. Mainly because our data and our cell signal are on the same radio, so by turning off data you really are doing nothing, because your cell service is still using the radio, but now that you've turned on wifi you now have the cell/data radio on and your wifi radio on. Really the fact that our cell and data are in the same radio is great because it really cuts down on battery use. So there you go. Learn something new everyday. please thanks this post if you didn't know this or if it helped you.

You're right ... I didn't know that.
The other reason I want to keep the wifi on (apart from my faulty reasoning about battery life) is that VoIP is generally better over wifi. It's easy to get that arranged for outgoing calls, but the phone is generally napping for incoming calls.
I may have to rethink my whole strategy for this.

[Q] Connection Problems

For the past couple weeks I have been having major connection problems with 3G & WiFi. It would just stop working, even though the bars would be there and show that it is working, but nothing would load. Normally have to turn off Wifi or data for a couple minutes and then turn it back on, or reboot, but even then it does not last that long.
I found on these forums and other places that people seem to have been having the same issue and was caused by the recent update from SuperSU and something it was giving permissions to called mksh. So I denied it permissions, continued to have problem, I went back to the older version, still the saem, I removed the program, and started using just normal Superuser, and the problem still continues.
I was for sure this was the problem, but the program is gone now. I know it can't really be the mksh by itself because it's part of the android OS. For awhile I thought it might have been my SIM card but quickly realised that well WiFi is a problem as well, not just 3G data.
Any one have ideas about this? It's getting really annoying and almost not usable.
BUMP, anyone, this is getting quite annoying. I have searched and done everything possible.
Still needing help.
I don't like bumping this all the time.
I have done all the searching I can, no one has similar problems, no one has any ideas?
Still looking for some answers.
I guess I am the only one.

What do you mean by toggle Airplane mode, when having the problem, turn it on, then turn it off, to see if service works again?
Yes that works, that is what I do most of the time, actually most of the time I have airplane mode on, and then have only wifi enabled.
Either way, how does troubles with WiFi as well as 3G connections mean a problem with my service provider? They don't provide WiFi
Anyone..

Wifi keeps disconnecting?

Hey, guys I just got my Pixel 2.
I connected it wifi but it keeps losing it. Only if I reset my router it will keep the connection for a while, but somehow when
I get to work or in the morning the same issue appears again. It connects but when I go to an app which requires wifi it drops.
I tried to change the channel but didn't work as well.
Restarting the phone won't help either. I also don't want to factory reset it since I want to keep all my data etc. I don't want to go all that bs.
Maybe I should have stuck with a new iPhone after all. Sorry for that comment, but I'm really frustrated
I don't want to give it back or some ****, I just want to fix it easily so I can move on. I hope I get some advice here.

this can help:
phone ::: Go to setting > wifi > advance > If there is Freq option then change it to 2.4Ghz
router (in case no option on phone) ::: go to Wifi setting of your router and disable 5Ghz. I can help more If I know model of your wifi router
:good:
I'm having the same exact problem as OP. I thought for a second I wrote the post. Would love to see if there's a solution. I don't see the option to change frequency in wifi settings. And this issue for me occurs on different WiFi networks.. so it's not just one router. Ugh!
Exactly the same issue here, which is what has lead me to this thread. It often happens that my phone switches to mobile data suddenly while working absolutely fine on Wi-Fi. I have tried almost every basic solution but condition remains the same. Also during that time it stop showing me my (saved) Wi-Fi in the Wi-Fi network available, while at the same time my same Wi-Fi is connected to all the other devices in my house. This needs a fix.
still no fix

ya my problem is still there. This phone is utter dog ****, to be honest. Still waiting for an update, but now I know..never buy a pixel again
Is Bluetooth on? This is what is causing my WiFi to be very unstable......

Wifi on but not connected most of the time?

So i know this is a widespread problem because im on my 3rd pixel 3 and i have exactly the same problem on every one.
When im at home wifi is on but half the time it isnt connected, but as soon as i poke about on the wifi settings it connects. Its like its in some kind of sleep mode or something. I end up using all my mobile data whilst indoors a few meters away from the router! Ive had a pixel 3 since it came out and just cant seem to fix this problem.
Please tell me its a well known problem and some one has worked out a fix
I have not had that problem, but you may be able to reduce the mobile data usage by turning off "Switch to mobile data automatically" in Settings, Wi-Fi preferences.

This is no a known issue and if you're on your 3rd pixel i don't think had anything to do with the phone. It's most likely an issue on your router side. Have you tried resetting it?
Are you by chance using WiFi which is configured as hidden network? This is typically done by checking the checkbook next to "do not broadcast SSID" checkbox.
If you are connecting to such network, there is a setting you have to check while setting up that WiFi connection. It is hidden in normal dialog and so it is easy to miss. This was the root cause for similar issue I have seen on my Android devices including Pixel.
Im not using a hidden network. The weirdest thing is whenever i notice its not using wifi as soon as i pull down on the screen at the top it will connect. like its been caught out lmao. was using the phone just now, an alert comes up to tell me ive used 2gb of data. so i pull down on top of screen and theres an x on the wifi icon, its on but theres an x (probably means not connected to anything) then a second later it connects. i dont click on anything it just connects whenever i pull the top bar down to check. its been happily eating my data while on sat in doors but as soon as i check that status it connects! its damn crazy!
This is exactly what it does every time without fail whenever i notice there is no wifi.
Fix your router bro

The x on the wifi icon means you are connected to the router, but the router is not connected to the internet. Like everyone else, I think you have a router problem. Rebooting the router may help, but it may be time to replace the router.
Where are you located? It could be that your internet is unable to ping google servers. I have that issue whenever I clean flash, but I am in China so that is why.
This is not a widespread issue and as almost everyone has said, you have a router issue. It's possible that your router "sleeps" when nothing is trying to use it but that's just a guess. My suggestion, get a new router.
