Hey,
I'm considering unlocking the bootloader of my Xperia Z3 D6603. In the Service Menu, I can see Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes so I assume it'll work.
I'm aware of the camera low-light degradation issues but I've decided that it's not as much of a problem as I initially thought. I was reading this thread from the Z3 Compact forums (I assume everything there applies here), and I'm left with a few questions:
In that thread, some users claim that their audio (from headphones and speakers) sounds noticeably worse with the unlocked bootloader. Still, some users claim that there is no difference. Can anyone here tell me whether or not there is actually a difference in audio quality?
I know about all the low-light problems, but in Manual 20MP mode, are photos from the unlocked bootloader still comparable with photos from the locked bootloader?
I learned that PS4 Remote Play has been ported from the Z3 to other Android devices successfully from this thread in the Sony cross-platform forums. Would using the ported Remote Play from that thread allow PS4 Remote Play to work on an unlocked bootloader? (not too worried about this, just curious.)
I know I'm asking a lot, but I really love this device and I wouldn't want to lose any functionality when unlocking the bootloader. Thanks for your help!
1. For me the sound quality is the same.
2. I've unlocked my phone before I took any low light photos. Now it is not too bad.
3. I didn't get Remote Play to work. I've tried only one method to get it.

My Z3 ia about to be delivered any time now, but I can tell you a bit about my Z1 Compact. I unlocked and rooted it as soon as I got it and never used the official rom. I'm looking at the 3000 pictures/videos I took with it and can see the noise is very similar to what we see on the threads comparing LB/UB pictures. So, knowing that the Z3 has better optics and image sensor than the Z1C, I imagine it'll be fine. I never take pictures in low light conditions because I know they'll suck no matter what.
I'll test the sound issue, but I can't test the PS4 thing because I don't have one.

Thanks so much!
Not too bothered about the PS4 thing. I've tried it with my PS4 and frankly, I don't think I'll be using it often, if at all. You've reassured me about the camera, so thanks about that. My only concern is the sound issue. I'd consider myself an audiophile of sorts, and so I don't think I'll be rooting until there's a way to backup the TA partition. But again, thanks so much for your help.

All of these questions have been answered countless times and a quick search would provide your answers. I'm reluctant to answer because I feel you are being a tad lazy but I'm too polite not to help and at least this will serve as a summary of these discussions:
1) There are no real problems though a few people (myself included) have had slight hardware faults. For me it was a flickering screen which was a loose connection and the phone was replaced quickly with no bother. Make sure you test it well on receiving it (use all the various functions and check they all work as expected). A few have suffered water damage because the unit wasn't properly sealed (it is supposed to be waterproof). This post explains how to test it's air-tight before submerging it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/...fing-water-t2897886/post55896949#post55896949
2) Yes. Unlocking the bootloader wipes the 'TA partition' which hold DRM keys specific to your device. That will kill various functions such as Music/Video Unlimited and the Bravia engine display enhancements. Crucially though, it also disables the Sony-specific camera algorithms so, yes, it will degrade camera performance, especially in low light.
Hopefully, someone will soon find an exploit that allows root without unlocking the bootloader as that will mean we can backup the TA partition and restore it after a bootloader unlock, saving the DRM keys. Until that happens, it is strongly advised to leave the bootloader locked. Remember; the DRM keys are specific to each phone so if you lose yours, that is it, game over. You cannot replace them!
3) There are many varying reports but using the provided charger seems to take between 2.5 and 3 hours to completely charge. You can use quick chargers which bring that down to around 2.
4) The noise cancelling headphones (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HX9AJ5M/ref=pe_385721_51767431_TE_dp_1) are excellent. I have them. They work very well at killing background noises, particularly constant low frequencies like aeroplane engine noise. They are not included with the phone as they were in the Z2, instead you get some standard headphones but since the noise cancelling technology is in the phone, the MDR-NC31Ms are not expensive (see link above).

(I went from S3 -> Z3. Considered waiting for the Z4 but what's the point? It's still all just rumours and when that's out you'll be waiting for the Z5!)
Z3 is the first Android I've had where I don't want to get rid of the UI for stock/CM/Slimroms etc. I need root fairly badly for development reasons, and there's no way of doing that without losing some Sony software, but between the sensible Sony UI and the ability to use adb pm to remove unwanted bloat I have no other complaints at all.

When making statements of this kind, it would help others if you also quoted your source(s)...
Thanks
Coming from S3 i'll receive my Z3 thursday
I made the switch from my S3 to the Z3 yesterday. I am still using my S3 at present because I still need to set it all up and realised (after upgrading) I couldn't root it without unlocking bootloader, which isn't too helpful.
I am thinking of changing my S5 for the Z3
Not had an xperia phone since the first Z, so could be a mistake

I wouldn't. You'd be downgrading the camera, probably a bit of speed and maybe even battery life depending on how you use your phone. Also the S5 is much more comfortable to hold and has a better screen.
I am coming from the S3 and it is a major upgrade! I did install Nova Prime but I do not miss root. It is so fast!

The sony have a better camera overall . The Samsung have a very shaky camera
I came from an S3 to the Z3v. And I never look back on it because of all the attention grabbing how I have one completely unique phone from the rest that's an army of Samsung and Apple.
S3 to Z3.. Not Everyone is in with my Choice. but I've never been happier with an Android Device yet..
Z3 Rocks!
I came from an S3. Write up of my quick thoughts and discussion here on Reddit:

http://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/2kudzh/my_thoughts_on_the_xperia_z3_after_a_week_of/
Edit: Still happy with it, but my biggest complaint has to do with SMS/MMS: Sometimes it just flat out fails. Have to go into airplane mode and back to get it working again. (I don't use WiFi calling, so that's not it.) Have tried turning off auto date/time as a possible fix as reported by others. Too soon to tell.
It depends person to person but if you are going to be in a 2 year contract and use your phone "extensively", you will more than likely see screen burn on the S5. Its the nature of organic LEDs. Also the Z3 on manual takes good pics Im sure they will fix auto mode in the new update.
As for battery life the Z3 will have better battery-life every review I have seen says the same, especially in web surfing because on white back grounds AMOLED uses a lot more power than LCD's.
In the audio department Z3 has stereo speakers which the S5 does not. As for the audio jack output both are good.
GSM Arena battery life test results on bottom of each page.

At the end of the day both are good phones though. Try each one and see which suits you as our opinions may not match yours.
I consider my self fairly neutral when comes to phones. I used to tell people to avoid Sony (only the phones) in the mid 2000s (Symbian era) as most of my friends/relatives phones had issues in less than a year but Sony has come a long way and this is my first Sony phone and I am happy.

Nice try, Troll ))
I came from a S III. The Z3 is in a whole different world.
Same, I receive my Z3 yesterday and... wow, wonderfull phone i'm very happy
Has anyone encountered this problem? I have Unlocked my Sony Z3 Dual D6633 and rooted successfully, once I unlocked it, the camera stopped working, just show black, even the front camera
Have tried other apps, like Google camera but still the same
I understand that losing the DRM key could affect the camera quality but, it;s now totally broken
Any advise please?
It seems the sensor has failed
when I stress on the back of the camera with my finger it works and when I release it gives black screen !
8 months and sensor failed, wow !

Hello there,
This is a very specific topic concerning the Bluetooth connectivity between the Z5 / Z5 Compact / Z5 Premium and Sony LDAC devices such as the SRS-X33 and SRS-XB3.
I'll get straight to the point.
Good evening
I used a Z5 and now I use a Z5 Premium, and with them I've used the SRS-X33 portable speaker. With Z5 on Lollipop, it played great in "Audio Quality mode". However, it seems to be failing quite a bit even in "Connection mode" when I upgraded to Marshmallow. First I thought it might have been the speaker, fortunately I can try some LDAC speakers at a store near me, and soon realised it was not the speaker's fault, and after some time I bought the Z5 Premium, in which I'm experiencing the same as the normal Z5.
As careful as I am, I even went airplane mode and turned off every wireless equipment I have at home, and even in "Connection mode" I still get a sound break here and there. I also tried in many other places with those same settings.
I also contacted Sony's support via email, I came here just to be sure I wasn't missing anything.
Are you experiencing the same problems?

you will not find it in accessories section, try the Q&A section and general, just use the search word bluetooth, in fact just view the first page of each and you should find the threads
SAME HERE
i had the same problem with my sbh20 but not with my car bluetooth which is wierd but anyways the only solutions ive found is
to resort back to LL.
if you find anything please do tell have a nice day.
I unlocked the bootloader weeks ago, I have been told by more than one that the relock will restore all the feature and there is no risk to unlock it. Yesterday I relocked the bootloader because I really missed the powerful stereo speakers on stock, but what is a surprise to me is the Dolby Atmos wasn't working after the relock, the sound is flat, the volume is really low, does the unlock affect the Dolby? Or is there something else that broken it?
unlocking will erase some Sony-private partitions storing algorithms and you cannot restore them if you didnt do any backup. And backup is impossible if you dont gain root access.

I see there is no temp root possibility, so unlock will lost something for sure... Unlock bootloader on a Sony phone is the worst choice I made, because Sony is great as it is, after the unlock and lose some of its feature it's no longer a Sony. If you want a Pixel, buy Pixel, but not flash Pixel Experience on a Sony, Sony has Sony experience ( great sounds, camera, display).
Sure, efuse writing and permanant malfunction are unacceptable for many people here. However at least officially unlockable devices take the majority. I criticize huawei, Sharp and vivo by name!
