[Q] Load TWRP 2.8 fails - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi !!
I have a Nexus 5 with Android L.
I connect the N5 to my PC (Windows 8.1) with a USB cable and in the command line I write:
> adb kill-server
> adb start-server
> adb devices (to see the N5)
> adb reboot bootloader
and I wait till I see the fastboot screen in the N5. The I write:
> fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.4-hammerhead.img
It starts ok.
But with the last TWRP recovery, don't work:
> fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.8.2.0-hammerhead.img
At first N5 starts ok, I see the blue screen, but then restarts in Android L.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance !!
PS: I don't want to use fastboot flash

2.8.2.0 doesn't work, use 2.8.1.0

I wonder what the difference is between those who it works for and those who it does not?

No idea, but it just reboots for me but 1.0 works as expected. Strange

I had the same problem but this worked for me.
1) install an older TWRP that has work for you in the past. maybe 2.8.1.0 or older.
2) disable MTP
3) reboot into system.
4) reboot into recovery and flash 2.8.2.0
5) reboot and it should work. it worked for me.
now each time you use MTP you’ll have to re-disable MTP

Thanks !!

I've made some tests.
This recovery loads ok:
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.4-hammerhead.img
openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-hammerhead.img
openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-hammerhead.img
openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-hammerhead.img
openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.0-hammerhead.img
openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.1-hammerhead.img
This one hangs out and don't start:
openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-hammerhead.img
And this one starts (I see the blue screen) but reboots and the starts Android L:
openrecovery-twrp-2.8.2.0-hammerhead.img
The command I run is allways ' fastboot boot operecovery-twrp-x.x.x.x-hammerhead.img'.

I know yuou said no flash, but you should try and flash 2.8.1.0 and see if it boots. If it does, check if MTP is enabled. If it is, disable it then try boot again

I'm so sorry.
Not, I not checked the md5. For the 2.8.0.1 there was an error. I dowloaded again and now it has the correct md5. And starts ok.
But the 2.8.0.2 had the correct md5 (not need to download) but keep restarting.
Thanks !!

The restart happens when MTP is enabled on 2.8.2.0 so the fix is to boot into older version and turn off MTP then newer version will work. Please FLASH 2.8.1.0 as suggested and check it is off. The reason I say flash is that because you cannot boot it.

After the comment of gamer.11 I've checked the md5 of the failing 2.8.0.1 and 2.8.0.2. The first had bad md5, I've dowloaded again, but the second was ok.
I update the results of my tests.

Mainly it happens when You go to TWRP after flashing it without reboot. Reboot should fix it, if not - reboot tablet after flashing TWRP.

Well what had happened to me was I already had an old version of TWRP on my internal memory and I put the new version on my SD card which I wanted to flash. When I flashed twrp.blob, it flashed a very old version with an incompatible bootloader (whoops) which gave me the password error. So I put the new version on my internal memory, flashed twrp.blob again, and it worked.

delete the 2.1.4 trwp from your tablet altogether
The do this exactly from fastboot:
Download the file, check the md5, rename to twrp.blob and put the file in the same directory as your fastboot.exe (unless you have /platform-tools in PATH then you can flash from anywhere). Turn off your device and boot to fastboot (power on while holding volume down, then select the usb icon and hit volume up to confirm). The device will now be in fastboot mode. Plug the device into your computer. Run the following command via the command line:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.blob

So put the 2.6 -42 TWRP in your fastboot folder, then run the command.

[Q] [SOLVED] i think its bricked! any suggestion?

hey guys!
Firstly, i want to install TF300 KitKat 4.4.2 CROMBi-kk my tf300 but my twrp version isnt compatible with this rom. I try to update my twrp to 2.7.0.0 at this topic "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2686235"
Secondly, i flashed my recovery to 2.7.0.0 with fastboot but it isn't successfully completed. After that i try to flash official twrp ver. 2.6.3.0 (I guess i updated wrong ver of twrp) and it's accomplished.
After update process, i restarted my tf300 but android doesn't start and teamwin screen came. twrp show my internal memory 0 mb.
Now, i can start my OS through adb with "adb reboot-bootloader " command and select android.
First question. How can fix internal memory problem?
Second question. How can i change twrp ver. with true ver.?
Third question. How can i install new clean ROM?
thanks for your interest.

You don't get answers probably because it's hard to understand what it is you're asking. I understand English may not be your first tongue, but that's the only means of communication we have here. So try your best English: What exactly is your problem?

Try another way here, for entering twrp.
After you flashed the recovery successfully. Do not type the command of "fastboot reboot".
On your phone, press and hold the POWER and UP VOLUME buttons together until you enter the TWRP recovery. (It will power off and boot up recovery)
Note: Do not let it boot to normal system startup. This this case, you need to reflash the recovery via fastboot and follow the steps above again.
After you have root the phone successfully, you can enter the TWRP recovery without flashing via fastboot already.
Hope above help you.

If the touches screen doesn't work, It might be the TWRP recovery issue. You can try flash other version to solve the problem.
Anyway, great to know everything works for you now.
I've this issue.
TWRP is installed but:
- if I boot via [power]+[vol+] I enter in old stock recovery
- if I boot via fastboot using command "fastboot boot recovery.img", TWRP is loaded correctly

Yes very first time after I flashed and entered the TWRP recovery successfully, I need to wait for few minutes and the touchscreen only start working.

After flashing twrp you have two options. Either turn off your phone by long pressing power button and then use volume down + power button combo to boot into recovery.
Second option is after flashing it do fastboot reboot and immediately hold down the volume down button. It will boot into recovery

i cant flash TWRP because i cant login into it, after a flash i reboot, and try to press power button, but its resets or cynogenmod is booting, so its probably overwrite the TWRP recovery ...
all this after cm13 update, i know i need old TWRP and stock ROM, but just cant flash it
i use adb

If you're in fastboot then only fastboot devices command will work. Adb commands are done when the phone is booted in OS. I saw that photo you posted and it seems you know how to flash TWRP (fastboot flash recovery *****.img). Flash TWRP 2.8.6.0 image if it says successful. Then turn off your phone and use button combo. Can't be any simpler.

In twrp you can copy files just like if you had it on. Just connect to PC and transfer ROM + gapps. Latest CM13 + Open gapps should work perfectly as long as you use TWRP 2.8.6.0. Make sure you have the right drivers for your phone. Google search or go to YouTube you'll find the right drivers

Revert from OxygenOS to Cyannogen - problem with recovery

Hi,
Last month I've successfully switched my Oneplus One 16Gb to official Oxygen OS 2.1.4
Finaly I prefer the Cyanogen version and here I have a problem with the recovery tool.
I can't replace OxygenOS recovery at all and with it : not possible to install "super su" or cyanogen 12.1 rom.
With adb the installation of TWRP recovery or or cm12.1 recovery seems to work fine (transfer ok and no errors) but when I restart in recovery mode ((power + volume down) It's still OxygenOS Recovery in my phone.
Please help, I don't want to be stuck in this state :crying:

download the latest COS12.1.1 factory image to your pc, boot into fastboot mode and install the factory image via fastboot (flash aboot FIRST and do a "fastboot reboot bootloader" before you flash the rest ).
After that (or during, just replace recovery.img) you may install any custom recovery

Yes :good:
You brought me on the right track
I have successfully applied this method.
I nearly lost my phone because I had a power outage during the recovery but finally all is fine : I am back on COS 12.1.1 :victory:
A big thank-you

Yes I am trying to flash TWRP
However, when I follow the below mentioned steps this is what i end up with :
List of devices attached
dc1c2a16 unauthorized
C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Universal Adb Driver>adb devices
List of devices attached
dc1c2a16 device
C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Universal Adb Driver>adb reboot bootloader
C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Universal Adb Driver>fastboot devices
C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Universal Adb Driver>fastboot oem unlock
< waiting for device >
And on the device screen it just reads "Fastboot mode"
So I kind of have the same problem but not exactly, I flashed the oxygen os and it worked perfectly but I wanted to change it to a nugget based rom and realized that I can not even boot into recovery. it gets stuck on the first oneplus logo that comes up and will not boot into the twrp. Any suggestions?
wait, so ur phone can't boot into the rom? or stuck at the fastboot mode everytime u try to turn on the phone ? I'm having that problem too, but I reinstall all the driver, and it worked.

My device is just stuck at the Fast boot screen that shows a One Plus Logo under which "Fastboot Mode" is written after I try to boot into fast boot.

Go to fastboot and flash latest twrp first. If you are rooted, you can do that also from running systen (flashify, twrp manager)

Thank you for your response. I tried doing that but it gives me an error saying that there is already a twrp installed. I used Twrp Manager

Yes, this is general procedure for any android phone. The only requirement is unlocked bootloader.
