Hi,
I have seen some movies about gps in galaxy s 2 and compared it to my nexus s gps. I really got disappointed about mine. gs2 indoor was amazing. locking time under 10 seconds.
I want to know that this significant difference is because of the type of the gps cheap (hardware issue) or it is because of the software (radio or rom etc). Can it be fixed somehow?
Is there any way to get better the locking time of gps for nexus s ? for me, It can recognize 4 or 5 satellites but it can't lock and specify the location.
any comment ??? any idea ??
i have this problem too
GPS app can find satellites difficulty
but the important problem is locking to them
as i know it's a recognized problem in some of NS
maybe not in all ones
Started this thread to inform users of (samsung) smartphones about GPS.
I owned or own: Note 3, Ace 3 LTE, Young duos, Core prime LTE (G361F), S advance.
What I have learned is that most phones with only GPS satilites of A-GPS are not always usable in some conditions.
In cloudy conditions, some people argue that this is not true, it's almost impossible to get good quality GPS signals.
And if you get any it's usually low quality. This low quality GPS receiving is causing problems for phones like Samsung S advance.
It's a fact that cloudy days will cause problems with GPS. With my Samsung S advance with cloudyweather, driving car, I sometimes do not get a GPS position fix in 10 minutes! After 10 minutes I gave up. With nice weather the GPS is finding my position quiet fast.
How do I know? Just take any GPS test program from Google play and find out. It will show how many satellites and how strong the signal is, and if 2D or 3D GPS positioning has been calculated. I placed both phones, Samsung S Advance and Samsung Core prime G361F next to eachother and started the "GPS test APP" from Google app store.
I remember my older phone, the Samsung galaxy ace 3, which worked pretty well with GPS. It has both A-GPS, Glonass. So I was looking around for a smart phone with ok specifications but good GPS. Looking at the specifications of the Samsung core prime LTE (G361F)
I thought it should be at least as good as my trusty ACE 3. And I was surprised that it is even better!
GPS satellites found in about 5~10 seconds. That is not the most important. Because it has A-GPS,Glonass and in Asia it will gain new satellites from Beidou. Because of this there are more satellites to contact to and the chance you get a good 3+ point satellite signal is
higher. So far I am very impressed with this.
General tip for buying any brand smart phone for people who need good GPS functionality: make sure the phone has at least support for A-GPS and Glonass. Buying an off-line route app might be a good idea as well.
For me those GPS fix programs do not work at all (Samsung S advance) Correct me if I am wrong in my post. :good:
Hi all
I recently upgraded from the Galaxy S5 to a Pixel. Something I'm noticing is that the phone is not recovering very well from reception dropouts.
While commuting on the train the reception drops in and out while going through tunnels etc. The S5 would obtain reception again pretty much instantly however I find that the Pixel is taking up to 3-5 minutes to get reception again. I find that a restart of the phone will sort the issue out. Putting the phone in and out of flight mode doesnt seem to help.
The phone is running Android 7.1. Has anyone experienced this issue or know how I can go about fixing it?
Cheers
I'm on T-Mobile. I went through 3 edge 7s and one Note 7. I had the same issue as you and sometimes they wouldn't re acquire signal till I restarted the phones. What do they all have in common with the Pixel ? The snapdragon 820/821chipset and modem !
The latest Nougat beta update for the 7 edge seems to have fixed the issue though and now it re acquires signal fast.

I recently upgraded the device to 7.1.1 which seems to have made a positive impact in alleviating the issue. The Pixel is now recovering much better from reception dropouts while on the train!
Hi, I bought a*Sm-t239 Samsung Tab4 as GPS navigator in my Micra Nissan Car (year*2008).
I encountered issue on my GPS system and the tablet often lost my GPS signal and the navigator recalculated always the route.
I searched on Google some tablet*that gets a best Gps system part and I found that Nexus 9 by HTC should be the best one.
But for both tablets I get about same results.
I noticed that for Samsung in Gps Status Toolbox app I get less satellites than Htc tablet and effectively when I go out the tunnels the Htc is faster than Samsung to localize my position.
I use both under windscreen through the stand*but I tried to move tablets on passenger seat and I get the same situation and GPS signal is lost.
I tried to use my OnePlus 5 phone that I arrange on my aeration nozzles and the phone always works fine! It gets abou 32 satellites.
Do you know what's the reason for my issues?

Hi I have serious problem to use zenfone 7 in navigation mode with maps and Waze. It has a very bad signal GPS and it loose connection a lot of time.
I'm on android 11 last update now. I didn't try GPS with the old android version. Have anyone faced this kind of issue?
Thanks.
Same problem here
Same problem since the last update... Has anyone found a solution?
I received the new update that is being released in these days and the gps problem seems to be solved, even though I still have to try it accurately. Has anyone tried and can confirm the problem has been solved?
I have the Zenfone 7 Pro and my GPS signal is excellent, crazy good. Check your GPS signal in GPS Signal apps, such as "GPS Status" in Play Store, see what that shows.

Yes as I said after the update the problem is solved, even the app you suggested works good. Although in some situation (rare cases) the precision is not perfect or the phone lose the signal for some seconds... Don't know why. Thanks anyway for your help
Any place that acts as a faraday cage will effect signal.
You will have signal loss near fortified buildings or sky scrapers. Most of the modern ones have signal boosters now. Also if you go into tunnels you'll lose signal.

I check my update for Zenfone almost weekly. I don't run many apps, really try to stay basic as possible. I have tried resetting my phone and rebooting multiple times. And, I still have issues where I will lose GPS signal... Like all signal. I have the "GPS Status" app and I can see how many satellites are connecting. But when I lose GPS signal, I mean all, not like only 2 satellite is showing. My friend standing next to me using a Samsung and my wife using Pixel 3 are both getting GPS and I am down. So did I get a lemon, or are all Zenfone 7 GPS radio sucks?

That sounds like you did get a lemon.
Do you use a magnet holder?

And no, most time hold on my hand, otherwise use non mechanical stand or clamp style car phone holder mount.
Maybe your network provider is different from your wife's?
If so can you try switching your sim card and checking?
The phone I have outperforms everyone else phone in the room.
According to GSM arena Asus has more gps providers.
On my zenfone 7 i have been having issues with GPS randomly going out with plenty of satellites in view...however it also seems to be affecting my galaxy a71 5g as well as GPS receiver in my vehicle. So must be the GPS system i think? I submitted a GPS outage report to the USCG after googling how to report GPS errors...have not heard back yet but just reported last night (Sat the 25th/Sun the 26th of Sept)
#3 and 4 lol... Will see if that makes it better.
