I'm currently uploading a new version "omni-4.4.4-20141130-1704+0100-xxx-HOMEMADE.zip" for all devices.
I just tested it on my wingray and all looks good.
Wingray is already online. The other will follow in the next hours.
This will probably be the last version for omni-4.4.4 as the new development focus will be on getting lollipop running.

Long time Lurker, new to rooting my Xoom
Greetings and Merry Christmas, I am hoping for some assistance here to see if I am capable of doing this for my daughter. I have a Xoom here wife running 4.1.2. I want to give it to her as she is mad her brother got a nice new tablet and not her from Santa. I have been reading hundreds of pages trying to figure out how to get kit kat on here. I know i need to partition first, and the steps laid out on Omni's thread seem straight forward. The problem i am having is basically starting off.
I have a straight stock, unrooted Xoom wifi model. I understand everyone is busy so i apologize in advance, but dang a step by step from stock to kit kat would really help. I see a lot of threads saying what I need, however I have been unable to find anything going from a stock unrooted xoom. If anyone could give me a here dummy do this that would be great. Do I need to root first before i start the partition?
step 1) do this
step 2 do this
step 3 big part
step 4 omni instructions on kit kat
cannot unzip bigpart reflash
I've been trying for 2 days now to partion my zoom to load 4.4 on it. i have the twrp recovery on and every single time when I try to flas the twrp bigpart, i get a failed error no MD5 file found skipping md5 check error flashing zip. is the download link bad? is there a new or updated bigpart flash?
No sound / Auto rotate after 4.4.4 update
I just completed the stingray-4.4.4-cdma update on my Xoom. There is a bit of lag but most importantly I have no sound and the auto-rotate function no longer works. Any thoughts? (It is 4G capable but I am using WiFi only, not that it matters)
Thanks
Thanks for the info it helped me out
Touch Recovery Question...
I'd like to install OmniROM 4.4.4 on my XOOM (wingray). I understand the volume buttons used to navigate the Recovery menus, but the volume down button doesn't work on this tablet. Can I install a "touch" Recovery that completely circumvents the need for the volume buttons to navigate? The instructions at the beginning of this thread require "TWRP 2.6.3.0 R.A.H BigPart Edition Recovery" yet I cannot identify if this recovery is "touch".
Assistance, please?

The last update to OmniRom or CyanogenMod was November 30, 2014. I.m pretty sure that EOS is in the same boat.
I'm pretty sure that Schischu and the others are working on a Lollipop Rom based on a Tegra 2 Rom for Samsung Tab 3.
I can tell you this, when they release the new Rom it will be a good, stable Rom. Just be patient.
Though Lollipop appears to be nice, there are plenty of reasons why it's wise to wait. Many devices haven't got it yet, and there were a fair number of serious bugs in it.
In the magnums Android 4.4.4 works very well, with very few hiccups along the way I might add.
Bringing life back to my old Xoom. Now its actually usable again.
How can i get the navbar and statusbar allways on?
Hey guys, I have been trying to get this to work all day. I installed TWRP BigPart and am able to successful boot into it. Once in there I
1. Flash the BigPart TWRP from SD Card
2. Without rebooting go to "wipe" and select everything but SD. Then i get an error saying FAILED because it is unable to /mount data, cache and all the other ones selected.
I just can't seem to figure out what step i'm missing or doing wrong. Has anyone encountered this and figured it out?
If i just go ahead and flash, it gets stuck on the boot animation.

TWRP 2.6.3.0
I tried downloading TWRP that is shown on the first post, but when i click the file name it sends me to the page to download R.A.H._TWRPv2.6.3_BigPart_selinux.zip (6.51 MB). Is there anywhere else i can get the file from?

Oh yes it a 100% has to be rooted!!!! If you still want to make the jump follow the guides in the Xoom forum's..... But make sure you always have at least more than 50% of battery power (100 or just under is recommend though) & do not skip any steps or your Xoom tablet will or could become a door stop! The process is safe but I would say this as some advice, read then read again & before you root or flash your rom (READ AGAIN TO BE SAFE). But after you get going your be fine, there's plenty of very experienced Devs in this forum who know there stuff. Good luck mate & hopefully you will be joining us in the world of Rooted devices in XDA very soon

This thread is an attempt to help out the Tiamat Developers by answering the frequently asked questions in one consolidated thread. This thread should also be helpful to those who either cannot use the search feature or are having a hard time figuring out the correct search terms to find what they are looking for. If you have suggestions or added questions/answers feel free to reply and I will update the OP.
NOTE: I am not a developer. All of the information in this thread is from other members who have helped me out or information I found in the XDA forums. I do not take credit for any of the great work that has been done on this ROM and I will point back to the original answer when possible. I am only trying to help lessen the burden on the developers so they can spend more time getting us the best features. Hopefully you find this helpful as well.
I've flashed this ROM and now I get update notifications. Should I accept the update? How do I stop these notifications?
No, you should never accept an OTA upgrade when using any custom ROM/Kernel. This could result in severe problems. Your best bet is to be patient and give the developers time to react. If the update is worthwhile I am sure they will roll it out pretty quickly.
To get rid of the notifications flash Mod pack 3 as noted here.
OK I made the mistake of accepting the OTA update and now my Xoom won't boot. What can I do?
okantomi said:
Can you make it reboot by pressing volume up and power at the same time and holding? If it reboots, wait about 3 seconds once you see the dual core logo and then tap volume down you shoud see android recovery, then tap up to choose it. I hope you did a nandroid backup. If not, you can try and get fastboot by tapping volume down sooner after it reboots.

From this thread.
With this ROM certain websites don't load correctly or I can't get to the mobile version of a site.
This ROM by default sets the User Agent String to "desktop". If you want to revert to the stock settings flash either Mod pack 1 or 2 depending which version of Moray you are running. Look here.
I flashed this ROM and now when I click links in email or my file explorer the screen just dims and nothing happens.
This is a bug in Android 3.2 and not specific to this ROM. To solve this, simply ensure auto-rotate is enabled and rotate the device from landscape to portrait and back to landscape. The app chooser window should appear allowing you to choose which app to open the selected file.
I just flashed this ROM and the speed is amazing, so I OC'd it to 1.7GHz cuz I want more and I am now stuck in a boot loop. This worked for others why not me?
The Xoom was only specified to run at 1.0 GHz, anything beyond that is a gift. Due to part-to-part variation not everyone's Xoom will be stable at the same speed. Yes some people are able to run at 1.7 GHz, but many cannot. For your specific Xoom try out the various speeds, but do NOT click "Set on Boot". This way if it crashes it will revert back to stock speed and you will be able to boot. Once you are satisfied with a speed then feel free to enable "Set on Boot". Before you do so I would suggest making a nandroid backup so you can restore just in case.
How do you get out of this boot-loop? The only way I know of is to boot into recovery and restore a nandroid backup if you have one or perform a full wipe if you do not.
I updated to the latest CWM and I cannot find the zip card or I get "get error: E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)."
Latest is not always the best, for the Xoom you need to either use ClockworkMod 3.2.0.0 (R4C) or CMW Rogue Recovery v1.1.1
After flashing this ROM the Motorola icon gets distorted during boot up, is that a problem?
Basically it is not a problem. This kernel has a patch provided by NVidia which causes the distortion during boot. It does not cause any problems after it boots.
Is there a way to get the stock WiFi and Battery icons?
Yes
How do I boot into recovery without ADB or my PC attached?
There are a couple methods.
1) The latest Tiamat ROM includes this if you press and hold the power button. Just pick what you want and hit OK.
2) Download and install "Quick Boot" from the market. It gives you the above options as well as others when you run the app.
3) Turn the Xoom on, wait ~2 seconds after your see the Dual Core logo, then press the volume down key. In the upper left corner it should say "Android Recovery", then press the volume up key to select it.
How do I get started? Any good guides?
There are several guides that are pretty good. The best one I have found and personally used is here.
The Xoom Heaven thread found here is also a good place to start for all sorts of information.
If you have another question please feel free to post to this thread. If you are having a problem or have a question it is likely that someone else along the lines will have the same problem or question. I will continue to update this OP with the list of F.A.Q.s.

What version of recovery is installed now? If you have the version that doesn't recognize your external sdcard you should certainly flash a compatible recovery version through fastboot.

I tried this ROM on my 4G Xoom, but it left me without 4G or 3G (wifi only). Any way to get this working, or do I have to wait for an update?
I did try activating the network in settings, but it never connected even half an hour.
Thanks to steps mentioned by user 'LordDeath' in another thread and a bit of experimenting with a rooted 4G Xoom and a friends 3G Xoom running Moray, there seems to be a remedy for those who are having issues with the market compatibility issues as well as missing apps. I did not activate until attempting to sign in to the market and had missing apps and compatibility issues. I simply did a full wipe & reset and made sure the full activation went through in set up then let it automatically start restoring. I took a peek in the market after a a minute and all my apps were back with no compatibility issues. Here is a copy of his original post and mine but the last step was not needed for me.

Translated into English it means "Error while processing the purchase". It was a free app, btw.
To solve this issue I did the following:
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Active the device during the wizard on the first boot with my Google account
3. Restore the nandroid backup of the official 3.1 ROM
Therefore it seems that the market servers check your device-compatibility only during the activation process at the first startup.

"This fixed everything for my friend running Moray and even corrected the issues on my 4G Xoom..."
I should add that though this fixes the issue, if you change your pixel density you may run into similar issues but can correct it by setting it back to 160 before going into the market.
Alright, I have been answering threads for simple stuff about rooting, and modding the p3113, and its cousins. If you have questions about how to do anything, please post them here, and I, and others will help you. This way we can keep a running q/a thread without flooding the forum with the same question. I am in the process of writing new how to's so hopefully we have the answers to your questions in a easy to find thread. Happy new year.

RESOLVED: The ODIN flash did work after I used the right tar file.
I buried this in another Q&A thread and have no replies so far. Maybe you could give me some advice.
I tried flashing one of those firmwares for 4.1.1 which was only 357 MB and it got stuck at the boot screen, It seems I had bad instructions I followed with a link to an incomplete flash file, perhaps part 1 of a 2 part download. When it flashed it last said it was updating remaining files and then went back to the recovery, When I rebooted it stuck at the recovery even after a data wipe. I tried flashing a 3113 rooted stock rom and it gives me an E:signature verification failed. I used odin to flash the 4.04 stock rom which passes, but it still freezes at the boot screen even after a data wipe. Should I try flashing CWM recovery through odin to get around the signature verification or does someone know another procedure that has worked to get back to stock 4.04 from this condition. I have seen this mentioned a couple of times in the development threads with users indicating that they got back to stock, but without details of exactly how.
The firmware I apparently partially flashed was GT-P3113_P3113UECLI4-OTA-P3113UEBLH2_XAR_374372839
Also I was not able to see if usb debugging was enabled since I could not do anything but recovery or download modes on the tablet.

Power button and the Volume button directly next to the Power button will bring you into "Recovery mode".
Power button and the Volume button furthest away will bring you into "Download mode".
To boot into "Safe mode" When the tablet is on press the power button till the reboot menu appears then press and hold the Reboot button , until you get the option to boot into safe mode. Reboot and you are good to go.
Thought I'd try this rather than a new thread.
Hi Jeramy, hopefully you have some advice.
My problem: I want to be able to install some apps on the SD card, and still use the stock 4.1.2 that I upgraded to using Kies.
What I've discovered so far:
Samsung doesn't like moving apps to SD (Link2SD for example which makes a soft link in the normal Samsung place to the SD card)
First must jailbreak
Jailbreaking uses "odin" (something to put Roms on) and a ROM
So far I've got Link2SD, and downloaded some ROMs, but there doesn't seem to be a good ROM that is basically just the stock + superuser. I do see some for France etc.
One thought I had is will this work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1887757
Wherein they install some Zip somehow. What's the CWM do? Is it version dependent?
Anyhow, thanks I hope this makes some sense.

@Sean Seany
Thanks Sean for picking up the question. I have been shirking my duties here, and I apologize. Are you serious about your question, or are you pulling my leg. I know you have been around here much longer than I have, and have answered one of my questions already. If you are serious though, cant you just Odin back to stock with official firmware, and take the ota? This is my first Samsung so I am learning as I go. Though rooting Samsung's is so much easier than my Rezound. We have to short the board with a paperclip to achieve s off on it.
Edit, I used this to install the official from UK.(p3110) on my p3113. Complete stock. I would imagine you would do the same, just use all 3110 files.

@ QFX
First, sorry. I havent checked this thread today, and whenever i need something answered, i want it yesterday. It sounds to me like you haven't been in the android world too long. If you have, I mean no disrespect. So far, I have ran a few custom ROMs, but the stock experience is really smooth in my opinion. My best advice is to try a couple, and see what you like. Now to answer your questions. Clockworkmod is a custom recovery that allows you to backup your tablet in the state it is in when you make the back up. It also allows you to flash custom ROMs Like the ones you downloaded. It is a must have if you plan on rooting(jail breaking). Yes they are version specific. There are guides that will walk you through this, and it is pretty simple. If you look in the threads for cf auto root, the thread will walk you through it. After you do this, you will need to flash Clockworkmod. It is in the same threads. Look under development. Both of these files have to be flashed through odin on your computer. As soon as you flash Clockworkmod, reboot into recovery, and make a backup. This way, you can flash other ROMs, and if you want to go back, just restore your backup in Clockworkmod. I am crashing in a few, but will send you links to the files that you need tomorrow. Remember to read the guides a couple of times to make sure you understand everything before you try. After I send you the links, if you need additional help, pm me, and I will walk you through it. Good luck, and have fun
Add on
Apps2sd no longer works, but there is a script that allows you to switch your Mount points for external, and internal storage. I have a class 10 32 gig SD card that now works as my internal storage. The only thing is that you have to manually switch the files between the two at the start so the os can find what it is looking for. I will send you a link for that too.

I've tried rooting the my tab and installing the latest stable CM10 ROM but I still don't get the option.

I'm trying to root a galaxy tab 2 7.0 p3113 on 4.1.1. What I'm wondering is, can I use the same stuff as the 4.0.4 that I found in the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788625 or are there specific files for 4.1.1?

Hi Jeremy,
I just rooted my 3113 and I've lost my external sd card when looking in my files. It is however showing that my internal storage is 29.7G. Obviously I've gone and loused the thing up somehow.. After exhaustively searching the fourms, installing "ntfs mounter" and "ntfssd," trying to mount from CW, and trying different cards - I'm more than a little fustrated. I just realized that the movies that I had on the internal memory are not showing either. Any help for a "12:00 Flasher: would be appreciated
I've got CW and I used "gtab2_jellybean_rooter"
@ caniknow it sounds like you flashed the partition swap that swaps the external, and internal memory. Try powering off, and removing ad card, then reboot. See if it can't see internal at all. That will give me some idea of what is going on. I highly recommend cf auto root for jellybean. Super simple, and works without issues.
@ rains try cf autoroot.

Ok, I did as you suggested
After rebooting without the card: Memory shows 4.49GB
Movies stored on internal have returned
My Files show correct list again
YAY!!! It's not broken!
Ok, now with the 32G card (formatted NTFS - forgot to mention that) reinstalled, the memory has reverted to 29.7GB and showing everything (yes, everything from internal memory; though it is showing that there are memory using applications, file and such, though different amounts) has disappeared once more. GRRR
Tried NtfsSd to mount card: nodda. Tried Ntfs Mounter again: nodda Tried powering down and loading CW, inserting the card and mounting there: nodda Tried touching my left ear whilst standing on one foot in 10" of snow and holding the power button, then swiping left, left, down, uppercut, triangle, square.... once again, nothing.
Back to without the card and rebooting. Everything normal. ?????? I'm now at a total loss.
All I want is to seemlessly transfer my +12GB movies from my media storage to the tab and watch them in the car using the bluetooth interface for the sound. I need the NTFS to do this without chopping the movie into little bits that ruins the sound - and so began this quest which is turning out to be epic. Please help me slay the monster that is my lack of programming knowledge.
Hello all!
Do you want TWRP, a 2nd bootloader, and custom roms at your fingertips for your Kindle Fire HD? Well you have come to the right place! Over the past months, through trial and error, I've managed a full-proof, easy method to unlock the Kindle Fire HD's true potential. While this is aimed at 7" devices, it should work no problem on the 8.9 either - however you will have to use your head. These instructions are geared towards the 7", and you will have to realize what changes to this blueprint you personally will need to make with the 8.9.
!WARNING! WHILE THIS HAS WORKED FOR ME ON MULTIPLE DEVICES, YOU MUST FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY. I PERSONALLY SUGGEST YOU FIRST BUY A SkOrPn FACTORY CABLE IN CASE ANYTHING GOES WRONG. (Although using this guide, it almost certainly will not. Still, those cables come in handy!! :good:
Also, I would like to point everyone to seokhun's thread on this matter, which came before my own: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909
BIG thanks to LinearEquation for helping maintain this thread. Trust any advice he gives; it WILL help!
Although our posts on this process are essentially similar, he goes far more in depth on the process, and has an excellent troubleshooting section if something here goes wrong for you and I cannot respond to your question soon enough (although if done right, that won't happen )
Ok. Lets begin!
Step One: Download Kindle Fire First Aide, an amazing tool which is only getting better: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888
This is probably the most work-intensive step, although once you have it you'll be glad you do. You are to follow the directions on this thread and install the necessary files, and adb drivers. This is necessary for your KFHD7 to communicate with your computer properly. When finished, make sure your Kindle has ADB enabled under its device settings.
lets see if you're ready for step 2. Plug your kindle in and check your device manager. If your kindle fire shows up as "android adb interface" then you sir/ madam are ready. If not, please use the Kindle Fire First Aide (hereafter referred to as KFFA) thread to find out where you went wrong. The answer you seek will be there, I promise you.
Step Two: BACK UP ANY FILES/FOLDERS/MOVIES/ETC YOU WANT TO KEEP. STEP THREE WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE!
Step Three: Here, we are going to use KFFA to reset our device to 7.2.3. Make sure you have transferred any backups you have made to your computer. Run KFFA and select the option that reads "Reboot the Kindle into Fastboot Mode". At the time of this posting, there are two options to do this. Try the preferred option first, and if that doesn't work, try the alternative method. Alternatively, just plug your kindle in with a fastboot/factory cable to get it into fastboot. YOUR DEVICE MUST BE IN FASTBOOT MODE FOR THE NEXT STEP
Step Four: while in fastboot mode, in KFFA, use the option "COMPLETELY RESTORE THE KFHD7 7.2.3. This will take a while, and you will be prompted at certain points to continue. I usually chose not to wipe user data at the end, as for me at least it takes forever and shouldn't be necessary.
Step Five: While still in KFFA, Disable Amazon's OTA updates with the option provided. This is important - If an update sneaks by, you will have to start from scratch!
Once KFFA says it's finished, unplug your device and hold the power button to hard-reset it. Now boot it back on. Your kindle will now be stock 7.2.3, with google play and superuser installed, along with root permissions.
Step Six: Here we go! Download the provided FireFlash11.apk, kfhd7-Freedom-boot-7.3.0.img, and kfhd7-twrp 2.4.4.0-recovery.img to your computer. Connect your KFHD7, make sure you check "allow installations of unknown applications" on your kindle's options (they will have reset thanks to KFFA, don't forget), and go to either the amazon or google play marketplace and find a file browser you can use to navigate to your download folder. Find where you placed the FireFlash11.apk, open it, and install.
Step Seven: Almost there guys! Open up your new FireFlash app. The first thing you (should) notice is that there is a warning that you have the incorrect bootloader at this moment. Check the box that says "Flash kfhd7-u-boot-prod-7.2.3.bin. scroll to the bottom of the app, where it says "execute", and press "flash, install script". Exit the program and reboot your device.
Step Eight: Now that your kindle has rebooted, open up the FireFlash app again. This time, you should see no warnings at the bootloader. If for some reason you do, STOP and retrace your steps. If you see no warnings, we're ready to install the 2nd bootloader and TWRP!! While still in FireFlash, under "boot partition" it should say "not flashed". Click on the "not flashed", and navigate to the "kfhd7-Freedom-boot-7.3.0.img" that we downloaded earlier. Check the box next to "apply stack override".
Now, under "recovery partition", again select the "not flashed" box and navigate this time to the "kfhd7-twrp 2.4.4.0-recovery.img". Once in place, check the "disable recovery auto update" box to the right. Now scroll to the bottom, to where it says "execute", and tap "Flash, install script" just like we did before with the bootloader.
Thats it! Select "reboot into recovery" from the Fireflash app if you're still in it, and if you followed the instructions and put everything where it belongs, you should wind up in TWRP after your kindle reboot (dont worry if you see the blue kindle fire logo for a minute before it enters TWRP - it's completely normal. From here you can install custom roms, wipe your cache, and most importantly MAKE BACKUPS!
ATM I am using Hashcode's CM10.1 with the 1.5 ghz kernal, with Nova Launcher Prime and LMT launcher. It's simply amazing the difference in both speed and functionality. Hopefully, this guide got you there and now you too can enjoy a fully unlocked Amazon Kindle Fire HD!
Here is a link to the page for Hashcode's CM10.1, If you want to give it a shot I highly recommend it!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245335
One last note. I want to make it clear that I have not personally developed any of these tools, I've just organized them for you. The real ones you want to be thanking if this works are the developers. Thanks Devs!! :good:

Unfortunately, I lack the recording equipment or I would do so and link it. however, I promise if you follow the instructions closely, there should be no issues. And if for some reason you run into trouble, just post the problem and I'll do my best to walk you it. I realize there are other guides out there, but in my opinion this is currently the easiest one to get you through it. Good luck friend

I wrote this tutorial as a newer method of achieving TWRP/2nd bootloader, as every OTA update amazon pushes out makes different root methods temporarily break/ ineffective, while this method SHOULD always remain consistent with the help of KFFA doing the rooting. However upon going back and looking over your thread again, I now realize there are quite a few similarities. I strived to simplify mine as much as possible, which is why I avoided the troubleshooting section and left explanations of the process to a minimum. As your guide is more in depth, I will edit my original post to include a link to yours as well should people want additional information/help. Please, don't look at this guide as an attempt to derail yours - rather as an attempt to simplify it even more. I apologize for not mentioning your thread in my original, that was an unfortunate oversight, and thank you for bringing it to my attention :good:

Brilliant!!
Had a look at your guide and thought why not...checked with Chris of KFFA about rooting KFHD 7 with 7.4.3 update, he gave me the 'fakebackup' file. Rooted with KFFA....followed EXACTLY from your step 6 to 8 and ATM doing a TWRP backup.
Fantastic job mate.
One question though. If I am going to put another ROM to KFHD7, do I need to do a full wipe (cache, factory, delvik) everytime before a flash install?

I'm delighted to hear that my guide helped you! And sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Seokhun seems to have managed to point you in the right direction, but in case anyone else needs an answer (or of course, you still do ) you only need to fully wipe when going from one type of Rom to another (ie: from stock Amazon to cyanogenmod). This is known as a "clean flash". Otherwise, if say you are simply upgrading cyanogenmod or whatever Rom you're on to a new update, all you really need to do is a "dirty flash" - wipe delvik/cache and you're good to go!
More info on this can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882629
Cheers!

I thought I would post here my experience with the latest 7.4.6 Amazon update.
I placed the update on my HD7" and was able to update.
When I booted, 2nd Bootloader/LOG was gone.
I decided to try this again.
I rooted the tablet and used Fireflash to re-load 2ndbootloader using the 7.4.3 series of Hashcode files.
Once I was not able to boot up into the 7.4.6 OS because the 7.4.3 boot image is used for 2nd bootloader as I expected.
I had downloaded, the 7.4.3.zip stock OS to the sdcard originally so, it was still present locally.
I flashed the OS zip and I was back to 7.4.3.
I downloaded 7.4.6 again to the tablet and again was presented with the Bright update Kindle in "More+/Device/About".
After, the update, I was again without 2nd boot and unrooted.
Point though is the update should not occur if the zip OS was in fact blocking OTA updates.
Is the zip file supposed to have OTA blocked?
I used KFFA to block updates as a second test and once disabled with KFFA, the update is Grayed out and then once re-enabled with KFFA, the update is bright and does update.
I know a lot of people have complained about OTA happening even when blocked...
It looks like this Zip is not blocking.
I will try the LINUX rootplus to see if it blocks OTA...

Yes: Of course, you would keep what works and in this case, KFFA works.
However a ton of people have used various other methods over the last year or two and KFFA is pretty new.
Lots of people have written in saying "why did I get an update when I am blocked?"
I was just offering a reason why.
You can find lots of pre-rooted ROMs on the forum that all say "Rooted, No ADs, and OTA blocked, Gapps, etc.".
The user takes that descriptor on faith and flashes the ROM thinking they have what they need.
In my case, I purposefully updated to 7.4.6 and needed a way to get back to an older version of Kindle OS.
I restored back to 7.3.0 then flashed Hashcode's, 7.4.3 ZIP OS.
It was there I realized I could then update to 7.4.6 which I should not have been able to do.
Just a point of information.
Another point or question is whether there is a difference between a true OTA update that takes place automatically and the case where the user downloads the update to the tablet and then selects "Update" in Device/about. I have always thought it might be nice to have an option where the OTA is blocked but, the user could still download and update manually. When the KFFA method is used to block OTA, both options are blocked.

I have rooted my n8013, but every time I try to install a rom it "freezes". I purchased ROM Manager, but whenever I check the download roms there is on a small section with nightlies...I thought for $6 I would get a list of all available roms...was I wrong?
I did download Android Revolution 9.0 and CM 10.2, I added them to my tablet, I disconnected the tablet from the PC. I then booted to recovery with ROM Manager. I managed to get Android Revolution to the point of installing google apps, but it froze, I couldn't click anything or do anything. I tried to redownload and reinstall it on the tablet but it just freezes at random points in the installation.
I have tried to install CM 10.2...twice and both times it just sits at CyanogenMod loop (Blue circle with 2 spinning "wheels" going in opposite directions). I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but this is the hardest time I have ever had rooting & installing a rom. I am no pro and I don't understand all of the lingo, could someone please either help me, or point me to a step by step guide?
Thanks!

I followed this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIYiXzcW7xs
I then followed this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102677 for the recovery.
Now I have actually managed to get CM 10.2 to work, but I cannot figure out the Gapps. I downloaded them to my pc and tried to put them on the tablet but there is no program that can open them (or so the tablet says). I could go poking around, but I don't want to break anything so I figured I would just wait for a response.
I was actually debating on doing a complete wipe and starting back at square 1. Then following this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZKGWN-TQE0 But that just seems like to much work, I have a feeling I am very close to being done and I and want to start all over.
I wanted to get Revolution to work but it wants to fight with me so whatever.

Did you read the special notes in the Revolution HD rom site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547 In the you need section it says that you need the Custom recovery by "High On Android" Then there is a section on the same page that tells you how to flash. You need to follow the directions exactly.
Don't know if you know this but the directions on the 1st video put the CWM recovery on the tablet and then when you did the 2nd video you over wrote that CWM recovery that Revolution HD is compatible with and the one you installed is not recommended by Revolution HD.
I had Revolution HD on when I was rooted and I liked it....... If it were me...... I would return to factory rom........ then follow the exact directions in the first video........
Then follow the directions on the Revolution HD site link I sent you.
Curious......... why are you rooting? What do you want that factory rom does not have?

The reason I want to root is because..well..I want to learn. I cannot learn just by reading, I have to do hands on..I have to actually try it before I can learn it. I am so fascinated by tablets and android that I could sit here tinker and poking around for hours. Another reason I want to root is because I have read that rooting can improve battery life, and that samsungs touch wiz is "buggy". I have noticed that at times things don't seem to work as they should be (buggy, glitchy, choppy).
I was unaware that I flashed over cwm. How do I return it to factory rom and start all over?
Thanks for the help btw, I really appreciate it.

Big big problem with that is you are far more likely to end up with a brick .
As the posts shows you are not hands on as you have failed to read the instructions and have to resort to asking users to tell you what those instructions you failed to read are .
Rooting cannot improve battery life .

I followed his guide on how to unroot. I made it to step 9 before it said that it had failed. Once I tried to reboot the tablet it said
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issues. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I downloaded Kies but it wouldn't connect to the tablet.
I did find this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311507

What firmware number did you download and what country do you reside.
Are you using an official Samsung data charging cable and did you purchase the tablet new?
Are you using a usb extension cable?
Can you get into recovery or download mode?
When you plug the tablet into your computer is it recognized?

First, from my research that was just a Soft Brick..so not a big big problem.
Second hands on means you learn as you go..I am learning as I go, trial and error. Some people learn better by reading, some people learn better by doing. I am the one who learns better by doing. I have rooted a few other tablets with zero issues. I managed to figure out what was wrong BY MY SELF....trial and error. So your statement about me having to resort to asking users to tell me what those instructions are, I followed the instructions on how to unroot...they are what caused me to soft brick.
According to Mike1986 at this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547
In the ROM Details, it says Excellent Battery Life.
According to http://www.droidviews.com/install-android-revolution-hd-rom-on-omega-rom-on-galaxy-note-10-1-gt-n8000n8010n8013/
As for the battery life, it is far better that what you get with stock ROM on your Note 10.1.

I managed to figure out what the problem was. The firmware link that is posted by Max is for the galaxy note 2. I am not sure if thats just old or what. I went to samfirmware and I downloaded one and I reset the tablet to factory setting.
First I want to thank you kkretch for all of your help, I am a amateur, learning what all the lingo means. I am not sure if the other poster just knew everything about tablets without having problems or not. But I know that I have had no issues except this time..no biggie just learning is all (imo).
I did want to ask you. Beings I am unrooted can I follow this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZKGWN-TQE0 or should I follow Max's tutorial on how to root and then follow this guide?
Again, thank you.

There is a bad link in the printed directions but you should always go directly to samfirmware for the latest firmware updates.
I hope you know that you nearly bricked your device, it is a must to read and follow directions that are posted exactly.
I hope you know that CM 10.2 will take away S-Pen function.
Max has ROM reviews on his site for most of the popular ones.
As your just starting I would stick with videos that show you how to install roms for your specific device. And if you choose to root again after you do so the next step would be to do a full backup in CWM recovery to a microsd card so if you run into problems you can always restore back to that point.
Good luck

I was actually looking at some of those roms, and I checked through Max's videos, he did reviews of them but doesn't show how to install them. This is where I got confused. I would love to find a tutorial that goes step by step through it. I also did have CM 10.2 on the tablet, I was still able to use the pen. Which is all I really want, I bought the note 10.1 for the specs (2gb of ram). As for the pen, I pretty much just use it for drawing and for selecting small fonts and links.
The 2nd video I posted seems very easy, I just don't know if I need to follow Max's root first, or if I can just follow the 2nd video from start to finish. I am thinking that I need to root again, and then follow the 2nd video.
Do you have a rom that you recommend? and a video tutorial that I should follow?

You are on your own....... I'm not making any recommendations. I have rooted and unrooted many times but I keep going back to stock and that is were I'm staying. lately I have seen a bunch of post like yours with rooting problem and bricking or soft bricking.
If you still want to install a custom ROM your better off going to each roms page under Galaxy Note 10.1 Android Development and read up on them.
Good luck.

Hey all this will seems to be quite an odd thread to all. but its been long i have been using generic HTC one S and i know this site very well since i bought my phone 3 years ago!
Very well, I need to know some basic stuff so i can get perfect mod and upgraded without making it available for my younger brother to play with it by throwing it on wall.
So a good help will be really appreciated.
Only couple of questions:
1. Best ROM that support Indian HTC one S models.
2. Best and 100% working method to get this done successfully.
3. Any way i can backup the generic ROM and framework and get things moving ?
please don't get angry on me, just help me to get my phone renovated.
Thanks XDA

Hi there,
Im a One S user, so PM me if you need anything or reply to this thread so everyone can see
Answers:
1) This matters on opinion, but I would recommend cyanogenmod 11 (or 12.1 as Lollipop). Don't do this yet, see answer 3 to back up.
2) I would just follow my next answer here but if you need a detailed reply, reply back.
3) Unlock bootloader, quite easy, and S-OFF first, in case you lose any data. Any music/pics/etc pls transfer to pc first . Then, after S-OFF (or unlocked bootloader) install a custom recovery TWRP by getting the img file, booting to FASTBOOT mode (If you are on stock OS then go to Settings -> Power -> Uncheck fast boot (This will allow you to boot into fastboot)) .
Then, if that's all succesfull, the rest is easy . Download a new rom (like my answer 1 suggests, CM11 or CM12.1) then flash it . I highly recommend making a nandroid backup in TWRP after this is done transfer to PC. With TWRP 2.8.7.0 you can enable MTP mode in recovery, and then transfer whole TWRP folder to PC. Then, give a full wipe twice for all partition in TWRP (except for USB-OTG obviously).
Any more questions please contact me or reply to this thread, thanks.
