[Q] How can I change the model number of my Samsung S5 - General Questions and Answers

Dear friends
I would like to know if it's possible to edit/change the model number of my Samsung S5 from SM-G900V to SM_G900M.
The country I currently live in is working on a project so that only certain and registered phone models will work with the local carriers come 1st January 2015. Basically what they are trying to do is force their citizens to buy mobile phones from local carriers only and thus your phone will come with the required model number for your phone to work so we are desperately looking for a way around this problem.
Please help us!
Kind regards

you can change some information of your phone by editing build.prop but these will be fake info

[Q] quick Ans needed- buying edge from Dubai to UK-baseband locked/version confusion

Hi,
I am buying a note edge tomorrow, so if someone knowledgeable may answer my questions, It would be much appreciated.
I'm buying the edge from someone in Dubai to use in the UK
The guy said (because it was cheaper) he bought the European version (SM-N915FY) instead of the SM-N915G (which is the international version in most shops in Dubai)
He mentioned it was 4g and his baseband is ANK4 (I have no idea what that means)- does that mean I can use it in the UK unrestricted with any UK network and get 4g speeds?
My other main concern is while I was trying to research this I came across troublesome concerns -
1) I saw someone selling the N915FY version on ebay who said he can't get a signal and has service issues in the UK and the phone can only be used for emergency calls - but phone will work abroad
2) Another ebay seller was selling N915FY version with a sticker on the box which said "EUROPEAN MODEL - this product must be activated with a sim card issued from a mobile operator from EUROPE "
so for those two reasons , I am very concerned - can someone clarify the situation please?
It is the first time I am buying a used phone so not sure what to look for
It also looks like the N915G has had a stable lollipop update, so is that the better version compared with N915FY?
Thanks for your time

Note 7 help

Can i please get some advice? (sorry a bit long but thought i need to provide the background info).
I have been given a Samsung Note 7 as a compensation-related gift by my network operator Vodafone and to cut a very long story short i have almost exhausted all possibilities with Vodafone and Samsung to get it exchanged for a different model or a credit.
I am currently looking at the possibilities of keeping my Note 7 if i feel i can assess (and possibly repair) it privately to confirm the safety implications and any other issues that may come up.
My questions are as follows:
1. Has anyone had success changing the Imei and model number? The reason is to protect myself from network barring and to retain app support. I have a previous Note and can use the imei. My plan was to change the model to G935F that of an S7 Edge. (There are some sites i came across but I wasn’t sure the guides were tested)
2. Can i root it and will i be able to update it regularly from core android?
3. Will the Wifi-calling feature work? Sounds like a small thing but its quite important. I have this feature on my Note 7 already and activated on my account and its very useful to me.
I live in the UK and I am an Engineer by trade. I worked for a cellular phone repair centre a number of years ago that specialised with Samsung and Nokia phones.
Whilst i have some experience and contacts in the industry, my knowledge of the current software/ firmware platforms on the market is limited so i would greatly appreciate any advice you can give.
Thanks in advance

Galaxy S7 Duos [SM-G930FD] Not matching caller ID to contact name

I recently switched from a regular international Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F) to the Dual SIM model (SM-G930FD) and noticed an issue.
In my country (Malta - EU) we have three major mobile providers, one of these sends the caller number as 99###### whereas the others send it in full country code format +356 79######. I have all my contacts saved in international format for convenience sake during travel. Since getting the dual sim model, if my phone receives a call with the short 8-digit number, it's not matching the contact to the full country code. This did not happen with the regular international model.
Is there any way to correct this short of adding both formats to every contact?
Thanks
In my opinion it is not a problem of devices but software. Have you checked the ROM version of the dualsim handset?
Dualsims are not sold in Europe,so if you use stock version it is probable that it will not work.
Install the same ROM that you have on the single sim and try whether it works.

Different SKUs?

Hello everyone...
I am transitioning away from iOS thanks to the Z Fold 2 after 13 years (on iOS since the 3GS) and one of the biggest concerns I have right now is whether the US version of the phone is compatible with NFC-F (FeliCa).
I have family in Japan and having used Suica alongside my phone and Apple Watch made all the difference in the world while there...
My question: I remember reading somewhere that the hardware on the Z Fold 2 is exactly the same everywhere... Considering there is no chance on Earth a manufacturer would release a flagship in Japan without FeliCa, my hope is that the US version will also be compatible with it.
Where can I find the list of specific SKUs (assuming Samsung has something similar to Apple)?
Thank you!
Samsung differentiates their products by market. Typically features are common within individual market groups (EG: Europe, Asia, U.S.). This year the radios are different in each phone with 5G bands varying by country. Instead of SKU's Samsung alters the model numbers. So there's no assurance that phones from one region will support all the radio bands and features from another region. Here's the Fold 2 page from the Samsung Japan site. There's probably a chat or phone number to call and they'd be able to answer your question.

Samsung Galaxy XCover 6 Pro - are there different versions?

Hi all, I'm asking here because there is no dedicated subforum for XCover 6.
So, I'm planning on buying Galaxy XCover 6Pro but I'm getting confused if there are different version of it out on the market? I've noticed that shops in my country (Poland) mark phones they are selling using these three different product numbers:
sm-g736bzkdeeb,
sm-g736bzkdeee,
sm-g736bzkd
with the first one (EEB) being called "Enterprise Edition" appearing in most of stores while the offical samsung.com store lists XCover 6Pro with "EEE" product number. Neverthless google shows up a samsung page for the "EEB" model too.
https://www.samsung.com/uk/business/smartphones/xcover/galaxy-xcover6-pro-sm-g736bzkdeeb/
https://www.samsung.com/levant/business/smartphones/xcover/galaxy-xcover6-pro-sm-g736bzkdeee/
So i checked the specs, in stores and on these samsung pages and they all appear to be the same XCover 6 Pro, 6GB 5G phones with Dual Sim in black colour.
So here is my question. Are they really the same phone or there is some difference that's my eye is missing?
The difference between the two devices you have named, is that one is made for the German market (EEB) and one is made for the eastern European and Swiss/Austrian markets (EEE).
There may be some issues with things such as samsung pay if you are using a device outside of its region but overall the device should work fine either way.
With the previous model (G715FN), I was able to flash to my local firmware without issue and all bands worked flawlessly as well as all localised features such as samsung pay. Unfortunately once this is done, you will not receive OTA updates any longer as it recognises your device has been modified. This may be because I tripped knox doing all this.
The only other thing to look out for is that you aren't buying a device that has been locked to a given carrier, or requires a sim from that carrier for activation.
Again, there's usually ways around this but you don't need to complicate your life like that.
If you are able to buy locally, surely they can give you some assurances that the device will work with your local providers?
There is no difference in specs, bands etc, it's just localisation support and operator specific configurations to worry about.
Samsung generally include all international MBN files in their modem config files so it's not such a huge deal these days as long as you can successfully register the device for use.

I have one I got recently, but have not used Magisk. Doesn't one have to access bootloader to do that? Which is my question: Anyone have an unlock for the bootloader?
Yes. There's instructions Here
