Hi,
does anybody know if I enable the automatic backup feature then when are the backups sent to google servers? Does it like sync all the time or when charging the phone or...?
Why I'm asking this is if the syncing is going on all the time then it might cause some unneeded battery drain or wakelocks.
Thanks!

When flashing a new rom should you NOT let Google restore (sync) until restoring apps with Titanium Backup. And after TB is done then log in to Google?
Yes...I always turn data/wifi off before restoring, then turn it on after I'm done. If not, Google will try to redownload all previously installed apps...which dont have your data saved!

So if you turn off data/wifi before flashing a rom it will stay off?

Probably not, but first thing I do when it boots is to turn everything off.

Thanks! I will give it a shot.
Before you flash, you can clear your data off of the google servers by going into privacy and unchecking back up my data and automatic restore. A message will popup asking if you want to erase your google server info. This will erase all saved settings EXCEPT contacts, calendars, mail.
So basically when you wipe your phone, it will be like you received your phone brand new.
When you restart again, you can skip the touch android screen by watching this video.

Then you can add you google account for mail later.
I currently sync everything via g-mail (contacts, calendar, ect.), but I'm wondering if there is a way to limit when or how often this happens with auto sync on. There's really no reason I see that my contacts or calendar would need to update more than once a day, but they seem to by syncing constantly and probably negatively affecting my battery life.
Anyone have any advice?
Thanks.
anyone? I'd hate for my only option to be manually syncing from now on...
I'm pretty sure with Google it works on a push system. Gmail definitely works that way so this is only a guess as to other services. If I'm right it will only update if something needs to be updated. Say you're on your desktop and change a contact it will get pushed to your phone. Otherwise it stays idle. I just checked my accounts and the last sync I had was from last night.

You could use an app like Tasker to toggle data sync for your device with the interval you want. Although this will change all syncing for you device to be on the same schedule.

I just checked and everything except my gmail synced an hour ago with no changes made. I'll have to keep checking it periodically to see how often it's doing it.
Tasker seems overly complicated and I don't really want to pay for an app that I might not end up using for more than just this.
My mistake. I've looked back at my multiple Google accounts and various things like Gmail and calendar sync pretty frequently. But other stuff like drive and books were last synced last night. So long story short I can't help with your original question of how to change the frequency of syncs. Sorry about that.
You can always use Synker (free) from the Play Store to setup different sync buttons to sync the items you want. Its not really and automatic solution but saves battery by not using Auto Sync.
Hi, I have never figured out why whenever i flash i often lose saved contacts or calendar appointments. Could it be a sync setting? like my phone overrides the cloud or something?
I am hoping to finally jump to jellybean today, but i've been afraid somehow i'll lose too many important calendar appointments for my work. Any tips at how to ensure these always stick? I typically sync everything...then flash....then sign in and upon re-sync find things missing!
I had my first scheduled Titanium backup run last night, but when I woke up I found that my Wi-Fi and mobile data connections weren't working (even though they still displayed as connected/functional). Has this happened to anyone else? What could be going on here?
(Rebooting fixed things, but I'm still curious as to why this happened.)

Never use titanium backup for system apps. Only use for purposes of restoring the user apps you download and such. By scheduling the system apps/etc, the program actually breaks those apps/programs functions by restore/backup. Especially with titanium backup, refer to other threads that have had similar issues to see as well.
Hi all, I recently upgraded to CM13 and I noticed that after a while the phone is in idle, whatsapp ceases to work and I don't receive messages unless I go open up the app again.
What i've tried so far:
I removed battery optimization for whatsapp from the settings>apps menu
I ensured greenify isn't greenifying it
I removed modded kernel/xposed etc to check if something there was causing it
none of the above helped. Is there any other process that might be dozed which may impact on whatsapp? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Did you restore WhatsApp with Titanium Backup?
If so, backup your current chats (within WhatsApp!), deinstall WhatsApp, install WhatsApp again via Play Store or latest apk.
Finally restore your chats.
This happens on all Messengers which are restored by Titanium Backup (e.g. Hangouts, Threema).
All of them are using Googles Cloud Messaging Service (GCM) for push notifications.
I guess the app is not registered correctly to receive push notifications when restored and not installed.
Or do you mean that your phone is in deepsleep (idle and screen off)?
Does it happen on wifi only or also on data connection?
