Whatsapp not staying in background since cm13 - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I recently upgraded to CM13 and I noticed that after a while the phone is in idle, whatsapp ceases to work and I don't receive messages unless I go open up the app again.
What i've tried so far:
I removed battery optimization for whatsapp from the settings>apps menu
I ensured greenify isn't greenifying it
I removed modded kernel/xposed etc to check if something there was causing it
none of the above helped. Is there any other process that might be dozed which may impact on whatsapp? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Did you restore WhatsApp with Titanium Backup?
If so, backup your current chats (within WhatsApp!), deinstall WhatsApp, install WhatsApp again via Play Store or latest apk.
Finally restore your chats.
This happens on all Messengers which are restored by Titanium Backup (e.g. Hangouts, Threema).
All of them are using Googles Cloud Messaging Service (GCM) for push notifications.
I guess the app is not registered correctly to receive push notifications when restored and not installed.
Or do you mean that your phone is in deepsleep (idle and screen off)?
Does it happen on wifi only or also on data connection?

[Q] Nandroid Restore = can't send emails, limited sync with gMail

I'm on an Epic Touch 4G. However, I also had this issue with my prior Evo 4g.
If I do a Nandroid restore, gMail stops send emails. It continues to receive emails, but does not sync with gmails servers when I delete, archive or relabel an email. The only solution I have found is to delete the gMail data, and redo all my settings. Then everything works fine. By the way, restoring the settings from Titanium does not solve the problem. I've even tried delete the gmail data, then restoring the settings (and the entire App with settings), and I still get this behavior.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I'm having the same exact issue after nandroid. Won't let me remove the the gmail account be
cause it's my primary account. How do you delete gmail data?
Go to android settings, applications, gmail. press clear data

thanks for that!
Unfortunately, I find this continues to happen. Even though I'm now on a Samsung Galaxy SIII. Something about nandroid restores breaks gmail. I have to clear data every time, and re do all gmail settings b/c if I restore them from Titanium Backup, the problem is not solved. So strange.
Same issue here.
It also happen for other applications.

I just got this on my GSII with CM KK. I did an "uninstall updates" and it started working again and I didn't have to recreate anything. Then went to play store and updated Gmail.

Titanium backup: restore email settings in ARHD

Hello,
I had ARHD 3.2 and I upgraded to 3.4.
I must do a wipe, because the tablet reboot continuously.
I restored all my apps (backupped with Titanium).
I have a problem with the email client: my email account has been vanished!
I have 5 email account, each with its own configuration, it's very frustrating to reconfigure all!
Regards.
It's very likely gone, you can try restoring again, but most likely gone. Titanium glitches for me sometimes if apps store data in a weird location, maybe this is the case?
Make sure full backup of the app is always checked, too.
It was probably stored in a different location and not backed up.

I tried many times, with no good result.
I have a widget (from asus) that display unread emails, when I restore the email apps the counter says 6 email, when I open the email app, It load about 10 seconds (more than usual) and propose me the wizard to add new email account, and the count come backup to 0.
The apps is the default android email client, i restore only the data because is a system app.

No Messenger Notifications after reflash

I just reflashed the same ROM/kernel that I've been using for months (HFP2.4.2 and Trinity), but now I'm not getting any notifications from the Facebook Messenger app even though I'm getting notifications from every other app I use (e.g. Hangouts and Gmail).
It could be that it stemmed from the fact that I backed it up with its data using MyBackup Root, but since I've restored it, I've tried wiping its data, uninstalling/reinstalling (which includes the latest update to the app), wiping its data using Titanium, logging in and out, checking notification settings for the app, wiping Cache/Dalvik in CWM etc.
I'm not sure if there's something else I could do, or if there's an order to the way I should wipe the data (if that will in fact fix anything).
Thank you for any advice that you can offer.

Search for an older version (apk) and install that. Worth a shot.

Are you sure that you just don't have notifications disabled for fb messenger?

Thanks for the replies so far. I tried to roll back to two versions before the current one, but I am still not getting anything unless I'm in the chat with the person who's messaging in the app itself.
I tried turning on and off the notifications inside the app (like Chat Heads and the master notification setting), and at most I occasionally get chat head to pop up, but only temporarily and without any vibration.

Turns out this issue also extends to other apps like WordFeud and other games, and I've since tried other ROMS and Kernels, but still nothing.
Any ideas?

Restore SMS in Android 5.1

I have ~5000 sms messages backup file in XML made with SMS Backup and Restore.
On my Nexus 5 I deleted hangouts app and I have default Textra app for sms.
But after importing (approx ~10 min) it says successfully but the messages aren't there, only 6 of them.
The same is with Titanium Backup XML.
This has always worked before. Is Android 5.1 somehow different in sms storing?
I have used SMS Backup & Restore Pro (and the free version before that) to restore my SMS/MMS messages several times across a few phones and, aside from the occasional "1 failed" message, it has worked flawlessly every time.

Yes, I had no problems before, too. It seems the problem is in Textra. I installed Hangouts app from playstore and inside of it I can see my sms msgs, all of them, but when I enter Textra I see only 6 of them again.
Maybe Textra is not working very well with 5.1 ?

Anyway, I. Installed Yata and no problem.

[Q] How to restore SMS from Titanium Backup of Hangouts

I updated my ROM today, and before that I backed up all my apps via Titanium Backup. I restored the backup after the install, and everything is good except for the SMS.
I use Hangouts as the SMS app, and the titanium backup has my SMS data stored in it and it gets restored to hangouts, but only for a few moments. After restoring the app data, I can see my old messages but as soon as I do anything on the app all the old messages are gone and only the ones I received after are there.
I tried restoring the data multiple times and it has been the same case every time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a lot of important messages relating my education and job saved on there. Thank you.
Try installing SMS Backup & Restore, see if that enables you to pull the data out of hangouts and use it.
I did try that. But, sms back and restore doesn't seem to get the data from hangouts at all. It only gets the data from the default messaging ap.
So, I was able to successfully restore my messages.
Instead of restoring the hangouts data, I restored the messages data, followed by a reboot. This worked like a charm
I immediately backed the messages up with SMS backup and restore.

I'm assuming you have the pro version of Titanium? You should have no issues using the built in sms/mms backup feature in that.
