[Q] OnePlus Overheated & Won't Power On - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good Morning All,
I searched previous threads and couldn't find one that addressed this issue.
My hubby has a OnePlus that is NOT rooted. Yesterday at dinner his phone powered off and started getting really hot. He tried several times to power it back on and each time he did the unit only got hotter. I mean REALLY hot. He has tried the power and volume down option to force it to boot into recovery mode... nothing. It sat on the charger all night and still won't power on. Anyone have a similar issue?

*BUMP*

Has the phone, rebooted since then?? Sounds like a hardware problem.
Edit: sorry misread about rebooting. You might have start an RMA claim.

Thanks for the reply. I sent in a RMA request yesterday. I've since tried plugging the phone into my Nexus 7 (2013) charger but it just got hot and didn't reboot at all. Nothing! Dead.

I wouldn't charge it anymore, just in case something worse happens with the battery. Sorry for your dead phone.
Have read through some of the stickies on the "General" sub forum?? There may be some answer there.

If you fix it please let me know how I am experiencing a similar issue.
In general there is a thread called unbricking evita. You can try the steps listed there. If it were me I would be demanding my money back

Plug it in via USB to your computer and see if it shows up.
If it shows up qhsusb_dload mode then you can possibly unbrick it like area51 says.
Sounds like you bought a brick. File a claim with eBay.

If you plugged it into the wall for a half-hour and got nothing seems like someone sold you a brick.....weak sauce man....dispute it if you can.

Plug it into a comp, after about a half hour charge. it could possibly be bricked. If this is the case, it should show it looking for some drivers, if so, follow the UN bricking thread... Hope the best to you man!!

It doesn`t even show up on my PC. Tried to charge it overnite. No luck.
Anyway, had opened a SNAD dispute on eBay. Seller has agreed for the return.
Hope it works out!

before you return the phone, try this: charge the phone for at least ten minutes. after that, hold the vol up, vol down, and power for a full 2 min. after 2 min, let go of the buttons and the phone should fire right up. if this doesnt work, hold the power button for a full 60 secs then try to turn it on. if both of these fail, return the phone. hopefully one of these will work for you.

You're posting this same thing on so many different threads, it's against XDA rules to duplicate posts. Plus this thread is 7 months old, it really didn't need to be revived. I know you desperately want your phone to work but posting the same thing a million times isn't going to bring it back.

Dear Timma,
I am not making different new threads, I am searching for people who faced this same problem but they are in different threads, and sincerely if a thread is months older then probability of getting the exact solution is more definite, Please do not mind.
I will definitely not post in anymore threads.
Thanks.
I understand what you're saying, but it's against rules. Not only to duplicate posts, but also to revive ancient threads.

Not really. There are lots of reasons for the phone to not boot. So randomly digging up old threads with a similar issue (but possibly different cause) is not going to get you the right answer.
Stick to one thread. Your chances of getting good help are actually better that way.

So...How did I brick my N5?

I am not inexperienced when it comes to ROMs, rooting, flashing, etc. Been doing it since my Droid X, X2, Gnex and now n5.
So pretty much I installed purity ROM and franco kernel. I was really tired when I was flashing it last night so as soon as I saw it boot up I let myself fall asleep. The last thing I saw was the setup screen asking me what language to select. I woke up this morning and tried to turn the screen on. nothing. held the power button for 10+ seconds then tried to boot again. Nothing. FYI the phone was fully charged last I saw. I have the heat on so it's kind of warm inside. I left it outside on the patio for about 20 minutes to cool down. Still gets nothing. No response what so ever. No vibration, the backlight of the display doesn't come on....nothing. I tried plugging it in the charger, nothing. The battery icon doesn't show up. The backlight doesn't come on. I left it on the charger for about 20+ minutes. Nothing. Plugging it into my computer does absolutely nothing. It doesn't show ANYTHING connected AT ALL. So no fastboot no adb (cant even get to recovery or bootloader) odin is out too. Literally 100% unresponsive.
Didn't think you could do that to a nexus honestly. Especially after all the hackery I did on the GNex. I didn't even do anything funny. Just flashed Purity + Franco (r14) I was waiting on r15.
Try charging it for a few hours (overnight).
I've seen this happen to a lot of people in the nexus 4 section.

Doesn't sound like it had anything to do with flashing anything, especially since you saw it go tot he language screen.
You've tried holding the volume keys while turning it on?
I honestly may have just been a faulty battery in the device. ran out of juice fast and now won't charge or power it.
I'd still try more holding power button remedies, etc.
Not sure that Odin would have ever helped you anyways considering this is not a Samsung phone.
Worst case RMA it through Google..

Yes, tried every button combo. True about odin, just making a point that a computer and fastboot/adb/toolkits would not work.

Yep its happened a few times with people with the nexus 4 too. The battery is at a decently high charge and suddenly it acts as if the battery is dead.
I have seen people fix it by charging the phone for a few hours though. Do you get an LED light when its plugged into the wall charger?
Sent using xda-developers app
Absolutely nothing. Completely 100% unresponsive. I think it's done for.
Edit: Purchased from T-Mobile, not Google directly. I pay for insurance on the device. Stinks, but I think I'm going to have to file an insurance claim
Why do insurance when you can just do warranty claim at the store? Just take it back to them (especially since it hasn't been 30 days yet) and replace the device.
Did you try plugging it into a car charger in your car?
For some reason that sometimes works. I don't know why, maybe higher amperage or something.
You should try it!
This happened with my Nexus 4, All I did was leave it charging and that worked after quite a bit. At the time I re flashed it back to stock, not sure if it helped or not but I never had the issue again.
OP, have you solve your problem? my nexus 5 just dead when I rebooted my phone. now, i does not have any idea to turn it back on again.

before reboot, i'm flashing the new bootloader and radio that come with 4.4.1.. i got those two zip somewhere in the xda. but i think there is no problem with twrp. now I cant go into fastboot mode or recovery mode. there is no response when pressing the power button + volume button.

[Q] My nexus 5 doesn't turn on

Guys, I have a situation with my nexus 5. 3 days ago, I was chatting at whatsapp and suddenly the screen turned off. I though it was probably because the battery needed to be charged, so I plugged it and a few minutes later I saw a red led flashing and the nexus started to get really hot... I unplugged, left it like that and I replug it again, but this time neither get hot, nor get a red led, nor getting answer from the device. I tried to press volume+power but no luck at all. The only thing that worked (kinda) is that I open the cel, unplugged the battery, reconnected and with that, the nexus came back, but when I tried to plug into the computer or the electricity, again, the cel just turned off suddenly. By the way... The computer is not detecting the nexus when I plug with usb... Could any of you guys help me??
Sounds like you need to rma it. Don't think anything will bring it back to life.

[Q] Is my phone dead?

My phone is bone is stock. It has never been rooted or anything.
It got it wet a few months ago, but it continued to work fine. It's been dropped a couple of times, but has a case.
In the last 2 weeks it has shut off by itself a handful of times, and wouldn't power on unless I pulled the battery.
Last night it shut off, I pulled the battery, and it still wouldn't turn on. Tried a different battery, and nothing. Plugged into the wall, and I got the drained battery symbol, then the almost charged battery symbol, then a blank, and finally after that, the phone would boot. However, as soon as you pull the charging cable the phone shuts off. Also now when you get it to boot up, there is no wifi and no mobile data. I tried booting it from the computer and all I get is the vibration like it wants to turn on, then nothing.
The only thing I have done is a factory reset and it still has the same problems.
I also don't have the latest update from Verizon since I'm in South America. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Please help! Thanks in advance.

It's probably either a bad battery or a broken power button, if you're still under warranty go get it exchanged.

There are YouTube videos that show you how to unstick a power button on the S3. Normally you have to bang it fairly hard against something, search for the video and see if it works for you. If it makes the situation better it's your power button.

Apparently it was the power button I'm suspecting. I pressed on it firmly on the edge of the counter last night, tried to turn it on this morning, and it powered up. Should I replace the power button?
Also I would like to root the phone now, but I think I'll start another thread for that one if I have any questions.
Thanks a ton guys!

[Q] My phone went dead and won't charge?

Last night I put my phone on the charger and fired up a TWRP backup. This morning I wasn't able to boot it. Tries two different chargers and it is a brick, The charging light won't come on at all. It's not the chargers, I have tested them with my nexus 5....
It's been on the charger for hours with no pulse. Need paddles...
Rooted but stock CM11s. Any suggestions how to get it back to life appreciated.

When I connect, there's no power in the phone at all so USB port never acknowledges connection.
Did you try plugging it in (ensure its really plugged in) and holding the device power button for a good 10-15 seconds? I know its a silly thing to ask.

I have the EXACT same problem.
I went to enter a wifi network password and settings kept crashing, so restored from a TWRP backup... and the boot up animation was just ongoing, over and over. (3 hours) - Now, when I plug it in occasionally, I get an error saying it can't start up.. please charge first. (But it doesn't charge and I get nothing).

I've got an idea for you (It worked for me - but I must admit... I was drunk and didnt think things through) if you still have % you might be in luck.
Go into TWRP, and format Data only. Then once it boots... Hold Power and volume up, so it resets... and hold power till its completely turned off, then plug it into mains. (This charged for me - but as I say, I tried to just restore again and got the stupid logo by whih point my battery was at the point of no return) - Still faulty if you ask me though.
