Hope this helps someone. Much faster than the Evo if you plan to use a card reader or just want to swap it out for another device.
is it THAT much better than the EVO? i just got one, but i read the phones can't really read over 48mbps anyway so it doesn't matter.

if you plan to keep it in your note 4 then it won't make a difference. It only makes a difference if you plan to plug it into a USB 3.0 card reader or use the card for another device like a GoPro in the future

I own both and have to say the difference is not noticeable . The write and read speeds seem to peak at what the max is with the evo. Good price though if you are in the market but I wouldnt waste the money if you already own the evo 64gb
it's actually 30$ http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-64GB-..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0G3XAWD827KB40WBKFXZ
That's the larger SD card. Won't fit..
I got the Pro to future proof a bit. Maybe the next 2 gens of Androids will be able to make use of the speeds.

It's a hardware limitation. The software can go as far as the hardware can provide. If there was a way to toggle the software to make use of higher speeds, it would produce enough heat to bake the phone and in worst case, result in internal damage to the PCB (Something Samsung doesn't want you to know; they only repair phones, not replace them, lol). I still feel that I should purchased the Developers Edition of the Note 4 (Verizon Model) to be used on AT&T, but still currently backordered on Samsung's site.

Yeah, as soon as I bought a GoPro, I instantly regretted having slow cards. At $35 this a no brainer. The Evo can probably handle 1080p at 60 fps but not at 120. And considering you will be pulling the sd out of the GoPro and putting it in your phone all the time, your phone card will be used in the GoPro all the time. This is probably the best deal ever on a micro sd.
Using Wifi File Transfer Pro, with a Wireless AC Router, I routinely get 65mb write speeds while copying a rom from my desktop to the extSdcard, MB-MG64DA/AM

title says it all, i want to get a new micro SD card cuz i dont have enough space for my music on my 16GB so i wantex to know if brand really matters when buying micros cuz i can get a cheaper price on smaller name brands. so, opinions?

I would say it depends on where you buying them from. I would never buy a micro sd card from ebay or similar sites because they might say Samsung on them and you can get them from real cheap, You wouldn't know if they are REAL samsung micro sd cards.
I usually buy mine from newegg.com and they start at $10 for 16gb
I can't say what the difference is to the phone. I bought a 32GB PNY class 10 so I would be able to cut the time it takes to download from my computer to the card with a reader. I have a usb3 port and usb3 reader on my PC which is used mostly for photography. But when I transfer music and movies to my card for my phone it is faster by three fold.
The faster the card, really the better. If you get some random off brand, who knows where that card came from, and if the speed rating is even accurate. Some places house brands are pretty good though, I dunno who makes Microcenter's memory but they are very cheap and have yet to have a problem with them. However the real issue would be reliability. It's always a good idea to backup your card, but I rather have my data and photos on a name I can trust. 60 bucks for the PNY 32gb class 10 was a good deal for me.
On this particular phone, you can consider the SD card like your computer's hard drive. Would you really go get some off-brand from ebay for your PC to save a few dollars? I know I wouldn't. Not worth the headache of losing important data.
I understand faster cards works better. However, I never really notice any difference in speed in my class 4, class 6 or class 10 in Galaxy 4g. I do notice little different in my galaxy s2. I can see the difference when I run benchmarks but in my opinion the speed of card also depends on speed of your device.
i would love to get a PNY one, but ive bought three usb drives from them and all of them habe literally fallen apart...

I would agree with this. The name only is relevant if your buying from a unknown vendor. But if your going with newegg or some other online retailer other than some random ebay auction as long as it is the size you want I dont think it really matters.
The class of the sdcard is somewhat releveant depending on what you are doing with it. The typical android user will not notice that much of a increase of a class 10 over a class 4. But if your taking bunches of photos and videos or playing videos on your phone the class ten are going to perform "better".
Just to reiterate the name brand isnt as much of a issue if you are buying from a legit source. I bought a dane elctric one several years back and haven't had any problems other than the adapter went out. The card itself works flawlessly.
for short, i would buy a memory card with reasonable price and wouldn't easily break ;-)

as well as this:

My PNY 32GB class 10 speed.
Sequential
21.59MB/s read - 11.55MB/s write
This is using a 50MB file.
I would like to test the 4k transfers, but in order to test with a file size less than 50MB I would have to wipe the card. I'll do it just not any time real soon.

It really depends on how exactly you are using your sd card. I know in the OP you said you have a lot of music. Do you typically clear all of your music and transfer all new stuff to the phone?
I have been using a sandisk class 6 for quite some time now and I absolutely love it. It is perfect for my needs. But I do not do a lot of heavy music on my sd card. I have read that even the class 10 Lexar sd cards have terrible random speeds, so I would definitely avoid them at all costs.
no, i just drop music on the card from my laptop, never a complete replacement

I would definitely agree with that.
This site has a really good deal on a class 4 32gb for today only. I order from them quite a bit. The only issue I ever have is sometimes it takes a while to be delivered.
avoid amazon? or..
if I order from amazon, should I be wary of the brand name? like, have some of you bought via amazon what appeared to be a kingston or whatever known brand, only to find it probably is not?
I read the advice about watching the source carefully....
I have not ever had that issue with amazon before. I guess that it is possible but very unlikely in my opinion.
Its not like ebay where i would never trust that it is legitimate. I have ordered quite a bit from amazon without a single hitch or mistake.
Always be wary of ordering online though... because it can happen.

As long as it is from amazon and not a store. But again amazon is better about policing its stores than ebay is. I have bought from amazon many times and not once had a problem with getting a different product then what I ordered.
that's comforting. so I shall order the sandisk 32gb microsd from them. not bad for 25 bucks I guess. I hear it works fine in the Galaxy s 4G.
you know.... this is an aside... I am getting that phone [its on the way] for my wife, but I fear I shall like it. .. then what? but she's never used Android b4 so maybe she will barf
Hello all,
Does anyone have a 64GB microSD card that's SanDisk or Samsung? If so what model (i.e. ultra, ultra plus, extreme, Pro, etc)? And what's the actual read/write speeds vs. what is printed on the packaging? This will help me, and hopefully others, buy what's necessary. I don't really see myself needing the quickest write speed this side of the Mississippi at 90MB/s but I'm also thinking 30MB/s isn't enough when prices are dropping so they can be had for $30/each.
Thanks!

Bought this one the day I got my M8. Not sure of the write speed as I use it for music and photo's and don't really worry about read/write speed. Is there an app to test that? I've never taken it out the phone as I don't have a need to.
When I got it it was on sale for like 25 bucks or something as an amazon deal of the day.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I4ZMNY4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've got the 64gb ultra in my m8 and the speeds are good. I copy and transfer files over a gb often and they take very little time. That's the 30 mb/s. I have the 64gb extreme pro in my Ricoh gr and its bad ass but not sure it's needed for this phone.

Anybody thinking of upgrading to the note 5 from the 3? The only thing that really concerns me is the battery. being a power user and with the 10,000 mah Zerolemon on my Note 3 the battery is great!
What are some of your thoughts about going from the 3 to 5?
Is the 4 still worth looking into?
Reports are the display is more efficient than the 4 which was more efficient than the 3. and the processor is 2 gens smaller than the 3, so i would guess the 5 with a 3000ma battery will last at least 2 to 4 hrs longer than the 3200ma 3. And probably a day longet if you use that super power saver mode the note 4 has.
i worry about the all glass back. looks like a case for this one for sure.
Thinking about upgrading to a Note 4
Seriously, I am. I want the microSD slot, the removable battery, and no glass back. Here's something that someone mentioned over on the generic Note 5 forum, I believe, that made me think. He said that development on the Exynos Note 4s has really been slow. He prophesied that it would carry over to the Note 5, since thy have Exynos CPUs. I've been scouring CL and Ebay, looking for a used Note 4. BTW, it's true what others have reported. It's darn near impossible to get a Note 4 from Sprint. I called 2 stores today. No Note 4s. The guy at the second one told me that he had checked all the MN stores for a business customer. None in MN! My fall back plan is to get one from Best Buy. But, as a former SERO customer, I can only buy it at retail there. They can't upgrade my account at BB. Their retail price is $799. Ouch! What really makes me mad? A Sprint CS guy offered me, over the phone, the Note 5 on a fleece, I mean lease, a $15 monthly credit, if I would only lease it.

There's a few sprint's in my city has both the N4 and Note Edge. I wonder if some stores are just putting them in the back inventory for a while so the N5 train can take off.
I wish I could switch phones in general but cant since i have the Gear S and it will only connect to a Samsung Phone
i'm upgrading from a note 2. since subsidies might be going away i figured why the hell not get one. once my daughter turns 12 i'll be handing the sprint account to her anyways (still on SERO plus). i've give it 14 days and hope we get some action here on the phone... well, at least tethering. i really don't use sprint for much else since verizon is way better where i live. i may wait a few days before activating it when it comes in.

samsung probably will never put an sd card slot in the note line again. you might as well get used to it now and enjoy a new phone instead of waiting forever.
i think samsung pay alone will make up for the few things the 5 has lost.
I've had the Note 2 3 4 and now 5 and each one has outperformed the previous. Just a thought.

What.. Are.....u....... Smokin.......go away!
Samsung pay who gives a ****......
I upgraded from the Note 3 and I don't regret it. There are some things I miss but it's minor things. Not having a removable SD sucks but it's no big deal.
Major thing is that there is battery life improvement...it'll be even better once I can get the bloatware and touchwiz off...
So I decided to take the plunge. Went with the Best Buy offer of a free wireless Charger pad and a $200 credit after smart phone trade in. Traded in an old Sprint Flash(that had no value and it was considered recyle). With the gift card, I purchased an Otterbox defender and a Rev 12000 battery pack.
havent really played with or used the phone yet, but all seems well so far. Rooted it and placed on wireless charger pad and its been charging well. I will report back soon with some results
I'm just not sure I REALLY love this phone... not sure what to do. I miss the ir output, I'm really disliking the tw interface, I hate that I can't continously flip screens, nova does fix this, but then no monthly calendar widget, that I can't live without. I swear the reception just isn't quite as good, and/or it takes extra time to switch between 3g and 4g lte that the 3 didn't have. I'm not sure what bb will do for me if I attempt to return this phone... it's really missing the mark for me right now. I may have to talk to bb about my options.
I used to do a lot of multitasking. Spark sucks. If I had it to do over, I would stay with the Note 3 for now. I'm gonna miss talking while I'm surfing/downloading.
Note5 is a beautiful phone. the fit and finish is unmatched even by apple. if, aesthetics and prestige is high on ur priorities, this is the phone for u.
the lack of an SDcard slot won't be an issue for a while and u might have to do some spring cleaning from time to time.
the battery life is mediocre at best but the fast charging is amazing.
I switched to the Note5 because I noticed the LTE on my Note3 and S4 seemed to be slower everywhere, and congestion bogs were more frequent. I don't know the reason for my perceived slowdowns but at average speeds of 3mb/s made the benefits of simultaneous voice and data made it much less of a reason not to upgrade to the new spark network.

In my experience the biggest issue you will have is counterfeit cards I had 2 PNY cards of the 128 gb variety both supposedly fast cards neither were as fast as advertised they had decent read speeds but the write speeds were around 7MB/s or lower the Last sandisk card i had just quit working very abruptly. Since then i have stuck with G.Skill Sony and samsung cards the g.skill i have is very old and it is also slow the sony's i own preform adequately but the newer samsung cards i now swear by have really impressed me both reads and writes are blazing fast...
Im using this one, Read at 45 MB/s and Write at 18 MB/s. Its ok for me, dont know if will work good for you.

Lexar cards are pretty good just get them from a reputable company and be careful of Amazon as they are full of counterfeit cards.
I got this one for my X Pure. That said, I did get it at Best Buy last year on a sale for about $23 + tax. Pretty darn excellent performance except for the slow write speeds. Normally I wouldn't care about stuff like that but transferring a lot of videos into it can become a bit of a last question from Jeopardy, but completely stretched out.

Well, if anyone is looking at a decent deal on a 128gb card, B+H has this Samsung 128 GB card cheap: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...g_mb_mc128da_am_128gb_evo_micosdxc_class.html
best buy has it on sale as well, but for $60: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung...=4568502&productCategoryId=pcmcat351600050002
i just ordered one from B+H for my MXPE. (32gb/32gb just isn't cutting it)
UPDATE: the $40 at B&H was well worth...
You really must buy these things on Black Friday - Cyber Monday weekend. It is the cheapest time for flash memory and downloadable software ( antivirus upgrades, photo software, etc etc)
This card dropped to $ 99 , then $49. I grabbed for all of our Androids, and have 2 left over for other uses that may come up. Even if $49.99 is too expensive, they had the 64gb for $25.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sandisk...-class-10-memory-card/5110501.p?skuId=5110501
..It is the uhs-I class 3 as photo shows.. not 10 as description says. Best Buy listings have several errors in wrong photo in correct listing, and vice versa.
( Btw... The Extreme Pro is now their UHS-II products.. Which you would get no use out of..And one test I saw said it could run slower in a uhs-I device..And those did not drop as much in price, if at all for the holiday sales.)
I'll chime in and say that it depends on if you're planning on doing adoptable storage (or 50/50 or 75/25 percent externalSD/adoptable space like I do), I have your answer right here.

You MUST go with the Samsung EVO+. This recommendation is valid as of mid-2016, that's when I bought mine, so perhaps something has come out since then that's faster.
But assuming not, which is probably the case, I did my research and the Evo+ is the only card on the market that can consistently hit the highest RANDOM r/w speeds. That's important because many cards will advertise their high R/W speeds but they are referring to the sequential speeds, aka writing a block of sequential data in a linear fashion to the card, aka image or video data. Adoptable storage means reading from many separate sectors of the card (where different apps' data is stored) and writing back to them, all at as high a speed as possible to maintain interactivity with your finger, which will always be bottlenecked compared to a predictable sequential write.
Trust me, I didn't think it mattered when I bought a 128GB PNY card for relatively cheap (not a fake one either, I didn't want to take chances so I bought legit off Amazon), set it up in adoptable storage and then balked as Facebook and Snapchat would hang for full seconds at a time, making the apps all but completely unusable. And this was a pretty highly-reviewed card, but then again most of the cards you'll find on the front page of an Amazon search are too. I did some googling and while I can't remember my sources, if you look around you'll find that the Evo+ is kind of in a league of its own, as it's the most recent iteration of Samsung's line and is essentially the fastest card available right now. I returned the PNY and splurged on a 64gb Evo+, dropping some storage space quantity in favor of quality. While apps aren't still quite as PERFECTly responsive as on the internal storage, it's a HELL of a lot better than with the other card, like an order of magnitude better, and in the 6+ months I've been using it I actually haven't noticed the infinitesimally small lag which makes it great in my book.
So, if you are only planning on using the card to take pictures and video, music, or other static data you'll probably be ok with any decent cheap card. But if you're even thinking of setting up adopted storage, or honestly even if you aren't, I'd recommend going with the most blazingly fast card you can get because otherwise you're just going to have a bad time. This is one of those things where cutting corners even a little bit brings down the whole house of cards.
Hi,
I'm considering buying a SDCard for my Honor 8.
I think I'll go for a 128 gb.
What brands do you suggest, what speed/class and so on?
Looking on Ebay there a huge price differences.

There's a lot of fake sd cards out there, especially if the price difference is huge from the standard price. I recommend buying it from local reputable stores (online or offline), it's easier to do warranty claim if anything happens to the card.
Go with samsung, it has the best sd cards
I might be incorrect since it's been a while but i believe that the H8 doesn't support the highest speeds for SD cards.
I went for the Samsung Evo+ (the red one), not the best one i believe but it's worked well so far. Haven't really tested speed yet but i could if requested.
Obviously i can't really compare it though.
And yeah as for cheap prices, If it sounds to good to be true it usually isn't. Don't do it. Especially when you're going to store your precious data on it

I'm using the same card. I think it has the best price to performance ratio so far.
I will get a 256gb one, once I get my honor 9, I can't wait
Go for Samsung they are best.
It is my choice from the beginning
I bought a 32 GB class 10 , 2 years approximately back no issues at all ,but some times it is corrupted, i had to format again to use.
